We were celebrating my husbands 30th birthday and had an awful experience at 4th street bowl so we last minute called goosetown and asked if they could accommodate 60+ people as well as food and decor. The bartender (I forgot his name) said absolutely and he would call in extra staff. This dude worked his ass off to give us a great time. Amazing service and amazing vibes. Karaoke was great. Drinks were great. Prices were also great. Goosetown really took what was about to be a disastrous night for us and turned it around to be one of the best nights of our lives. I have gone to this bar a few times, but each time I am still disappointed. The vibe is just a little too grungy and the customers are a little sketchy. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I have been her so many times and I've never ever experienced the discrimination, discomfort and displacement this place made me feel today. My friend and I walked in ordered a couple of drinks and to ask about karaoke night. The bartender Shawn/Shaun, I hope it wasn't because we were the only Hispanic women in there, wouldn't even acknowledge us. He helped 3 customers before us and still no service. I'm not a dive bar kind of gal, but after coming here - maybe I am! The vibe is so fun. Friendly people, super cheap drinks, karaoke on the weekends. There's zero pretention but also, no sad alcoholic vibes that you might get at other dive bars. If you just want beer, shots, and simple drinks like vodka soda, it's not like drinks are worse here than they are in Santana Row. Also I love Willow Glen, but this place closes the latest, which makes it great! It was completely bustling on a Friday but we were lucky enough to snag a small table in back. Be sure to put your karaoke songs in early! It takes a solid 45 min to 1.5 hours for your song to come on. read more

Nice, chill, and cozy spot to grab drinks and sing with friends. The main concern is if you actually get to sing your song and it doesn't disappear in the queue. I ended up coming here to visit with friends and it was a solid location. I loved the goose decor and cut outs - it felt so whimsical and fun. There are geese everywhere! I couldn't help but admire them. It had such a fun atmosphere and the name was so fitting. I ended up getting a ginger ale and it was delicious and not watered down at all (you'd be surprised how often this happens) and there were a lot of spots to sit at if you're in a big group. Other reviews mentioned how their drinks didn't arrive timely, but this wasn't an issue we experienced, but we also carried all of our drinks back to our table. As for karaoke, the options were extensive and it was really exciting to pick out songs. I did feel like country music does take precedence here (from firsthand experience, people who came after got to sing before I did my first solo and I was there an hour before them), so keep that in mind. It doesn't feel fair, but I guess the DJ is particular about it. Along with that, I was able to do one duet with my sister but no solo. Not even once. People who came after me got their song done quickly, while we waited about 2.5 hours seeing our names pop up as 3rd or 4th and then be bumped all the way back down. I get it if you chose a song and left, but they didn't even try to see if we were there. It wasn't until I left my friends (who stayed out later) ended up texting me my song finally showed up. At this point, it was over three hours and we were gone. Another technical issue that happened that night was the karaoke book online was malfunctioning early on and some of my friends couldn't request a song to sing. They said they closed the book early, but it still was so early that it didn't make much sense. Even walking up to physically sign up was out of the question. Overall I know my friends had a great time besides the missteps but it was less organized and fair than other karaoke nights I've attended. I hope music taste isn't a determining factor for who gets to sing next. read more

It is rare when Gavin has a sleepover so when he was over at my cousin's for a boys' slumber last Tuesday, I took full advantage and made plans w/ Ronnie. My favorite person. He ordered some type of mixed drink (vodka w/ something) and I ordered a shot of vodka. The super sweet bartender asked me what type of vodka, I froze. I had no idea. Ronnie told her to get me Tito's. I didn't need a chaser which I received props for.. (haha). It was a quick visit but it was nice to be out w/o a little person to worry about. Love this place and the bartenders are so amazing! Drinks are always made with care and reasonably priced! Karaoke night is super fun and my friends and I go nearly every weekend. It is really loud just a heads up! And having a decent conversation isn't really a thing. Just sing and have fun!The crowd is older, but still fun! The staff is a blast and they are great singers. DJs do their job. Just be wary of a creepy weird guy with a goatee and man bun that stands near the door wearing all black. He loiters around and acts like he is security there but I have confirmed is NOT!! I think he might be one of the security's friends with nothing better to do and in need of a power trip/insecure or something, so if he gives you a hard time, just ignore him. read more

We don't go out anymore. Why? Cuz our lifestyle is now dedicated to fitness and I sure as hell don't mind that much. BUT, I'm glad we got an invite to the bf's homie's bday celebration here. It's literally down the street from us in Willow Glen and it's pretty much a hidden lil dive bar in the most quiet neighborhood. Major pros: -They have super sociable and cute lady bartenders here. -Drinks are CHEAP. We ordered 1 shot and 2 cocktails for about $20 total! -They have their own version of the Skinnygirl margarita aka the Skinny Margarita which is about 35 calories more than the Skinnygirl. I had 2, they were pretty delicious. -They have karaoke here and the bartenders love singing while they pour you dranks too. And they have decent voices. -The crowd is definitely close to my style...not 100% Asian (which u can find mostly anywhere nowadays) and people are pretty friendly and will come up and say hi to you...yes, even the chicks. Minor cons: -Since it is sort of a dive bar...expect to get hit on by older married men who look like they're either plumbers or construction guys. Ick! Grease monkeys. =/ -Seems like they don't card here because we swore we saw about 3 high school students walk in there and got themselves a drink. PATRONS BEWARE....I went to enjoy some tacos and margarita's on Cinco de Mayo. However, I was told you had to go to this bar next door to get your drinks. The restaurant "Puerto Azul" only serves beer. I used my credit card to purchase ONE margarita on the rocks which was $11, that conniving bartender charged my card for $24. I definitely wouldn't call this a dive bar. This place is more like a neighborhood bar. This is why I really enjoy this place because it's a place to have fun karaoke or just have a couple of drinks with friends on a non-karaoke night. The great thing is that they make their drink pretty well here and you never feel unwelcome here. They would get five stars but the bathrooms that they share with Puerto Azul, the Mexican restaurant next door, are absolutely disgusting. If you are a local, chances are that you already know and love this place. If you're visiting a friend in Willow Glen, this is a great place to toss back a few while catching up. If I had to describe the clientele as a recipe... take 1/2 a cup of Urban Cougar, eight ounces of shark-fan, a quarter jug of normal people, two tablespoons of cap-wearing-elderly-gentleman-with-no-job-but-has-not-told-his-wife-yet, mix in a smatterring of post dot com bubble geeks, two cups of just-about-old-enough-to-drink girls & 1/4 teaspoon of lonely-single-guy. Then cook (*drink*) for ~3 hours at 72DegF. between the marmist and goosetown, i do believe it's a toss up. i think the w.g. is just too family oriented for a down and dirty dive bar. although with that said, i am actually scared of visiting the checkered flag, the only other bar located on the edge of town. fear is usually a good sign that the place will at least be interesting. goosetown on karaoke nights can be a bit painful, with the patrons showboating out-of-key versions of all my favorite patsy cline and neil diamond songs, then we heard no doubt and knew it was time to call it a night. if i never hear that band again, it'll be too soon--some puffy, leather-faced cougar deciding she wants to conjure up gwen stefani is always my cue to exit. besides, i was developing a fantasy in my mind where "just a girl" was that drunk bitch's ACTUAL "swan song" and upon completion she would self-combust and burst into flames. i have been on weeknights and had a better time, the crowd is pretty diverse, and since this is cougar central, i feel that it is probably my duty to report to headquarters from time to time. please elect jessie k. de facto mayor of willow glen. first order of business will be a place to get a decent fancy cocktail, second order of business will be a proper grocery store, because booze always trumps food. read more

As I noted before.. the place has a rather odd split level architecture that places the stage and dance floor and karaoke singer in a sunken corner area separated from the rest of the seating by a waist high counter with just one entrance. The only other thing new I have to add to my previous review of the place is a tip for all the really insane karaoke addicts such as myself. If you are sitting topside and find the early evening Sunday topside crowd response to the earnest karaoke performances down in the sunken area a little too.. uhm sedate for your liking.. Well, just grab your drink and move over to either stand at the counter in front of the pit, or just move down into the pit itself. There you and people like you can make your own little karaoke atmosphere and scream and sing along and carry on as if the sunken stage and dance floor area were the entire club. Eventually, later in the evening, if all goes well.. some of the higher-energy not-so-sedate brand of karaoke enthusiasm will pick up in the rest of the club.. But you don't have to wait for that if you go to the pit. read more

Whether it be Friday or Saturday, this is one of the better places in Santa Clara County to show off your karaoke skills. Goosetown offers a lively, friendly crowd. And trust me, it is a crowd. It can get packed in there since the joint is small. It can get a little cliquey, but for the most part, the crowd is friendly and will dance and sing to anything you do on stage. Well, unless you ruin the party by singing some slow soft rock crap like Jewel, Norah Jones, Nickelback, or Coldplay. So yeah, be ready to bring the rock n' roll fury. The KJ will play upbeat dance music in between for those that just like to dance, so please do not expect to sing a bunch of times. If you get there around 10 or so, you will sing twice. If you come after 1030, you might sing once. And if you come after 11, you most likely won't sing. The karaoke is there to increase alcohol sales. So show up early, get your song(s) in, buy a drink, dance a little, and bring your A-game since there is a small stage and pit for all of your adorning fans to cheer for you. Well, that is if you are lucky enough to have fans. All in all, it's a killer karaoke venue on the weekends, a friendly crowd, a good vibe, reasonably priced "stiff" drinks, and an all-around great time. read more

I didn't know there were any bars on the strip in WG, but apparently there is one. Funny, because I go to Mi Rancho market across the street, but I never noticed Goosetown. Having denied a soiree at "the Row" the previous night, my GF decided that Goose Town was nothing like Sino, so I may like it a bit more. We had some friends that live close, so it all worked out. What's worse than horrible karaoke? Really, really loud horrible karaoke. I must say that there were 5 or 6 exceptional karaokers, but it was so loud, I couldn't carry a conversation. I hate that. The place is pretty small, so it's impossible to avoid the noise unless you go outside, and I quit smoking, so that would suck also. On the positives, gentlemen, there are a lot of eligible ladies at Goosetown. I'd say it was hovering around 66% female most of the night. As you know, in Man Jose, this is a rare occurrence. I have a GF, so I wasn't on the prowl, but single men in the area should check out Goosetown if they want some action. I personally noticed a half-dozen healthy young ladies who were ABSOLUTELY leaving with a random guy. No doubt about it. The drinks are cheap, the 'tenders are friendly, there is no cover, and it's close to my home in WG. Also, there aren't a million cops swarming about. Unfortunately, there is not enough alcohol on this earth to get me singing karaoke, so I don't think I need to come back here on the weekends.
