They were about to close the young man didn't want to take our order, but the young lady stepped up and said sorry for that we still have time to take an order so she took over and did an awesome job, Nothing extra but a smile and apologized for our inconvenience since it was still 10 mini before closing shop.. aThe rest of the crew kept cleaning up and she took us to another window.The next time we went the guy got the order all wrong . We I hoped for the same team who served us a few days prior but nobody seemed to know how to make a delicious mixed fruit concrete, like we had there before. You can order one of the options they came up with or prepare your own, with many, many, dozens of options to choose from. Yes it is so good. They are frozen custard, not ice cream. It is good. But there is no indoor seating so you are outside in the heat and it will melt faster than you can eat it. And some of the picnic tables seem designed for very short people so it's hard for a normal height me (5-9 or 5-10) to sit in it. Get the mini. Any other size is way too big and will melt before you can eat it anyway. The mini is 10 oz. That's plenty. More than plenty. Why did I get 18 oz of ice cream? I can't possibly eat all that. Why? And I didn't. But oh well, it was good. The parking lot can be an absolute zoo since it's in between ChickFil-A and Zaxby's so you have a bunch of chicken people going to get their chicken in the drive thru and blocking the parking lot and generally being nuisances. My family and I eat frozen custard at Goodberry's in Durham at least one time per week. We love the custard, being able to sit outside at the tables with the umbrellas, the water fountain, the Japanese maple trees and the lights, it's just a fun time! This Goodberry's is an excellent location sandwiched between a Chic-Fil-A and Zaxbys restaurant. It was quite nice to get a chicken sandwich entree at Chic Fil A and walk two minutes to Goodberry's. I happen to think Chic Fil A has good milkshakes, which are quite thick enough to be ice cream. But Goodberry's definitely draws large crowds on hot days. I have only been to Goodberry's this one time, so I'm thinking there must be something special here. I got the Carolina Concrete in vanilla swirl with the flavor of the day, raspberry (there's a daily chart on the Goodberry's website), in regular size. After a bit of confusion which the cashier clarified, the Carolina Concrete comes with one free topping (of which there are many choices, and some are usually the luxe toppings at other ice cream shops), and anything else is extra $0.85. The raspberry was bright in flavor, and had a nice balance between sweet and tart like fresh raspberries have. I did not taste the vanilla swirl much, but I think that was fine for me. The brownie bits were a good size, but not chunky or small. The raspberry topping was mostly at the bottom--was I supposed to mix it? The texture between the Chic Fil A cookies and cream milkshake I got the other day and Goodberry's Carolina Concrete was a bit similar. Like a soft ice cream. Denser than Wendy's frosty. More whipped than a regular ice cream. I would say the size of Goodberry's regular Carolina Concrete is about the size of a large Wendy's frosty. There's a mini tier below and a larger size above the regular. I think it's a good size, considering the dense but whipped ice cream. Price was about $7 for the regular plus $0.85 for the extra second topping. Certainly still a luxury indulgence, but perhaps the bright flavors and single free topping (and a good topping at that) makes up for the cost. We came at night about 9pm, two hours from closing, and while a few people were ordering, it wasn't much. For us service was friendly and fast with two people at the cashier. I would come again to try the various other flavors. I do think maybe the ice cream is a tad overpriced, by like a dollar or so. But at least there is the larger than average size to make up for it. read more

Goodberry's is my answer if I had to choose one dessert spot in Durham. Their custard recipe has been perfected over the years so that's solid from the start, then they add in really generous amounts of toppings that make their dessert feel substantial but light at the same time. Their ice cream cake was just as dependable as their custards, staff helped me place the order pretty last minute and I was able to customize it exactly the way I wanted. The cake came out with a thick brownie base and a perfect message written on top, highly recommend. Check their website for their daily special flavors, but I always end up going with vanilla. Service here can be kind of slow... just take the time and hang out with whoever you came with. They're hand making your custard in there at their own pace! read more

Understandable, I worked at an ice cream store for a few years so I've been there. Making complicated orders are difficult, especially if you're understaffed and right about to close. But mind you, it's not 10:55, it's 10:20. There are at least 6 staff working. Why the rush? When we do get our orders they look terrible. Ice cream looks like it had been already eaten and half filled. A picture is worth a thousand words, so I'll let our pictures do just that. For the staff. When the store closes at 11, it DOES NOT mean you get off at 11. The role is customer service not being served by customers. Goodberry lives up to the name because it's Berry Berry Good custard. Indeed, I really like the custard here. It tastes creamy and delicious and is exactly what I want when I order custard. Unfortunately I had a bad experience the night before when I showed up a few minutes before closing and they refused to serve me and had already switched off their lights. In fact they switched off the lights as I pulled into the parking lot which really annoyed me - I'm sure if they knew I was a Yelp reviewer they wouldn't have done that - but that just makes it worse. However when I came back the service was nice and the portion was generous and the prices are good and most importantly, the creamy delicious custard is, well, creamy and delicious. read more

Goodberry's is one of my favorite stops for a frozen treat. Their vanilla custard, which you can mix a wide variety of toppings into, is perfectly sweet without being cloyingly so. I love the thick, creamy texture, and I enjoy seeing the custard being made. Personally, I find the mini to be a bit more than I can finish in one sitting, so I definitely think most people will be satisfied with this size (they also have a kid's size which is only four ounces, so half the size of a mini, but you can't mix toppings into it - you can just have them on top). I love all of the fruit toppings which have no syrup or sugar added to them; my husband is a sucker for the Reese's and brownie bits combo. If you want one of their signature flavors, the Better Butterscotch is amazing. Every employee I've encountered at this location has been friendly and efficient. Parking at this location is good and there are about 5 tables and 5 or 6 benches outside to sit at (there is no indoor seating area, and I think this may be true at all locations). Staff is always friendly. The line can get a bit long but it moves pretty fast. There are plenty of benches plus tables and chairs to sit while you enjoy your custard. There is a variety of flavors and different treats you can order, shakes, cones sundaes etc. The custard is creamy and rich. I had macadamia nuts added and there were a lot! It's Dairy Queen with less choices but more customization. Goodberry's is a bit confusing when you hear it about it. It's a frozen custard place and their best selling item is the "Carolina concrete". Seriously... their best selling item is has concrete in the name? It's also a frozen custard place which basically boils down to it's Ice Cream with eggs. It's very good ice cream (or custard), but they also have just one flavor, vanilla. Which becomes chocolate if they add chocolate syrup to it. So it's kind of like that Cookout model where vanilla is the base flavor for everything. The Carolina Concrete is the dairy queen equivalent of a Blizzard, but without the premade flavor choices. There's almost too much customization with the Carolina concretes. With Blizzards if you want the cookie do or mint chocolate chip blizzard you know exactly what you're getting. With the concretes you have to be very specific. VERY. It's a bit overwhelming for those new to Goodberry's, but also at it's core is a very simple process too. Just one not explained all to well at the ordering window. Their website is basic and doesn't help to clear things up either. After weeks of my wife hounding me to go to Goodberry's we went and here's the thing. It's fine. It's really no better or worse than Dairy Queen. It's a walk up location with fairly light outdoor seating. If it's the summer there will probably be a line but they move people in and out fairly quick. The custard itself is deceptively more filling than ice cream so take that into account when ordering. read more

I stopped at the store at 2325 Davis in Cary, NC, both Saturday AND Sunday this weekend. Both times, I ordered a butterscotch malted milk. At the time I placed this order on Saturday, I explained to the employee that I had "long covid" and was still very slow in recovering my senses of taste and smell for 2-1/2 years now. I asked if they could add more than the normal amount of butterscotch. I was VERY pleasantly surprised that the amount they added made the item actually taste VERY delicious to me. They repeated this on my Sunday order, and I was, again, very happy with it. The two employees on both of those days were Mike Judd and LeeCar Garner.
