The lady who took our order was the sweetest, we enjoyed an appetizer of fresh macadamia nuts, cracking a few was fun! We ordered Pad Thai with chicken spicy, fried rice with pork, Loco Moco, pulled pork sandwich, veggie stir fry, pad Thai mild spicy... just in case we gobble down everything. five stars because they EARNED it! best thai on island for sure. service was polite, friendly and relatively quick! staff was awesome, extra thumbs up to you guys for verifying level of spice, i like it hot! had the tom yum with coconut milk and rice.. all of the veggies were soooo fresh and delicious, the only bummer is that we didn't order more. they had an outdoor picnic area that's covered if i remember right. i will definitely be back, thanks for the great experience:) read more

A bit disappointed. The spring rolls were good and the person taking our order was nice enough. However, it took close to an hour to get our two bowls of chicken coconut soup with only maybe 3 parties ahead of us. The area around is really riddled with bees so after spending 20 minutes dodging those we just decided to go back and sit in the car and wait. Food wasn't ready until 30 minutes after. Sadly taste really missed the mark and the Thai hot was really mild. Not worth the wait. Would suggest calling ahead read more

Blessed be the Thai that Grindz! This place is amazing! They have food for any kind of hunger. We've tried everything on the menu, and you really can't go wrong with anything. As others have stated, the spring rolls are amazing, and should come in ten packs lol. Dave and Nat are fantastic, and to have a place like this down south is such an amazing gift. We go here all the time, and since I've become a vegetarian, the Pad Thai, Spring Rolls, Summer Rolls, Pineapple Fried Rice, Cheese Fries, all the Curries, the Drunken Noodles, and the Green Papaya Salad are all my favorites. Whether you are coming and going from Volcano, or just want to stay close to HOVE, this place is a godsend. Highly recommend. read more

Where to start...food trucks are everywhere especially in Hawaii. Huge variety but not many have QUALITY, REASONABLE prices even IN our current crisis! These guys do it! Tried Thai Grindz for the first time this evening. I placed an order for $75.00 worth of food and gave a 20% tip. It was raining and the sweet Thai woman who took my order asked which vehicle was mine and said she would bring our food out. After waiting awhile and a bearded white man came to my window angrily waving his arms. I had no idea who this person was but when I cautiously opened my door he yelled "didn't you hear me calling??!!" In a very pissed off voice. When I realized this man must work at the food truck I jumped out of my vehicle and ran up to the window as quickly as I could. I explained I had been told to wait in my truck and I had not heard anyone calling at all. This man then yelled at the Thai woman for asking me to wait in my vehicle. Everyone could hear him yelling at her and she apologized profusely. I'm certain she was embarrassed by his rude behavior. The food was adequate considering it came from a food truck but I will never go there again. read more

On our way for a day of hiking to Konas Volcano National Park we see the truck perched on the side of the road along with a local flee market I guess you can call it? Stopped to stretch our legs and hopefully grab a snack. Well... weren't we pleasantly surprised! We see a Thai food truck!!! Yes please! We ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai Spring roll, egg rolls and Pad Thai... Did not disappoint! Locals love the place... they stop in, place their order on their way to run errands then come back.. locals love it, you know it's good... such a great pit stop before a full day of Volcano National Park. Saw this food Truck on our way from Volcano to Place of Refuge, I was hungry an although we initially passed it, I turned around and made our way back. Although it's called Thai Grindz, we actually didn't order any Thai (after a not so great Thai experience yesterday). My aunt and I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and Chili and Rice. The BBQ sauce was a little to sweet for my liking, although my aunt enjoyed it. The Chili was not homemade, from a can with some tasty additions. Someone who was walking away said the coconut soup was to die for, so that may be something I try next time through the area. read more

Excellent home made food specialties! Very good Thai food for every spice level but like it says, so much more! Loco Moco, grass fed burgers, chicken sandwich with cheese / bacon, frito chili pie, pulled pork sandwiches just to name a few. Very delicious and food prepared fresh to order by 2 very awesome people! Oh and the prices? Very reasonable. Once you try them, you'll be back every weekend! I've been a consistent customer of Thai Grindz for over a year. I eat there about once a week, and have tried all their veggie options. I've never been let down by Nat & Dave. Their food is always 'ono. I typically stick with the Thai food side of the menu, but you can't go wrong with the French fries. I've heard rave review of the burgers and sandwiches too. Now, let go to the Thai food. Nat cooks up a mean curry. I usually go for red curry with veggies or tofu. You can ask for vegan style, and she's great a getting the spicy level just right. I also enjoy the Pad Thai, which again is available vegan or vegetarian. Just tell them so they know. The spring rolls and summer rolls are a must. I get the spring rolls after long runs, and the summer rolls when I'm just cruising. Super yummy, and amazingly friendly. I'm so thankful that they offer up such wonderful food at an affordable price with fast friendly service here in OV. read more

Arrived and ordered food to go. It took 45 minutes to get out carry our order. They had a "mix up" she said, and I'm pretty sure they have our order to the people ahead of us. Thai food is always one of my favorite cuisines and the owner of this food truck is doing an amazing job! I ordered Tom Yum soup, which is a must on my menu whenever I have Thai food, and my husband ordered their signature dish-panang curry, both of them were extraordinarily good! We also ordered food for taking away for dinner! I have to say the Thai lady is the sweetest person I've met in my trip in Hawaii, I love her smile and considerate mind. Quick and delicious thai food. We can comfortably get a meal here (being mostly vegetarian) especially when we don't feel like cooking that day. Always tasty and satisfying. This food truck along the highway between Captain Cook and South Point was one of the highlights of my recent weekend on the Big Island. Grateful to find any eatery (we were hungry!), we pulled over and initially expected to get our food to-go. However, the friendly local vibe made it impossible to dart off with a bag of food. For us mainlanders, it was a treat to pick macadamia nuts off the ground and crack them ourselves on the picnic table. Another fun diversion: holding and feeding the owner's chameleons. So fun! The husband-wife owners were super-friendly and appeared to know all the other patrons stopping by. He even offered Otter Pops to the local kids. Really cool folks. The Thai food was the real deal. I was offered some peanut sauce with one of my dishes and it was totally different from anything I've ever had. Textured and accented with lemongrass...wow! We ended up hanging around for an hour, chilling and talking to regular customers. I think this truck is only up and running Fri-Sun. If I lived on the West Coast of HI, I'd be a regular. I came to Hawaii to celebrate my birthday! I love everything about big island! Especially food trucks I was driving back from green sand beach and saw this food truck , I decided to try the papaya salad! It was delicious and spicy!! They were flexible to make the customizations to the food we wanted when we ordered the fried rice , red curry, and pad Thai. The food was ok, I ordered chicken satay(3) pierces hardly any taste wrapped in Saran Wrap and then in tin foil. I've had way better at other places. Spring rolls(4) pieces burnt and small in size.
