This place was so surreal. We all lined up waiting behind a barrier for the next "drop". The people at the front kinda ran towards the bins when the barrier dropped and I think a bell even rang. There was a frenzy as they rushed through the goods plucking what seemed like trash (to my untrained eyes?) from the piles and choosing...a lot to keep. I wandered around looking at what must be the leftovers from the Goodwills? Surely? Anyways, we did find a brand new pair of L.L. bean boots somehow. the customers here take it way to seriously. grown ass 6 foot men will shove you if you get in their way. i went here for the first time at 15, stayed out of the way, and still got shoved by a giant man who absolutely should've known better. the workers along with the regular customers seem to show weird entitlement and carelessness. i've been here many times and i've always shown kindness and always been hyper aware of the people around me; going out of my way for others convenience, yet people still somehow find reasons to be rude. i could just be coincidentally running into unkind people each time i go, but that's my experience unfortunately. if you don't notice or care about other people AT ALL Athen you would love shopping here!! i've found decent stuff but it's basically same quality as any regular goodwill, just significantly cheaper. read more

Well this place was wild. Overstimulating and overwheming at first but I walked out with a good haul for $5 and some change. The staff was helpful, courteous, and gave good instructions. went 2x last week. same problem. found single sneakers, 11 in all. almost brand new but could not find the match. this happened twice in 2 weeks. where's the match??? seems a little fishy makes you wonder if the matches for the sneakers are in the back and being held so the employees can take home. sorry. but that's just my feeling being this happened twice in 2 weeks. very sad read more

Goodwill Clearance Center - Thrift Stores Near Me - Rochester, New York

Staff are incredibly rude and show no urgency when it comes to practically anything. They'll constantly yell at customers and frequently gang up on them no matter what the situation. I understand being overwhelmed but if they're doing nothing other than sitting in the back, not helping the one cashier for the whole store, then there's no such thing as overwhelmed. They need a real manager who can actually get this place together since them seem to have no direction among themselves. It can take over an hour just to check out at which point I don't even the filthy item I've deemed 'worth it'. The selection of items are mediocre at best, covered in filth, tangled in random yarn that has no end (so bring scissors). The amount of times I've been stabbed and cut by broken hangers, glass, nails and broken plastic is no joke, as they DO NOT clean the bins themselves or even attempt to filter out the broken/disgusting things. If you manage to sift down to the bottom of the bins you'll notice a thick layer of dust, dirt, glitter, broken pieces of plastic and game pieces. There is little to no value here, when you can buy intact, clean items online, in stores, or at literally ANY-OTHER goodwill. read more

It was an interesting experience. Staff is probably very overwhelmed and can come off a bit rude. There was a section for clothing and one for all other items. Items are weighed by the pound so if you have a full cart just be ready to separate items by the different categories that are weighed. A lot of vintage stuff mixed with newer things. read more

I went here based on the reviews as I have been raiding tons of goodwills for a couple specific items and wanted to hit them all. Never again. Anyone who claims this is a good place to find things is misleading. It was a big dirty warehouse with tons of giant plastic rolling garbage looking bins with picked over and broken garbage inside them and crazed people with absolutely no manners just crawling all over each other to look in the bins. One of the most awkward experiences of my life. This is the equivalent of dumpster diving and paying for it. read more

Went to the goodwill bins aka goodwill clearance center for the first time today! Spend about an hour looking through the bins. I did find some sweaters and some other cute items! The prices go by weight so for all of it, was much cheaper than most other goodwills nearby. Some people were aggressively throwing and digging through stuff and that made me sorta uncomfortable lol! read more

Well, this is quite the unique thrift store. Especially for around this area. Not many pictures are up online of this place. And the ones on Yelp that are up here are fake. This is a Goodwill bin store, a very rare species of thrift where items are dumped off here, that don't sell at the local Goodwills the first time. From what I've heard, they have expressed putting another in Syracuse. Of course, you won't find anything like this in Buffalo. The Goodwill companies in Rochester/Syracuse and Buffalo are different. But is it really a bad thing that we will never see one of these in our hometown? To start off with the positive (the one positive), the price is unbeatable. And combine that with discounted thrift pricing, and you can stock up on really anything for cheap. Clothes, VHS, DVD, toys, books, games, video games, furniture, they have it all. I can also say that the service at the cash registers is okay. If you're nice to the cashier, they will give you the lowest price possible. That's kind. However, there's a lot of bad mixed in here along with it. The extremely low prices for anything, and the mystery of what will be in stock at the bin store, AND the fact that there ain't no way to call up to see if any specific item is in stock, means that there's a lot of bargain hunters here. And unlike the other normal thrift stores, they aren't your friends. They're here to snatch up the best items first before you can get your hands on them, no matter if it results in fighting customers or police being called. The fact that it's downtown doesn't help the clientele. They're nasty. One of the big negatives of my shopping experiences here was when I saw an NES system complete with wires, controllers, and games. Yes, really. I said everything comes here. The system was in a bin. A new bin, being brought out onto the sales floor. The new bin wasnt in place yet. The silent rules of the shop state that a bin must be put in its proper place on the sales floor. Customers crowd around them. When the employee says "go!", it turns into a madhouse of grabbing and digging through the new bins. The bin with the NES was sitting in the middle of the main walkway. I took an early look at what was inside and I saw it. No one else really had yet, besides a foreign man eyeing me down, to see if my temptations would get the best of me. They did not. I had come in to the store prior, knowing that its easy for customers to get out of control, and break the rules. And that can lead to trouble. I decided to legally let the bin be put in its spot so that I wouldnt get into trouble. The rules were rules. A rabid, repeat offender shopper was in there with her boyfriend. She was waiting in the aisle where the bin was being placed. I followed the bin to try my best shot at getting the NES when it was time. She glanced over the bin with eagle eyes, until she got to the NES system. She yelled audibly, so that nearby shoppers could here, including me, "That's mine! I'm literally gonna fight anyone who tries to get it from me!" Yes, really. I didn't anticipate such hostility. What was I to do? Other people crowded around the new bin, as well, a usual event at the shop, blocking me out of reach of the NES, anyways. The staff was too busy moving the bins to pay attention to my needs. I couldnt tell them about it, before the digging began and she snatched it. I felt like a piece of submissive crap, because I followed the store rules. They yelled go. I watched as the repeat offender lunged her body towards the NES and stuffed as many wires and controllers into her body as she could. Another shopper got the games. They were common NES games. If an item like an NES comes out onto the sales floor while you are there, someone WILL do that to you. Guaranteed. I talked to a store employee about that experience on a later visit in a calm manner. I was still pissed about missing out on the NES, though. The employee didn't offer me much of a solution. "Unfortunately, that's kinda how the store works. If two customers fight over an item, the cops are called. Or if one customer notifies an employee that they want the same item as a rabid shopper eyeing said item, the item is then taken out of rotation for today and placed in the back for tomorrow." To quote Spongebob, that didn't help at all. If you've got biceps, and you come to this store ready to punch the living crap out of someone over a video game system, then by all means, you might have a shopping advantage at this store compared to other shoppers that are just trying to be polite. And for a goddamn thrift store, that's just not right. (Bring a getaway car and driver, too.) Five stars for price, one star for service and experience. read more

Timid people BEWARE lol. I went for the first time today just thinking it was like a normal goodwill, it is not. I was very confused as I saw a line of people waiting for something and I thought I skipped them all. They rotate the bins out every hour or so.. The line of people were waiting for the new bins and when the workers gave the go ahead it was chaos. I spoke to a lady who was going through bins and she gave me a great introduction and stuck with me to show me the ropes. Honestly I had a lot of fun, I feel kind of funky now though. Definitely bring gloves with you, roll up your sleeves and wear a mask because everyone was on top of each other trying to get into these bins. I probably would have spent about 30 dollars for all the stuff I got if I went to a regular goodwill but I only paid 6.31. That's insane and totally worth getting a little funky. Go get dirty!! This place is a joke. I can not hear very well. The store is very large with many people in the store. People testing blow dryers to be specific when I was told by an employee to move they are bringing bins out. I moved to the complete opposite side behind a yellow line where I thought would be acceptable. I guess it was the wrong spot and I was told in a extremely unprofessional manor "If you can't follow my rules you'll leave my store." "You need to be behind the yellow line." There are numerous yellow lines, I stood behind the supposed yellow line again and he repeated "If you cant follow my rules you need to leave." Such terrible costumer service. I threw everything out of my cart back into the bins and left. I will be contacting corporate. As there are no "rules" posted in this establishment on where to stand when bins are coming out; As I was beyond out of the way in a corner. Such terrible costumer service. I will not be shopping at any goodwill again as every one I have been too has terrible costumer service and this was the last straw for me. read more

One of the employees scammed me. He overcharged me because he thought I was naive. I'm young and blonde and it was first time at this bins. I got 3 t-shirts and 2 pants and the total was $19. I knew something was wrong because that's usually the price when I get a whole cart-full, not just a couple of items. I didn't say anything because I was too scared to speak up. The employees will also pressure you to round up because they get some sort of percentage added to their paycheck. I'm all about treating employees right- but it's upsetting that an older male employee thought he could take advantage of me and upcharge me because I looked foreign and naive. A hidden gem for artists, especially of the mixed media ilk. A variety of clothes & stuff is sold by the pound & comes out the warehouse door, every 1/2 hour (it can be somewhat of a feeding frenzy). read more

Previous reviews described the experience very accurately, there is a mad dash to the fresh bins, but as someone who doesn't attempt to fight along with the crowd, there's still interesting objects left in the bins once the pack descends on the newest batch of things. read more

This Is much different then your average Goodwill. Do you like digging through bins with items tossed about covered in a strange gooey substance? N...yes? Well prepare to have a fun. This is the only Goodwill Clearance Outlet I've been to and my expectations were pretty much met with a few surprises thrown in. It's quite large inside and they have each of the bins divided into separate categories of clothing, housewares, books and media. They keep the electronics at the back along the shelves which houses old televisions and computers that weigh more than your smart car. Other larger objects are along the sides but they vary in price. However, this is a clearance centre for reason. Clothing and housewares is weighed by the pound (.35 cents per pound) while all media items range from 25 cents to a dollar. Value wise this is a gold mine but the issue is you never know what you are going to find. Going off of that, the condition of the items is usually poor from being tossed around and abused by many so if you find an item in good shape, don't leave it or it will join the others. If you love thrifting and shopping for good deals then add this Goodwill to your shopping list. This Is a solid place for finding a treasure among the garbage. I love this GW clearance store because I have found new items for less than the regular GWFL retail store. I have found new shoes & boots for $1.99 each for my son & daughter. I use to watch thrift haul reviews on Youtube regarding the GW clearance stores and I wished we had one here & my prayers were answered. LOL! I really have to be patience because things are tossed around on the bins but you will find some real treasures if you remain patient. You must wash everything you bring home but that is what I do when I buy all my items from any thrift store. Happy hunting! read more
