Have always loved Great Harvest Bread. Been coming every summer for the last 15 years. This weekend i went in to get my favorite cinnamon bread. As soon as I got it, I went and sat at a table and I could tell the bread was not fresh. It was very hard. I immediately went back up and asked if the bread was made today? And she said, "no, She gave me day old bread." Which I did pay full price for. I asked if I could have a fresh loaf because the one they had given me was very hard. She said, "no, if I want fresh I have to ask for fresh." I couldn't believe I was told that., Then I talked to the manager. He said the same thing, "you have to ask if you want fresh bread" I honestly couldn't believe they told a customer that. Will I be back? "Yes", but very disappointed in the reply. And now I know to always ask for fresh bread to me that was very bad business. read more

We stopped in on our trip to Gand Haven. I haven't been to a Great Harvest for years. The cinnamon swirl bread is still amazing. We got a loaf for our breakfast tomorrow morning. All their breads and sandwiches are good. I also like the coffee. If you want to make sure you like it, they are always giving full bread slices out for samples. Yum! I hadn't planned on stopping here but I'm glad I did. The sign out front declaring Cinnamon roll called me in. I ordered a Cinnamon Roll and a cookie to go. However they offer a free slice of bread. So I got Cinnamon Chip loaf. I put butter and honey on it and sat down to eat it. It was simply Phenomenal. It was a large slice of bread, but I inhaled it. It was so soft and flavorful. It almost melted in your mouth. I ended up buying a loaf it was. Friendly service by happy people. The cinnamon roll and cookie ended up being Very Good, not as good as the bread though. Overall 5 stars. Would I return? Oh Heck Yes! read more

Was looking for a good bagel place, but since they didn't have any, we got 2 Cinnamon rolls, which were fine - large with a good amount of icing. The place looked very clean and we took a booth to talk, noticing it is an overly Christian business with signs and sayings on the walls - which is fine, but it was the day after Halloween and loud Christian Christmas music was playing. I finally asked the young man at the cash register to turn it down. I don't like the current trend of restaurants being so loud it's difficult to have a nice conversation without having to nearly shout at each other. Full disclosure: I'm a bread person. I believe bakeries should not be filled with fluffy sickly sweet pastries, but instead with all sorts of breads. Having said that: I was in heaven when we finally stopped in and picked up something from this bakery. I truly wish I had gone in here the first day we were in the area, instead of the last. But who knew it would be my own personal nirvana, from the non-descript exterior? This place publishes a monthly baking list. They vary what they bake on a day-of-the-week basis for that month. So, for example, cinnamon swirl might be made on Mon/Wed/Fri for month of August... Additionally, they publish their bake times each day on a chalk board inside the store - so that same bread, on Monday, may be scheduled to come out of the oven at 10:30... So - this tells you they view bread the same way I do - they love it! The day I went in, (about 3p) they were out of Cinnamon swirl :-( but they still had pizza roll and lots of other choices too. We bought the pizza roll and our family scarfed that down pretty quickly. It was fantastic. Makes me wish I lived in Grand Haven so we could go there every single day for fresh bread. Had we discovered this earlier, I think it might have been the go-to place to get a loaf of bread for a beach lunch... there are a few other stores close by to pick up a few other picnic fixin's, if you are paying attention. While on vacation I pointed out this place to my friend who had never been to one so we popped in and had a bread sample and then of course ended up buying a couple loaves of bread to bring home. Great bread and friendly staff! I live in Holland so it's a 30 min drive, but it's worth it to stock up on their bread. The honey whole wheat is delicious, and it's 100% whole wheat flour. I'm sorry they are currently only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, but we tend to go Friday or Saturday anyway. I love their granola too. read more

We stopped through following random west-side-of-the-state travels and we were in a hankering for a good little snack, and good little snack we found! Nestled into a cute downtown area of Grand Haven, which I have only been during the busy summer months, is the cozy gem of Great Harvest. We were just wanting a small snack of a sweet and a coffee and that small little amount of perfection was found. The staff was friendly and patient with us as we took our "sweet" time to decide what we wanted among a vast number of options. Finally we just selected coffee and a killer loaf of cinnamon swirl bread that was delicious right down to the very last bite. We enjoyed our coffee, although pretty standard, it matched well with the free sample (aka "normal" slice of bread I'd cut myself at home) of cinnamon bread that we topped with a generous helping of butter. I don't remember who exactly owns this, but I believe there is some kind of wealthy donor/fund that backs this Great Harvest. I say that not because it isn't a viable business, but because I think that must contribute to how awesome this place is. They're not afraid of losing business, so they are recklessly generous with their free slices. And it's awesome! I've only had their slices of heaven (ahem...bread), cookies and some of their little gourmet grocery food items that they stock along the side of the store. All of those are really, really good. Personally, I have to recommend the cinnamon swirl bread if you can get it. RIDICK. The folks working there (often high school age) are always very courteous and service-minded. Omg this place makes the BEST bread! We walked by and I bought a small snack to eat while walking around Grand Haven. They were offering samples of their cinnamon pecan swirl loaf so I took a piece. It was so good that I went back and bought to loaves! I froze one, once I got back to Chicago, to eat later and gobbled down the other loaf in less than a week. It's amazing. The bread is good. However I'm wondering how fresh it is. I made a special trip there on Thursday because it said on the website that Thursday is cinnamon swirl bread day and that they open at 8:00 am. Well I got there at 8:10 am and asked for 3 loafs. The girl looked at me like I was nuts and said that doesn't come out of the oven until 9:30. One would think that if Thursday is the day it would be ready when they open. This was our first time visiting Grand Haven. The shops are super cute and everyone was friendly, until we went to the Great Harvest bread company. We ordered cinnamon rolls and the girl at the counter brought us 3 un-iced rolls. I asked if we could have them with icing on them, and she looked at me like I was absolutely crazy, then asked what exactly I wanted again. She was very rude, and whispered to her coworker, then came back with 3 cinnamon rolls in a bag and they were cold and solid as a rock! It's a must for us when we're in GH. We've been enjoying their goodies for years. This little local Bakery Rocks! I was in Grand Haven having a nostalgic day, My grandparents had property and a boat on the Grand River when I was growing up. Took all sorts of pictures, and came across Great Harvest Bread Company, it's places like this that make small town America Great! Great Bread, I bought a loaf for my Grandmother along with some preserves and cookies, Grandma Loved them. The staff was very very friendly and helpful. A line began to form behind me so I had to cut it short, but what an awesome find. They even offered me a sliced of the most amazing cinnamon swirl bread for the road, Delicious!!! read more

I have one of these within 3 miles of my house in Denver, however, I never go there. For some reason when I am in Grand Haven I always go to this one. The "feel" is better. The sandwiches are delicious and I found out this time that you can get any of their breads for the sandwich for a small additional charge. I went one morning for a cinnamon roll for breakfast that ended up being my breakfast for the next 3 days because it was so big. This is some of the best bread I've ever had, the only thing I miss is a tough crust because these loaves maintain a softer, but still durable consistency throughout. The regular wheat bread is a definite hit with me and a solid standard for beachside sandwiches, but I like to reach out and try a different free and quite sizable sample whenever I stop in. Our family vacations in Grand Haven yearly and one place we visit daily is the Great Harvest Bread Company on Washington Street. They offer free samples of the breads that they feature daily and we stop by for a sample and cup of coffee. We always buy either a loaf of their delicious bread or one of their sandwiches. The people who work there are long-time employees and amazingly friendly. I come to Grand Haven to unwind in the winter when there is nothing to do but sit by the fire and read a book, or view the frozen Grand River and Lake Michigan shore. A year ago I arrived in January and was so disappointed to find they close for the month that I am making sure this year to arrive after January 31st. read more

My daughters told me about this fabulous bakery! I was blown away when our family visited it! The atmosphere and the aroma is great! The different kinds of breads are amazing! We love the cinnamon. For our Christmas party we ordered a platter with one of the their specialty breads, and it came with a container of delicious icing that you can put in the micro and drizzle over b-4 serving! It was the hit of the party. I will definitely get it again! And we love the free samples! I drive 30 minutes out of my way to have lunch here on the weekends! Its that good. The bread is fresh and so soft and goeey! My kids even love this place and always try a free sample of the chedder garlic bread before they order. We also always order the raisin bread to take home...and it usually vanishes within a day.
