    Good variety of groceries.
    Melinda L.

Food Selection: 4/5 Prices: 3/5 Look & Feel: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 stars So there's no doubt this is a huge market, but walking into the store was like walking back in time - somewhere in the early 90s, but no one did any renovation or upgrades in many parts of the market. It's really, really, REALLY rundown looking. The refrigeration systems and the shelves look fairly dated. But their overall stock is full here and there's staff walking around restocking and even watching you while you walk through. There's definitely a good variety of ingredients and brands I didn't really recognize, so they carry a lot of things. The prices on many items here were like conveinence store prices, but maybe it's like that for the the city and area. So lots of selection, but absolutely not much of a vibe here - just shop and that's it. They do play Cantonese and Mandarin songs on the speaker system, so that's kind of cool. Parking can be tight if you come here during a busy hour.

9/30/2024 @ 9:06 am - Upon checking out at station 5 by cashier #142, she boldly stated that my son and I were standing there doing nothing, and that we could have used that time to bag the groceries with the two bags we purchased. I asked her if grocery bagging was no longer a part of their service. Cashier #142 said you are not old or disabled, especially since your son is young and is just standing there doing nothing. I asked her to define disability, how she could tell if my son is not disabled, and why customers who paid for the groceries deserve a scolding from her. She continued to complain while bagging the groceries. I will be making a formal complaint to the store about discrimination.

This place is definitely no H-Mart, but for those that are looking for a quick item or two to grab specifically in an Asian Market, this place will do the job. It's definitely cleaner than Green Market in El Monte, so I'll give that a bonus star as a start. They've got a lot of the items that I've been seeing on Tik tok, for example the instant hot pot and the canned boba as well some Ube items, which if you wanna learn thing about me, Ube has my heart. I came with my mom who ordered some fish and produce to cook at home along with some Asian medicine which you can't find at any other traditional American markets. Again, this place isn't the best, but for those Asian delicacies that you're looking for, it works.

    Faded expiration date.

We bought the item from here. While at home we realized that a faded details of the product read - "best before 06/24/2023." It's scratch up on the front side of bag where the faded details compared to the back of the bag. That item was on sale. Health inspection department do check Yelp right?

I have been to this Asian market a few times and am actually surprised that the price of produce is really cheap. But you do have to be aware that the fruits may not last as long as maybe going to another market like Smart & Final or Stater Bro's. Also there have been times when I have seen produce starting to mold/ have spots. During cherry season, I was surprised to find that this market sold rainier cherries (I actually love these more than the red ones) for $1.98 per pound where as other places are selling them for anywhere from $5 to $7 per pound. It is very busy when some of their produce like that is very cheap (because you know you just aren't the only one who thinks that is a good deal). The rest of the market itself has a similar layout as what you would expect at other Asian markets. And on our past visits, the market has been clean and did not have that familiar odor that may be associated with Asian markets. One thing I thought was interesting though about this market is that you need to have a minimum purchase of at least $5 for credit card transactions. I have only seen a small number of markets that have a minimum for credit card transactions and just wanted to bring that up for those that don't normally carry cash but wish to grocery shop here.

They had exactly the same shape and color as the ones I usually bought from Chinese markets, but they were not cooked. Once defrosted, they practically melted into water. Vietnamese markets also sell many kinds of fish by weight. Most of them are good, but you need real experience when buying raw seafood. Otherwise, it is very easy to waste money. Thuan Phat is a typical Vietnamese market in this sense. You can get most of the ingredients a Chinese family needs. Their fried or dried pork skin is actually much better than what I have found in most Chinese grocery stores. But again, only buy what you know.
