The building is really nice. Tvs under the exam seats and in the lobby. Toys and books for kids to read while they wait. Everything looked well kept and clean. The dental assistant that handled my child was beyond perfect with her. My daughter did very well in the environment and it was because of the calm and caring demeanor of the person who took her X-rays and did her cleaning. It came time to meet Dr. Tam. He was very direct, monotone, and didn't have the the child friendly demeanor I had expected and hoped for. He tried to connect with my child but it like he was going through the motions (or at least that was my perception which could be wrong). It could have been that they were busy and he just didn't feel like he had time to try but I left the interaction feeling indifferent. He was informative and got a plan in place for us to move forward with. Overall this place is worth checking out at the very least. I'm glad I checked it out and I loved how they give the kid a toy out of a dispenser when you leave. It's a very nice touch and now my kid will be excited to go back

It wasn't until he started complaining of gum pain on and off for a few days that I pulled the trigger and contacted this place based on our neighbor's recommendation. Normally I like to look up the providers in our network first, then their rating before calling to make an appointment, but desparate time requires desperate measure. I'm so glad everything worked out and our toddler now loves it here. For his very first dental appointment and I was blown away at how calm and how well he did. He followed all the instruction, complied with all the checkup and cleaning. I couldn't be prouder of him. It does help that they have TV mounted on the ceiling to keep the kids' looking up and be distracted, but I think I was more into the TV that day than our kiddo lol. Our dentist was Dr. Tam. It was a quick appointment for him since our toddler's teeth didn't have any issue, but he did take his time afterward to answer my questions and talking about our pediatrician who shares the same last name as him. At the end, our kid got to pick a toy from one of the vending machines or a bigger toy that they have. He went for the vending machine one, but they were very nice and gave him one of the bigger toy too. Which definitely was a huge bonus for him to want to come back. I can't recommend this place enough and just glad they are here in SM!

I had been referred to a dentist who was willing to do a root canal and recrown of one of my lower molars. I located them as they were the only ones within a 200 mile radius that took my insurance. My regular dentist, Dr Smith, at Feather Dentistry in San Luis Obispo, California, was not willing to do the work. But she had recommended me to someone who would, based on her assessment that I had a need for a new crown and a root canal. I arrived at the dental office and was attended to buy a Dr Johnson. He saw what was required, based on what he read from my referral dentist Dr Smith, and suggested we do the root canal and the crown that very day. I accepted. During the process of the root canal and the crown, Dr Johnson complained frequently that the entire process was quite difficult and seemed to have a problem getting at a point where he was satisfied with the work. I was very roughly treated, although not remarking so because I had no idea if this was normal or not. After quite a heavy physical struggle, he completed the process of both a root canal, and a crown. The final half an hour was done by his dental assistant, whose name I do not have. She seemed like about 35 or 40 years old, Latina, and finished whatever was necessary to complete the medical process. After paying around $1,000 out of pocket as well as whatever was required through my insurance, I left. Within a couple of days I felt that there was something very uncomfortable about the tooth. On April 1, 2025, I went to my regular dentist, D. Smith and talked to my hygienist. I said that I was feeling that there was something uncomfortable about the tooth. So consulting with Dr Smith, my regular dentist, they proceeded to do an x-ray and visual inspection of the tooth. One was noticed that an adjacent tooth had been chipped. So my dentist filled that chip tooth. I asked her if this could have been a result of the actions of Dr Johnson. She said probably not. But of course she was not sure. At the same time, or at some later date, she let me know that in fact the subject tooth the one requiring the root canal and crown had been cracked. She said it in the long run, it would need to be removed, and replaced with either a bridge or an implant. She also suggested that I have a more detailed optical image taken of the injury. Vivana, at the front desk, was incredibly kind and informational. She was happy to answer any questions I had, and trust me I had quite a few. The dental hygienist, Jill, provided a compassionate climate, showing she really cares about the patients wellbeing and comfortability the entire time. Dr. Coon showed great chairside manner and was really helpful with any concerns or questions I had. The building is very conveniently located with a cozy office that is tremendously welcoming. They even set out little snacks and beverages in a mini refrigerator for anyone in the waiting room to enjoy or take with them on the way out. I mean, you really cannot get any better service than this!

They stated that they will switch over the whole account including the money once we found an orthodontist in Florida. So I dropped it until this month when I found an ortho here in Florida. My daughter has had to have two phases with her ortho and she has completed phase one which was April 30, 2019 through November 2019 from what I can see in the paperwork. So that is seven months out of the 36 months her plan has called for. I paid $7172! $2787 is all I have received And they've stated that 60% of the treatment has been done. I've contacted this company three times by email and asked for communication to be done through writing which they have ignored all emails for over a week. They refuse to email me me back as to why 60% of the treatment is stated when only seven months of the 36 months has been completed , and where is the rest of the money because from my understanding this does not calculate. They will not further communicate with me to help me understand if someone would like to get in touch with me. At this point that would be great. You have my email. Finally moved my daughter to a new dentist and thats how we found out that they hadn't been cleaning my daughters teeth properly. She was surprised that the new hygienist used the scraping tool and floss as all her past cleaning had been the flouride and tooth brush only.Luckily it seems they did properly take care of any cavities so that was a relief. Besides this, appointments tended to be all over the place. Sometimes on time and others very late. They seem to book as many back to back kids as possible and if one thing goes wrong then you're stuck waiting. We had one specific instance where my kid woke up sick, the day of, and we called to let them know and the receptionist very rudely said that our kid could not be seen for 6 months because of this and hung up. If I could re-do it again, i wouldn't bring my child here but when choices were limited it was the better of 2 places. It wasn't all bad but far from being good. My daughter never experienced pain so at least that was good.

Less than a week later I was told they no longer take Delta Dental. I now have a plan they do not take after being charged nearly $300 for my initial consultation (which other dentists in the area do not charge). If you don't have a PPO don't even bother. Now I'm curious to compare what my new dentist's suggested treatment plan is so I can compare it to what was recommended at (not so) Zen Dental.
