After talking to numerous locals, I decided to check out Goodies for some down home barbecue. I visited on Labor Day and waited for what seemed like an eternity for beef ribs, mac & cheese, and candied yams. After a two hour wait, I got my food and hoped that the lengthy wait was worth it. My ribs were extremely fatty with little to no meat. The macaroni and yams lacked not only flavor, but soul. The barbecue sauce had an excessive amount of vinegar. I don't think this was a one off situation, but simply how they make their 'que. read more

I placed an online order half slab potatoe salad rib tip meal etc. my daughter picked up item and she noticed the potato salad was not the right size so she mentioned it to the young lady that it was wrong and was met with an attitude. she brought my portion of the order to me half slab rib and potato salad that cost over 25.00. the ribs bones were hughe and cold and looked old. I was very disappointed to say the least. so I called to let them know that I would be returning them. I was put on hold for a while and had to hang up. I called back and spoke to the same person who put me on hold whose name was SHANTI. her response to me when I told her about my order and that I would be returning them she said "what do you want me to do" I said give me another half slab to which she said "we don't have no ribs". ok well how about rib tips, " I said we don't have no rib. as I tried to some suggestions she hangs up. I called back to ask if she hung up on me and she tells me we are busy and hung up again. Been eating Goodies for 20 years. I've since moved to Texas and here for the holidays and I tried countless bbq restaurants to give me a bit of that Texas pit flavor. Good authentic southern barbecue and soul food. They have unique items on their menu that you won't find at other local barbecue joints. For example, they have rib tips, okra, sweet cornbread, and yams which are great to see because I haven't had them since I moved from the south. I came here for lunch with a large group. Most people are getting take out so we had no trouble getting a table. Their menu is a la carte or plates, so I ordered a plate. It was a ton of food and probably meant as a dinner portion, so next time I will order off of their lunch special menu which had more items closer to $6. I got the 2 rib beef plate with mac n cheese, baked beans, and sweetbread ($13.74). I didn't realize that these were beef short ribs, but that's actually great because I love short ribs. If you want the larger spare ribs, you should order that instead. My friend got rib tips and it was a huge portion, even though he got the "small" size plate. The prices are a little high, but they are fair for the portion sizes which are gigantic. You'll go home with leftovers! People working here were very friendly, and service was faster than expected. We waited 5 minutes in line to place our order and then another 5-10 minutes to get our food, but not that bad at all. My friends have told me they have come here before and had to wait a very long time for food though, so be prepared for that. Free street parking. Walking up to the building automatically makes you feel your about to get some down home, no frills soul food bbq. The staff was EXTREMELY on point very tentative and seemed pleased to make my experience a good one. This place main staple is the smoked bbq which is great! the smell alone that hits you walking up makes you hungry. My brisket was very tender and fuuull of smoke flavor just wish it wasn't cut sooo thin but for a $4 sandwich full of goodness I can't complain to much. Even though this spot is marketed for bbq you are cheating yourself if you never try the fried fish..... I was shocked how good the fish was, fried perfectly. I used to go to Goodies way back in the late 90's with great memories. This time, it was really bad. I hoping because of the Cincy Refined article they were busy. We walked in placed our order, paid and then told a 1 hour wait. We waited. Got home and the disappointment was overwhelming. The greens looked and tasted like frozen watery spinach with no seasoning, not even salt. The macaroni was bland. The rib tips were what we came for and mheh. I ate here the other day with my fiancé and another couple. the place wasn't crowded. just a few tables were taken up. we've been wanting to try the food here after seeing some of the reviews and since we were in the area we figured we'd give it a try. the booths were very uncomfortable.. specially for 4 people. we took a seat and at first no one was coming to wait on us so we thought maybe you ordered up from first.. we get up there and a nice young lady tells us a waitress will come to our table.. so we sat back down and waited for about 10 mins before someone came to wait on us (again.. they weren't busy at all). The waitress took our order and we all got a little bit of everything so we could share and sample one another's. The food starts coming out and at this point we are all starving.. we all start digging in and that's where our moods just changed.. I could just tell no one at our table was enjoying anything just from the looks on there faces. I hate to say this but only thing we all enjoyed was the bottled water. The brisket.. all you could taste is the smoke.. you couldn't takes the meat AT ALL! and the sauce wasn't made well at all. You could taste the texture of the raw spices on your tongue. the pulled pork was so salty you Immediately had to follow it with a drink of water. the turkey was like shoe leather, very dry. the sides were just as bad. I don't know who makes the red beans and rice but omg it was horrible! it was as if you were eating raw chili powder! they say they make their potato salad there.. but it didn't taste like it to me.. and everyone else agreed that it taste store bought. it's that or they make it days ahead of time.. but it wasn't good at all. the core bread was dry.. the fries were.. were.. just fries and the greens were just slimy.. Nope this food was a waste of time, money & my appetite . Hot diggity damn! This place is the shiznit. The food, the service and everything else was just on point. The staff was nice very attentive, let us sample a few dishes and was prompt with everything we ordered. But, let's get to the food, I ordered the rib tips (small order), baked beans, Cole slaw with sweet bread. The sweet bread was soft and moist, the rib tips were full of flavor and when pair with both BBQ sauces that are homemade( spicy was my favorite) it was just perfection in my mouth,the coleslaw was creamy and has an excellent base and the baked beans were perfect not too sweet and even packed a little heat. Oh and I almost forgot about the peach cobbler, it was great and again not overwhelmingly sweet. So if you want if you want some good Ole BBQ, make it over to Mount Healthy, because it is well worth the trip and is better than all of the BBQ places I've been to in the Cincinnati area and rivals most of the places I've been to in Columbus as well. We had lunch at Goodies on Tuesday and it was delicious! We haven't been for about a year and decided to stop in since we were in the area. I ordered the Regular Pig (normal size pulled pork sandwich) with coleslaw. My husband ordered the Lg. End Ribs Plate. His sides were green beans and baked beans. I was jealous of his baked beans when I saw them because I remember how awesome they taste! They have pepperoni in the bake beans. My husband said the ribs were "out of this world delicious" and very tender. His meal also came with a corn muffin. It was warm and moist. The hot bbq sauce is fabulous. The mild is really good too but the hot variety they make is our favorite. I decided to get a dessert, since it was free with the check-in. I ordered the new dessert of Brown Butter Cake. I was going to share it with my husband but it was so yummy that I ate most it. I did save him a couple bites and he thought it was really good too. How does the service get worse and the food get more expensive at the same time. I used to come here all the time but now I'll never be coming back. First the young lady at the counter was leaning over on counter and rolling her eyes as the customers came in. You can't call in orders you have to use the website, the website is only taking orders for the NEXT day, so I come about 15 miles to still order and the wait is an entire hour. I really like this place. Very good southern style food or soul food. This is the kind of food I grew up eating. I haven't had a bad meal here and the portion sizes are awesome. The service is acceptable and the food reminds me of home. They have a good size menu and plenty of dessert options. The decor and interior is lack luster and dated, but that's what I like about it. Classic bbq joint located in the cute little main Street of mount healthy. The restaurant itself is nice, clean, and had a great vibe to it. We were promptly waited on when arrived by the cutest young lady, apparently the daughter of the staff who was on summer vacation. She was awesome and extremely polite. Our food came out quickly and was quite tasty. Unfortunately, we both got the rib tips, so I didn't get to taste other dishes. But they were great and plentiful. Got to try this well-known establishment due to politico Alicia Reece and her savvy campaign team, Friends of Alicia Reece. Their food truck was parked near the massive weekend early voting line Sunday, November 1st at the county's Board of Elections headquarters in Norwood. One engaging in democracy there off Smith Rd. could order as much they wanted choosing either rib tips or bbq chicken as the meat with two sides (either baked beans, mac n cheese, and I think greens was an option but by the time I stopped by they were all out), cornbread and a dessert. The staff wasn't necessarily wearing masks accordingly but they did switch out gloves after each person so huzzah to that. I'm more of a baked mac aficionado. Yet their creamy, gooey mac was fine. I just decided to get wings which were great! Although from my understanding they were to be coated in their sauce but I wasn't sweating for it took a nice little minute since the few in front of me were placing extra orders and after a long day I was cool with it. Which again is understandable for after church potentially and waiting to vote, who wants to cook? Not sure if sweet potato pie was store bought or homemade but if the former, I do enjoy me a Patti pie on the occassion. So in my 7 years in Cincinnati, I can honestly say I have found good food, but I was not expecting to find a place that would slap the taste buds out of me. Goodies is not only Good, I dare say it might be one of the best places in the Cincinnati Area to get food. Definitely the top BBQ spot of all the places I have tried. So we happened to discover this place because I needed to get my car fixed and just happened to run across it on yelp. The menu was pretty expansive and I was happy to see that it had all the basics covered and more. We went around 2 PM, so not crowded at all. But within an hour, we saw masses of people come in for takeout orders. You could tell everyone was prepared and sold same day as the smoker was out back cooking all the meats that would get sold. Unfortunately, the Brisket was not ready yet. So we decided to order a pork Sandwich and a small rib tips plate. The Rib Tips were phenomenal. We also had greens, Fries, baked beans, and coleslaw. Everything tasted like heaven on a plate and the service was impeccable. We actually were stuffed and yet the server to our surprised came out with a few more rib tips to help...seal the itis. So the service was friendly and top notch needless to say. Overall, couldn't think of a better local business experience. First time eating at this little gem today. I was with a group of 8 and everything we had was great. The pulled pork was tasty with nice burnt ends. The sweet bread was great. The green beans had good seasoning. The mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. Sweet tea was even very good! The only complaint I would have was the service was slow. Our waitress was super friendly, just maybe too busy - refills were quite slow, and at least 10-15 minutes passed between drink orders and food orders. NOT a big deal. This was my wife and I's first time visiting Goodies. She ordered the chicken wings, i ordered beef tips and got a Whiting plate for mother in law. My wife enjoyed the wings and the sauce. There were good portions. My wife was disappointed with the sweet tea. She thought it was homemade but instead it came out of the machine. The beef tips were cook well but i did not like the cut. The whiting was very good. I liked how they bring your food out and open it up for you to review. I will go back again but i will order something else. read more

This is specific to the Sunday buffet. We got there right when it opened at 11. Not all of the food was even on the buffet yet which we we're fine with because that meant it came out fresh. You pay at the counter then hit up the buffet. Servers were super nice and great about refills. Everything we tried was super tasty. I had salad, potato salad, green beans, greens, Mac n cheese, wings, rib, fried fish and a piece of fried chicken. Literally there was not one bad item. A great touch was that the tables had both Tabasco + Chipotle Tobasco. I love Chipotle Tobasco and I used it to kick up my fish, chicken and greens. The buffet is only the first Sunday of every month. Not sure if it's all day or cuts off at some point but super worth it. The bad was the minimal A/C. That had fans on but the side where the buffet was was boiling hot. Our side was definitely warm. It's an older building so things feel like an older building. Didn't detract from the food. If you really enjoy authentic, not commercially and mass produced BBQ, then look no further because Goodies nailed it. This place reminded me of visiting an original old-fashioned BBQ joint like they have all over Kansas City (where I grew up), kind of likes Gates and Sons or Joe's before they went big time (haven't heard of them? Google). I stopped in my with my son for a quick lunch on a Tuesday. From the reviews I read, I thought it might be busy, but the lunch crowd on a weekday is light - and for the life of me I don't know why - perhaps location. It's located on a corner in the historic area of Mount Healthy, right on the main road. There was plenty of free street parking for lunch time. When we entered the restaurant, it was like taking a trip back in time. Giant round padded red vinyl booths, a long bar (also padded on the front with red vinyl), and small 2 and 4 top tables in the center. There's a counter at back where you can order, but we sat down and someone brought us a menu. We were there pretty early for lunch so we were the only ones in there. All the usual options on the menu and a HUGE select of sides including BBQ classics like mac'n'cheese, cole slaw, and collard greens. We love brisket, so we both ordered sandwiches with the Mild and Spicy BBQ sauce. I added a couple of sides to make mine a platter - french fries (for my son) and mac'n'cheese. It took a little while for the food to come out, but we were entertained by some pretty fantastic Motown classics and just by relaxing and taking it in. Our server was very friendly and very accommodating. We found that the sauce wasn't really what we were looking for and she recommended the Tangy BBQ instead - holy cow - it was perfect. The seasoning on the brisket was just right and it was smoked to perfection - not overdone, but nice and juicy with a good smoked coating around each slice. The bun was fresh and soft and a perfect compliment to the meat. The mac'n'cheese melted in my mouth - but I'd order it without the extra cheddar backed on top (personal preference) and the fries were fresh and crispy. Throughout the meal, we hardly spoke. I think it's because we were speechless and just enjoying our food so much. The food was excellent and we were so full, we never even checked out the desserts. Check your orders before leaving. I've been here multiple times ( the food is on point) but they have never NEVER gotten my order correct. I either have gotten something completely different that what I ordered or have asked for medium or large sides to be given smalls. I've actually gotten fed up with it so I'll order a pulled pork ( hog) sandwich and 2 sides and hope I get something good. I ordered the half rack of ribs from door dash last night. Let's just say awful is an understatement. It was a ton of meat with so much connective tissue, fat and no bones. I mean when you order ribs you expect bones! Not to mention the meat at the bottom of the container was raw! The "greens" tasted more like canned spinach and the baked beans were seasoned with pepperoni. I'm not from this area so maybe this is what you guys call "southern" cooking.
