They showed me on the video monitor where the roots had broken through, and were able to cut them with a chain machine that didn't damage the previous "liner" on the preceding pipe. We have had the Sewer Rat team out to our house before and were extremely pleased with the result. We especially appreciated their down to earth pricing and approach after having a "bigger name" plumber come out and quote us over $15k for redoing our entire system. Our annual main sewer line cleanout was $380 (a fraction of what we've had to pay for emergency services in the past, SUCH a deal) - we live in an area where our pipes are made of clay, so roots grow through the pipes and we need to get them cleared out regularly. We are going through a lot right now - we have an infant, I am postpartum, and our house is a mess right now, but the technician took it in stride and even talked with us about their kids. The work that I eventually had R.T.S.R. do was very solid. The guy that did the work showed up on time for both the initial quote and the actual work. The work that was done was, to my eye, top notch, and I have no complaints at all. The item preventing a five star review is in that I'm not a huge fan of the initial quoting process. I was informed prior to arrival, that there would be a quote fee, and that if I went with the job, that quote fee would be applied to the final job (effectively eliminating the quote fee). I hate it when companies do this, as it feels like I'm being pressured to not seek competing quotes. But I also get it: people don't work for free, and sending someone out takes gas and time that could otherwise be generating revenue. So as much as I don't like it, as I said I get it. What I don't get is that a couple of times the guy that came to do the quote (and eventually did the drain work that I needed done immediately) needed to call a master plumber a couple of times, and for a separate job of galvanized supply pipe replacement, a quote could only be provided in a range without an on-site visit from said master plumber. So that's where I have a bit of a sticking point - if you want to charge for a quote, that's totally fine. But don't send people that can't provide a total quote without being to consult with a master plumber, and can't provide a complete quote for the scope of a job. If you want to send out junior plumbers to handle basic quote work, that's totally fine. But you can't have your cake and eat it too. If you want to send a junior plumber, those quotes should be free, with the paid quote coming when a master plumber has to take a look. I would totally recommend R.T.S.R. to handle any plumbing job, but I really do think their quoting practices need a bit of an examination. read more

I requested a tub drain cleaning, My technician said he would give me a sink and tub cleaning for the same price. Once done with the cleaning we had a major leak from the sink that destroyed our dining room ceiling. They sent the technician back with his supervisor and they put a camera and said the house is old and it probably was a cracked pipe. They said a plumber could come out a week later and give me a quote. At the time he said if it's not a cracked pipe they would be responsible. So I took out the the vanity and the wall it was just a coupling that the cleaner had knocked loose while trying to shove the snake down. I think the reviews speak for themselves! Great experience from start to finish here. We needed a sewer line cleaned ASAP and they were there the very next day (found the clog at 8PM the previous day). Kyle came to our rescue and even let me watch the entire process so that I could learn what he was doing and why. We unfortunately need a sewer line repair as there was a breakage but he was able to provide some great references! The unclogging and sewer scope combined were about $500 total but from what I've been reading online, that's quite reasonable, so I'm happy with the service! Hi. When I contacted Ron the Sewer Rat call center they give you a price, length of sewer line and time it takes. Know that the price is an estimate not a certainty. This is not stated on that initial phone call for an appointment. It is when the technician steps onto the property the "real" price is determined. The first question and statement made by the technician was my sewage stack was in a location in my basement that may mean its more than 100 feet from the street. I may pay more. I live in a 100 year old home in South MPLS it can easily be googled mapped to determined its a standard distance from the street. I also have lived here for 42 years and never had these questions asked before upon receiving this service here in the city. The second statement was it may take more than 1-1/2 hours. Two reasons because of unexpected roots and stuff found and I was asked by the technician how long it had been since my last clean out. This needed to be asked by the initial call center if the length of time since the last clean out was important in terms of price quoted. This time limitation was not described initially by the call center as the limit of time, according to the technician if it takes more than 1-1/2 hours I pay more. Then when I said that I intended to pay $380.00 for my drain clean service for my home that was quoted and no more. That I have lived here for 42 years and have never had these question asked by the technician on site to do this task before. The technician became upset with me because I was upset. The technician played my initial recorded message to the call center in front of me. I guess it was to prove the call center said it was an estimate not a quote. My recorded message the technician played did not prove his point it proved mine. This whole experience strikes me as a scripted sales job. Not a company that makes an assessment of your request and wants to do a job for you at a fair quoted price. I will not be hiring Ron the Sewer Rat again. This is because of the company policy and its communication not because of the job done. I will now know more questions to ask the next time when calling a company to do this job. The technician was just following the script and I assume did a fine job. A job I never would want to do. I just wish the company had more interest in being honest at the beginning phone call when initially making an appointment. I would of appreciated that done at the front end not while the technician was on site.
