Been going to Planet Subs for as long as I can remember and they still hit pretty often! I went on a busy night recently and they've really pared things down. It's almost strictly carryout and best to order ahead of time online. Went with the turkey club (always) and it was made well with tons of turkey on it. Could've used some more mayo but it was all good. The prices are around $15 with tax and tip but what isn't these days? That seems to be the new going rate for sandwiches. My family doesn't really like the subs here so this is a quick staple when I'm on my own for dinner or out running around! read more

It has been at least a decade since I had been in a Planet Sub location and about 25 years since I was a regular customer and by regular I mean 4-5 times a week for over 2 years. In the early 90's I ran a record store next to the original Planet Sub (Yellow Sub) on the campus at KU. The employees there and I had a little deal worked out, they got unlimited CD's to play in the store and I got a small sub for lunch. I have made my way through that menu several times over, but always came back to the Beefeater, The Green Turkey and the Tuna Bacon Melt. This weekend I ventured in to the South Plaza location for the first time. The space is huge and nothing like the small cramped original Lawrence location that has since been torn down. The memories came flooding back as soon as the lady traded me my 7 of clubs playing card for a 12" Beefeater wrapped in foil. The unmistakable smell of the fresh baked bread and the overwhelming odor of bacon took me back to my happy place as soon as I peeled back the wrap. The warm roast beef and bacon and the melty cream cheese with cool tomatoes, lettuce and mayo on hot crispy bread is just a masterpiece that other sub shops can only dream of replicating. 5 stars for standing the test of time! read more

Since moving to Kansas City from Western NY, I've been looking for a good local sub shop. After looking on Yelp for subs in Kansas City, I came across Planet Sub. Even though they've grown into a chain, this place originated in Kansas so I felt I had to give them a chance. I've been craving a good, foot-long sub, NOT a sandwich and on that front, Planet Sub delivered! I grabbed a "whole" Super Hero sub (similar to an Italian BMT from Subway) and I will say, it tasted excellent! The flavors for the sub were spot on and it was big enough where I didn't need any sides to go with it. The bread was nice and soft and I liked the fact that they toasted it too. I wish the sub was a bit thicker at the end of the day though. As for this specific location, it was nice and clean on the inside but I was surprised at how empty it was at 6PM on a Saturday! I was able to walk right up to the counter and place my order without any issues. It took only a few minutes for my sandwich to be made and they brought it to me, all bagged up. I've been coming here since they remodel this place. It was so close to my workplace back in the days and just recently coming back bought back some memories. Lots of seatings and tables for everyone. Ordering food is very easy and food comes out fairly quick too. The toasted bread and their foil wrap around it.... Just feels so nogalistic to me. I have been going to Planet Sub since I was but a teenager. Although I didn't go to this location, I was absolutely in love with the Yellow Sub in Lawrence, on the KU campus! It had been several years since I had been back to this Planet Sub location on Main Street; and, even though a bit reluctant to go at first, I did so on the recommendation of a fellow Yelper and was pleasantly surprised. Planet Sub was just as I remembered it, which is a fairly good thing. The sandwiches here won't blow your mind away, but they are solid sammies on tasty fresh baked bread at a reasonable price point. They still had my two favorite sandwiches: the Creamy Club and Dagwood's Dream. The Creamy Club (like many of their other sandwiches has a good amount of cream cheese on it) plus turkey, bacon, sprouts, and some other fixin's. The Dagwood has loads of meat on it like pastrami, ham, & roast beef. Both of these sandwiches are a good filling meal and I imagine that the rest of their sandwiches are pretty good as well; they do have a huge selection! Parking here can be crazy at lunch, just so that you know ahead of time. Also, I know that they offer delivery service, but I have never taken advantage of that so I cannot attest to the quality of the service. Overall, I'll keep returning to pSub for their yummy and fairly healthy subs! I will go out of my way to eat at planet sub because the ingredients are clearly high quality and the service is fantastic. The bread is cooked fresh every day and the deli meets are cut thick from good pieces of meat. I've had everything on the menu and highly recommend their flagship sandwich, the Planet Sub. There is the surprise it's a 4 star spot, but for what for its convenience factor It's a regular. Being forgetful I love I can order and pay from the app. The Dagwood with ham, roast beef and pastrami it's easily my favorite. I like the beefeater with its use of cream cheese makes it a delicious option to the basics. The bread is fresh and usually has a nice crisp to it, not overly thick but good for most of the subs, kinda annoying for hosting the meatball but I don't usually get that here in any case. Boy was a fan of this place before going Gluten Free, and I was extremely excited to see that they have fresh Baked Gluten Free bread! So I went in today with my free Birthday Sub deal, and to find out I was only charged $1 upcharge for the GF Bun, I was over the moon. Now I'm not a vegetarian but boy oh boy do I crave their Pesto Bello. Tempeh Parmesan, and their Veggie Grinder subs. To me they are better than the Turkey subs. Planet Sub is my favorite sandwich place in town, for a number of reasons: 1) the email deals I get (they even give you a free 6-inch on your birthday... Yello Sub was a staple in my diet when I lived in Lawrence going to KU. During those glorious, glorious years, it really helped that the OG location was right next door to the Crossing. On warm spring and summer afternoons it was the perfect slightly-buzzed lunch. Moving on and growing up...I'm so friggin excited I work a five minute walk from Planet Sub downtown. The staff at this location is crazy nice. One of my my most favorite recent discoveries: Greek Chicken Wrap, sub grilled portobellas for the chicky. So yum. Toasted subs are 84390 x's better than regular subs. Other favorites include the Planet Veggie, Pesto-Bello and back in my animal-eating days I swore by the Turkey (no mayo--bleck). I don't know anyone who doesn't appreciate this place. It's become my Friday solo lunch date spot...pick a seat by the window with a copy of the Pitch and a delicious sandwich and I'm good to GO. read more

Ever since we left Lansing, Michigan, we have tried to find a place that makes grinders as good as Mancino's. It has been an impossible feat, until now. (I say grinder, but for the rest of this post, I will use sub, like the restaurant did.) I got the Buffalo Chicken Sub w/a small Greek Salad. My hubby got their special, Jacked Up Chicken Ranch sub. Both of our mouths got a little warm, but so worth it. The salad helped cool down my mouth and allowed me to continue eating my sub. They have Coke products, which is huge for me. I am so not a fan of Pepsi and do not understand why so many places in this area serve it. When a place has Coke, they shoot to the top of my "Yippee" list. I will definitely be going back. I work within walking distance so I go to this place about 2-3 times a week often. I've had most of the sandwiches on the menu. I've had a lot of their salads, and talked with a lot of their employees. This is a good, solid sandwich shop. Oh sure, the pretentious hoi polloi might go for The Mixx, but I really don't care what the limousine liberals think (not you, public transportation liberals... you're okay with me). They have roughly 987 sandwich options, a good selection of salads, and the soups are fresh and hot and changed daily. This place is hilarious ... it's where I proudly go to make stoners make my sandwich! I enjoy the psychedelic artwork, the Beatles posters, the Jimmy Hendrix poster, the mop headed teenagers behind the counter laughing, always laughing at stuff. And nobody is ever in there, really - it's never all that busy, but everyone I know eats there a lot. So it's kind of an anomaly. Sandwiches can be boring, typical and expected - but I'm usually surprised by Planet Subs odd collection on the menu. I'm a fan of either their chicken parmigiana or meatball sub because both are filled with miles of mozzarella after its toasted, so easy, cheap and good. My sister craves the chipotle chicken wrap once a week (with the chipotle sauce on the side for some reason.) One day, maybe I'll try it, at least to shut her up about it because she's obsessed. I used to order the Planet Sub a lot because I didn't know what else to order, but I discovered I'm not really a roast beef sandwich kind of girl ... BUT I am a bacon girl, I will put bacon on anything! Unfortunately for me, this discovery about the roast beef made it difficult for me to order much else other than the Italian-style subs, because half the menu is some twist on a roast beef sandwich. And if you don't like meat at all, this place has just as many vegetarian options as those for carnivores. Some of them sound better than their meat sandwiches to me - like the Planet Veggie with provolone, cheddar, artichoke hearts, olive tapenade, and sun-dried tomatoes...yum. Anything toasted is fine with me...I could eat anything between warm, toasty bread, even things I wouldn't eat otherwise (and sometimes with the young and hysterical staff behind the counter with all the Beatles posters, I wonder if I'm eating closer to this reality) - but either way, what I don't know doesn't kill me. You walk up to the counter, order your sandwich, they give you a playing card, and then you go sit down. When you hear your card called, that means your sandwich is ready. Quite simple, really. Great location just south of the Plaza near the KC Library. There are many hot sub places in Kansas City, but this one is uniquely KC. My wife loves the Creamy Crab that has Surimi Crab, Bacon, Cream Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes, and Mayonnaise. It is very remarkable sandwich.
