My first time using movers and this company did a great job. They worked fast but carefully (including a spinet piano). I did not have any small items to pack or move, just furniture, but they took great care to not damage the items and the flooring/walls. I researched many moving companies and heard horrow stories about most. Chris from Good Moves was so available for my questions and concerns, even after hours. I needed a quick turn-around time and he accommodated my needs. His movers were exceptionally courteous and worked very fast and professionally. The only downside of the move was that the estimate was less than the actual. Since they charged by weight and provided proof of the weight, I was satisfied with the final charges. Although my husband gave each mover a generous tip, they in no way solicited the tip. It was very refreshing to see that as it is a big turn-off for me if someone asks for their own tip. I'm a little torn here since the actual guys that did the move were so good and professional. My review centers squarely on the owner Chris. My wife and I had 2 homes....moved them to storage...and then moved from storage in 2 moves to a bigger home. GoodMove (GM) did the entire job. Things go wrong in all businesses. It's how you react to the problems is what counts. Trust me to anyone reading this review...any company you hire will have a bump or 2 with your move. If you select GoodMove you will get an owner that won't make an effort to fix the issue at hand but merely try to argue with phrases like "well, all other moving companies do this too" or "sorry, I am too busy to attend to your problem." Before I list only SOME of my issues I want it to be clear that I have saved emails, pictures and tons of items to document my FACTS below. 1. We had a moving target move date at first. We had a date back in Sept we had to cancel. Then we had a date in Nov that needed to move by 1 week. I learned of the delay while on a business trip so I (stupidly) called Chris instead of an email where we confirmed the move date of Nov 21. Multiple calls around the new date. The date came and the trucks did not. I called Chris in a panic and he proceeded to argue. Not to fix it but to argue. As if I screwed up the only date I cared about for that entire month. Like I got it wrong. It took my screaming to get him to find a truck and guys somewhere and get the move started. We all have moved dozens of times. How would you feel if on the date of your move your mover forgot about the date and then instead of fixing it started to tell you that you weren't clear with him?? 2. We moved from 2 homes so Chris thought it best to have 2 shipments come on separate days to our new home. Fine. I spoke to him on the phone, text message and over email a number of times to confirm the 1st shipment needed to be our ENTIRE home from Central IL first. No problem. Day of the move we noticed no TVs on the shipment. We have a 3 yr old that didn't take kindly to Mom and Dad unloading boxes and not paying enough attention to him. Chris made the executive decision to remove the TVs from the shipment without EVER checking with me first. He saw how upset I was and made no effort to fix the problem except to argue. Then, a box with all of our bedding was missing so we were to sleep on bare mattresses that night. I called Chris countless times. Texted him countless times. No reply from 1pm all the way till 7pm. He finally responds and says "Dan - I can't speak with you now. I'm sorry. I will call you in the morning." How's that for service?! That's an actual verbatim text I saved for anyone to see. 3. There was over $600 of damage to our property during the final move. Fine. We filled out the claim paperwork and submitted to his Admin. He tells us he'll have the claim closed in 60 days even though law says 90 days. Wonderful. 90 days go by and nothing. I have to continually email (learned my lesson) him to get a resolution. Nothing. One reply was "I've just been avoiding the fatigue and anguish I know I am going to experience after this conversation." That's an actual quote. It took my call to the Illinois Moves Association to get him to even address my issues. His answer?(paraphrasing) "You filled out the form wrong. You're entitled to $33." Folks, this is too long already. My issues above are well documented and truly the tip of the iceberg. I could write about no less than 10 things that went wrong during the moves but there was one common thread: Chris' unwillingness to take ownership and try to resolve the issue. Feel free to ask me questions and to doubt any response you see from the Owner until you see the stack of emails, texts and notes I have from the worst move(s) I have ever experienced. read more

Good Move helped me move over a year ago. I was finally able to get my issues with them resolved last week. The move was estimated at 3 1/2 hours from one apt to another within Chicago. Because of the management at my new building, there was a delay that I will very liberally estimate at an hour. Therefore, the job should have taken 4/12 hours. It took 7 and I was charged for every penny. The crew that moved was horrible. They were careless bringing things up and stacking them. A bookcase was placed upside down. One of my leather couches was damaged on the way in and the crew blamed it on the thin doorways. They did not take the door off the frame though. They brought in a sleeper sofa that was intended for a bedroom and the crew stated they could not get it through the door (once again they did not take the door off). The crew chief even told me that "if anyone could do it, it would be him," but they were unable to. I later was able to maneuver the couch in myself, but given I am only one person (they were four) I had to spend hours taking it apart and reassembling it. The crew was slow, they were lazy (they made sure to take every minute of their breaks) and they were not careful. It was one of the worst experiences we've ever had. After the move we filed a claim with the movers, which they had 90 days to settle. We told Chris that we wanted a full refund plus damage repairs. We understand the concept of insurance with the move, but we thought that we were at least entitled to a refund for the extremely lousy service we had received. The crew chief refused to come out to our place to review the move with us. We had to grant them multiple extensions which finally resulted in us having to reach out to the furniture company about a warranty ourselves. We went back and forth for months and months, trying to find someone to repair the couch that would charge Chris an acceptable price. We were not able to. When Chris mentioned going to court, we realized that we would just have to take whatever we could get. We paid $1,500 to move a 2 bedroom apt and after a year's worth of back and forth, were able to recover slightly more than a third of that. This company is flat out awful and should be avoided at all costs. The movers are unreliable and they do not value customer service in any way shape or form. Absolutely horrendous. read more

I am very surprised by the other four reviews for Good Move Movers, and I am starting to wonder if we caught them on an "off" day. Regardless, the fact remains that this was arguably the worst move I have ever experienced. Initially, the movers were 30 minutes early and off to a great start...until they disappeared for an hour. We were moving out of a condo in Chicago and had a very tight set amount of time that the freight elevator would be available to us (12:30). Needless to say, every second counted in this move. When they did finally return, it seemed as though they weren't going to move much of anything due to certain restrictions...some of which I can understand (chemicals, etc.). However, they all but refused to box individual loose items up and took about an hour telling us this (not including a call and visit from the owner or manager - not sure). Once they started moving, they were the true definition of inefficiency. In a massive freight elevator, they (3 of them) would take down three pushcarts at a time, ride the elevator down, and load it in the truck and then all three return back to the condo. The push carts would have taken up about half of the elevator had they used the space more efficiently, therefore leaving more room to load up on. After a few rotations, they disappeared for about an hour (meanwhile, we were still being charged). It got to the point where we had to call the owner or manager (Chris) again to see what the holdup was. After a brief conversation with the movers, it seemed like he introduced them to a different method and things started to move along for about an hour or so. Then, they disappear again. When they returned at 12:15 and still had half the condo to move, we explained again the time crunch that we were on....12:30 we lose the elevator. This is when one of the movers started getting aggressive and started throwing the kids toys into the elevator and did not understand why I started yelling at them for doing that. Finally, at 2:30 we get out of the condo (6 hours - billed hourly of course). Luckily the next place is about a block away....how long can it take three professionals to unload a truck? Based on how they threw stuff in the truck, I can understand how it took another (almost) 4 hours to unload. This is not to mention the destroyed antiques that (were weak when they initially moved them), scratched floors, walls and doors. Even after the complaints throughout the entire day, they still tried to charge full price (10 hours @ 169 per hour). The condo is a two bedroom +patio and SMALL storage unit that was on rolling shelves which they literally had to roll down to the truck...no packing, lifting, etc. The ONLY positive thing I have to say about this company is the main point of contact was incredibly professional and even started to help and work with the other three men. read more

I had to reschedule a move with very little notice due to a bank error and they did not charge me a cent to do so; the moving rate was highly competitive as well. Bo and Aleksander organized my move on June 1st of this year and I couldn't have asked for a better experience from start to finish. I was desperately searching for a moving company due to a late lease signing in May and Good Move Movers really came to the rescue. I called on a Friday evening and spoke with Chris the owner who took my call even though it was definitely "off hours" he gathered everything he needed to put together an estimate and collected a deposit to hold my spot. Within 48 hours (it would have been quicker if it was during the week) I not only received email confirmation of the deposit receipt but also a scanned copy of my estimate. Talk about professional in a world of moving companies that aren't!!! The night before my move Bo my main mover called to confirm and even asked if they could start early- heck yea you can let's get this move over with! They quoted us 7am start and sure enough at 6:59 they were at the door ready to start. Our crew of 3 guys reviewed what needed to move and got to work- they were extremely organized, careful, kind (they even shared their bottled water with us) and overall just super nice great guys!! They were very careful with everything from our larger items (bedroom set, bookcase & sleeper sofa) to our small fragile items as well. They even helped us pack the portable bags & such we wanted with us in our car. They coordinated their journey with us from Rogers Park to Wicker Park and let us know they may arrive after us due to the fact trucks can't drive on certain roads (understandable). Believe it or not we both arrived at the new apartment at the same time! Once at the new apartment Bo and crew surveyed the space & got to work! They only asked that one of us be available to coordinate where we wanted everything which was just great! They even offered to put together our bed frame and dining room set- just overall an outstanding crew of guys. They had us completely moved and paperwork signed by 10:30am and that includes a 30 min driving commute from the old place to the new apartment! We chose this company based on the reviews and it was the lowest price of all 3 quotes I received. The owner came out to do an on site estimate and grossly underestimated the job. We should have had a semi. We hired them for packing and moving. The packing was good until they ran out of boxes and started adding items to my already neatly organized bins (that I packed previously) in my basement. They opened my bins that need not be opened and took stuff out of them and moved items to other bins and boxes to make room for all the other items they still had to pack. This included my family heirlooms. They also placed heavy books inside my Christmas ornaments Bin. There were cans of paint inside my old pictures box and we told them not to move that paint as it was for the old house. Who puts cans of paint in a treasured photo box? We cannot find out sheets or our TV cables. The guys wear nice enough but one was very haphazard in the packing. About 30% of the boxes were not labeled which made unpacking difficult. My recommendation: Use Burna Moving instead. read more

The only complaint I have, and this was discovered after I left, is the way they put my bed together, the mattress is on a higher rung than before and has caused issues of for me. Good move movers was fantastic. I had initially been recommended another place but given that I booked in such short noticed during "high moving season" I found GMM at the last minute and they did not disappoint. Chris is very much on top of everything, called the day before to make sure I didn't need any packing and plan ahead for the move day. They also called a couple of days earlier to confirm elevatory time. I was very nervous the day of the move, as I had a limited elevator time and was concerned that my management company will be give me harder time than they already had given me. I also had NEVER hired movers before and was really concerned with the expense. Bo's team came the day of them move, right on time. They were great, incredibly professional, respectful and FAST. The estimate I received was for three hours and they moved everything in two! Everything came back in one piece. It was such a relief after packing for a week to see everything move so smoothly. I didn't have much furniture to move, just lots to bags with books and clothing, and lots of fragile boxes, and had planned from the beginning to move it myself with friends-big mistake. After a week of packing and planning, it was completely worth it to just sit back and let the professionals do their thing. Totally recommend it. read more

They were extremely flexible with our dates and moved us out of our 6 BR home in Wilmette efficiently, quickly and within the time they stated. We used a POD to store our household furniture for a few months while we remodeled our new home and the Good move guys did a fantastic job loading this large container. They let me use the moving blankets while our stuff was stored for a small fee and refunded the security deposit hassle free. Moving is a drill and these folks are friendly and professional. We called Good Move Movers in the spring to get a quote when we listed our house for sale just to get an idea of how much it would be to move all our stuff out of our house we had lived in for nearly 13 years, most of which we didn't have when we bought our house and didn't want to to carry out of it ourselves. They weren't the cheapest, but they were one of only two companies that came out to our house, looked around to get a good idea of what we had to move, and provided us with a good ballpark quote for moving out of our old house, into our new house and maybe storing our stuff for some time. Well, we thought we'd be out of our house by mid June, but a week before closing our deal fell through. Long story short, our transaction ultimately didn't finalize 'til mid-September. And in the meantime we had to cancel the movers three times before we finally got our closing date set in stone and had to move out more quickly than we had anticipated. Chris was so flexible with all our insane changes, and Art and his guys were courteous, did a great job and all our things arrived in good condition at our new place for cheaper than we had anticipated since we didn't have to use their storage services after all. All in all our moving experience was way less painful than we had envisioned, and we would recommend these guys and their moving company to anyone. A++ read more

This was the worst move of my life. I have moved four times in the Chicago area in the last 10 years and I have never experienced anything like this. I received a quote to move the contents of my house. The moving day, the crew arrived an hour late because of some issue with their truck. Their attitude was incredibly negative and unprofessional, they made me feel uncomfortable in my own house the whole day. I have never dealt with anyone in the service industry like this people, they were condescending, they did not listen to anything I had to say and did their job inefficiently, slowly and carelessly. The worst part was that they left half of the contents of my house, so I have to hire other movers to finish the job. The crew boss, Ron, offered to come back the following week to finish the job for a price, he obviously was in no hurry to finish the job, since he was expecting to be paid twice for the same job. These people are scam artists, stay away from this company, I would have given them negative starts if that was possible. read more

I would not recommend these movers to anyone! They were supposed to come between 9 and 10 a.m., but called to say they would be late because the move before us from the day before had three times the amount that was reported. So, the movers had to finish the earlier move that morning before they could come in to us. The new arrival time was 11 30. At noon, I called and Chris told me they would come at 2:00. Then the driver called and said he was in Elmhurst and didn't expect to leave there until 4 30 and didn't know when they would be able to get to us! I complained vehemently to Chris who told me he and the owner were going to go to Elmhurst and help out so that our move could happen that day. Well, the move did happen and the movers arrived at 4 30...a far cry from the arrival time we agreed upon. To add insult to injury, we learned that the problem was not that they had a move that was much more then expected but they squeezed in two moves before us causing our move to be unacceptably delayed. In short, Chris lied to us, and inconvenienced us and several other parties that we were coordinating this move with, by overbooking their moves. I repeat, do not use these movers and don't let their Better Business endorsement fool you! read more
