Met with the store owner Rich. He's a nice guy. However, it took well over an hour in the chair for a basic fade. He must have brushed the hair off of my shoulders 25 times in the process. Only accepts cash and charged 40$ for a basic fade not including tip. read more

Love this barbershop! I was looking for a place to get a fade and decided to look up barbershops on yelp. This place popped up with the highest rating so I had to check it out. When I got there I had to wait since I was a walk in but the wait time was pretty quick. They had 5 barbers working at the time. When I got seated I asked for a high fade haircut and the barber that cut my hair did a excellent job. He was really friendly and great to talk to. I have gone back several times and always ask for him. Def recommend everyone to try this place out you will not be disappointed. The haircuts are $20. read more

After scouring the internet for a barbershop, I landed on this one based on the number/quality of reviews. When I walked in, not one person was wearing a mask. This was a major sign of the lack of professional ownership as we should all expect safety practices during the tail end of a pandemic. Signs were mis-spelled, cleanliness was subpar and my cut was overpriced. The fade was decent and the length on top worked for me, hence why I'm submitting an extra star. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this business to somebody looking for a quality cut. read more

This place has gotten much more busy. A simple walk-in can even take up to a two-hour wait, and an extra 30 min cut. Especially, on Saturdays. Remember to bring cash, as card options are not here. Their attention to detail is amazing. I've seen great hairstyles and updates on the patrons who walk out. But, with that attention to detail comes the extra price of waiting. I have noticed that they get into deep conversations, and although you are paying for the experience of a genuine barbershop of stories and artform, the wait can become unbearable at times, since those who wait don't talk amongst themselves, and stare quietly into their phones. It would be nice, if there was a more interactive environment, whether the conversations were open to discussion, or the barbers would pay attention to who was in the chair, and not their phones or others who walk in. Because, multi-tasking with a hairclipper in one's hand is not necessary. Especially for those who are late for work, or an appointment. But, as most conversations about this gem of a barbershop, the outcome is incredible. It brings culture back to the craft. So, if you have a few hours to spend. Haircut was decent, but 40$ seems steep at a barber. I have been to a few barbers in town and prices range from 15-25$, but never 40$.

I typically go to the ABQ Barber College, but it looked like it was closed down. I turned to Yelp for recommendations. How lucky was I to find a shop just a few blocks from my mother's house?! I am a lucky man. I went a little after opening. There were 3 guys waiting. Two barbers cutting hair. Rich is in first chair. There was a Latino guy in the rear chair. Rich told me that there would be a wait. I was on vacation, so I wasn't in a hurry. I sat down on a couch. There are two massage chairs, along the wall. The left side of the space is the barber shop. On the right, a small beauty salon and nail care area. (There were no stylists/nail techs there, or I would have gotten a manicure, too.) Christian sayings and Bible verses dot the space. There was Christian music playing, but it wasn't too loud nor obnoxious. Rich asked each of us how we found out about this shop. A gentleman and his son said that they knew the Latino barber and were waiting for him. A young man, to my right, stated that his roommate had recommended the place. Rich finished up the guy he was working on, then called up the college kid. The kid told him what he wanted. Rich explained to him the art of the haircut. I listened to his conversation and watched him work. He is a true professional. That student walked out with a great haircut and some good advice on how to keep it looking nice. My turn in the chair. I don't have much hair left, so it is pretty hard to mess me up. I came out looking like I have more hair than I do! Great haircut. Rich was efficient and checked with me multiple times, during the haircut, to see if what he was doing met with my approval. Rich had heard me talking to the student about teaching. (Yes, I'm always recruiting, especially since the guy was a math major!) He asked me about my job. Upon explaining, he stated that he wished that there something like my Career Technical Education programs, when he was growing up. One of the customers also chimed in. Great conversation about education. (It is refreshing to have a conversation not get steered into, "You know what is wrong with education? blah, blah, blah) Great haircut. $15 Plenty of parking. (Note, there is a handicapped spot near the entrance. If you didn't know the sign was there, you'd easily miss it. I did!) Check this place out. I will be back! read more

On the upside, they do a solid cut. They definitely know how to do a clean fade even if things can feel a little rough (from Daniel at least). The price is right and the space is big and comfortable to wait in. On the downside, they aren't the most modest guys when it comes to their barbershop talents or their Christian piety. Also, not sure how standard this is, but a $5 tip on my $15 cut seemed to be expected (wasn't offered any change). A 33% tip isn't always my thing, and I had to get pushy to get around the "sorry we don't have any change" excuse. Still a couple of shops I want to check out in town. Small staff, a little bit of a wait but well worth the time. I have been told I could call ahead for a reservation but the waiting room is comfortable. The barbers are meticulous, pay close attention to detail. Even use a straight razor to make sure the final result is very clean. This place didn't have a lot of class. In the end I was charged $50 for a head shave and my beard touched up. Either they scammed me or they're extremely over priced. The Goodfellas do an amazing job.... Not just cutting hair..... But beard trimming. I am very particular about my beard and anytime I have somebody new trim it, I have anxiety...... Lol. Walter (aka Barbara Walter lol) really did an amazing job and I was actually super happy with my new beard look. Which is very difficult to do as I am really particular and picky. The old school decor and just the friendliness of the guys really made my experience very very enjoyable. I haven't read a national geographic in years. This is one of the best barbershops in New Mexico. I drive down from Gallup twice a month because I haven't found anyone as good any closer. They're all good guys: Rich is appointment only Thursday-Saturday, Daniel and Walter take walk ins. Each of them will do a great job. I've been getting a haircut here, once a week, for over 2 years. Daniel is a genius with a straight razor, smooth as silk every time. Some days are busier than other so there can be a wait but the wait is never long and the seating is comfortable. All three guys know their stuff but Daniel wins my recommendation since not so much a a nick of the skin in over 100 head and face shaves. Angela gave me the best hair cut I have had in many years. Worth way more than the $20 she charges. I had a lot of crazy layers and she methodically and carefully reshaped and put my cut back into proportion. She listens and is attentive, as well as experienced and well-trained. She also took care of my partner who desperately needed an overall grooming, especially his mustache. She tapered his mustache perfectly. Came here for the second time and the guy (didn't get their names) that cut my sons hair did a good job. My regular barber wasn't available, which is why I returned to Goodfellows. I may return, but it really bugs they don't accept credit cards. So, I had to run to an ATM and upon returning they didn't have change readily available. Another thing that bothered me was the guy didn't offer any change for my $20 for a $15 haircut. I don't mind giving 20%, but $5 tip for having me drive to an ATM and then not offering change...come on, man. It's only polite. By the end of it, I just wanted to get out of there.
