Called at 4pm for a drain problem and within 2 hours they came, and I have to say I'm impressed by the service. We live in an apartment and luckily they said they do all sorts of drain cleaning for clogs except for trailer parks, and I was thoroughly impressed by the service and speed that they provided. I paid about half of what Roto Rooter quoted me and when Rooter came they didn't even fix the clog even after 2 hours! We had a pipe break in the early evening hours, and I had a very difficult time trying to find anybody to come out to help. When I called Gopher, they answer the phone, and quickly dispatched someone to assist. They arrived within an hour and very quickly fixed our broken pipe. I wish I knew the name of the technician that came out, because he was friendly, pleasant and very informative. He walked us through next steps and gave us suggestions about closing our wall and cleanup. For an emergency visit, at 10 PM, I thought the price was more than fair. I had a clog between the basement washtubs and the floor drain about 5 feet away. He wasn't able to reach the clog in the pipe through the basement so he went through the kitchen sink pipe directly above the washtubs. He went too far with the snake and it came up through the toilet waste pipe and into the toilet tank on the main level of the house. The snake then went through the lid of the toilet tank and broke it. He cleared the clog but destroyed my toilet. They replaced the toilet with a Gerber model GVP38590 toilet (a toilet less than $100). My old toilet was of a higher quality. I am generous in giving 2 stars because he fixed the clog and I got a free toilet. However, I don't think they should have charged me $45 to haul away the old toilet considering it was due to their negligence. read more

This was my second and last time using Gopher Sewer. My first experience was wonderful, and I had an exceptional experience with their team. Recently, I discovered a floor drain backup in my basement and didn't hesitate to schedule an appointment. When their representative first arrived he seemed great, but I quickly noticed red flags. He was overly dramatic throughout the entire process, stating that the job could take hours--before he had even started. While working, he repeatedly mentioned how he was looking for more hours and wanted overtime--not exactly something you want to hear as a paying customer. Fortunately, it didn't take him long to clear the line and get the water flowing. But, the real issue started when he completely mangled the original cap on my cleanout. He damaged it so badly that I have no idea how he thought it would seal. Then, he told me he didn't have the correct parts to fix it, claimed he had no money to go to the store, and left me to figure out how to replace it. I insisted we go together to ensure we found the right part. Then after installing the new cap, it didn't fully seal and was actively leaking. He told me the seal might "resolve itself" in a few days, but his best solution was to jackhammer the floor and replace that section of the pipe--estimating it would cost around $4,000. I called their office to report that the seal was still leaking raw sewage and asked if this was an acceptable way to finish a job. They said the notes stated that the only solution was to rip up the floor and replace the pipe, and also said they would follow up with their supervisor and get back to me. I also reached out directly to Pedro, the owner, and requested he follow up and try using wax or another proper sealing method. He asked me to send photos, and I did, but I never heard back from anyone. After this poor experience, I contacted a different plumber, who immediately resolved the issue--using wax, just as I had suggested. Weeks later, it's still holding up perfectly with no problems. I strongly recommend choosing another company. I will never use Gopher Sewer again. read more

Excellent, prompt service from Pedro, the owner, and his staff member, Cesar. It was a clogged pipe, 1910s (?) plumbing or older, which snaked through a wall and then through an attic crawl space of my parent's ancient house. The pipe had a curious set of elbows, too. Not sure what folks were thinking 110 years ago. It took a number of hours for the Gopher guys to cut and replace the pipe they could access, simplify the elbows, then snake and clear the length that was inaccessible. Short of remodeling the upstairs of the house, it was the best solution! The sink drains so voluminous now that we could divert the entirety of the St. Croix River into it and it wouldn't overflow a drop. Highly recommend Gopher Sewer and Drain. They are efficient, competent, courteous and friendly. Very reasonably priced. They did exactly as they said they would and the job was completed to our satisfaction. read more

I used Gopher Sewer and Drain in the past for main drain cleaning and gave them a 5 star rating. The schedule was set for same day. Price of $249. The tech called to tell me he was on his way, running a little late. Arrived and looked at the main drain access and proceeded to offer different services (camera review, Hydro jet, additional line clearing), etc. I opted for main line only. He had me run water to determine clog location since there was no standing water at this point. Throughout, he mentioned the other services 3 or 4 more times. I said no thank you. He stated he couldn't guarantee the work without the additional service. I said no. The drain was cleaned. He thoroughly vacuumed and wiped the area down. If not for repeated attempts to up-sell this would have been a five star rating. read more

I had a very bad experience - it was Sunday and my main line was backing up. I have a history of this and explained that to Pedro on the first call - roots at 50' from the house. I agreed to the inflated rate ~$350 for the cleaning because it was Sunday. The tech was packing up and said something is wrong (probably on the city side) with your line and would need to charge another $200 to run a camera down. I already know that the city will run a camera for free so had them come out and inspect. The city confirmed what I already knew that there is a root obstruction at 50'. They went on to say that Gopher only removed a small bit and water is still backing up. Talked to Pedro and and his best and only offer was to charge me another $200 to run his camera down the pipe. This is the first and only time I have ever posted a negative review for any company, but the way Pedro handled this was off the charts bad. I will never do business with Pedro again, and you shouldn't either. read more

The good: - initial visit was the next day (on a Sunday) - the technician was honest and recommended that we do a hydro jet, which would be a more permanent solution - solved my issue within two days of reaching out The fine: - $425 for hydro jet of kitchen pipe, seems this is pretty average - initial technician was not trained in/able to do the hydro jet the same day, so we had to wait an additional day (with a clogged sink). The bad: - neither technician wore or offered to wear a mask, despite us being in the worst COVID spike to date - neither technician called before arrival - the first technician was about 30 minutes prior to the scheduled arrival time, the second was like 3.5 hours early (arrived at 8:30AM but window given was 12-2) I was happy they were early, but they told me they would give 30 minutes notice so the first time I wasn't home when he arrived and had to run home quickly. All-in-all, my problem was solved and both technicians were polite and helpful. I'm about 50/50 on using them again, despite the 4/5 rating, given the communication and mask issues. read more
