Barclay Hill used to be a great place to take our cats, but then they got bought out…read more We've now had two recent separate experiences here with two different cats that followed the same pattern: the cats tolerated handling and exams initially, but once taken into the back, they became stressed and the visit essentially stopped there. At our most recent appointment, we brought in a friendly stray cat hoping to get her vaccinated, tested for FeLV/pregnancy, and treated for fleas and ear mites. Once she became tense in the back room during handling, we were told she had "run out of kitty minutes" and that she would need sedation before returning. Aside from flea treatment, none of the additional care we came in for was completed. I understand not wanting to push a highly stressed animal past its limit. But for the extreme prices being charged, I expected more practical solutions, more professional handling strategies, or at minimum a clearer plan to accomplish basic diagnostics and care within the same visit. The overall experience felt inefficient, expensive, and limited in what could actually be accomplished compared to working with seasoned staff. We'll be seeking veterinary care elsewhere.

I have a fancy bear hamster who has a large growth on her cheek that popped up out of nowhere. I…read morecalled them yesterday morning and they were able to fit me in at 1:50pm the same day. That was a good first impression and I had high hopes for the appointment. Also, there's not many exotic vets in this area, so I was very pleased that they were available. I showed up five minutes early, checked in and was immediately escorted to an exam room. The assistant was friendly and polite, I answered a few standard questions about my hamster and then I waited in the exam room for 20 minutes before the vet showed up. I was the only person in the waiting room when I got there so I found that a little odd. She did a quick examination (less than five minutes) and said that the growth looks infected, but she wasn't sure what exactly was in the mass (could be old food and/or bedding or possibly a cyst). She immediately said that my hamster needs surgery and there was a vet available who could do the surgery that afternoon. She told me about the risks of anesthesia, which I appreciated. Then she said I could wait in the waiting room while she prepares the cost estimate, which she would give to me right away. It was now roughly 2:20pm and I assumed that the paperwork for the cost estimate wouldn't take more than 15 minutes. At that point there were several people with their pets (cats and dogs) in the waiting room and they were all seen and went home before that vet ever came out of the back to show me the cost estimate. I felt frustrated (and so did my hamster who kept chewing on her carrier) so I asked one of the receptionists how much longer it would take (it was now around 3:00pm--I had been waiting 40 minutes just for the cost estimate). She went to the back, immediately came back and told me that the vet will be out in a minute. Sure enough, the vet came out a minute later, seemed flustered and gave some excuse about how "there's a lot going on in the back". She gave me the cost estimate, which was between $500 and $800. Well, I'm sorry, but that's out of my price range. I let her know I'd think about it, she tried to talk me into it for a few minutes, realized that I wasn't going to give in and then a whole new option suddenly came up--she could give me antibiotics and pain medication for my hamster instead. Wait--what?? A whole other option?! Why wasn't I told this during the exam? Hmm...wait a minute...pain meds and antiobiotics only cost around $65 dollars total so I'm thinking there was an ulterior motive to only mention the surgery at first? Sure, the medication might not fix my hamster's health issue, but I should have at least been told about this option from the start. Anyway, I still had to wait another 20 or 25 minutes for the medication, which meant I was there for a total of two hours (unlike the cat and dog owners who were in and out in less than 30 minutes). I wonder how long it would have taken the vet to come out to show me the cost estimate if I hadn't complained and I wonder how long I would have had to wait if I had gone ahead with the surgery :-/ In a nutshell, they seemed great for cat and dog owners, not so much for hamster owners and possibly other exotic pet owners.

With all of our previous vets we had emergent issues that would have required us to either pay an emergency vet or wait weeks. All of the staff were friendly and helpful and judge free. They manage a lot of care on the app. The app is great for vaccine and flea med reminders as well as communicating with your care team for questions. I feel like with other vets they won't answer questions over the phone even simple ones without an appointment. Price point is high- but they have to run a business I'm sure the cost of running a clinic like this is steep as well. A little more price transparency would be good.

I live on the East side so I'd chosen a vet close to home but it's Dr. Chris who has come to my aid and helped me through some panicky/tough times with my cats. My cat Jilly stopped eating and before I knew it, she was skin and bones. She is already a dainty cat, and really furry, so it didn't take long for her bones of her spine to start protruding. I could not get her in to the vet near me so Dr. Chris analyzed the situation and calmed my fears. It was hyper-thryoid and after getting her onto meds, Jilly gained her weight back and is back to being her frisky self. My boy kitty, Jacky, died very suddenly not too long ago. He was 13 and both my vet and the emergency vet hospital said he probably had liver or kidney disease and there would have been very little they could have done for him. Dr. Chris concurred and had a long talk with me about my current situation. Numerous friends are pushing me to get another cat, but Jilly hates other cats (Jacky being an exception, because I got them both as kittens). Dr. Chris explained that cats are not pack animals and getting another cat might actually really stress her out and cause illness to her. That eased my mind a great deal. Jilly fights the neighbor cats by attacking my sliding glass doors. She continually attacked the rescue cat I took in a few years ago, who ran away after I let him out to play in the backyard (where I originally found him). Dr. Chris was giving me rational advice. She understands animals and knows what's best for them. Jilly wants me for herself and would prefer solitude while I am am work than sharing her home with a new cat. Dr. Chris is incredibly caring and gives solid, smart advice. I know that I can always trust her to level with me about what is best for my baby Jilly.

After just a couple of sessions, the change in Raisin's quality and speed of movement are apparent. She even played on the beach for much longer than she has in years! Having Raisin be assessed and treated by Dr. Jester on a regular basis is such an important part of our plan keep her healthy and happy for as long as possible. I'm not sure if my house…read morehas a sign, or a scent, but we have kitties who literally walk up our driveway and wait for us (or me, more specifically). We had one kit cat come for help during the ice storms. She was skinny, freezing and crying. My poor husband has finally realized that his wife is a crazy animal lady. We brought her in and isolated her in our downstairs bathroom so that we could treat her flea infestation. Big fans of flea bath, capstar and a month long flea treatment. We named her Mira and got her into this clinic. My regular one didn't have openings for a few weeks. They found her micro chip, however we also found that it was never registered. We searched all the lost pet forums, pages and all the apps to no avail. So we got her up to date with shots and back to good health. My friend ended up becoming her furever home. We've found two others since then, the last one just this month we couldn't come back (too long of a schedule out period) but I will say that we've always been pleased with our care here. They've handled our strays with care and compassion, and understanding that these kitties aren't as acclimated to much human attention. I highly recommend this vet.

And…read moreas she did, we took him to the VCA emergency hospital and then to Dr Henson, who is his regular vet. But we had the exact opposite experience. Long story short, VCA was horrible. We were there for 12 hours and they did nothing but take a blood test and sedate him. We called Dr Henson the next day. She had a full schedule and could have told us to make an appointment for another day, but instead told us that she'd see him that day between appointments. She gassed him to sleep, extracted the urine and sent us home with some morphine. He is much better today and is back to pissing like a racehorse. I will admit that she can be gruff, and to be frank this was off-putting at first. She could use a refresher course on bedside manner (sorry doc, but I calls 'em as I sees 'em) but we have never had a vet who cares more about her patients. That is obvious to the most casual observer. This woman is passionate about cats. If you want someone who gives a damn about your beloved pet, doesn't charge ridiculous fees and try to up-sell you every chance they get,(Cat Care Professionals, those last two points are yours) check your tender little feelings at the door as we did and put your pet's needs first. You won't find anyone better in these here parts. Period.

I realize my experience doesn't have anything to do with acute problems in younger animals that may need surgery, etc., but I was impressed with the compassion and with the speed in which they took care of both of my cats when we were experiencing end of life choices.
