Haven't been to Good Thymes in 5 years or so. Met Lisa (Sunday evening 1/2 before closing). Most employees would not be too happy to serve or show signs of fatigue at the end of their shift! Not this sweet authentic REAL person. The food exactly the same with new owners. Lisa filled me in how they acquired the restaurant class acts the previous ownership! By the looks of it it's continuing business as USUAL! Me being a business owner as well as understanding how important it is to have productive and ACCURATE reviews! This restaurant is quite strange upon walking it it is like your average chain bakery restaurant with pies in the cases. The manager (possibly owner) was at the counter talking with an applicant. There was another girl trying to get tables set up for two other people that were waiting. Nobody acknowledges us for about 5 minutes. After the manager dealt with the applicant she took a phone call and walked away. Eventually she came back and sat us. When you walk into the restaurant you are in silk flower land. Over the arches hanging from the ceiling. It seems as though you are maybe entering a wedding event center. In between dining areas there are tiny disco balls hanging. Like I said strange. The waitress was really nice she answered all of my questions. Water and tea came in closer to a wine glass than a goblet. To start we ordered clam chowder soup. It was lacking flavor. It was thick and seemingly rich but it was missing something. The chicken Marsala was one of the 20 specials of the night. It was breaded chicken cutlets (2) over a bed of fettuccine and Marsala sauce. The chicken lacked and was probably frozen the sauce was tasty. I had chicken cordon bleu with mashed potatoes and Cole slaw. The Cole slaw was ok. It was slightly soupy and not as much crunch as I like. The mashed potatoes seemed like box and the gravy seemed like jarred. Neither one had any substantial flavor. The cutlets were bland. Overall, the waitress was good. Good Thymes was a wonderful, friendly neighborhood restaurant when Jimmy owned it. Then new owners took over. The food was still good, but overpriced, but we still went. However, when a rude customer abuses a long-time, dedicated caring employee with foul language and obscene gestures and is not supported by the owners, that is just WRONG! I and my family and friends will no longer go there and "support" this establishment! read more

We went for an early dinner right after work around 5. We were seated immediately. The tables were clean and it was very cozy inside. I ordered a sangria and the haddock/shrimp combo. Our waitress was very nice and super attentive as she asked us if we needed anything frequently in between checking on her other tables. Overall, the food was really good, the sangria was really good, and we had a nice time! Another great thing about this restaurant is the private parking lot in the back! It's very hard to find places in Lowell with actual parking lots, so this was very convenient. read more

Old School restaurant serving good hearty meals that are prone to New England-meatloaf/turkey/broiled haddock to name a few. The Home made desserts along with the above dishes we mentioned were very good and reasonable! Went there with my daughter to meet a friend of mine. It is a large place that is well laid out with plenty of space. They have a large bar at the very back. Our server was great. She was very attentive and got us food and drinks whenever we needed them. She was pleasant and knowledgeable about the food offered. Speaking about the food, it was very good. I had a baked seafood dish which included large baked stuffed shrimp, scallops and haddock. I got a properly prepared baked potato and some great carrots. Everything was prepared well. We splurged and had a baked brownie with chocolate sauce for dessert. They make all of their own desserts. You can certainly tell. Value was very good as well. Went for Lunch with Ethel & Martha. Nicely decorated & our server, Kerri could not have been nicer. PRO- The food & service were very good. I got a open turkey sandwich, which I love but never see much anymore. Ethel got the baked haddock & Martha got the fried haddock & fries. Servings were good sized, but not crazy. My husband wanted a turkey dinner so he googled where we could locally find one that we haven't tried before. Good Thymes in Lowell on Gorham street came up. I have heard of it but I've never been so instead of doing takeout we decided to go and eat there. PHENOMENAL! Our waiter Carlos was incredible and really made our experience a 10/10. The restaurant is super cozy and really makes you feel welcome. We started off with dinner rolls and butter (I couldn't wait so that's why only one is pictured) which were super soft and fresh. I had the baked haddock and scallop combo with mashed and coleslaw. The haddock was super white and perfectly cooked as well as the scallops. My husband got the turkey dinner w/ baked potato and corn. He said everything was perfect. The turkey was moist and delicious. He got a blue moon and I got a root beer to drink. My husband NEVER orders dessert but they roll out all of the desserts they have available on a three tier tray and show you each one, he went with the strawberry shortcake. We will be back a lot sooner than later. We also let the owner know of our amazing experience as first-timers. We let her know the food and Carlos really made us feel welcome and leave as he's regulars to the restaurant. read more

Ok, where to start? To be honest, this is our local place. They always have a great selection on their menu. Old school and staples like meatloaf and Shepards pie but plenty to choose from. I had a haddock sandwich after my tasty chowder and a small salad and my wife had the baked shrimp with mashed. Everything was delicious and tasty. I have to mention the homemade desserts. This is the only place I can find my grapenut or bread puddings! The pies and cakes are out of this world good with large portions. Our waitress was attentive and great as they all are. The mixed drinks from the bar are always good tasting thanks to Marcie and Kerri. Kate takes a lot of pride in how the place looks and its always decorative. More like Good Thymes gone Bad... Gosh, where to start? How about just stating the obvious? This place has seen better days. Better service. Better food. It is seriously in a decline, and it doesn't really seem like they care. Granted, we haven't physically been there since the pandemic (though we did support them through take out throughout COVID). Arrived this afternoon with my mom and kids to sit down and enjoy a nice meal. Surprise, there is now a 4% service fee for paying with a credit card - but no equivalent discount for paying cash. Hm... There were only four tables occupied when we arrived. While the manager seated us promptly, our server (whose name I'll leave out) was just plain horrible - to put it mildly. Why bother asking what we want if you can't remember it? Is it really that hard to remember two waters, a root beer and an apple juice? Looks like it is, because after asking no fewer than four times, she decided that she had to write it down. Mom asked for a cup of turkey rice soup (more on that later) and table bread. Not that it mattered, because once the server walked away it took her 15 minutes to bring the drinks - but not any bread or soup. Of course, she brought the people who got seated after us their drinks (and bread), but maybe she didn't see any reason to rush back to us since we got non alcoholic beverages? She asked for our food orders, then realized she couldn't remember anything (again) and made it a point that she had to write this all down because she wouldn't be able to keep track of it. Almost like a cheeseburger/fries, chicken tenders/fries, turkey dinner (with standard mashed/beets), and chicken croquettes (butternut squash/carrots) were a difficult order. Not like there are lots of other people there, either. But that's ok. Let's get some yummy food, going, right? We asked about the soup and the bread and were told they would be right out. Over 25 minutes later, the food arrives. Still no soup or bread. And when my mom asked for it the server seemed surprised we still wanted any, and then pointed out that she must have forgotten. Needless to say, this is not the level of service we recall experiencing here for years. But that's okay. Maybe the food will make up for it. "Maybe." My meal had corn instead of carrots. She offered to take it back; I declined and asked her to just bring me the carrots. There might be a charge she said - "no" there won't be, I pointed out, as she had clearly written it down and reviewed it with me twice when she put the order int, and I can't eat corn. "Ok" she says. What about my soup, my mom asks? "Oh, I forgot" she replies. "I'd really like my soup" mom points out. "But your meal is here" she replies. "Right, but she really wanted her soup, can you please just serve it for her?" I asked. "Um, ok" she says. Even though no one else has been seated, and others have left, so its not like she is attending to others, it take another 5 minutes before the soup and carrots arrive. Mom's out of water. Does she ask to refill it? Nope. Just drops off the food and rushes off. Mom barely had any soup, as she didn't care for the taste. I tried it and agreed. Oh well. She goes to dig into her meal. The mashed potatos are cold to the touch. The turkey is tough and dry. The stuffing is cold to the touch. What is going on? Does the server come by to check on us? Nope. Eventually, the manager stops by and asks how the meal was, while the server was hovering. I explained the issues with the food, while leaving out the service concerns (again, because the server was hovering). While the manager appeared embarrassed, there was a brief "I'm sorry it wasn't that great" and that was it, as she walked away. While I wasn't looking for any sort of freebie or anything like that, the apology seemed more canned than sincere. The bill came. I paid it along with the service fee. No tip. On the car ride home, the kids pointed out how they didn't enjoy their own food, but didn't want to say anything because of the issues grandma was having, and then talked about it was the worst service they've ever experienced. I agree with them. It was completely off. If they had been full, and the server were running around like crazy and the kitchen was crazy, I'd at least understand it a little better, but no. It was completely off. The service sucked. The food sucked. And it didn't seem like anyone there cared. We won't be back. Why bother? There are better choices, with better service and better food. Bummer though. The place used to have such a great food selection and awesome service. Blame the pandemic? Nah, that was years ago. Save yourself the trip. Save yourself the service fee. Save yourself the aggravation. Go elsewhere. This place is just way past its prime, and survives on what was a much better past. read more

Came here a few days ago for dinner when my girls, seated within 10mins, they got their beautiful floral decoration up, the atmosphere is very nice. We got our bread, it was a bit hard with small cold hard butter. We got seafood casseroles which was tasty, jumbo shrimps and scallops soaked in butter and ritz crackers. But the main thing is the dessert. Absolutely go back for the dessert. This was quite a surprise. It was an unexpected choice. I got the chicken and broccoli and it was VERY good. The chicken breast was still juicy and the broccoli was fresh and crunchy. What a nice, old-school, family restaurant in what appeared to be one of the nicer sections of Lowell. We had the Chicken, Brocolli & Ziti and the Croquettes. We came at the busiest time on a Saturday during Memorial Day Weekend and they worked hard at getting everyone seated ASAP! My girlfriend and I were both amazed at how it seemed like the manager/host/owner maybe...seemed to know everyone and worked tirelessly to ensure everyone was happy. We were seated in a very reasonable amount of time and liked the vibe of this place. Sure we were one of the younger couples but that didn't bother us, in fact it was nice to hear some of their convos...rather than younger people obsessed with their phones. -The food was all good or excellent. -The service was very good. -For what we had: apps, entrees, drinks, and dessert to go, I think the price was fair. Neither of us would hesitate to return! Glad to see you can still get a nice meal, in a nice place and not pay an arm and a leg. We just wanted to find a place to eat. The mailman suggested Good Themes. I had the haddock which was cooked perfectly. My cousin had the ribs and he said they were some of the best he has ever had. I took my adult son here for lunch today. We both thought the large sprays of artificial flowers hanging from the ceiling and in vases were colorful but tacky. This is definitely a meeting place for the grey-haired set (of which I am a member), so lunch was a quiet affair. I had the Croquettes, which only included one croquette, and my son ordered Fried Chicken. Each meal came with two sides. My (refillable) iced Tea was $3.99, and his beer was $6. Food was pleasant but uninspired. Lunch came to $47, tip not included. Service was quick and efficient. But as this was a poor choice price-wise, it's now off the list. read more

Lowell, MA is not the type of place you probably would go out of your way to eat lunch in. It's gritty, shitty and after dark even a bit dangerous. Parking is also an absolute bitch. You might know Lowell as the birthplace of Jack Kerouac, the city the movie 'The Fighter' was set in or a hugely important city during the industrial revolution once famous for producing textiles. China entered the picture and the once thriving city slowly began to decay into what it is now. Sadly, Lowell's story is the story of many once thriving manufacturing towns and cities now plagued by poverty and drug problems. Cobblestones restaurant is a fantastic place for upscale dining in the city but parking there is an absolute nightmare. I had a client meeting in Lowell and this place is well outside the city city ... so I picked here due to the stellar reviews. It did not disappoint. Know in advance that this place is a blue hair paradise ... 80% of its diners are elderly. That's usually the sign of a place that has good prices, consistent quality and value. A bonus is that the throngs of elderly diners also usually point the way to finding some long lost menu items, once popular in the 1940s and 1950s but have since dissapeared from American menus in favor of quinoa, kale salads and pho bowls. I'm talking about chicken croquettes, turkey a la king and deli sandwiches with real sliced meats vs. prepackaged cold cuts. This is the type of place where mashed potato and gravy is a standard side item, cole slaw comes with meat dishes and there is a giant case stacked high with freshly baked pies and desserts in the way you'd expect a diner from NJ to greet you. Sure, this place is right next to a cemetary so you'll be dining with black suit wearing mourners in addition to a geriatric crowd. This is not the type of spot you'll find folks doing business meetings, which is exactly why I chose it for a business meeting. The chicken croquettes are astounding. They vary by day of the week from turkey and salmon but luckily I came on a chicken day. It's finely minced chicken made into 2 patties and fried. Kind of like a crab cale but a bit more moist and will plase both hard and soft texture eaters. Served with perfectly done salty mashed potatoes with traditional brown diner-style gravy. The cole slaw was decent and my beverages were refilled before they were empty, another hallmark of an 'old people restaurant' as that age group is generally very demanding on waitstaff and don't have time to wait around to ask for refills given the clock ticking. The turkey sandwich is made with real carved turkey and not packaged thin sliced deli cold cuts. It comes with crisp french fries but other sides can be substituted. The fried clam plates looked amazing and the portions here are big enough that you'll leave full. The decor is interesting. Personally given the menu I would prefer wood paneling and comfy booths. What you actually find feels like a 1980's wedding and banquet hall. Pink and blue with white formica, lots of mirrors and large floral arrangements. Perhaps the decor reminiscent of an upscale nursing home makes the older crowd feel pretty at home. If you are looking for a not fancy spot which serves good tasting food at great value, you won't leave here disappointed. There is absolutely nothing trendy or modern about this place ... it's like the dish of hard candy your grandparents kept on the front table. Another plus is that it has plenty of rear parking in the back, it's right off the highway near a shopping plaza with a Target and a Marshalls and the staff is friendly. read more

Down sides: beyond frigid there last time I stopped in (and I like cold!) - could be an end of summer/not quite fall problem. Also, some of the veggies are canned, so I would ask about them in advance if it matters to you - generally the sides are pretty good, though. Good Thymes family style restaurant has really stepped up their game in the last few years. Not to say that Good Thymes wasn't always consistently good, they are really knocking it out of the park now. The restaurant used to be pretty busy but nothing like what I witnessed on the day I visited. On my most recent visit lunchtime on a weekday, there were people filing in by the second. This is a popular place for lunch as the secret is out! I used to go to GT when I was in the area when I was with family, as it is convenient to my yiayia's house. The food is always consistently good. Some favorites are their broiled and fried seafood, their turkey dinner, and their salads with or without meat. A restaurant favorite, their croquettes are wildly popular and are a fixture on the menu but they also have special versions periodically. There are usually specials of the day as well. The portions are a great size and I feel the value is good for the cost. There is also an array of food for every appetite. Good Thymes does not take reservations so plan accordingly during high volume times. There is seating in the waiting area which is nice and if you aren't able to get a seat there is ample standing room. The hostesses were nice, pleasant, and helpful as was a manager (I think) that came to check up on us after our group was seated. Our server, Stephanie, was excellent and very attentive. Being that it was a busy day, Kayla, another server stepped in before Stephanie could greet us. Kayla even took our drink orders and gave our appetizer order to Stephanie! Great service and teamwork and Kayla's efforts were much appreciated. When Stephanie arrived at our table she didn't miss a beat. I received two iced tea refills without asking and without the glasses being all the way full yet. For starters we had an appetizer trio sampler which you could modify how you wanted. Ours consisted of onion rings, fried mozzarella triangles, and potato skins. The appetizer came out with the contents hot and it was tasty and a good deal at $9.99. For my entree, I had the fish casserole and I modify it to not include breadcrumbs although they do a nice job with that. The haddock was fresh, cooked well, and tasty. I was looking forward to having their signature butternut squash side (fave) but they didn't have that on the particular day I went. I settled for steamed broccoli and their pleasantly sweet (perhaps honey glazed) carrots as my sides and they were delish! There are very tempting desserts that come around on a dessert tray. There are also pretty and delectable looking desserts and pies in cases off to the left when you want in. Peruse the options, you don't ingest calories by looking! Everything looked really tempting but as my company agreed, we were FULL. We decided to check this place out on Saturday night after reading such wonderful reviews on here. As soon as we walked through the door, the restaurant gave off such a homey feeling. The restaurant was decorated with holiday decorations and we were greeted with smiles from the staff. The friendly lady at the host stand led us to our table and shortly after we were greeted by our server, Stephanie. She was very attentive, informative, and had an overall great attitude. We ordered 2 large orders of prime rib from the specials menu which I highly recommend. It was cooked exactly how we ordered it, medium rare. For sides we got mashed with gravy and carrots which were both delicious. This is a great place to come if you're in the mood for comfort food and great service.
