On a recommendation from a friend we decided to make the switch to cascade summit animal hospital for our primary vet. I was shocked that they were able to get us in so quickly. With all of our previous vets we had emergent issues that would have required us to either pay an emergency vet or wait weeks. All of the staff were friendly and helpful and judge free. They manage a lot of care on the app. The app is great for vaccine and flea med reminders as well as communicating with your care team for questions. I feel like with other vets they won't answer questions over the phone even simple ones without an appointment. Price point is high- but they have to run a business I'm sure the cost of running a clinic like this is steep as well. A little more price transparency would be good. read more

I am incredibly grateful for Dr. Chris Ortner, because she's been there for my Jilly, when I could not get her into her vet. I live on the East side so I'd chosen a vet close to home but it's Dr. Chris who has come to my aid and helped me through some panicky/tough times with my cats. My cat Jilly stopped eating and before I knew it, she was skin and bones. She is already a dainty cat, and really furry, so it didn't take long for her bones of her spine to start protruding. I could not get her in to the vet near me so Dr. Chris analyzed the situation and calmed my fears. It was hyper-thryoid and after getting her onto meds, Jilly gained her weight back and is back to being her frisky self. My boy kitty, Jacky, died very suddenly not too long ago. He was 13 and both my vet and the emergency vet hospital said he probably had liver or kidney disease and there would have been very little they could have done for him. Dr. Chris concurred and had a long talk with me about my current situation. Numerous friends are pushing me to get another cat, but Jilly hates other cats (Jacky being an exception, because I got them both as kittens). Dr. Chris explained that cats are not pack animals and getting another cat might actually really stress her out and cause illness to her. That eased my mind a great deal. Jilly fights the neighbor cats by attacking my sliding glass doors. She continually attacked the rescue cat I took in a few years ago, who ran away after I let him out to play in the backyard (where I originally found him). Dr. Chris was giving me rational advice. She understands animals and knows what's best for them. Jilly wants me for herself and would prefer solitude while I am am work than sharing her home with a new cat. This clinic is great. Hands down the most thorough, knowledgeable treatment we've received before. Dr. Laura, Dr. Martindale, Kayla, Taylor, Olivia...everyone I've come into contact with here seems to truly care about animals and providing a good experience, whether it's an office visit, surgery, or teeth cleaning (we did all three). I only came to this clinic as a stop-gap during a move, and I can comfortably say that I'll be going out of my way to bring my dog here in the future. It's worth the drive. One thing to note for clients: I saw a review about how they're pushing pet insurance, questioning if they get a cut of insurance sold. Folks, pet insurance is SO important. The clinic doesn't get anything for it. They're trying to save you and your pet from extraordinary heartache if your pet inevitably needs medical care that gets turned down due to cost. Like medical care for humans, proper care for pets costs money; the difference between having it or not can be tens of thousands of dollars, or worse (not getting proper testing or treatment, or putting your pet down prematurely). All it takes is seeing this happen once to never go without it again, and I would imagine vets see it happen a lot. Trupanion has been a godsend for our family, and is often called out over other companies because they reimburse at 90% instead of fixed schedules. Dr. Ortner and her team are excellent! I have a 10 year old chihuahua who recently had renal failure. After a week in an emergency hospital, we were very confused and didn't know what our next steps should be. We were told he needed to stay in the hospital, but he also was miserable being in a scary and chaotic setting. Dr. Ortner took a phone call with me to discuss his situation and we made a plan to bring him home, administer meds at home and continue to check on him at the clinic to be sure he continued to get better. Dr, Ortner clearly cared about our dog and also understood the value of an animal coming home to their family. Her advice was so helpful and I'm pleased to say that our dog is thriving and healthy again. He may always need a little more medical intervention over his senior years, but now that we're in the hands of Summit Hospital, I know he will have a long, healthy and happy life. The front office workers were so helpful and friendly. I was really happy with both Hadley and Dr. Laura. Hadley was super friendly and took a very detailed history of my dog and her situation. Dr. Laura was great, she was gentle with Kiele and talked with me in great detail on what was going on. I inquired about doing a very expensive test I've heard of and I really appreciated her letting me know that we weren't there yet and we could try a few treatments and revisit if needed. With so few veterinarians these days, I was grateful to get an appointment quickly and not feel rushed. They took care of getting Kiele's records and sent over the full notes for my pet insurance claim. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats and highly recommend Cascade Summit Animal Hospital for the following reasons: Amazing staff from the front desk to the vet techs to the veterinarians that go above and beyond for their clients. One staff member Larkyn made it her personal quest to get our pet insurance to reverse their decision after several denials and appeals saving us 1000s of dollars. They are also so so sweet with all of my animals every step of the way. The communication is excellent. You can text them and they will text you right back which saves so much time. Before any services are provided you receive an estimate so there are no surprises. The veterinarians always follow-up with you whether it is in the office or via email or the phone. The practice is well staffed: they have multiple vet techs and veterinarians so we can get an appointment in a timely fashion and they work well together, following up for each other if it is one vet's day off. Lastly they also have a holistic veterinarian in the practice so if you want to try acupuncture or Chinese herbs or other natural therapies that is an option. The staff is super friendly and Dr. Chattegrie saved my Romeo. He was in very bad shape and has a history of pulmonary hypertension. She read his large file before our appointment and when symptoms appeared during our appointment, she was able to diagnose the issue. After some natural antibiotics and Acupuncture, he became stable. We still see her to treat his heart/lung issues. Romeo's cardiologist says he is doing well and to keep doing what we are doing. I am forever thankful! read more

I took my dog and cat here for the first time last year for their annual checkup and vaccinations. I remember telling my husband that I didn't like the office and their recommendations as we drove away, but I decided to come back again this year due to proximity to my home and convenience. They are always pushing very expensive testing and treatments on us even though our pets are relatively healthy. They also gave me a quote for $120 for a particular procedure over the phone, but then handed us a quote for $600 once we got into the office. I feel that they are not transparent and are just looking to make as much money off of you as possible. I also think it's strange that they list "holistic services" on their website when all they ever push on us is different medications. I will be looking for a new vet in the future. read more

I truly appreciate Christine (owner). My vet near my home didn't have the time to see my vet. I shared this with Christine who is one of my customers. She without a blink of an eye suggested I bring in my dog. I thought that was so sweet, but I also know her place is very busy. Next day I brought Ozzie in at 8am (yuck, who likes getting up that early?) Her staff was SO friendly and concerned about the well-being of my dog. I felt very comfortable handing over my dog to strangers. I proceeded to go to work, and later in the day, I received a text explaining what they found out why my dog was drinking large amounts of water and peeing every. I made arrangements to pick him up and talk with Christine. Upon arrival I was greeted with a happy HELLO! Christine shared with me what's going on with Ozzie. She spoke to me so I can understand what was going on with Ozzie. Sometimes medical talk, goes over my head. She suggested ideas and medication. I can truly tell she is totally devoted to taking care of animals and their owners. I was so moved about talking with her I started to tear up. I took Ozzie home and gave him his meds. The following week I brought him back for a check up on his symptoms. His UTI is gone. I again picked up Ozzie and greeted with a friendly hello. I met more of the staff, all are friendly and engaging. I witnessed the staff staying late after closing because I client brought in there sick pup, and Christine and her staff were attentive to that clients pups needs. By Christine extended herself for my specific situation, she has a new client! My previous vet was 5 minutes from my home, this place is 20, but I truly feel I get the ultimate service at this vet. We followed Dr. Larson to Cascade Summit from his previous clinic because of how genuinely kind he is (it's a bit out of our way but we'll take the extra 15min to see him!). Our golden retriever, Henry, melts onto the floor for belly rubs every time we make a visit to the clinic. Dr. Larson is genuine and cares for his pawtients just as if they were his own. He is a great listener and wants to work with you on what would be best for your animals needs. All the staff that we have worked with at Cascade Summit love what they do and make going to the vet a simple and stress free visit. We came here for our 1st ever vet appointment with our first puppy. There were a few things that made me feel uncomfortable to come back again. First off, we filled out a form listing any concerns we might have etc prior to our appt and it wasn't addressed at all. We should have mentioned them anyways but since it was our 1st experience ever it was a little overwhelming. Why ask us to fill this out if it won't be looked at? Secondly, we were never asked if we wanted certain things done. We were told "oh you must have this done...." like if we didn't we were bad dog owners vibe. And then at the end of the exam we were just given the balance sheet kind of confused what all of it was we said okay to.... And third, they said they didn't have any partnership with trupanion (pet insurance) but they were pressing it very hard that we MUST get it for our own good and they had posters up. I'm not against pet insurance but I do believe it should be the pet owners choice and when you go to your vet, you shouldn't be swayed one way or the other. And she explicitly said they didn't have any connection with them and I find that very hard to believe. Overall it was a fairly bad experience. And we were left feeling like we knew nothing about the good and health of our puppy and in a state of overall fear. I think they know what they're doing but we wanted an experience that was more inclusive with our take as well and made us feel like we were doing a good job with this new experience and not that we are clueless and we should just listen to them and not question it. read more

My cat was really sick. This was the only vet that had availability so I scheduled an appointment the next day and they informed me there would be a "same day fee of $120." Even though it wasn't even on the same day. They couldn't find whats wrong. They did x-rays and there was nothing that came up. They were really nice to me but when my boyfriend picked my cat up they forgot about him and he sat in the lobby waiting and had to eventually remind them he was waiting for Groot. $700 later and my cat was still not eating and vomiting everything up. I paid them for practically nothing. They text me the next day asking how my cat was doing and I responded "no improvement" and they didn't reply. Fortunately, my main vet had a cancellation and got me in the next day where they found something under his tongue and he's alive and healthy thanks to Dr. Han at Banfeild Pet hospital. read more

Based on my experience with Banfield particularly, how the passing of our dog was handled, I decided that I would put a little more effort researching a vet for our new puppy. After just a little digging I realized how compromised chain vet hospitals are particularly when it comes to over vaccinating and upselling. I literally had a spreadsheet and I even paid a visit before we got our puppy. The staff answered all my questions and even offered me a short tour. I decided to go with Cascade Summit because of my visit, their informative website and because it is owner operated and locally owned. Our puppy had some digestions issues right off the bat and I relied on Dr Beswick to help get our little pup through that bug. Coming from a chain vet I was not used to: 1.) Seeing the same vet. Seemed like Banfield had a high turnover 2.) Getting a follow up phone call from Dr Beswick himself when she was ill and I receive a follow up phone calls after a wellness visit. 3.) A friendly but more importantly a knowledgeable front desk. 4.) Our puppy actually loves to visit her vet. I even found a pet sitter "Rosie & Gus" through Cascade Summit. Overall I'm happy with my choice and feel our puppy girl is in good hands. read more

I was walking in a park when a sweet cat came up to me. As I went to pet him, I saw that a large chunk had been taken out of his face. I was a large open wound. I couldn't just leave him to die in pain. So I called the nearest animal hospital to see where I should take him for help. The lady on the phone said if I took him in there they could look for his chip or I could put a hot compress on it. I explained again how he is not my cat but needed immediate help! She said they would know what to do. When I got this poor thing there she then said then said how would I be paying? At this point I'm in tears because I wouldn't have driven him all the way over if they couldn't help him. She didn't know what she was doing and should have said so in the first place. Luckily I called my Dad and he found this wonderful place to take care of him. They also said if he didn't have an owner they would transport him to a place that could help him find a home given he would live. He did have a home and they were so happy to have their family member back. These people DON'T care about pets!!! They only care about money. So disappointing in this animal hospital, if you could call it that. read more

Long review coming your way! So back in August 2019 my husband and I took our 8.5 year old golden, Takoda, and 10 week old golden, Thor, to our normal vet, that we had been seeing for about 2 years, for Thor's first appointment. It went horrible. They belittled me, gave my dog the wrong shot, and seemed to just want my money and tell me all the things I was doing wrong. I will state that I have had golden retrievers in my life since I was born and have raised them. I am not a new owner. So after that situation I was done and vowed to never go back. I reached out to my breeder and one of her friends suggested Cascade Summit. I loved the website and read every review on about five different sites. I was willing to give them a shot. We had a scheduled visit but our puppy was having horrible diarrhea so they took us same day and helped us out. We had an on call doc and she was great and helpful. From the moment we walked in you could tell everyone cared. We got a room right away. This is huge for me. My dogs do not do well watching other pets and I hate interacting with other owners so this was an A+ for me. The techs were absolutely amazing. The sweetest people and so knowledgeable. We were so happy. We came back in for our normal puppy appointment. I thought the first time was just me with rose colored glasses. Well it all happened again! So much respect, knowledge, and helpfulness. These techs really care. They even remembered Thor's name. So we met Dr. Ortner who was fantastic. We had another appointment in October for the next phase of puppy stuff and we brought in Takoda. She was fantastic with them both. Everyone gave us the same amount of care as the other visits. Dr. Ortner found things on Takoda we didn't know about and gave him help with them. One day I called because Thor's diarrhea wasn't getting better after the meds. They set us up with prescription food and did everything via email and text so I didn't have to drive in! This was soooooo helpful. Today (11/7/19) we came in for our last puppy appointment and a recheck of Takoda. I have been looking for a vet just like my childhood vet. Someone I trusted my life with. Someone who understood me. Someone who was very knowledgeable, calm, respectful, and helpful. Someone who isn't going to act like I'm taking up their time. Someone who will listen and ease my fears. So we were talking to the amazing vet tech Seasons (damn she's amazing and so sweet, I wish to have her every time). She listened to us and made me feel so comfortable and heard. I had asked about Dr. Larson because that was actually who was recommended to us the first time (and for some weird reason prefer a male vet). They switched the appointment around and had him come meet us and did the whole appointment! Well we fell in love if that's possible. Hands down one of the best vets I've ever met. And I'll be the first to say I am the pickiest dog moms on the planet. He made me feel heard. He was so calm and supportive. He shared my views and wants for my dogs. He never once made me feel stupid or uneducated. He made me feel like I was with my old favorite vet all over again. This was the vet I was meant to meet. He better never leave! I walked out of that appointment feeling like a weight was lifted. Again, I felt so respected and heard. I know now if I ever have an issue, I finally have someone to go to! I can rest easy now. Also, Dr. Larson is an Oregon State University grad and vet school grad so of course he has to be amazing. Go beavs! (Both my husband and I graduated from there so that's very important to us!) Dr Ortner is a horrible person. All she is concerned about is upselling products and unnecessary services. She could care less about your animal. Her only concern is how much money she can get out of you. She cannot keep staff or veterinarians because she is a beast to work for and simply not a nice person. She won't refer your pet to a specialist even if your pet needs it because she wants to get every cent out of you that she can instead of caring for the welfare of your pet. You'll never see the same vet for more than a month or two (with the exception of Chattigre) because they all quit - just like the vet techs. Skip this clinic and go somewhere else. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about CSAH! My kitties have been going there since 2008 and the physicians and staff are wonderful! How was your exam room experience? My cats have received great treatment here at CSAH. They truly care about the health of the animals that come in and always give me time to ask lots of questions. What are some of the reasons you keep returning to Cascade Summit for care? I lost my 16 year old kitty back in 2014 and now have a new little one who is now also a patient. I trust this office and that's why I'll always come back. What is your overall impression of our doctors and staff? Very knowledgeable and passionate about caring for animals. When my elderly kitty was sick and couldn't take the medication she needed for severe hip arthritis because it would've compromised her kidneys, Dr. Chattigre gave her acupuncture and it really helped Shelby so much. When it was time to let her leave this world, they were wonderful. It was such a difficult day for me but they were there every step of the way to take care of her and support me. I'll never forget that! How does your pet respond when coming in to visit us? Daisy is a rescue cat so she can be a little fearful at times but she responds well to the staff here. I've been coming to Cascade Summit since 2009 and have General Care, Dental Care, Surgical Care, Holistic Care, Nail trims, you name it, we've probably had it done! I love that the Vets and their team really care about my sweet boy. He's a medical mess but you wouldn't know it due to the tender loving care that he's received from them throughout the years. They keep him in good shape and going strong. I always know what I'm getting to, because they discuss things thoroughly with you and then ask you to sign the quote before they get started with care. So there are no surprises with the cost of things or with what they are going to be doing. They do this every single time. I just love how Dr. Beswick looks after Buddy as if it were his own dog. The entire staff is friendly, the facility is clean and modern, and the veterinarians are very knowledgeable and personable. Since we moved here I've been in with all three pets and each time we've had the pleasure of working with Season. We've been with Cascade Summit for 12 years, and we would never go anywhere else. When we first found Cascade Summit, we were looking for doctors and a practice into whose hands we would feel safe and confident putting our family members' lives. Cascade Summit has proven to be that, and so much more, time and time again. They've been our rock, our strength, and our support, through the passing of 6 family members and the tumultuous puppyhood of our 2 1/2 yr old German Shepherd, Paco, who, incidentally, absolutely loves going to the vet! But what we hadn't realized, when we found Cascade Summit, was that what we were also choosing a people who would become our family, and into whose hands we would be putting our hearts during some of the most heartbreaking moments of our lives. During a recent vacation, Olivia, one of the wonderful staff members at Cascade Summit, pet sat our beloved hamster, Delilah, for us. Halfway through our trip, Olivia called to tell us that Delilah, who had been recovering from an unknown illness, had taken a turn for the worse. It was well after Cascade Summit had closed for the day, and Delilah wasn't even a patient of theirs, as they specialize in dogs and cats. But Dr. Beswick offered to stay and see Delilah anyway. Because he and Olivia knew that Delilah was not "just" a hamster, but a very precious and beloved family member of ours. Dr. Beswick stayed three hours late, so that he and Olivia could take care of Delilah. And when he determined that Delilah was dying and in pain, he gently euthanized her while Olivia cradled her in her arms. Dr. Beswick and Olivia held our hearts in their hands that day, and gave us a priceless gift that we will always treasure - the comfort and solace of knowing that as our precious Hammy-Ham breathed her last, she was in the care of people we know and love, people who have known and loved us and all of our family members for the last 12 years, and not with a stranger at an emergency clinic. They are amazing!!! I was a new to the area and brought my two dogs in to see Dr. Beswick (I was referred, but you still never know what you're going to get). I absolutely love when vets get on the ground to the dog's level, especially when he had to deal with my 15.5 year old pup who was tired and probably stressed out. I was very happy with the staff, the cleanliness of the facility, and overall everything about Cascade Summit. Prices are about average to slightly above average, but they're so worth it. The coup de gras was when my senior dog got sick the week after his initial appointment and it continued on for about a month. They were great. They called me to check in on him, Dr. Beswick called me after his shift, even emailed me on the weekend. Everyone at Cascade Summit was so wonderful and patient with me and my endless questions and massive worrying. They listened to me, helped me make decisions (without pressuring me), and they were really there for me even though I was a very new client. In the end, I had to euthanize my old pup and used an in-home euthanasia service that they recommended (Compassionate Care - awesome service). I also received a sympathy card that the staff had signed. They didn't just sign their names, but actually wrote things to me. I didn't expect that as a new client and it was really touching. Dr. Beswick and the staff helped make a very difficult time, a little more bearable. And for that, I am forever grateful. I will travel far distances to bring my dog here. My "boys" have been seeing Dr. Cameron Larson for going on 8 years so when he moved to Cascade Summit we gladly followed. He along with the staff are compassionate and caring.
