It has been at least a decade since I had been in a Planet Sub location and about 25 years since I was a regular customer and by regular I mean 4-5 times a week for over 2 years. In the early 90's I ran a record store next to the original Planet Sub (Yellow Sub) on the campus at KU. The employees there and I had a little deal worked out, they got unlimited CD's to play in the store and I got a small sub for lunch. I have made my way through that menu several times over, but always came back to the Beefeater, The Green Turkey and the Tuna Bacon Melt. This weekend I ventured in to the South Plaza location for the first time. The space is huge and nothing like the small cramped original Lawrence location that has since been torn down. The memories came flooding back as soon as the lady traded me my 7 of clubs playing card for a 12" Beefeater wrapped in foil. The unmistakable smell of the fresh baked bread and the overwhelming odor of bacon took me back to my happy place as soon as I peeled back the wrap. The warm roast beef and bacon and the melty cream cheese with cool tomatoes, lettuce and mayo on hot crispy bread is just a masterpiece that other sub shops can only dream of replicating. 5 stars for standing the test of time!

    A whole "Super Hero" sub

Since moving to Kansas City from Western NY, I've been looking for a good local sub shop. After looking on Yelp for subs in Kansas City, I came across Planet Sub. Even though they've grown into a chain, this place originated in Kansas so I felt I had to give them a chance. I've been craving a good, foot-long sub, NOT a sandwich and on that front, Planet Sub delivered! I grabbed a "whole" Super Hero sub (similar to an Italian BMT from Subway) and I will say, it tasted excellent! The flavors for the sub were spot on and it was big enough where I didn't need any sides to go with it. The bread was nice and soft and I liked the fact that they toasted it too. I wish the sub was a bit thicker at the end of the day though. As for this specific location, it was nice and clean on the inside but I was surprised at how empty it was at 6PM on a Saturday! I was able to walk right up to the counter and place my order without any issues. It took only a few minutes for my sandwich to be made and they brought it to me, all bagged up. Overall, I was very pleased with the sub and would love to try a few others on their menu at some point but I don't feel a real urgency to return.

Menu hasn't changed in ten years:)

I have been going to Planet Sub since I was but a teenager. Although I didn't go to this location, I was absolutely in love with the Yellow Sub in Lawrence, on the KU campus! It had been several years since I had been back to this Planet Sub location on Main Street; and, even though a bit reluctant to go at first, I did so on the recommendation of a fellow Yelper and was pleasantly surprised. Planet Sub was just as I remembered it, which is a fairly good thing. The sandwiches here won't blow your mind away, but they are solid sammies on tasty fresh baked bread at a reasonable price point. They still had my two favorite sandwiches: the Creamy Club and Dagwood's Dream. The Creamy Club (like many of their other sandwiches has a good amount of cream cheese on it) plus turkey, bacon, sprouts, and some other fixin's. The Dagwood has loads of meat on it like pastrami, ham, & roast beef. Both of these sandwiches are a good filling meal and I imagine that the rest of their sandwiches are pretty good as well; they do have a huge selection! Parking here can be crazy at lunch, just so that you know ahead of time. Also, I know that they offer delivery service, but I have never taken advantage of that so I cannot attest to the quality of the service. Overall, I'll keep returning to pSub for their yummy and fairly healthy subs! Oh and a nice touch: they include the calorie counts of all the sandwiches on the menu board if you are watching your weight or counting calories.

It was more of a grinder than a sub. The bread to filling ratio was way off. If I go back, I would try something different.

Taste 5/5 Price 5/5 (1/2 off for sandwich week original $14.99) "The Wise Guy" An Italian delight of epic proportions, this sandwich lived up to expectations of being a stellar spectacle between two slices of bread. If your mouth waters at the prospect of Italian meats being inside of it then this is the guy for you. I definitely would pay full price for this bad boy! Who knew Kelly's had a kick butt sandwich shop slanging mad good meals in there?! Not I...I only thought they served soggy 'za. Now I'll definitely be back to the walk up window to order this packed Italian stallion, it was stuffed with mortedella, spicy capicola, prosciutto, and pepperoni and salami and they don't skimp on the meat piles here. Also, the spicy vinegar zing from the pickled Giardiniera was so satisfying with the oily Italian sub dressing. I wouldn't change anything about this sandwich especially with your choice of Guys chips on the side- kettle cooked or onion and chive are the only choices appropriate...add those chips to the sandwich and you've just blasted off into a texture territory that's unparalleled. Can you tell I'm still thinking of this Wise Guy a few weeks later? He really made an impression, eh?

At any rate, I hadn't been to Kelly's since Joe's closed down and my memories of Joe's were that it was OK, but not really much to write home about. I asked some of my pals what their thoughts were on Guy's pizza and next thing I knew I was in line for a slice. Honestly, it might not be the very best pizza in town but it was really pretty tasty. I enjoyed every last bite of my slice, and when my husband texted to see if I could snag dinner for him on the way home, I just went ahead and ordered a whole 'za for the family. I will say, for some reason the slice tasted better to me than the slice I had from the whole pie I bought, but overall, I'd for sure eat here again. It's convenient, and worlds better than what was here previously.

What makes this place stand out is the concept. You can walk up to the butcher case, pick out your own steak, and have them grill it for you. It's a fun experience that feels different from a traditional steakhouse. If you'd rather order from the menu, there are also plenty of meat and seafood options available. We shared a bone-in ribeye that was absolutely delicious. We started with the Sweet Potato Hummus, which my wife especially loved. The real surprise of the night was the Hot Honey & Goat Cheese Brussels Sprouts. Those were outstanding and easily one of the best sides we've had in a long time. The roasted potatoes, on the other hand, were just okay. Another thing worth mentioning is the deli-style refrigerated cases in the back of the shop. They're packed with prepared meals, sides, meats, and other items that looked genuinely tempting for taking home later. Overall, a very enjoyable first experience and a creative addition to the Kansas City dining scene

Let's start with the service--Billy, Grant, and Parker were all incredible. Friendly, attentive, and just chill in the best way. You can tell they care about what they're doing and treat customers like family. Scott and Vicky the owners were warm and welcoming. They welcomed feedback in the best way... it definitely felt like a locally owned neighborhood market. Now, let's talk food: Meatballs alla Vodka? Baaaaby. Rich, savory, cheesy, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Hot Honey Brussels were crispy, sweet, spicy, and downright addictive. Parmesan & Rosemary Fries? Flavorful with a perfect crisp. That rosemary hit me in my soul. Fritz Müller Perlwein Rosé was served at the bar at grocery store pricing. And yes, I was feelin' bougie for less. Then I peeked around and realized this place is ALSO a full-on boutique market. Think wine shop, butcher counter, charcuterie essentials, and every sauce or seasoning your inner foodie could dream of. The vibe is elevated but still approachable--perfect for a wine night run or a laid-back date night. Truly a one-stop shop for snacks and sustenance. Support local, and treat yourself. I'll be back soon, probably with a tote bag and a full appetite. Definitely filling my DEAN AND DELUCA void!!!

I attempted to order online but they shut down online ordering fairly early-it was well before closing, so I headed there to order. The individual who assisted me was friendly and the restaurant seemed very clean. They have cute decor. I did take my order to go because it was getting close to close and I didn't want to be that person. I ordered a ton of things. Eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach but I don't mind leftovers. I started with a couple of appetizers. The first being the sugarcane shrimp patties: Shrimp patties delicately wrapped around sticks of sugarcane, presenting a harmonious blend of savory seafood notes. They come three to an order and were interesting. I liked the texture of the shrimp patties and they did have a good flavor. Would I get it again? Maybe. I also tried the fried lobster balls. Those come 5 to an order and were exactly what they said-fried balls of lobster. They were also good but they have several other appetizers so I would probably opt to try a few more things out. They have Korean corn dogs and because I've never had one, I decided that needed to change. I ordered the potato half and half-half dog, half cheese. It was huge. Like way bigger than I thought. I liked the potato outside, it was crispy and tasted like a giant French fry. Lots of cheese and the dog was a dog. I don't regret getting it but I would have to be in the mood to get one again. It was fun though. My favorite item was the grilled pork croissant: butter mayo, house sauce, jalapeño, cucumber, and cilantro with pickled radish and carrot. It was so good and what I will definitely return for. The pork had great flavor, the veg was a crunchy, refreshing flavor and the croissant was so flaky and delicious. My only complaint is that it got a little soggy on the way home but I popped it in the oven and voila! First world problem solved. Highly recommend. Finally, I had to get a boba tea. I went with the mango milk tea base and added mango popping boba. It was refreshing and delicious. I like that you can really customize your drink. I had a sip of a Thai tea with brown sugar boba and that will be what I get in the future. So good. I will definitely return and I highly recommend that you try it out.

The staff is always respectful and pleasant whenever I visit. I usually bring different friends here to check it out for the first time, and they always enjoy the food and ambiance. The prices are fair depending on what you order. I like trying something new each visit, but a must-try is definitely their Banh Mi - I've had the Special Combo and the Grilled Pork. Also, don't sleep on the Combo Croissant Sandwich! Everything is fresh, though I highly recommend eating there; if you take it home, the bread can get soggy. For drinks, their boba is great. My favorites are the Lychee Strawberry Fruit Tea and the Peach Green Tea. On my most recent visit, I tried the R1: Grilled Pork Chop & Broken Rice (Cơm tấm sườn bì chả). It was a huge portion with broken rice, pork chop, shredded pork skin, meatloaf, and fresh veggies, served with house fish sauce and a side soup. Very delicious! I also tried the Firecracker Shrimp appetizer. It was more like a standard shrimp tempura; I was expecting shrimp wrapped in thin spring roll wrappers, so it was just 'okay' for me. One area for improvement is the cleanliness; the tables and bathroom could use more work and attention. Also, there were restock boxes in the front that were blocking the two big lounge seats. Overall, Paris Banh Mi is a solid place to eat and hang out, with good food for a decent price!

They are perfectly balanced in their chewiness, fluffiness, and flavor. I'm partial to the everything bagel with a big of plain schmear (although they're good enough to eat on their own without schmear.)
