Bonus points for two other good thrift spots that I can hit in the same area. Parking here is a breeze, as there is a nice and spacious lot. Setup is similar to the Sutherland Amvets, and the store is large. Things are sorted by clothing type, not size, so be prepared to spend a good amount of time going through the racks. I have found many gems here, though there is also a good amount of Shein and stained/ripped items. Prices have been creeping higher but it's not as bad as other thrift stores in SD. They do military discount and 50% off on certain color tags daily. Overall this is my go-to thrift store and I look forward to discovering what gems I can find here.

My daughter was having an eclectic wedding reception & I began seeing- & soon after, collecting- colorful glassware & table decor. Decided to GO GREEN for her party as I was able to find tons of gorgeous & phenomenally priced goodies... got nothing but enthusiastic praise & compliments at the event last week. Spent only a FRACTION of what I'd pay elsewhere, even some shall-remain-nameless thrift stores. Even better, now there's a neighborhood shop where "everybody knows my name" ;p, I can just relax a bit & browse (and cool off!), where Eddie & Marcus warmly greet me as I wander in, Manager Jose' stops to welcome me with a bit of chitchat as he sees me perusing, & my two favorite redheads, Crystal & Zodiac compliment me on my "new" dress or enthusiastically point out some treasure they've just put out that they KNOW I'll love. I really admire Jose' for creating such a warm & welcoming environment, note his (always)respectfulness towards his staff, & kindness toward all his shoppers; very much appreciate the friendly helpfulness of the entire gang. I'm not the big thrift store shopper I used to be before the Internet era. In many cases I can buy…read morethings online for less money, and not have to deal with people I don't want to. But when I am near San Diego I do have a thrift store I usually go to. I went yesterday and again didn't find anything. I guess I was Jonesing because this morning I checked an app I write notes in, for stores I mean to visit when nearby. Then looked here in Yelp for stores near where I was at that moment. This store was near me so I drove there, stopped in and looked around. I found an article of clothing that I liked. Only 40% cheaper than the one I ordered on Amazon recently. But when the Amazon one arrived, the color didn't match the color name. White is not grey. It was an Amazon house brand. The one I bought at Salvation Army was a premium brand, a color I was happy with and there was no sales tax. And no wait to get it. An overall win in my book. I saw a couple of other non-clothing things I liked but we're too pricey IMO for the condition or for how much I wanted them. That's ok. Someone else will see them differently. I'll be back again.

We were privileged to be sponsored and invited in to see this place, in order to visit my wife's friend while she was working the bar. This VFW post is very much like your traditional dive bar, at least to the uninitiated like us, but I'm sure it is much more meaningful to its members. There was a friendly comradery throughout, as everyone seemed to know each other, and enjoyed each other's company. They even treated us young dumb tourists from Portland with respect and kindness. Our drinks were strong, cheap, and came with several stories from a motley crew of characters. I felt honored and privileged to be amongst people who fought so hard for our country, and I wish all of them health and good fortune going forward.

I was really excited to donate to Sharia's Closet. I completely believe in their mission and would…read moremuch rather support a local organization doing community work than a place like Goodwill that upells donations for profit. Because of this, I brought in a large donation: six large trash bags of clothes and two grocery bags of shoes and additional clothes, all in excellent, ready-to-wear condition. Unfortunately, the experience when I arrived was disheartening. When I arrived it was unclear where to leave my donations since there were multiple tents set up. They didn't acknowledge me as I was standing there waiting for them to put their phones down. They were entirely focused on taking photos for Instagram. When they finally acknowledged me, I kindly asked for assistance and they very rudely just pointed toward a shopping cart and told me to use that and continued yapping about posting on social media. Mind you, they were just standing there on their phones since I arrived. I needed help lifting the heavy bags since I am petite. It felt dismissive and disrespectful. I left feeling really bummed that this was the "community support" I was met with after going out of my way (from Chula Vista) to bring good quality items. I still have a lot more clothes to donate, but based on this experience, I'll be looking for another organization that is willing to lend a hand when asked instead of being extremely rude and dismissive.
