Stopped by Rego Park Cafe for a quick lunch. At its core it's a classic old-school diner, complete with the pages-long laminated menu with everything from pancakes to chicken parmesan, and dated yet charming booths. But the diner vibe wasn't what drew me in--it was the birria tacos. While not listed on the menu, a prominent sign outside advertises them. The tacos were impressively large. They were served authentically on two nicely seared tortillas per taco. The beef was tender and juicy and loaded alongside onions and cilantro. The server didn't initially bring out consomé, so we did have to ask (no birria taco is complete without it!). An order comes with three tacos for about $16-$17. If you're looking for authentic, hearty birria tacos in the neighborhood, Rego Park Cafe is your best bet. read more

We happened to be headed towards Rego Park, so we searched for a diner in the area to try. My wife found this place and reluctantly, expecting more of the same sucky diner experiences we've had thus far, we took a look. Imagine the pleasant surprise it was for us when greeted by a smiling older lady, being immediately offered our drinks, and receiving prompt food and service. Now continue to imagine the surprise that I felt when we received our food, and the shock that went through my system as I bit into some home fries where I could actually taste the potato, the pepper and onions that were mixed in.  Let us continue this fantasy towards some corn beef that was also quite delicious.  This was before I even started on my plate, I was mooching off of my wife's at this point. Now I look down and gaze upon my french toast, fried egg, bacon, ham and sausage in awe and wonder. What great surprise awaits me as I prepare to indulge on this meal?  Will I continue to rise upon the gates of heaven or will I return back to a bland tasteless diner experience on earth? No, my ascent continued. The food on my plate was just as delicious and flavorful as all of the food on my wife's plate. Ladies and gentlemen we have a winner. Should we decide to go out for a diner experience in this area, this is the place henceforth. We cleaned out our plates on this one! It's a bit out of the way for us, but well worth it for a delicious dining experience.  We went after 12:30pm, closer to 1pm and there was no wait or line. I would imagine if we went earlier that aspect of it may be different, but it would be worth it if the food quality is consistent. First time here with a friend for a quick coffee date post the gym. We each had coffee and a bagel. She has her with cream cheese and mine was with butter. The jello was kinda gross, filled up those little paper cups usually the ketchup comes in as refills. 2 coffees and 2 bagels were almost $18 with tip - a rip off in my opinion. Pancake craving. Cane in here because I'd been having a pancake craving for weeks and searched on both Google and Yelp for place with great pancakes. This place came up on both and was close to where I was. Food: i ordered pancakes only not the deluxe. It was just okay. The chocolate chip pancakes were recommended and were a bit gummy/chewy. And syrup was not the right consistency (not runny). These are not great pancakes but edible... O my because of the chocolate chips and side of butter. Price: Pancakes alone were $9. Rego Park Cafe is a decent medium size diner. Like most diners, they serve breakfast all day and their menu is very extensive with the choices of cuisine mainly being American (all kinds of sandwiches, burgers, meatloaf, soup, salad), Greek, Mexican and Italian. My friend and I ordered some gyro platters and the portions were very generous. They gave us a lot of french fries and salad. They were a little stingy on the gyro meat, but the overall amount of food was fair for the price. Service was very quick too. And for those who are too curious, they are following covid safety guidelines. Temperatures are being taken at the door and tables have been separated to ensure they maintain the mandated 25% occupancy. Ever since long time neighborhood staple Shalimar Diner closed down, this is your best bet for a passable diner. read more

Omg steak was RAW!!! Not rare, completely RAW. All the food was terrible. Pancakes were cold and rubbery. Pancake syrup was low quality, butter wasnt butter I think it was margerine. My food arrived cold! My chicken tenders were in a plastic bag and my cheese fries were seasoned (yuck) I asked for brown gravy on the side and didn't get any. Got a St.Petersburg panini and the grease was dripping off of it. Ordered carrot cake and didn't get that either but was charged for it. (Grubhub refunded) they threw what would be a guess is some kind of spinach thing in a paper bag without any wrapping around it. I asked for napkins and utensils and didn't get any! Food prices have increased, quality and quantity has decreased. ALSO beware it is ILLEGAL to charge a service fee with a DEBIT card. Visa has confirmed this and I have addressed this issue twice with staff and owner who completely disregard the law. They try to run card as a credit card to justify the fee but it clearly states it's a debit charge. She told me it was tax and I said there is a different amount for tax. On a night when I felt too tired to even light the stove, I placed an order with Rego Park Cafe. The menu lists standard diner fare but I was craving a burger and was happy to see a vegetarian option. Having online ordering available makes the process an antisocial introvert's dream - I was able to place and even customize my veggie burger deluxe (no butter or mayo on the bun, extra ketchup) without having to pick up the phone and speak to another human being. I got to the diner to pick up my order about five minutes after I placed it, being fully prepared to wait for it. There were only two other diners and with the rundown appearance of the small railway style interior, it had a somewhat depressing feel on a Monday night. Still, the man who confirmed my order was quick and polite, calling back the specifics of my order to the kitchen. There was a small snafu with the cash register when it locked, but he and another worker dug pickup took about seven minutes and I found myself impressed with the celerity in spite of the diner's obviously unglamorous appearance. The veggie burger deluxe came with lettuce, tomato, pickles, piping hot fries, and coleslaw. By the time I sat down at home several minutes later, it was still hot and prepared to my specifications, albeit a little crumbly (a common problem with veggie burgers and not their fault). Online ordering was seamless and service (at least, on a quiet Monday) was just fine. Went here for the first time last week as I pass it daily and have always wanted to check it out. The inside is so cute, like a little diner with booths. I ordered a basic small coffee and a bagel with cream cheese. Said my order multiple times to make sure the woman at the counter heard me through my mask. Got my order to go and again, asked her if my bagel was with cream cheese before I left. She said yes. See picture attached. I had breakfast here. Eggs were lifeless and flavorless, pancakes tasted like cardboard (likely no eggs in the batter). Bacon and home fries was ok. Coffee tasted off, not better than your home brew. Four stars for ambiance and great company alone! This place is cozy, cute, cheap, friendly, all of the things a good little diner should be. For like $5 you can get a pretty big omelet, potatoes, toast and coffee. Don't know whats so special about this place. My friends go there every weekend for breakfast. The pricing is definitely not on par with a cafe of this size. Rather, think diner prices but food was too salty and my home fries were very dry. Some might like it for the small/ family like setting decor. We left him a 300% tip but needless to say, we will never be visiting this diner again. No No No this place is not worth the ten minute walk we took to get here. We waited for 15 mins for anyone to approach us. We didn't have menus and then it took another 15 mins for a waiter to come back and take our order. My meal came with a small orange juice, don't expect to share this with someone. When they mean small that meant double shot glass, small. I really wish I took a picture of how small it was. The food is typical diner food, nothing great. The prices are good with ok portions, they aren't huge, but they are filling for me. It seems that a lot of families come here because it's crawling with little kids running around. This place has been here eons and has a classic Queens native dish that is hard to find these days; pizza fries! An order of fries with layers of Italian tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese smothering the fries. I come here for the nostalgia of having them here when I was a child. And it's as good as I remember it. The quality of most of the other menu items are still vintage good and since most of the local diners in Queens lost their crowns in quality these days, it leaves this place peculiarly in top rank. I live out on the Island now and had always revered Queens diners as superior to diners on the island, but that has drastically changed. This place gets extremely busy so there will be times your order suffers from it. But mostly they really know their diner food. You will notice there isn't anyone who works there with English as a 1st language but they know the menu well. You'll see other other reviews being fussy about use of pronouns or perplexity of why they're busy. Are you there looking for scholars or there to eat? If you have difficulty finding this place, it's situated right next to a MET'S FOOD supermarket on 63rd drive The Food: The pancakes and eggs taste like shit. Their sausage seem it was frozen and the cake was soggy. There is a diner feeling when you enter but you'd want to walk right back out when you see the flood of senior citizens in the restaurant. The wait staff seem somewhat 1980s with their aprons and their lipsticks. I would say, avoid this place and try the diner three blocks down towards Austin Street. Anyway, the diner looks kinda dingy and dated - I figure it gives the place some character - but not really. I just looks a little dirty with the outdated stuff. The food was okay... My home fries was as dry as a bag of flour, but it's decent. The service got worst each time I went, if I get services at all. If you got time and really want diner food, go up a couple blocks. Not bad, not great. Can't beat the pancakes special. You can hire a more competent staff though. The main waitress tends to forget you even exist, let alone get your food in a timely matter. One of my experiences, I even saw my food waiting there for 10 minutes on the hot plate counter while the waitress was chit-chatting with a friend of hers.
