    a bag of goodcents

Never underestimate the power of a darn good sub sandwich, when mid-day hunger hits punch it back with a marvelous medly of soft bread, cold cuts, crisp vegetables, and savory sauce...don't forget those crunchy chips! And when I have that undeniable craving for a sub I prefer to always try to support the local sub shop instead of a corporate cardboard chain. Goodscents is what I grew up on, I have fond memories of peddling my bike, hair still drippin wet with chlorine water or back weighed down with heavy schoolbooks, on a mission for a turkey sandwich, a giant soft chewy cookie and a bag of chips. These are the sensory memories attached to a Mr. Goodscents and nowadays I don't get to experience them all too often without having a Goodscents near me anymore but, the other day while driving in Mission I was overjoyed to fill my belly as well as my heart with a freshly assembled sub sandwich. It wax 3pm and my heart was hungry for a Penny Club, Goodscents delivered with a clean eating establishment, precisely cut, clean, vibrant veggies and a freindly staff who expertly made my sandwich with layers of freshly sliced roast beef, turkey, and ham. I went with the garlic pepper bread which was new to me and oh so yummy, way superior to a stinky Italian herb and cheese loaf from somewhere...less local. The special squirts of spicy mustard and spicy ranch made that sub especially saucy, just the way I like it and the crunch from the jalapeños and pickles made my taste buds jump for joy. All in all this sandwich experience at Goodscents was one that not only filled my belly but filled my soul with joy, thank you for existing as a Kansas City staple for years and years. No complaints, the Penny Club is a sure 100!

I love love LOVE this goodcents. They always give great service, and the food is awesome. A lot of places, when you order online, they don't do as good as they would if you went to order in person. That is not the case with this restaurant! Whether I order online, or in person, they give the same service and make the same quality of food. Today I ordered online and asked for extra extra extra pickles, and they gave me a BAG of pickles on top of the many pickles they put on the sandwich. They also left me a cute note on my bag! LOL! I love goodcents and it makes it 100x better that the staff is efficient and they really do a great job. Give them all raises! Love this location it's the best!

Better than subway! Came on my visit to Kansas and was skeptical since the name is weird but apparently the jingle is what made them! The bread is so soft! Although they cut through the whole bread not just half so things are spilling out as you pick it up to eat.

My oven-roasted chicken sandwich tasted great, with plenty of delicious chicken on fresh, scrumptious bread. The service was fast, friendly, and helpful, while the dining area was spacious, and clean. They also have punch cards and good email offers. What's not to like?

As luck would have it, I had to run an errand near the area and my decision was made. First off, the entrance isn't where you'd think it would be. The order window was closed and I noticed people going up to the deck to get in, so up I headed. The place was actually spacious and comfortable, it has a Caribbean vibe to it. After much consternation, I figured I'd make it tough on them and opted for the Reuben. As some somebody who has had many Reubens at the place where they were invented, Omaha's Blackstone Hotel, I can be a tough judge. This is definitely the best place to get one in KC, so I know that I'll be back for more. I even liked the bread that they used, it set it apart from other sammiches. And the service was great, so I'll be back.

Okay Modern Market, I see you…read more I was on the hunt for a healthy-ish spot for lunch (I mean, hello it is January), when I came upon Modern Market Eatery on Yelp. Upon doing some research I learned it's a scratch kitchen specializing in clean eats, and that it's a chain. A win for the health options, a ding for the chain, but not all chains are bad, an we are living in a time where there are some winners. So, I packed myself up and headed down the road to Prairie Village. It's still fairly new, and it has that squeaky clean feeling to it when you arrive. Inside it's counter service and you seat yourself (they will bring the food to you). It kind of reminded me of how Noodles and Company felt when they first became a thing way back in the early 2000s. I ordered a thai salad that came in at under 400 calories so I was honestly skeptical at how big or flavorful it would really be when it arrived, and holy cow was it good. The chicken was cold, but still held some flavor, the dressing was great, there were fresh veggies, pickled onions. It was one of the best 400 calorie meals I've had in a long time. My dad ordered the salmon curry and he also enjoyed his though I didn't try it so jury's out on my opinion! I left full and happy to have discovered this spot. I'll be back soon!

First of all it's a pretty typical grab and go/ order at the counter kind of lunch spot. Their menu is mostly sandwiches and salads. I ordered their fried egg/pimento cheese sandwich and it was honestly great. It didn't come with any sides, though I could have added some on if I wanted. IMO it didn't need it as the sandwich itself was a very good size. The dining room is moderately sized, and filled up by around noon. I noticed loads of folks coming in for to-go orders so I'm sure it's always busy around the lunch hour. The price point was about what you'd expect these days - with most things hovering just under the $20 threshold. Overall, I really enjoyed my lunch here and I'd go back!

These sandwiches aren't cheap and ordering online where the instructions are printed in front of their faces you wouldn't think it would be a difficult thing to do. But lo and behold the last 4 orders it's wrong every time and they are slow. When they do mess up there is no remorse just attitude. The order before this they ran out of white bread in the early afternoon. Since it was for my kid and he is picky he wouldn't eat anything else, I got the most attitude about requesting a refund instead it almost turned me off forever. But today I decided to give them another chance and try them again. Never again. Ordered 2 giant subs and just requested them plain. Somehow that was too much but after coming back to the store and informing them, it was an inconvenience to request the sandwiches made correctly. Was I pushed to the front of the online orders? Nope. So the entire point of ordering online was defeated because I ended up waiting over an hour between the 2 times having to go that I could and should have gone somewhere else. Once I got my food, it was wrapped so poorly that half of the turkey sandwich I ordered was at the bottom of the bag. Going to go somewhere the customers are actually appreciated

Here, the strict, timeless geometry of the Left Bank softens into a warm, sun-lit casual elegance, a neighborhood sanctuary where the hum of local politics replaces the brooding silence of the philosopher's corner. It is a space where the Democratic social scene is always in full, effervescent effect, a kinetic theater of ideas where local strategists, organizers, and policy wonks gather over marble tables to debate the future of the state while tearing apart freshly baked croissants. The air thickens not with existential dread, but with the electric, hopeful prose of a collective striving for progress, making it the definitive salon of the modern suburban landscape. The beauty of French Market lies in this seamless blending of civic passion and culinary delight. Every corner of the room feels curated with a benevolent affection, an atmosphere fueled entirely by a staff that can only be described as thoroughly fabulous. From the front counter to the busy kitchen, the team moves with a synchronized, smiling grace that makes every patron feel like the guest of honor at an intimate neighborhood gathering. They navigate the bustling room with a genuine warmth, pouring drinks and delivering plates with an infectious energy that elevates the casual setting into something truly extraordinary. It is a rare, beautiful thing to find a restaurant where the hospitality feels less like a service industry transaction and more like a generous act of civic kinship. On the plate, the market routinely touches the sublime, offering dishes that sing with a clear, poetic precision. The crab cakes are a revelation of coastal longing, packed with sweet, tender lump meat and boasting a delicate, golden sear that yields effortlessly to the fork. Nearby, the croque madame arrives as an opulent, dripping monument to breakfast-time indulgence, a decadent tower of savory ham and melted Gruyère crowned with a perfectly runny egg that coats each bite in a rich, golden velvet. To wash down these triumphs, one must order the French press coffee, a dark, aromatic brew that arrives in a slow, plunging ritual, delivering a bold, robust punch that commands your full attention and jump-starts any morning debate. While the kitchen operates at a remarkably high standard across the board, a discerning diner must exercise a small measure of tactical restraint when navigating the entrees. For all the brilliance on display, it is best to gently bypass the steak frites for the time being, steering clear of the dish until the kitchen source a more premium quality of beef to match their otherwise flawless standards. But this minor detour is easily forgotten the moment you glance toward the pastry case. The desserts here are an absolute, transcendent poetry of sugar and butter, offering delicate tarts and airy confections that are nothing short of sublime. French Market remains a triumphant, essential neighborhood jewel, where the food is exceptional, the people are magnificent, and the conversation never stops flowing.
