We recently visited for lunch and it was just ok. It's clear they're still working out some of the kinks, but there's definitely potential here. Food (7/10): The standout items for us were the shrimp and the crunchy rolls, both of which were excellent (9/10). The shrimp was cooked perfectly and full of flavor, and the crunchy rolls were fresh, crispy, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The steak hibachi and hibachi rice were both decent, but lacked flavor (7/10). The noodles were probably the weakest item we tried (5/10). They lacked the flavor and texture we were expecting. Service (8/10): Service was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. The staff seemed eager to make sure guests had a good experience, which we appreciated. Ambiance (8/10): The ambiance was also nice. It was comfortable, inviting and a pleasant place to enjoy lunch. Overall, I'd give them another try--several months from now. I had been looking forward to trying Good Time Sushi & Hibachi for months while waiting for them to open, so I was really excited to finally visit. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We ordered a sushi roll to share as an appetizer along with hibachi dinners. The hibachi chef did a performance, which my dinner partner felt was a bit inappropriate for the table's demographic, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt since they're new and I'm sure that will improve over time. The hibachi food itself was as expected, but the soup was very bland, honestly more like hot water than soup. The biggest issue was the sushi. I can't even speak to the quality because we never received it. By the time the chef finished preparing food for our table, the appetizer still hadn't come out. After trying to get our server's attention multiple times, I finally asked about it. I was told it would be ready soon, but after waiting even longer, it became clear the order hadn't even been started. At that point, a manager came over, apologized, and asked if I still wanted it. I declined, as our meals were already finished. What was most frustrating is that it felt like the order may have been forgotten, and instead of clear communication upfront, we were left waiting and repeatedly checking. I understand this is a new restaurant and there will be growing pains, but better communication and attention to orders would go a long way. Be careful where you eat sushi at.... This place is really expensive! It was $75 before tip for 3 of us to eat lunch there. On top of that my daughter got horribly sick from the sushi she ordered. I ordered the chicken n shrimp hibachi which was $19 alone and took forever to come to the table. It was a surprisingly small portion. I'm used to hibachi being so much food you could split it with another person but this barely filled me up especially since the so called fried rice was inedible. It had a really strange taste and had zero green onions and one microscopic piece of carrot and another microscopic piece of egg and that's it, no lie! Wish I had taken a picture. It was honestly the saddest fried rice I have ever seen. And on top of that it was cold like it had been sitting around for a long time and they never heated it up. Anyways I know they just reopened and I really don't want to blow up their spot but dang they have to do better. Haven't been here in years. Decided to revisit because I was in the mood for a Rock n Roll, and I also tried their Metairie Roll. Overall the rolls were good. The Metairie Roll had more rice compared to the inside of the roll. The Rock n Roll seem to lack shrimp, when eating the roll I had a lot crunch of the batter. Their eel sauce is different from what I am use to, more lumpy and doesn't pour on smoothly, all in all tasty. In the past I use to get their Crazy Dog Roll, one of their big rolls, that I always enjoyed. I will return in the future to reconnect with that roll. I've been to this restaurant multiple times, by myself and with friends. Everybody describes it as a hole in the wall. Which is kinda true. The building doesn't look presentable and it is very easy to miss if you don't know where you are going. But you are in for a treat. Their food is very tasty, prices are affordable and service is pretty good too. They do have strange decorations on the walls, like horses or cows (in a sushi place?) . But who cares if the food is good, right? They offer take outs, which I haven't tried before but I'm planning on doing so during crazy busy work weeks. Parking is easy. I've ordered from their very reasonably priced lunch menu each time, and am happy with the value and the food. The restaurant is a small, but I've never had to wait for a table. When I was going to UNO, this place was my haunt on a regular basis because it is right down the street. It is on the small side, with a small parking lot. They do have a single restroom with a single toilet that is neat and clean. I usually get the good time roll, or the Tiger roll and a tuna roll or a salmon roll. The hibachi is very good as well. The food also holds up for leftovers the same day. Just don't let it sit too long. The wait staff is very friendly. I have seen all sorts of people come in to eat, or get carry out. They are really popular in the area. There is also not much of any other choice, but they really are friendly. The restaurant is neat and clean. I always like coming here. I have recently moved to Gentilly and have been trying to try out all the local spots! Good Time is a great place if you want basic, pedestrian sushi that hits the spot when you have a taste for it. My husband and I have been eating here, ordering the same thing about once a week. We order a Naruto roll (a rice less rolls wrapped in cucumber) and a few other staples. I called and ordered as usual - "Naruto roll, please" Woman on the line - "Snow crab Naruto. Ok, what else..." After getting home with the order, I had gotten a snowcrab roll - not a snowcrab naruto (no rice, wrapped in cucumber). You know that feeling when you make it home and the order is wrong? Waaaaah! I decided to call to see if I could get the order rectified. Expectation: "I am sorry, I must have misheard..Come back by and we'll have it ready" or something to that effect. Reality: The woman blamed me for not ordering correctly (see above, I had) and not correcting her when she read it back (she read it back correctly). Offered to have me come trade the roll in for an upcharge since the roll I actually ordered is more expensive. I was floored at this response. And I will not be back. There's someone present that prepare the sushi rolls and then there is a little area in the back where they actually make the more hibachi meals or cooked meals. Parking is also small.
