We visited this restaurant to celebrate my dad's birthday, and unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing from start to finish. The first thing we noticed upon entering was how hot and humid it was inside. There did not seem to be adequate air conditioning, which made the environment uncomfortable for our entire visit. After being seated, it took approximately 15-20 minutes before anyone came to take our drink and food order. We ordered chips and queso as an appetizer, but after waiting a long time, we realized it had never been brought out. We had to remind our server twice before finally receiving it nearly 30 minutes later. The service continued to be slow throughout the evening. Several members of our party requested drink refills and additional beverages, but many of those requests were either forgotten or never brought to the table. Communication was lacking, and we often felt ignored. To make matters worse, we learned that parties of six or more are automatically charged an 18% gratuity. While we understand that this is the restaurant's policy, it felt very frustrating given the poor service we received. The level of attention and professionalism throughout our visit did not reflect the type of experience that would normally justify such a charge. We also spoke with another staff member regarding our concerns, hoping for some clarification or acknowledgment of the issues we were experiencing. Unfortunately, we did not receive much explanation or reassurance. We are not the type of people who usually leave negative reviews, but we felt it was important to share our experience so that others can make informed decisions. We stopped here for dinner while on vacation in Galveston and were very H happy with what we ordered. The food is authentic Mexican food...so be aware because we saw some real rudeness from some of the customers. I had the ChickenFajita Salad and it was delicious and loaded with chicken much so that had to get a to go box. We went for a light dinner and sat at a window booth for the view. Mexican soap operas were blaring loudly from all televisions, which I thought bothersome. This medican restaurant is on the seawall. We came for brekkie on Saturday and the place was pretty busy with lots of customers today. Even with the music playing it still wasn't overly noisy. First time first experience. Located on seawall heading to East beach. Parking was a challenge (good indicator for me). We parked along the seawall 2$/hour (across street). There was refried beans were amazing and tasted homemade on the bottom of plate as a bed of goodness. Sooooo delicious! The jalapeño were great also. The chicken was grilled and juicy. First of all I'm not a fan of this place. Here's why, Short highlights of my review... Food is decent. Not bad. Service is horrible. Long review version..... I've been here several times over the years. I was a fan at one time. They seem to be getting worse over the years. Went in here the other day with a party of 7. They took a while to seat us. Not a problem. Once we were seated they brought us chips and salsa, they took our order. So we finished the chips and salsa. We flagged our waitress down and asked for some more. A good fifteen minutes passes, no chips and salsa. Finally our order makes it out. Once we get our food we remind again that we'd please like more chips and salsa. Again, we're our good way through our meal and nothing. Finally one of us gets up and goes to the front and asks for chips and salsa, we get our stuff and we bring it back to our table. Waitress comes back to check on us a while after that, we ask for to go boxes. Another good ten or fifteen minutes, nothing. We flag our waitress down again. She comes over, we ask for to go boxes again, and some to go cups. She finally goes and brings it over. Yes this happened on a Sunday evening. Were they very busy? Surprisingly, no not really. If I could see them being short staffed and what not, and tons of people, I'd completely understand. But that wasn't the case. Another thing to keep in mind when you go eat here. They always have music playing very I mean VERY loud. Makes it difficult to talk with people seated at your table with you. The food isn't bad. It's just the bad service and overly loud music makes other Mexican restaurants on the island far more appealing. Extra notes.....party of 7, if your six or more tip is automatically included of course. Unfortunate considering the bad service. Maybe the large party made them not want to work for that tip since they were getting it anyway. Trust me, I grew up in Galveston and to this day I'm down their all the time. Gorditas Mexico is a authentic Mexican resto which was a great place to stop in Galveston. Right near the beach, it is in a great location which probably gets quite busy during the high season. When we arrived, we were greeting with some fresh tortillas and salsa verde and rojo, and got a top up as well when those were done. We got there a bit before Happy Hour, which serves beer at about $3.00 each. Beer was still quite reasonable for $3.99 each. However they didn't serve any other liquor options as Margaritas you would naturally expect at a Mexican bar. The food offerings are plantiful, with a variety of enchiladas, tacos and many more. O had the enchiladas, which has freshly grilled chicken, retired beans and salad. There was quite a bit and we actually had enough for leftovers. Most options are under $10, and the bill was fairly reasonable for the 6 of us (about $80.00 before tip). The service was ok, fairly quick and attentive, I only would have asked for some hot sauce to kick up some of the blandness the food.
