Good City Brewing is a fantastic space in the hustle and bustle of Milwaukee's East Side. Garage doors open when it's warm and a little fireplace is nestled in the inside front corner. Staff was cheery and attentive. The night I went I tried two of their beers: scotch ale and imperial stout. The scotch ale was very good and my preference of the two. It was about an 8.5 ABV so not for the lighthearted if you've never had this kind before. The imperial had more of a bitter, not even after taste because it came sooner than an aftertaste. Butter isn't necessarily bad, a darker brew can be that way. This one boasted an 10+ ABV. I didn't feel it, though, so without proof I thought this batch wasn't quite that high. My friends and I did order meals, as well. What a concept that these breweries are starting to serve up food besides packaged snacks or common bar food. The entrees, though, are priced quite high. I'm just not expecting the same price tag as a non-brewery restaurant. I opted for two appetizers: pork belly and mushrooms. Let me tell you that pork belly was rich! Whoa mama. Lots of fats from the pork (obviously) but the accompanying apple wedge and figs made it so much sweet, fat richness. There were also lentils. For me, pork belly can get tough to eat because I always prefer my fats crispy, not jiggly. More my issue. Overall the dish was too sweet for me. I wouldn't go for it again, personally. But others might dig it. The mushrooms seemed like a relief up against the pork belly, at first. But once I was done with the pork and had mostly mushroom left, it also became too rich. Seasonings are great and all but there is no going back from overdoing it. A little editing might help balance these dishes more. I was wishing I had a side of burrata/mozz or goat cheese to go on the bread that the mushrooms came with for some relief. There is also a little kick in the 'shrooms, FYI. One friend ordered the chicken sandwich entree and that, from my aesthetic, was completely uninspired. My other friend ordered the veggie laksa and that not only looked amazing but she said it tasted great and in top of it I saw a bunch of people order this dish around us. You've lost my business. On a side note the beer was the only good thing. Your service at the East Side Location was awful today 7.18.21. Waitress messes up the order, brings me replacement food 32 min later ( no exaggeration). It was so long my family was so fed up they left me in the restaurant. I ordered a burger with no cheese (allergic) they add cheese. Another staff member asked if everything was okay. I said no...my food has cheese, that person says no problem we got you covered it will be right out. I'm thinking okay this is a good sign. I was told to eat some fries while I wait and we will get you new food.-which to me means fries too. Again 30 plus min later after my family walked out the waitress we started with weakly apologizes and then hands me a burger....I said thanks where are the fries? Her response....you already ate them. SMH. It's the principle you messed up, took mostly no responsibility for YOUR mistake and to finalize this shitty experience you "cheap out on the fries". You can't make it up. New to the area and won't be coming back so disappointed. Maybe it was because we were an interracial table not sure but I can't think of any other reason for the atrocious experience. Do Better. Management needs to do a re train on common sense because the east side staff member we encountered needs a refresher in customer experience which to date is the worst by far out of the 15 places we have eaten at so far. This is one of my favorite places to drink even though there are cheaper places to drink. I hear tell the building used to be a car wash. It's shiny and clean inside. The bartenders are always friendly. The first time I went it was a Sunday, and I was in time for brunch even though I didn't know they had brunch. I saw a smoked eel omelet on the menu and couldn't resist ordering it. It was tasty and with the breakfast potatoes and palate-cleansing orange slice that accompanied it was just the right amount of food, enough to be full but not feel gross. I stayed for awhile that day and tried several of the beers. I'm partial to IPA's. The Risk and Reward both hit a sweet spot for me. They're different hip profiles and different ABV's, but I like them both. The Lord Lyon Scotch ale is another favorite. It was a fun day, if a little wallet-intensive. But I kept not really wanting to leave. I've been back a few times since then. One of those times I came on Sunday and found out the kitchen closes at 6 on Sundays. Bummer, but I still stayed for a few beers. I've tried the Big Cheese with the curry fries and the veggie laksa. The laksa in particular is filling and complex-flavored and has a little kick to it. You can't call yourself Good if your not Good. Well I guess you could but something just wouldn't be right about that. Good City Brewing has landed themselves some prime real estate on the East side and put it on lockdown by serving up some righteous brews and food to boot. A truly laid back atmosphere and a patio on the sidewalk where one can enjoy time with the pooch equals perfection. Drove over here this past weekend with my dog Ralph and enjoyed an impromptu party on the porch. Parking was breeze and we had immediate seating ordering up a couple extremely scrumptious brews right away. I was lucky enough to get the last tap of a stout that wasn't on the menu and it was to die for. I then had another stout from the beer menu that was pretty damn good to. In a city that's being flooded with micro breweries Good City is a refreshing breath of fresh air. No hype just a great atmosphere and good brews. They also have what I am deeming to be the "Best French Fries in Milwaukee"! Cajun fries were OMG good and Good City served up correct! Cast iron skillet of fries and 2 dipping sauces. Oh man! I'll be back soon to try more of the goods and get a tour of the facility. So far spot on! Keep it up! read more

I'm going to be real honest here, I do not like their beers too much. Several social obligations have led me here for a beer or two and each time I found myself unsatisfied. I know I've had the pilsner more than once and it seemed a little too hoppy for me(if you like IPAs, this may be right up your alley). Anyhow, I thought I'd actually write a review for my most recent visit only because it was the first time I've actually ordered food. "They picked good Milwaukee things to do, and they did them excellently." -my dining partner at Good City Brewing I'm not really sure what else to say. Everything was excellent. The pretzel was perfect, the cheese spread was delicious. Our server recommended the mac and cheese with sausage, and was 100% correct. The beer was excellent, and flights came in wood replicas of (what I presumed to be) Milwaukee bridges. I think my favorite beer was the Film Fest, but I also enjoyed the Lord Lyon and Cities & Nights a lot! Also loved the atmosphere, and as I mentioned above, our bartender had great recommendations. Recommended by a friend, we made our way to Good City Brewing. Plenty of street parking in the area and you can't miss this place with the outdoor signage calling you in for a drink. Showed up on a Sunday @ 3pm and the place had a decent crowd at the bar, so I found a community high-top table to chill at with my wife. I ordered at the bar and the server was kind enough to bring the beers back to us. Ordered a flight since this was our first time. Beers were OK to solid. I found the Motto Pale Ale and Rewards DIPA to be the best of the bunch. The Risk IPA was not my fave and the Robust Porter was thin for the style. For snacks, we had the pretzel and pickled veggies. Neither were huge portions, but they were only $6 and $4, respectively, so reasonable for what you pay for. A nice addition to the area and looking forward to seeing what do on our next visit in 2019. read more

Good City is a great hangout spot - especially if you like IPAs (which I unfortunately do not.) Even their Pilsner tastes hoppy to me. They will let you taste the beer before buying a full pour, but this is a true brewery so they do not have a full bar for other drinks. That being said, it's still worth going to because they have lots of indoor room/seating options, fun games (board games and such), a gorgeous rooftop patio, friendly bartenders, and actually good food too. My favorite is their curry fries which I've never seen anywhere else - they definitely stain your fingers but the flavor is amazing! I've done their meat & cheese tray before too which is nice to snack on as well. They do have dinner entrees and a kids menu, but it's on the pricier side for a brewery. read more

Nice spot for dinner and some brews with small groups. They're doing a nice job of enforcing capacity guidelines during covid. Tables were very spaced out and bar seats were partitioned into groups. We enjoyed some beers from their decently sized tap list, IPA variety was solid (and more importantly they were delicious). Dinner was great, mostly burgers but did offer a Friday fish fry. It's a little above average pricing I'd say but worth it because their curry fries with aioli are the best. Staff were friendly but so slow...waited 40 minutes for our tab. Came in during the latest snow dusting . The bartender took my drink order and no sooner I sat down presto there it was. I had the Imperial Stout and it was very tasty. I ordered their BLT it came as ordered and was good; they didn't skimp on the indregients. Looking around the bar, I saw a lot of locals with their families and friends. Good place to sit, eat & relax. Insane variety of brews, so you can sit a while and enjoy a flight or change up during the visit. This is definitely a place I will go to again and again. read more

Great atmosphere! Came here for their second year anniversary yesterday. New beers were released every hour and live bands were playing. Split a brat and curry fries with a friend; they were great! The brat came in a pretzel bun with a lot of mustard so if you like that you will really enjoy this brat. After we ate we head upstairs to finish our drinks on the outdoor rooftop/beer garden. 4 for overall average. 5 stars to brewery because Good City's beers are the real crown jewel. Motto is a favorite IPA, ever! Forget the west coast white guy wannabe hype. It's just an extremely tasty beer. All of their brews are pretty wonderful, whatever your preference may be. I'd give a 3 stars to food because it's almost there for me but just falls short of Gastropub fare that's actually interesting. The seasoned curry fries are nice. Almost as wonderfully zesty as when Cory Booker said he was going to work very hard to make sure Trump was not the president. But then hey, we have ourselves a doozie anyway. The Bahn Mi had a pretty gnarly fish fillet. And though I love fishy tasting fish like mackerel, herring, anchovies, and perch, this particular type of fish didn't belong on a sandwich. A marinated ginger tofu would've been better. Jackfruit, or pork. Anything really. Their deep fried cheese curds are decent. Not a Lakefront curd but I'll take it. read more

On one of our frequent visits to Milwaukee, my better half and I stopped in for brunch on a Saturday morning. As a fan of their beer, its been on my list of places to check out for awhile now. I should have known but a heads up, as this is a brewery, there is no booze so kiss you dreams of a bloody mary or mimosa good bye. While they have beer variations of both, they are not the same. The dining room and bar area is bright and open with the brew tanks providing a nice backdrop. The menu is pretty diverse with salads, brunch plates, and sandwiches. As is typical with me, I opted for the "The Lot" Aussie Breakfast burger. No idea why the name but it had alot going on with it- half pound burger, white cheddar, pickled beet slice, grilled pineapple, pickles, fried egg, and a sriracha Russian and garlic sauce served on a brioche bun. It was a monster to eat but surprisingly, the flavors worked together. I probably wouldn't get it again (just due to the enormous size) but I'm glad I tried it. My girlfriend went with the classic eggs benedict. It was just ok and the side of bacon she ordered could've used a few more minutes of cooking time as it was rather soggy and hard to eat. For their beers, you can't go wrong. When I was there, they had their Triple IPA (Varietal #8) on tap. With 10% abv, it was sneaky smooth and extremely tasty. I followed that up with a Nitro Milk Stout for good measure. I probably wouldn't come back for brunch (as there as so many good ones close by) but definitely would come back for a pint or 2 (or 4!) read more

I cannot say enough good things about Good City! Interior: cozy hip decor with bar seating, large tables for sharing, and some smaller more intimate tables. I love the exposed brick and board games for the times you just want to sip on a brew and relax. Just beyond the bar you can see the workings of the beer brewing process. Additionally, they've added a rooftop patio which is so clutch during the MKE summers. Speaking of the summers, the front windows open up for a more Al fresco dining experience and tables are placed on the front sidewalk for additional outdoor seating. Food: Delicious. There is a good variety of entrees and apps to choose from. Everything tastes so fresh! The cheese boards stand out and showcase local cheeses. Also CURRY FRIES! Get the curry fries. Beer: I am partial to hoppier brews so thier offerings are right up my alley. I recommend trying a flight to get a taste of a few and find the perfect one. Motto and Reward are my two favorites. So many good things at happening at Good City. Solid food menu (I like the macaroni and cheese), rooftop beer terrace, plus the opening of their new concert hall. Concert venue is pretty basic, stage in the front, concrete floor, bar in the back (plastic cups for the concert venue) and two unisex bathrooms in the back. Chicken Wire Empire kicked off the opening of hall and it was great. Good City is definitely an IPA heavy brewing but there are still beers for your nonhophead friends including their new Film Fest lager. read more

A slightly different type of review for this one.....my wife had a milestone birthday this year and I wanted to do something both special but also casual for the event.  We had moved to Milwaukee earlier this summer and I wanted to find a place we could have a party for about 15-20 people coming in from out of town that would allow us to have space to catch-up with our friends and family as well as get some good food and drinks. I was looking for a place that did not have a crazy price for the space nor did they require a minimum purchase price as I was not sure until everyone arrived who would for sure be attending.  You see all of the guests were coming from 5-6 hours away and spending on things occurring in their lives plans can change suddenly. I was also seeking a location that would provide great service for all of our guests.  Lastly, the space HAD to be available on the date I had chosen for the event.  I spent quite a while checking on several locations around the city and while many of them were a fit on a few fronts nothing was a great fit for me for all of my criteria. Some required a crazy high threshold for spending, some required a minimum number of guests, some were too upscale (since everyone was driving quite a distance I didn't want them to feel odd if they wore jeans, shorts, etc..), the biggest challenge was availability on the date I had picked.  My wife's birthday is late summer/early fall and a ton of the spaces were already booked by the time I was setting this up in late June.  Who knew people wanted to get married and have receptions in the fall??? :-)  After searching for a while I found Good City Brewing...the Farwell location.  The space ticked all the boxes for me including availability so I reached out to get something locked in.   The process of making the reservation was easy...send an email and they will reach back out.  I sent my email and received a response back in a day or so.  Once we connected they asked me several questions regarding my needs and even assigned a coordinator to me to help ensure the event was a success.  This was a surprise party and I mentioned this to the coordinator who said they had just the spot for me in their location.  We worked through the details and had a plan for the day put together in just a couple of emails.  As the day of the event came closer the coordinator checked in on a final count and ensured I was getting what I needed from them as well as letting me know who the server for our group would be for that day and also the manager of staff just in case we needed something extra.  The day of the event came and it went off without a hitch.  The space was perfect, the food was great and the party was a blast.  Good City made this easy for me and allowed me to pull off the surprise and not worry about the food and drinks.  I just needed to keep the secret a secret and spend time with our friends.  This was a great experience and I would recommend using Good City to anyone looking to have a similar event in the future.  I would be remiss if I did not call out a few people by name due to their excellent work.  Christine- is the sales manager - very responsive and helpful. I can never dislike a rooftop bar, especially one so close to my apartment! Good City is known for great beers, but my personal favorite is the Motto. Not only does this location have an intimate rooftop, they also serve some of the best pretzels this world has to offer. Their tap room is large with plenty of seating -- they also have a long bar area. I've never had to wait for a table -- sometimes the roof can get crowded to only standing room, but I feel like that is to be expected. Staff is very quick to take your order and are always good about checking in on you throughout your time there. I love when they have the garage doors open on nice summer days, I always feel like those are the best time to stop in for a quick Motto and pretzel. If you've only been to the downtown location, check this one out! The feel is a lot different, but with all the same delicious offerings. This is a fantastic place for good beer and good food. First, the ambiance is nice and relaxed. Weather-permitting, there is the option of sitting outside, which gives the place a neighborhood place vibe. The Pilsner style beer is delicious and refreshing and the hummus appetizer comes with the right amount of pita. The menu features several V options and most entrees range between $11-15. There is also a tempting desert list. We were there for the first time last Saturday and we were quite pleased with the brownie option. I've been to Good City Brewing a few times now and find it to be a rather pleasant option, but nothing I've ever been over the moon about. It seems they are often out of several of their beer options. And it has sometimes taken a quite some time to get the food we've ordered. The kind of situation where you order appetizers and wait so long for them that they end up coming out with the entrees. But I have been pretty pleased with most of the food options I've had, especially the gnocchi with the fake bacon (be prepared for the fake bacon taste though!) Additionally, the menu does have a pretty good selection for those with different dietary restrictions. The space itself is also really neat and I'm looking forward to trying out their new rooftop patio at some point. Overall, its a nice place to meet and hang out with friends. But I wouldn't visit if limited on time. read more

Great place to stop for a flight of a few pints, especially to enjoy the rooftop seating. Good City is located on north Farwell, a fun happening part of town, with lots to do. I have only been here for beer and relaxation so I can't comment on the food, but it did look good. The staff are all friendly and well educated on their beer and ingredients and will give you free samples for whatever you want to taste. They specialize in hoppy beers but they do so much more. The Motto, Reward, and each of the Variety numbered series are very well crafted beers. The oh-so-special Detail that is barrel aged with vanilla and chipotle peppers added is a work of art that is to be sipped and savored mindfully. The rooftop is a cool spot, nice place to soak up some rays, and they even have another bar. Parking in the area is not the easiest and expect a hike on a busy weekend. read more

I stopped off at Good City Brewing on Falwell on 3/5/22. The taproom was spacious with the same industrial decor you see in most craft breweries nowadays. I visit craft breweries as a hobby and their decor definitely felt like deja vu to me. The bar and taps themselves appeared very well organized and the tap list rotated on an LED screen with the latest graphics and description of the beers with style and ABV. Like many urban breweries, they had a prevalence of varied IPA's. I normally do a flight & they do 4 choices like most breweries. My bartender was very knowledgeable & provided some insight into their selections. My bartender gave me a few free brewery stickers upon request. The Wi-Fi was easily accessible in the taproom with password and worked flawlessly. I appreciated his service which showed pride in his job and the brewery. My beer was good. I had a lager, a high ABV quadrupel (Audacity), a stout, and a recommended IPA, Firefly. I was also provided a sample of a maple cinnamon stout that had a high APV, but was surprisingly smooth. An easy go-to for quality food and brews without much of a wait. Modern and industrial, Good City is a Milwaukee brewery with a Chicago feel. Food: we got the Big Cheese burger and a side of curry fries. The fries are a favorite everytime I come here - just subtle enough that picky eaters would like them, but still deliciously seasoned. The "burger" (actually just a block of cheese) was a little odd but still tasty in its own way. I've had the BBQ pulled pork which is also authentically Wisconsin. For dessert, I can't leave without getting the stout brownie...it's amazing. For drinks I would suggest doing a flight before committing, as some of their beers are especially flavorful. Atmosphere: this place is always hopping on the weekends. I've never been for brunch but would love to check it out. Clean brick, soft lighting and a generally welcoming feel. I have been to Good City for beers a few times. This time, I took my parents there for an early dinner when they were visiting my wife after the birth of our twins. Three of us ordered the BLT and were very satisfied. The bread was full without being too filling and had a grilled rather than toasted flavor which really added to the sandwich. One of us has the double cheeseburger and said it was good. The black pepper kettle chips were great but I many and the flavor was too strong. The coleslaw was the star of the plate! Stopped in last night--food was good, service wasn't great. I was disappointed with the tap list since I mostly drink sours and there wasn't one currently available. I tried a cider instead; my wife had a hazy IPA that she thought was fine. For some reason my half of the bar didn't get coasters while the other half did. There were 2-3 bartenders taking care of the bar and tables; one took good care of us with our initial orders when we arrived, but after that we had to flag someone down. My wife and I ordered the giant pretzel and the cheese curds to share. Both were tasty, but they were delivered without any appetizer plates or silverware. With so many other brewery options in the area, we probably won't bother going back. read more

A local brewery on the lower east side!!! Good city brewing is a brewery, tasting bar, and restaurant. I was impressed with the quality of the beer. You can get a tasting flight of beer for only nine bucks, large glass sizes and all four brews were super tasty. I went before they rolled out their full menu, even so I was diggin their limited menu. I love when a menu has inexpensive snacks and apps, and entrees at a verity of prices. That way there is food for every mood. The pretzel and curry fries were very good, and I have to say all the food rollin out of the kitchen look fresh and delicious. I live very close to food city and they have been packed for days. Every time I walk by the place is is buzzing with good vibes. Good city hit it out of the park with there graphic design, restaurant layout and their staff was extremely friendly. I will be back to Good City. read more

The beer is great, but primarily IPA's, so if that's not your taste there are less options. I'm not a big IPA drinker, but I do enjoy their Moto. The food is good and I really liked the Brew Burger. Great atmosphere and always a lot of fun. read more

Came in for the opening before the opening and was excited to get a sneak peak. I frequently walk or bike by and have been peering in the windows for mo the waiting for this gem to open. Because it was the opening before the opening they had select beers and appetizers to try. They had two beer samples the first was Risk | 6.5% ABV with strong flavor a true IPA and the second was called Motto | Mosaic Pale Ale which I loved it was light and had smooth tones and was not bitter at all. I want to take a bath in it. For apps they had a three options: hummus, pretzel with cheese dip and curry fries with mayo. I took pictures and have the actual descriptions per the menu. We could choose two apps complimentary so we opted for the pretzel and fries and they were delicious. The fries were flavorful without being over powering (I'm not the greatest curry lover) and the pretzel was so good. We got another order. The staff was all pretty fresh but very friendly. They greeted us with a smile and they seemed to have a team model where every server just helped out where needed. Being a professional server in another life I feel a bit more critical than my friends I was with, who were never professional servers. One thing I wished the servers would've done would have been to write down our orders. They had to return to our table (and the tables around us) to ask again what was ordered. Not a big deal, but when there are a total of 5 things available on the menu I'm a bit concerned for when there's more than 5 things on the menu. Otherwise the staff was awesome and friendly. The owners stopped by our table and chatted about the beers with us and the flavors which was very friendly. The decor and layout of the place felt very clean and welcoming. I can picture myself hanging out here with my friends or hosting board meetings here over some deliciously great beer and savory snacks. They open officially this Friday and I can't wait to go back and drink more Motto with some dinner. Good City Brewing is producing some super awesome IPAs, so anyone who is a hop-head definitely needs to stop by here and try their "Reward". Yum! Even if you aren't a fan of hoppy beer their other selections won't disappoint. They produce a wide variety of beer so they constantly have something for everyone. The food is also pretty great as well. They have a lot going on with their menu from scallops to grilled cheese to more expensive dishes that include steak, but the classic burger is my favorite! Depending on what you decide to order the price can range from around $12 - $26. Their curry fries are pretty amazing and a must order every time we go! Friday and Saturdays can be busy during dinner time, but usually mellow out around 8 pm. Good City is a seat yourself kind of establishment, which can get kind of hairy, but is usually no problem. Lots of different seating arrangements for every kind of experience... table seating for dinner, bar seating for drinks, and also cute seats by the fire place to enjoy a beer with friends during the cold weather. read more

A gem of a brewery. For only being open six months, it seems like this place definitely has it's sh*t together. Gorgeous industrial/modern space and lots of room to hang out or grab a bite to eat. We stopped in right at opening (11:30am), so there were lots of open tables. Within 30 minutes it started to fill in, so I would wager that this place gets busy during the evening/weekends. Everyone in my party ordered flights, which were customized and suggested by the knowledgeable and friendly bartender. Flights were served in these super cool carriers--each one unique! All the beers were fantastic. I'm not a big IPA fan, but even the IPAs were delicious. They had a variety of beers--something for everyone. We opted for a 3-cheese board ($13), which came with two kinds of bread, grapes, strawberries, nuts and some spreads. We were pleasantly surprised by this substantial plate! You definitely get a lot of food for the price. Watching the other patrons' food come out of the kitchen, we wished we had stayed for lunch. Everything looked and smelled amazing. Next time, I'm gonna get those curry fries! And there will definitely be a next time. TLDR; a bit pricey, but great service, neat space, delicious food. read more
