Updating my review to give some praise to Terry because he deserves it!! He's always so friendly, helpful and cheery that the atmosphere of this place has improved tremendously! My husband and I have been eating here since 2021 and on a way-more-regular-basis than I'd like to admit (lol!), so we definitely noticed when the staff changed. With this change brought Terry, who is a beacon of light in our favorite hot dog place! His attitude is always uplifting and he never gets annoyed with all the substitutions we make to our dogs since we are vegetarian. He's also very attentive and does a great job of taking care of us as well as the other restaurant patrons. We love his energy and always leave this place feeling better than when we first entered. Damn, I am writing this review at 9am, and the picture of this vegetarian hot dog is making my mouth water. I wonder if that is everything you need to know. But, I will try to elaborate. Firstly, vegetarian friendly hot dog places are few and far in between, so Good Dog Houston is so very much appreciated (probably by all vegetarians in Houston, but I only speak for myself). I ordered the Curryous Frank on the cashier's recommendation and was not disappointed. The service was quick and friendly. The flavor profile was rich and had such depth for such a simple item. I also ordered the fries, and enjoyed them as well. I really appreciated the dog friendly patio. Haven't been to Good Dog in literally over a decade. Back then I thought it was super cool that they made gourmet hotdogs, and in a way I still do. Tonight we decided to eat out for a quick dinner and this place came to mind. They have their own parking so that wasn't an issue. You order at the counter, and sit in their surprisingly spacious indoor dining area, at the bar, or their outside seating. Service was nice and friendly, too! Their menu of course is focused on gourmet dogs, but they have other options as well. They have beer and wine available. I heard their fish n chips are some of the best in town, but didn't feel like paying $20 for fish n chips when we visited. Instead we ordered the New Yorker and the Chi-town. The Chi-town was their take on a classic Chicago hotdog - nice pickles and veggies on top. Nice toasted bun. The New Yorker was covered in sauerkraut. As in covered. They didn't skimp on that hotdog at all! We also got the onion rings which were big and delicious. Overall pretty solid meal. Overall I'm glad Good Dog has stood the test of time. How good can a hot dog be? Well, for a hot dog, it was surprisingly good. This ain't no hot dog in a normal hot dog bun with some toppings like James Coney Island. The bread was almost like buttered toast surrounding a delicious sausage, topped with chili, Fritos, and other yummy items. We also got a side of fries which were pleasantly crispy and hot. We were in a good mood so we got some wings as well and those were better than expected. Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it to a friend. The service was good as the workers are super friendly. The ambiance was rustic and down to earth, nothing fancy. The establishment was clean and there was plenty of seating. I did love their very expansive menu -- lots of great options with a variety of toppings. My favorite was the Curryous Frank. Nice combination of textures/flavors. I also tried the Sloppy Slaw dog and wasn't crazy about that one. Nice idea but the slaw wasn't really a slaw -- it had large chunks of apple. I went with the Deli dog (house mustard, provolone, mixed greens, tomatoes, giardiniera) while my friend went with the ol zapata dog (bacon, muenster cheese, caramelised onions, tomatoes, jalapeño relish, ketchup, mayo). We also got an order of onion rings and potato salad. Including a glass of cider and a soda, our total including tip came to $50. Quite pricy for two people so I was hoping the dogs would be worth it. Fortunately the food is tasty, both of our dogs were cooked properly and delicious. The potato salad had good consistency. And we loved the onion rings which were the highlight of our meal. Plus that dipping sauce, oh my! Seating is a bit cramped so arrive with anticipation that you may not get a table if it's packed. I can't believe I've never left a review for Good Dog, shame on me! This is literally one of my favorite restaurants of all time. I always tell people that are visiting Houston that they have to try it out! We went with my husband's family after Thanksgiving last year, and it was just as good as I remember! I can't remember what all we ordered, but not one thing was anything less than extraordinary, and the service and ambiance were delightful as well. Their hot dogs are the best I've ever had, anywhere, bar none. The crazy awesome toppings they put on are just the icing on the cake, really. These are some d*mn good dogs. Make sure you upgrade your dog to the wagyu dog ($2.50 more times, but worth it) and get the onion rings. I came here on a Wednesday night with a small group of friends. During peak hours this could be a difficult place to find seating (there's indoor and outdoor seating), but we were easily able to find a spot to sit. You order at the counter and there's a large selection of dogs and non-dogs if that's not your thing. Also, beer. I got the Chi-Town dog with a wagyu dog and a side salad, as well as the onion rings which my friend ordered for the table (but I ended up eating most of it, LOL). The flavors of the hot dog were great; loved the relish and the peppers on top. The onion rings were "fluffier" and light compared to other onion rings I had--they're really good! And the side salad, because I wanted some veggies, came with a really good dressing (that also welt really well with the onion rings). I'll definitely be back for more dogs! I often drive by Good Dog and have never been until recently. My friend and I had a craving, so we went for it. I love a good hot dog. There are so many options and a "Dog of the Day" that can make it an overwhelming experience. Or, you can customize it. Since I was indecisive, I went for the corn dog. All sauces are made in house. I liked their mustard and garlic aioli. I ordered fried pickles in a jar. The panko breading was super crispy, which was great. I could've done without the extra dill herbs on the top. The ranch was too vinegary. The fried pickles weren't worth $10. I've had better and got a bigger portion for less. I enjoyed the corn dog. The breading was crisp on the outside and the corn bread crumbled nicely. The "hot dog" was more a Polish sausage or something, which I prefer. I like that it didn't taste like wood from the stick. Lol. The fries were good with or without the garlic aioli. The ketchup had too much cumin or something. Their hot dogs are pricey, but it's probably to offset the cost of the Heights rent. It's nice that they've been here for 12 years. I like that they have options for people who are gluten free and vegan. It's waaay too much for the hotdog and is such a detractor. It overshadows the hotdog and is nearly a dealbreaker. The sides are fine. The chips are unsalted, the fries are fine, and the slaw is good. The fried pickles are huge, but the breading overpowers the pickle...that's hard to do. Gave this place a try last weekend with the kids. The food was absolutely fantastic! As expected it's not your ordinary hot dog place. Food is fresh and has a unique spin for all palates. The service was good. Our table "waiter" was very nice and attentive. I'm not sure if he was a waiter since that's not really the model. You go up to the counter and order, then find a table, and someone delivers the food. Since the waiter never took our order, he probably didn't know the full order so items were missing. We asked and it was fixed but we had eaten our food by the time our fries and onion rings had come out. And why did the order come out one to two plates at a time? That's a lot of trips to the back patio for 6 people. Additionally, while I love the music I listened to in college, it was playing a little louder on the back patio and you could understand the words- which were quite inappropriate for children.
