This is my new favorite restaurant near Salem, NH and Andover, MA. Came here in the evening to grab a bite to eat. This place is packed even on a Thursday night! The vibe was out of this world - they had live music which was so nice, and besides a bar there is a community table where seating was available immediately. I loved the copper front door! The servers checked on me at least 3 times. Ordered the French onion soup, fish and chips and sangria. The French onion soup is one of the best I have tasted, 5 stars! Bread was absolutely delicious (only wish they had salted butter). The mocktail sangria was also amazing. Fish and chips wasn't too impressive I don't think I'll order it again - the tartar sauce was too thin in texture and I think there needed to be a little more salt in the batter? But the haddock was fresh and I slept peacefully after my meal. I have visited almost every other restaurant in the area including expensive ones in Tuscan village but this one was the best! read more

Copper Door in Salem is inconsistent but when they are on point they serve excellent food, but the visit always begins the same way: the waiting area by the hostess station is crowded and chaotic. The space is tight, and during busy times it feels like everyone is squeezed into one small corner. Once you get past that initial congestion, the experience improves quickly. The Sirloin Spring Rolls are a standout. The combination of shaved sirloin, provolone, bleu cheese, creole aioli, and crispy onion straw makes them rich, flavorful, and one of the best appetizers on the menu. The Rustic Tomato Basil Soup is delicious. The roasted tomato, sweet onion, cream, and basil create a warm, balanced bowl that is especially comforting. It can also be prepared vegetarian upon request, which is a nice touch. The Five Onion Gratinée remains one of my favorites. The caramelized onion, thyme, sherry, Swiss cheese, provolone, and brioche crouton come together beautifully. It is deeply savory and always satisfying. One of the newest additions, the Ravioli and Short Rib, is outstanding. The cheese ravioli with garlic, shallot, mushroom, asparagus, tomato, roasted garlic cream, parmesan, and crispy onion straw makes for a rich, memorable dish that is absolutely worth ordering. Despite the hectic arrival, Copper Door delivers a reliably SOMEWHAT enjoyable meal with dishes that keep you coming back. Once you are seated, the service is attentive and the food consistently shines IF it is hot when being served. This is the real IF. They now require a credit card to secure the reservation for $25, and when it's time to pay, the staff stands over you with the device. They really need to leave the device and step away for a few minutes so guests can complete payment comfortably. read more

Came here for dinner when we were in town for a family event. The restaurant is large enough to hold large groups which was good since we had 9 people. Our waiter was really nice. Appetizer and drinks were good. Meals came out and a couple of the steaks were overcooked. The restaurant made it right and then some. Very impressed with the customer service. Our dinner at The Copper Door was absolutely fantastic. We had a wonderful server who was incredibly attentive and made sure everything--from our drinks to appetizers to entrees--was perfect. I ordered the filet, and when it was brought out, she let me know that a small portion had been lost on the grill. I told her not to worry, but she still went above and beyond by bringing me a second steak. To my surprise, it was a full additional meal, complete with sides. When the second steak came out slightly undercooked, she immediately took it back and assured me the head chef would personally check it before returning it to the table. From management to the hosts to the servers, the entire staff is truly unmatched. This will absolutely be my go-to restaurant for every special occasion moving forward. read more

No reservations, so we waited about 25 minutes. Got a seat in a booth in the bar area. Our waitress was very pleasant. We were relaxed and not rushed at all. I had wine and he enjoyed a martini. We both liked the meatballs appetizer ( the meatballs are fried!) and pull apart bread. My salad was very good and just enough ( I brought some home), he enjoyed his steak. Service is a 10/10 The hosts are always friendly though they don't remember regulars well. Bar staff and management are 100% friendly and really make an awesome experience. Food is hit or miss. Mainly because descriptions are regularly misleading. Stuffed Halibut is not stuffed nor is the stuffed shrimp. The poke tuna is delicious though the rice it is served on is the most sorry excuse for rice one could imagine. Japanese people would start a war if they knew what rice was being served. Pearl Harbor in NH??? We deserve it based on this dish. I'll only order it one more time. The garlic mash.... okay.. whatever you say.... We do love this local spot. Staff is why we come. We made reservations at Copper Door for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. We were seated immediately when we arrived (a bit early). I love Copper Door. It is not a "cookie cutter" restaurant. You really feel like you are somewhere special. I love the chandeliers and the modern paintings. It has a really warm atmosphere. I had the amazing Bosc Pear Salad and my husband had the Blue Cheese Wedge Salad. I love the Pear salad. Crunchy pear, cheddar, arugula, and candied cashews in a yummy dressing! My husband loves the wedge...says it's almost a meal in itself. I had the Seafood Casserole, but asked for no crumbs and no cream sauce and had green beans instead of the mashed potatoes. I have had the Seafood Casserole both ways and like it much better without the crumbs and cream sauce. It was delicious. My husband always enjoys their Cedar Plank Salmon with Quinoa and Asparagus. For dessert he had the Gluten Free Chocolate Berry Cake and I had the Millionaire Cheesecake (to die for). All the food was top notch. For drinks i had the Mai Tai and my husband had a Bourbon Cherry Mule that he said was delicious. Our server Kristy could not have been nicer. She engaged with us about our anniversary and asked us questions about where we got married. When my husband told her he proposed to me in Paris, she thought that was an amazing story! Very nice water glasses that were filled right away. Our waitress was very helpful with the specials and took the extra time to explain items on the menu we were thinking about. Our food arrived quickly and was nice and hot. My wife had the Ruben and I had the CBLT, which is a BLT with a nice piece of juicy grilled chicken. My wife had a side of Truffle Fries that she thoroughly enjoyed. I had the side of House Fries. The Ruben was very stuffed and falling out. My wife enjoyed cleaning up with her fork. She said the flavor was good. My CBLT was good. The grilled chicken was flavorful and juicy. The bacon was thick and tasty. I would have liked another piece of tomato and lettuce but the tomatoes I had were really good. (That's why I wanted more) All in all, we'll be coming back up to this area again and we'll be back to the Copper Door for lunch for sure. read more

Been here a handful of times. The food never disappoints. This review is regarding the terrible service from a male bartender with my friend earlier this afternoon from 2-3:30ishPM. My friend and I are in healthcare and my friend was sharing a story about a person requiring a ventilator. Nothing graphic or talking about bodily fluids, etc. As she's sharing the bartender rudely buds into the conversation and policed the conversation, claiming someone complained about the conversation and we need to stop. Just completely shuts it down and does not ask for explanation. My friend and I were shocked to hear this and a customer next to us literally thanked us for our service and shared she didn't think there was anything wrong about what we said. He then adds that talking about a healthcare topic is the same as talking politics - you just don't do it (we all know that's not even remotely the same and that's not what "people say" what people say is don't talk about religion and politics. My friend apologized and said she didn't want to offend anyone but that was not the same as politics. It was so awkward we almost considered leaving. This bartender gave such poor service from the start. He took my friend's drink order when we just sat down and turned away from me before I could even order and was about to walk away and I basically hollered what I wanted because I didn't think I'd see him again. He knew we were together because he had asked for our IDs. He even stood in front of me as my drink was emptying and didn't offer to take my order. He wasn't even making someone a drink. Regardless of him having a bad day or not, it's extremely rude to shut people down like that without trying to understand the situation. It feels worse when a bystander customer literally says she didn't feel like there was anything wrong with the conversation. We even made friends with another party on the other side of us. They also shared they never heard our conversation and didn't find anything wrong. I even looked around the bar to see if anyone had been staring at us looking upset. The bar was so loud no one on the other side was even staring at us. On top of that, we witnessed some racist behavior from this establishment towards another party trying to sit at the bar near us and even towards me. I won't get into it for the sake of how long this review is, but that's disappointing to experience and overall infuriating. I found it interesting that there's other reviews about poor service and racist behavior from this establishment on other forms of media as well. Totally ruined the dining experience as everyone here is trying to respectfully have a good time with whoever they came with. There was a number of other negative things experienced as a customer and it was unsettling to see so many mishaps amongst other customers as well. read more

My girlfriend and I went in for dinner after some craziness with flight changes so we booked a bit later to be safe. The staff accommodated us quickly! Andy at the bar, Tyler our server and Todd were great!! The decor is amazing for a perfect romantic dinner. We both got the filet. It comes with port wine sauce. First time trying and dinner was ok. After seeing some reviews about gaps between courses or getting drinks, I have to say they were correct. We all started with a salads - wedge and apple cranberry those were good. Dinner my husband had NY strip and thought it would have been more tender or as he said work so hard to cut/eat it. He thought the mashed potatoes were ok but skimpy on the portion. My daughter had a filet mignon which she said was good. I had the cedar plank salmon and it was cooked perfect but I just felt the temp of my food was not that hot and asparagus seemed under cooked. Our waitress was pleasant but as I said would be gone for long periods of time. The vibe was good just wish the food was better especially for what you are paying. read more

This was a restaurant recommended to a family member of mine and we decided to give it a try last night. My party members were running late, but the host was able to put me on the waitlist as they were fully booked for the evening and we got sat within 10 minutes of waiting. Our waitress was friendly and asked if we were interested in any alcoholic beverages and provided us water options (tap/bottled - still or sparkling) and then asked if we wanted bread/butter which we said yes to. From there, we placed our order, but the waitress did not repeat back to us what we wanted which... I'll get to. We got our appetizers - fried brussels sprout ($13.75), fried buffalo cauliflower ($13.75), and a traditional Caesar salad ($9.75). The fried brussels sprout were okay, a bit burnt tasting but as to be expected with deep-frying them. The fried buffalo cauliflower was good, I liked the dip that came with it. The traditional Caesar salad was not traditional and they grill the lettuce, which made it sad and wilted. Our entree orders were 4 ribeyes (3 medium-rare, 1 medium-well) priced at $48.75 per plate and a prosciutto and ricotta pizza ($19). We waited a very long time in between our apps to receive our entrees. Our waitress was not present at any point during this time until the entrees were just about to arrive to let us know they're on their way. We received the entrees, but it seems that the waitress did not indicate we wanted 4 ribeye dishes and wrote down 3. She said she'd get it fired right away but we decided to just eat what we received instead. The ribeyes were not cooked to expected temperatures. They were so, so, so dry. The medium-well was cooked right, but the medium-rares were extremely dry and tough. The food on our plates were not hot and everything felt cold or medium-warm. The prosciutto on the pizza was baked on which in turn made the pizza salty. I don't think I'll be returning. This meal took about 2.5 hours long and we weren't going to wait another 30 min for another dry steak at the fault of the waitress not indicating the correct amount of dishes ordered. read more

Mrs M & I went with the Grilled Herb Shrimp Skewers over quinoa & a rice type mix. Ordered a delicious side of Brussel Sprouts as well. Both my shrimp & the Brussel Sprouts were SO good! I'd go back just for these two things & Mrs. M agreed with me. Ward had the salmon (what else is new) with a side of grilled asparagus & said it was very good as well. Mr. M got the chipotle haddock & enjoyed it, though he said it was "very spicy". THE BREAD!! I'd go back just for that as well. And they keep it coming! CON- Place is big & NOISY inside. ?? - When we told Beaver where we were going for dinner he blurted out, "that place is EXPENSIVE I heard". Yeah it is "a la carte" but with drinks & our dinners, the bill came to around $100 a couple. Which is pretty average these days I think. SO - Yes, check it out. After waiting 45 minutes after we've been told "there's only 2 tables ahead of you, shouldn't be long" we get seated. After awhile a waitress comes over to take our order, which we put in drinks, apps and the kids food. A food runner delivers the kids' food and our apps, and the waitress doesn't check in or refresh or drinks or anything. We'd like to order since our kids had their food, so I flagged her down and told her we'd like to order. She gives me a dirty look and says ok and then walks away. wtf was the dirty look for? 15 minutes later our kids are almost done with their food and she finally comes back around and asks if we're ready to order, and by this time our kids are basically done with their meals, and I know by the time our food actually comes it'll probably be another 30 minutes so we just ask for the bill. She wasn't apologetic or helpful whatsoever. Idk you go to a restaurant for the hospitality not to get treated with dirty looks and crappy service. Way better restaurants to go to, no clue why that place was so busy. The host staff was nice but I wish they were more upfront and realistic about the wait times. Apps were great, tuna, meatballs, and Portuguese fish stew with loads of fish. Bread was warm and soft, with salted slightly crisp exterior, very nice. We frequent this place and love it. Recently I sat near the kitchen and noticed the manager cleaning the edge of the plates that were going out as well as cleaning the edge of the sauce bins and counter using the same rag repeatedly. That's a lot of cross contamination and it really made me feel uncomfortable about ordering food there. Glad they want the meal presentations to look nice but please don't keep using the same dirty rag on everything, that's just gross! read more

I am happy to bring back a 5 star review to The Copper Door. After a bad experience earlier in the year, my party of four recently had an excellent all around dining experience. All four raved about their meals. Our 7PM reserved table was ready on arrival. We were promptly greeted by our server who brought forth an order of their famous warm monkey bread while we looked over the menu. Two in the group started with their wedge salad, both saying it was terrific, while two, including myself opted to start with their Five Onion Gratinee (French Onion) soup. I'll note this was a major disappointment for me on my last visit. This time they redeemed themselves as it was absolutely delicious with a flavorful broth loaded with sweet onions and the perfect amount of melted Swiss cheese over brioche. For entrees the group enjoyed their Ravioli & Short Rib (excellent), New York Strip (excellent), Tenderloin Kebobs (excellent), and I equally loved my ordered Bourbon Beef Bacon Tips. All came as exactly as ordered, temp wise and were delicious. Our server, I think Todd was his name, was awesome. He offered suggestions on perfect sides for the two Butcher Cut entrees, was professional, attentive, and sociable. Familiar with the phrase "like lipstick on a pig"? Great indoor and outdoor spaces, but the food is typical chain restaurant nonsense. Improved ambiance = higher charges for mediocre food I suppose. Chicken tacos were something I'd be embarrassed to serve guests at my house. The dish is incredibly poorly conceived with cold "meat", cold and stale tortillas, a giant handful of clearly bagged/not fresh cabbage on top and a drip of avocado dressing that was for some reason on the bottom. Basmati rice (?) mixed with a mish mash of beans and veggies on the side. The rice was at least bordering on lukewarm. Calamari was nicely fried but lacked any real flavor/salt in the dredge. Marinara sauce tasted bland/from a jar. Service was cordial but bewilderingly slow. Beer prices were decent. TLDR - save some money and go get better, warmed up food from the 99 or Not Your Average Joe's. read more
