I don't come often because Good Eats is out of the way. Like most New Yorkers, we don't come to Maspeth. It's a nightmare to get to unless you're off the bus line. What a nightmare this place is to deal with. Ordered food off grubhub, had notes in the comment section. Nothing out of the ordinary. Simply said "add gravy very important". Now to be honest, it wasn't important, but they left items out of my order in the past. In addition, when I called, the person who answered confirmed the gravy was left behind, and responded with "I'll send him back, what else do you want me to do". Each time I call to correct my order, this place gives an attitude, which is shocking because the food barely mediocre and extremely pricey. This was the 3rd time i ordered, always giving them the benefit and opportunity to improve. But it's not worth it. There are better places in Maspeth to order from. Good food, pleasant location & decor. We were staying nearby while in town for a funeral and met up with my brother-in-law here for a late lunch. We were able to find parking right in front of the restaurant, which is metered parking. Once inside, we were greeted promptly and seated at a table. Everything is fresh and bright inside. If this is indicative of a New York diner, baby, I'm in! (and I know this is not a typical diner or greasy spoon). We perused the menu while waiting for my errant brother-in-law. There were lots of good options for vegetarian/pescetarian eaters like my guys, plus enough to satisfy carnivores and people in between (like me). I had a Dirty French, which was delicious. The orange juice for starters, I didn't specify a size but was given what I guess was a small..which basically measured out to be 1/2 cup. Tasted like straight out of the Minute Maid container. I went with the good eats omelette which was ok, but the goat cheese was just too much. The home fries had no salt whatsoever. And the French toast that I tried, looked luxurious but was so mushy on the inside, it just didn't work given how thick the slices were. Who wants to eat through 1.2 inches thick mush? Also we had some foul mouthed patrons sitting near us..the cursing got old after awhile..maybe they were complaining about their food? Woah! When my friend said she wanted to go to a diner for brunch, I wasn't expecting this. Without a doubt, I will for sure be back! Like any typical diner, the menu is big enough to be a college textbook. So to help narrow things down, I stuck with their weekend brunch menu, hoping/assuming that all the best things would be there. Sure enough, stuffed banana Nutella French toast was there and I was sold. They were out of brioche which it is normally made with, but I got it anyway and just got regular French toast with it. The portion was enormous! Two huge pieces of French toast, sandwiched in-between with Nutella and bananas. I could barely finish one toast and I still had another to go. The portions for everything are huge and everything looked good. I loved my dish and for $16, I couldn't complain. Brunch comes with a drink and even though it was watered down completely, it was still a nice meal. First heard about this diner on the food network channel and I've been coming here ever since. Service is always great and the portions are huge compared to the pricing. This diner is in a populated area so there's plenty of metered parking available if you wanted to come by and was worried if there would be any parking spots available. The only thing is that it's always busy in here so most of the times I come there's a small waiting time before being seated. Found this place through social media, particularly for their very decadent pancake offerings which we had hoped to try on two occasions. 3.5 stars. The first visit we came on a random weeknight (if I remember right) and asked about the specialty pancakes which were scribbled on the board at the entrance, but the server told us that those are "only served during brunch hour", so instead I ordered a pasta dish and the bf ordered some berry french toast and a milkshake. Bummer. When the other reviewers said the portions are huge, they are correct as my pasta came out on a gigantic platter with a gigantic salad that I filled myself with. Portion wise, it's definitely shareable and probably can be family style. The french toast with berries and whipped cream came out stacked high and other diners ogled when they placed it on our table. Everything was actually pretty satisfying and I would rate it a tiny bit above average diner fare because of the quantity. The service was really attentive and polite, our server and busboys seemed to be very enthusiastic. We both agreed to return again to possibly try these pancakes we sought out for whenever our schedules allowed for a weekend breakfast or brunch time. The second visit was an early morning on a Sunday this past July. We were coming home from a long night of a wedding and decided it was our lucky day to try and beat the crowd and try these famous pancakes at 6am as some reviews suggested. The place was practically empty with just one gentleman sipping coffee at the counter. The service was a lot different than our previous visit as it took a bit for the server to acknowledge us and take our orders. He seemed a bit groggy as he sort of placed our cutlery and water glasses pretty hard and loud onto our tables. He handed us the menu which was pretty much the same menu as our evening menu from before and I asked what about the specialty pancakes to which he replied "it's only for brunch hours after 9am". Bummer #2. Nonetheless we ordered our basic breakfasts which were okay, although I wasnt feeling the blandish home fries. Water glasses weren't refilled at all and it sucked after a long tiring night so we waited a bit to get our check, paid and left. Overall, unless I was super hungry and in the area I wouldn't really go out my way to come here since it is a little off the beaten path. Service can be a hit or a miss, I guess. 3.5 stars Came here on a Monday for brunch -- there were no lines and we were greeted to choose any table. The diner was a bit cold since they had the AC blasting. I tried The Grand wrap which included breaded chicken, avocado, bacon, cheddar cheese, with a roasted garlic aioli sauce. I upgraded my fried to the cajun fries for a $1 more and it was worth it. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. The wrap itself was tasty but a bit on the salty side. The initial bite was tasty but the sauce wasn't well distributed throughout the wrap. I also got to try the chicken noodle soup. It came in a small bowl of soup and had plenty of noodles and big chunk of chicken. Pretty decent soup. The service was below mediocre -- we asked for a cup of water and the waitress totally forgot to bring it to us. I went for the Peach Bellini and coffee. Poached eggs were perfectly made and I love the whole avocado I got in my dish because usually, it's never enough! I did think that the hollandaise sauce was too much more like gravy that went better with the home fries than the eggs itself. Huge portion and a great value! Not to mention, it was really good! Peach Bellini was sweet and refreshing. Coffee is better than average quality. I am impressed! They were amazing! :) And the brunch special comes with juice, coffee, and hash browns. The portions were huge! I could not finish it and had to take it to go, like 2 of the pancakes at least. The whip cream they had used was really good. I couldn't make out the flavor, but it was different. I would recommend ordering one entree and sharing it. The service was okay. One waiter only takes the beverage orders and asks us to wait for the main waiter to take our food orders. I thought that was weird. The portions for every dish we ordered, whether the fries on the side or the waffles, were easily big enough to feed 2 people on their own. We ordered the Cajun Eggs Benedict and a standard breakfast platter. The Eggs Benny were very bland, and we weren't sure where the Cajun part came into the dish. My wife gave up with the eggs benny and we ended up splitting the breakfast platter, which again was just OK. I ordered a mushroom and onion omelet with a side of bacon.. Everything was delicious, the ingredients fresh, the home fries were super tasty, and the bacon was cooked perfectly crispy. Also my omelet order came with tea, juice and toast which is always nice. I've also had their shrimp wrap with fries ($11.95): huge fresh shrimp with mushroom, avocado, bacon and goat cheese (got mine without the cheese), and a side of onion rings. Solid food all around. Their cole slaw is good too, and I think they brine their own pickles (it's the first time I've ever had a pickle I liked!). Service was extremely friendly and fast. This is officially my go-to diner :) ETA: Avoid the stuffed mushrooms. They aren't stuffed, they take baby portobellos, leave the stems on, and cover them completely with their crab meat stuffing.
