Okay Modern Market, I see you. I was on the hunt for a healthy-ish spot for lunch (I mean, hello it is January), when I came upon Modern Market Eatery on Yelp. Upon doing some research I learned it's a scratch kitchen specializing in clean eats, and that it's a chain. A win for the health options, a ding for the chain, but not all chains are bad, an we are living in a time where there are some winners. So, I packed myself up and headed down the road to Prairie Village. It's still fairly new, and it has that squeaky clean feeling to it when you arrive. Inside it's counter service and you seat yourself (they will bring the food to you). It kind of reminded me of how Noodles and Company felt when they first became a thing way back in the early 2000s. I ordered a thai salad that came in at under 400 calories so I was honestly skeptical at how big or flavorful it would really be when it arrived, and holy cow was it good. The chicken was cold, but still held some flavor, the dressing was great, there were fresh veggies, pickled onions. It was one of the best 400 calorie meals I've had in a long time. My dad ordered the salmon curry and he also enjoyed his though I didn't try it so jury's out on my opinion! I left full and happy to have discovered this spot. I'll be back soon! read more

Yesss a healthy option near me! The Buddha bowl was amazing and felt so good to eat - you can sub in things like avocado and mushrooms to your liking. The tofu in this bowl was some of the best tofu I've ever had! My partner ordered a banh mi and loved the spice level. They also make fresh and interesting lemonades, like cucumber mint and hibiscus! Everything you get here makes you feel like you're doing something right for your body. I left feeling the right amount of full and very satisfied! I super appreciate being able to have Modern Market so nearby, and I'm shocked I hadn't tried it sooner! read more

I ordered the chicken banh mi which came with chips. I also got a side of fire roasted veggies. The banh mi had a good flavor but for the price I thought it was a bit small and light on the chicken. ($15.30 for a whole sandwich) It had carrots and cilantro and a tangy sauce. The sauce that was on my sandwich was different than the picture online. I did get my order through Uber Eats. The veggies were very fresh and crispy on the sandwich. The fire roasted veggies were not seasoned except for a bit of turmeric but it didn't really have a taste. While I never had the pizza here, I've gotten to try some of the salads and bowls here and none have disappointed. The prices are a little higher to make this a regular spot, but it's a clean and consistent place for a healthy lunch with seating inside or on their patio. read more

The Urban Farmer winter upgrade is like your favorite summer fling who went off, found themselves, learned how to roast vegetables, and came back ready for commitment. First bite: fluffy greens, so light I thought a strong sneeze might send them flying. Then BAM -- roasted butternut squash and red beets elbow their way in, cozy and sweet like two grandmas fighting to feed you at Thanksgiving. Dried cranberries and seasonal fruit pop in like tiny flavor grenades, exploding with sass. The toasted pepitas? Crunchier than my knees in winter. And don't even get me started on the goat cheese -- creamy, dreamy, and frankly way too good for me. All of this glorious chaos is roped together with a creamy maple mustard dressing that's somehow both cozy sweater and power suit. One ounce is only 70 calories, but emotionally, it's worth 3,000. We ordered the Salmon Caesar Salad, the Margherita Pizza with added grilled chicken, and the Cucumber Mint drink. The Salmon Caesar Salad was outstanding--everything from the perfectly cooked salmon to the crisp croutons was delicious. The Cucumber Mint drink was incredibly refreshing and instantly reminded me of the drinks at Cava -- light, flavorful, and so satisfying. The Margherita Pizza, however, was just okay. This was my first time ordering from Modern Market Eatery, I am always on the lookout for great salads. I got the Steak Salad, with mushrooms. I ordered with extra steak not knowing how big the salad was, I will say I was pleased with the amount of steak I got, in fact, I didn't need the extra. Now I know, it is a good salad for the price, I would say it actually needs more lettuce because of the amount of steak. It is more a steak with a small side of salad. read more

The blackened chicken mango bowl ($13.65) included a variety of healthy foods including rice, quinoa, roasted sweet potato, black beans, etc. with a generous portion of somewhat spicy blackened chicken and a tasty sauce. It was brought to my table just six minutes after I ordered at the counter, where the service was cheerful and professional. The menu included signature and custom bowls, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, soups and meals for the kiddos. I also noticed a variety of unique beverages including three iced teas, three lemonades and several sodas made with pure cane sugar. The prices seemed reasonable for the high-quality lunch. It's so great to have a place like this close by. I had the shrimp BLT bowl and it was really special- next time I'll ask for it without blue cheese however- just a personal preference. The bacon croutons tossed with the lightly dressed arugula was so delicious and made me decide that I need to try to make this at home sometime! My friend got salmon with roasted vegetables & thankfully the salmon was a really generous portion which we were impressed with- so many places try to skimp on protein lately. This is a lovely addition to the area. The food is SUPER YUM!! All completely flavorful and alive with color and freshness. You can order a salad or a bowl off the menu or create your own with their amazing possibilities. And while it is very healthy, and you "shouldn't" probably have a soda, do NOT skip the soda fountain. They have their own sodas, made with pure cane sugar and full of flavor. I noticed that the host was very patient and gave good recommendations as we ordered, the restaurant was very clean, and based on our meals they really do use fresh ingredients. I visited the restaurant chain for the first time with a fellow guest on a late Sunday afternoon. The restaurant had a lot of seating and for the most part, was clean. I ordered the Buddha Bowl (sesame glazed tofu, rice and quinoa, spicy roasted broccoli, carrot, citrus cabbage slaw, peanuts, cilantro and peanut mango sauce). It was DELICIOUS. The entire bowl was so fresh and there was more than enough for me. I will truly be thinking about this bowl until I get to have it again. My fellow guest ordered a tomato basil soup and side of macaroni and cheese and enjoyed it, too. We both tried a few of the different craft lemonades and teas, which were all super refreshing! We had the salmon wrap and the chicken bacon jam sandwich. Both were exceptional. We are very clean eaters and Modern Market passed the test. I felt like the quality was supreme and the taste was amazing. Everything was so balanced and nothing overwhelmed the sandwiches. The chicken bacon jam sandwich is on toasted bread and I worried that it would be soggy by the time we ate it but it was still intact two hours later. It isn't clear on all the sandwiches, but they come with a bag of Kettle chips. They offer more sides, but the small bag of chips (pita chips with the wrap) with the sandwiches was very filling. I was very disappointed with the food we ordered and received today. My Mom and I both had the salmon Caesar salad. The salmon was dry and overly salted. The cucumbers had a "funky taste to them. The Romaine lettuce was yellow and hard to chew since we received large portions of the white center section of the romaine. There were too many croutons, and they were large in size. Too hard for Senior citizens to chew through. (They also burnt bread while we were there, and it stunk up the restaurant for a few minutes.) It just must have been an off day for them. read more

This is such a great addition to the Corinth Plaza! My husband and I lived in Denver area about 10 years ago and we used to visit the Modern Market location there quite frequently. Needless to say, we were excited to see one open in Prairie Village. For our first try of the new location, we ordered takeout. It was ready on time and everything in the order was correct. This place absolutely should be avoided. The salads are visibly slightly rotted when served to guests. I watched a worker (the kitchen is visible from the lobby) dig his hand down his pants then make a pizza WITHOUT GLOVES!!
