The wood-fired pizza is always delicious, and the beer selection is fantastic. My go-to is the Hazy 636, while my husband never passes up a Helias. We love bringing our boys (they love the mocktails), grabbing a pizza and a couple of beers, playing cards, and just slowing down together. The atmosphere is what keeps us coming back. There's a beautiful indoor space with garage doors that open up when the weather is nice, plus plenty of outdoor seating surrounded by the scenic beauty of Defiance. We've visited the St. Charles and Wildwood locations too, and they're both great, but there's just something special about the views and peaceful setting at the Defiance location that makes it our favorite. Good News Brewing in Defiance was a fun stop after the St. Patrick's Day parade. It was very busy, but we were still able to find a table and order food without too much trouble. The setup is casual--you order food and drinks at the register and then receive a text when your food is ready for pickup. When we went to grab our order, part of it was missing because someone else had accidentally taken it. The staff handled it well and quickly remade the missing items, which we appreciated. We ordered pizza, chicken wings, and a pretzel with cheese. Everything was pretty good and hit the spot after being out in the cold. They do not consider themselves as a restaurant or bar but a brewery that serves great beer and sourdough, wood-fired pizzas. Good News Brewery was celebrating Octoberfest on a beautiful day with a live band (outdoors), and the brewery was packed downstairs, on the rooftop deck, and in the courtyard. The rooftop was our choice for seating, and we loved the birds eye view of everything going on. Good News Brewery is next door to Katy trail, and many people pop in for a coffee, latte, beer, beverage, or pizza after their bike ride or walk/run. They are a family - and dog friendly brewery. Picnic tables are in the courtyard area, rooftop seating, along with many tables downstairs in the main dining area. When we arrived, we weren't quite sure if they had table service, where to order, and if they delivered to the table. It was a perfect day, so they were crowded, but we worked our way around the long line. We did have to order at the counter, and you wait for your food. We only had to wait 25 minutes for ours. We just drank our beers and waited. They do not deliver to your table. When we left for the day, the wait time for a pizza was over an hour. I'm glad we arrived early. After finding a rooftop table, our guys went downstairs to order our drinks and food. We ordered 3 Octoberfest beers and 1 Hazelnut Coffee Stout beer. Good beers! We had two orders of the Garlic Cheese Bread and the wood fired Vampire Deathwish pizza. Oh my word, it was delicious. I understand why it's their number one seller. The four of us devoured the amazing pizza and garlic cheese bread. The dough was soft, covered with flavorful Vampire Deathwish sauce, and not overcooked. I do look forward to visiting again when we visit our family next. They host many events from weddings, baby showers, birthday parties, retirement parties, and conference events, or any reason to gather together. Keep it in mind for your next event. read more

Saturday Pedal The Cause had a practice ride starting at this brew pub. It's located right on Highway 94 and offers indoor and outdoor seating. After the ride event the restaurant provided pizza and beer for us. I sampled 2 pizzas, pepperoni was one and BBQ chicken was another. It was excellent and fresh from the kitchen. To wash it down I drank the American IPA. It was so good that I bought 4 cans for my son in law as a Father's Day gift. He found it quite good too. A great hangout and one of my families favorite places to stop after a day biking on the Katy Trail. During the summer it is the best spot due to the large open windows - the winter time they supply heaters and close it off. Great outdoor space for a big group! The rooftop is a great place to hang when warmer - umbrellas & a second bar is located up there on the crowded / warmer summer days. The food is solid - pizza, salad, pretzel options. My favorite pizza is the Buffalo chicken. The craft beer has rotating options with always something new to try. They also have ciders!! I had the Stage 2 apple cider. I was pleased it was not sticky sweet like most ciders but rather tasted like beer w hints of apple (think a slightly better Busch apple.) we were not crazy about beets being served in plastic cups but it was ok. Every time my wife and I go to visit St. Louis, I make arrangements to go drink craft beer with her cousin Dave. This visit was a fast-paced four-nighter that was already packed with plans. Since we were going to Dave's house to visit my wife's aunt, I figured that would be the best time for Dave and me to slip away. He gave me some suggestions of places, and I researched them while still in San Antonio. I picked Good News because it sounded good and, better yet, it was only six miles from Dave's house. My wife's brother and sister-in-law joined us for the visit to Rachel's aunt. We picked up lunch for the ladies on the way to the house. Then cousin Dave, my brother-in-law, and I headed over to Good News. It was a very short pretty drive through the country. When we pulled up, I saw that it was an open air place. I cringed at the thought and cursed my choice of venue. I didn't realize that the front walls were garage doors that opened up. St. Louis was experiencing a record-breaking unseasonable heatwave with temperatures in the upper 90s. Because of the two major rivers in the area, it feels like the hottest and most humid place in the world to me. But, we were pot-committed to stay at this place. I was hot, but comfortable after a few beers. We approached the bar to order. A very nice lady was there to help us. She told us that she was a volunteer helping out the place for the day. The other guys each ordered a beer, and I ordered a flight. That first round was foamy and half-glassed. She thought it was the heat, but Dave told us at the table that she was pouring them wrong. He didn't want to say anything, so when I went up for our second round, I was going to do it Texas style. I have a way of saying anything with a little extra Texas drawl that nobody takes offense to. Fortunately, someone else who works there figured it out for her. She wasn't pulling the handle open enough, and was causing the foaminess. Our second, third, and fourth rounds were very nice. They had 14 choices on the board. I drank 3 flights and one single to taste the 13 that I had never had. I must have drank one of their beers, Dirty Laundry, on another trip. I liked everything. When I switched to a full pour at the end, I went for their Hazelnut Coffee Milk Stout. It was one of my two favorites. It had a nice hazelnut taste that did not have that windexy chemical taste that so many nut-flavored beers seem to have. My other favorite was their Local 636 Hazy IPA. I am a sucker for New England IPAs, and this was a good one. We also ate lunch while we were there. We ordered one Good News House Salad for my brother-in-law for $6.50. He said it was great. They had it pre-made in a carton. All the ingredients were in it, but you poured them into the salad at the table, which made for a really fresh salad all around. We also ordered three pizzas: Chicken Bacon Ranch, Buffalo Chicken, and Meat. I only ate the Buffalo Chicken. It was very good. They got the sauce perfect. The dough was chewy and flavorful on its own. The guys both tried the other two pizzas and said they were good. When I went to pay, I saw that they make dog treats with by-products from brewing the beer. I added two of them to my tab, but they learned later that they were out and had to go back and give me the money back. I also had asked several questions about the place earlier that the server couldn't answer. While we were finishing our last beer, she came to the table and told me all the answers. I was touched to see that she cared enough to actually go find the answers when she could have just blown it off. I only have one bad thing to say. Two of their ceiling fans are broken. FIX THEM before some out-of-towner who's not used to the horrible St. Louis area humidity drops dead on you. Other than that, I loved the venue. The servers were all super nice and helpful (even the first one). All of the beers were well-crafted. The pizza was fantastic. All of those things gave me a very fun and special visit with Cousin Dave. I noticed that a trail is right there near the brewery. In fact, there is an RV park right behind it called the Beyond the Trail RV Park. If I ever tow my trailer up to the area again, I will stay there instead of parking it on Dave's front lawn. My current trailer is too big for that. He probably wouldn't let me anyway after the ruts my tiny trailer dug into his lawn last time. Oh, yeah... The beers here were $6.25 for 16 ounces. My flights of 4 beers were $9.00. Pizzas ranged between $11,00 and $13.00. Our total was only $121.50. With an added $32 tip, we got out of there for only $153 dollars. That's about the same as it would cost for the same amount of beers and pizzas at my favorite San Antonio brewery. read more

Somebody gave me a $75 gift card for Good News and told me I should go check this one out. Well, COVID hit, and definitely delayed me, BUT... I finally made it. I stayed at a Bed & Breakfast there in Defiance, so stopped in at Good News several times. The service was great each and every time. I had the Stage II Hard Apple Cider, a Vampire Deathwish Pizza, a Cold Brew Coffee, a Judgement Tree Vodka and Lemonade, and a small Veggie Bistro Box. Love how this place is right on the Katy Trail. I walked east one day, then bicycled to Augusta the next. Would definitely come back here. Want to camp in the RV park that's behind them and kayak the Missouri River! read more

We visited after hiking the nearby Lost Valley Trail. Just asked Google for "brewery's near me" and it came up. Did not know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. It is apparently just off of a popular biking trail. Has plenty of options for seating, including the tap room which was partially open air using overhead doors. Also has a large patio overlooking a beautiful field. Their IPA was very decent and my wife enjoyed her lager saying it was better than two other brewery's we've visited the day before in St. Louis. They also have wood fired pizza. We split the Vampire Killer (Garlic, Feta, Spinach). Enjoyable, but a bit small for $11. We hit this place on a beautiful but somewhat windy and slightly cool day while killing time between a wedding and a reception. It's a really neat place and they let us put a couple of the overhead doors down to keep the wind off of us. There was a band playing on the patio, which was an added plus!
