Love this place! I've been a member at several facilities over the last 20+ years and this is definitely one of the best. The staff is inviting and helpful. You can get set up to use their fitness app which builds workouts for you based on your previous workouts. They don't push expensive personal training programs like other gyms do. They do have it available if that's your thing. They always have staff available to help you if you're not sure where to find or how to use a piece of equipment. It's family-friendly which is great for the most part. There are also a lot of non-fitness activities they offer for free or really low-cost. They are more expensive than some other gyms, but you can get more out of your membership than you will at most gyms. read more

Tha facility is new and nice and i would give 10 stars if they would have fixed the showers in the gender neutral locker rooms that are typically used for parents with small children as well as those with disabilities and their caretakers. I have reached out to management as well as the corporate office about fixing the showers in the gender neutral locker rooms. It has been a whole entire year of me urging someone to address the issue. It has become quite clear to me that just like the rest of american culture the Gordon family ymca does not care to address the needs of mothers with young children or the handicapped. These are the people that use these bathrooms. How am i supposed to hold my squirmy and slippery 14 month old and successfully take a shower with him after the pool when the shower head is hanging down by my feet like a wet noodle? We really loved this Y BUT we are disappointed with how ridiculously BUSY it is! We left as the cost didn't outweigh the benefit. Having childcare is nice. The indoor lap track is great and the pool is a really nice feature. However, good luck at ever enjoying the pool--- I don't think I have ever seen it NOT completely packed. ** We finally did sign my son up for swim lessons and 3/5 lessons the pool was evacuated for kids POOPING!! One time there was a massive brown cloud from a kid that had diarrhea! They cleared the pool for an hour or two and then sent people back in!! OMG!! The lifeguard said the pooping is a daily occurrence! Seriously people PUT A SWIM DIAPER ON YOUR KIDS. And who brings a kid to the pool who has diarrhea? Disgusting!! I DO NOT understand why the staff does not enforce swim diapers and put signs up that no one with diarrhea the last 24hours is allowed in the pool!! This completely ruined it for us and I have never stepped foot in that pool and we did no more swim lessons. Unless you work out between 1-3pm this place is JAM PACKED ALL THE TIME!!! I've tried every hour and this seems to be the only reasonable time. That said, it's still pretty busy. I've been really frustrated because there are many times that I cannot use the equipment I need and it's not unusual to see nearly every single cardio machine in use. Classes are nice BUT we went to register our son for swim lessons just THREE hours after registration was open and EVERY. SINGLE. swimming class was filled and the majority of the others. The only thing we could get into is a day art class that we had to pay extra for. That's how we rationalized spending so much money for a membership. I really wish they would consider limiting the number of memberships they sell so that the families who are ALREADY paying $160 to work out here can actually use the equipment. Also, if you're looking for a personal trainer, I would NOT suggest this place. The trainers are tiny or out of shape and don't look like they've worked out a day in their life. Find an online workout or go to a gym where the trainers actually look the part. I feel bad giving a bad review because I love the YMCAs mission and this is a nice place but geesh it is NUTS in here!!!! read more

Just moved back into the Bonney lake area. I've heard great things about this gym so I figured I would check it out. The blonde with short hair who was soooo helpful. She was rude and had a snobby attitude. After going over the over priced options i decided to go back to LA fitness. They may have a fancy facility but 87 a month is absurd. If your going to charge so much money maybe you should train your staff to be a little more friendly and respectful. Enjoy throwing your money away at this place people. read more

I have been going to this Y for many years. I mostly visit the aquatic section... unfortunately I was NOT impressed. Most of the staff look like they are in constant misery and I don't blame them because they have been stuck in the same spot FOREVER!! Pool rules are never the same with each lifeguard, which makes hard for me and me kids to go there without getting in trouble for at least one thing when we are just trying to enjoy family time together. There are several lifeguards I enjoy interacting with, and appreciate how dedicated they are to our safety and making sure we have a great time every time we come. I hope someone can hold ALL staff to these standards and management has a better handle on their professionalism. read more

LOUSY customer service. They should take am example from gig harbor. I bought my granddaughter a membership specifically for swim lessons. She was accidentally signed up for weekday lessons. I've been a member at Gordon Family YMCA since it opened a couple years ago. And obviously it hasn't been bad enough to make me switch gyms. I've seen two New Years come and go, always bringing in the "resolutioners", which never gets TOO bad if you know what time of the day to go. With that being said, this gym is consistently busy, but I won't complain because I think everyone should try to be healthier The pool is a nice feature, my daughter and I have only been a couple of times but it's fun and seems clean enough. I have one naggy bit I want to share, the equipment is not very clean. They do a good job of providing disinfectant spray and towels so that people can clean the equipment themselves, but that's really for touch points. (And let's be honest, not everyone uses those after they are done using the machines) Overall, it's a good gym. read more

Was a great and friendly place to go. We have a family membership and I love it. There is a lot of classes for the little one to do. Great place to even do some work while the kids are in class or on the playgrounds. Swinging pools are really nice and great for kids. Both saunas are well maintained. The Gordon YMCA is the newest facility that I know of in our area, and has a lot of great amenities for the whole family. The Y is definitely geared towards community and family, and there are a lot of overlapping fitness related activities & events available to patrons. I've been going to local gyms for the better part of two decades; my perspective of the Gordon Y is framed through the lense of someone who primarily wants to hit the weights and do some cardio on a typical day... I imagine if you are a busy parent looking to maintain a certain level of fitness and health, or if you are looking to keep your kids occupied in family friendly, wholesome activities - this is a great place & you will really enjoy it at the Y. There are a lot of options for family fun in the giant pool, which is supervised by lifeguards; there are dedicated play areas for kids which are supervised if you want to take off and get a focused work out in; you can walk the indoor track with your kids, and I have even seen some moms sit their babies in a stroller while they circuit from weight machine to weight machine. There are a lot of summer camp activities, a handful of basketball courts, and you can even reserve some of their extra rooms for birthday parties. However; if you are like me and just want a place to lift weights and run - this may or may not be your cup of tea. I am still on the fence myself. Despite the enormous square footage of the facilities, I think to myself on a daily basis "It is really crowded in here". I often pine for the days when I was a member at LA Fitness because of their variety and options with regards to free weights and machines. The Gordon Y has only two benches for standard bench press, one incline bench and one decline bench compared to the LA Fitness facilities which have around double the benches (4 standard, 2 incline, 2 decline) available. I miss having access to Hammer Strength machines that other gyms typically keep in their weight rooms. The Gordon Y has two bench press machines available, but no incline machines or decline machines. There is only one leg press sled compared to 4 at LA Fitness and 2 at North Hill Fitness. There are two seated calf extension machines, but no seated calf raise machines or standing calf raise machines like you would get in other gyms. The list of desired equipment goes on and on for me. I do believe that the Gordon Y has hands down the best selection of cardio equipment in our area. Tons of ellipticals, treadmills, stair climbers, rowing machines etc. Not only does the Gordon Y have more cardio machines than LA Fitness, North Hill Fitness, Planet Fitness etc.; it has a lot more variety and a lot of machines that I have never seen in a gym before. I love the indoor track as well; the only drawback to the cardio options at the Gordon Y would be that there are often small children on the indoor track inattentively running zig zag across the designated walk/jog/run lines. There are also sporadic groups of people glued to their phones walking in a horizontal single-file across the walk/jog/run lanes. Ultimately, I think the indoor track is one of the best features of the gym. I love seeing the community aspect in action, you'll see those 70-80 year olds walking the track & still getting in there and working out while simultaneously seeing the new generations running wildly about. I don't fully understand why the Gordon YMCA selected the layout of their equipment in its current state. On a daily basis, I will identify the free weight/pulley/or machine that I want to use; multiple times throughout my workouts the machine closest to me will be utilized by someone else. The layout of the gym forces you to go from downstairs to upstairs to back downstairs pretty frequently. For example, instead of placing same/similar muscle group machines in close proximity, you may find option #1 for a fly machine downstairs, option #2 upstairs at the western-most point of the gym and option #3 at upstairs at the eastern-most point of the gym. I recommend putting all your same/similar machines nearby one another (e.g.; bench press machines side by side, next to fly machines or leg extension machines clustered together in close proximity to leg curl machines). Since I don't use a lot of the offerings above and beyond the weights and cardio equipment, I am slightly irked that the cost of membership is significantly higher than the competition (LA Fitness was hovering around $32/month compared to $60/month at the Y). If you are in to using the rock wall, TRX classes, aquatic exercises, regularly then you may feel like you are getting your monies worth. Only using the weights and cardio equipment while finding myself frustrated at the lack of equipment makes me feel like I am over paying. Great family environment, not enough weight equipment, lots of options, membership fees too high. read more

Horrible gym if you are a younger person who wants to work out seriously. This gym has more old people than an adult family home, and on top of that none of the old people use the equipment correctly. Plus they have 3 basketball courts but are never open in the morning because they use all of the courts for pickle ball which only old people use and they don't even stay for the whole time. Over all they have good equipment and it's well organized but I've been to a lot of gyms and this place can't handle how many old people are here and how many kids like to run around and try and use the equipment as well because parents think it's okay even though the gym has a kids gym. Let me start my saying that this is a beautiful building and it is well maintained. The staff are friendly and helpful. This gym is simply too packed. I just literally had to leave because there wasn't a single bench, cable machine or step to use as a bench in a pinch. Not one, upstairs or downstairs. I even waited a bit to see if one would come available but there were several groups cycling on each machine so I couldn't get in. Sad because this gym is close to my house but I need to switch, just plain too crowded. Maybe commit to fewer memberships? Not sure how to solve this. I was here at opening at 4:30am last week and it wasn't this crowded but still surprisingly full. Only thing I know is I need to go somewhere else so I can actually get in a workout. read more

A great facility and most welcomed addition to the Sumner/Bonney Lake area. It is state of the art when it comes to physical equipment but unfortunately totally mismanaged. Prior to it's opening I had attempted on a number of occasions to make contact with the local executive director as I not only wanted to join, but had a number of questions and was interested in donating a few dollars which might have helped some other folks. Apparently her email messages must have been overloaded as I never heard back from her. And then there's the big gun, the Pierce & Kitsap Counties Executive Director whose big claim to fame was no longer accepting the SilverSneakers program for older adults. Interesting to note quite a few of the "elderly folks" who also were financial donors, have taken fitness membership elsewhere in the community. And now, to add insult to injury so to speak, on occasion due to my schedule, I would join the "early bird members" that arrive anywhere from 4:30 am to 7:00 am and was recently apprised that the two morning ladies working the entry counter have resigned! And through no fault of their own but apparently only due to the lack of management appreciation for the job they were doing and being told that they needed to show improvement? Specifically I am referring to Crystel and Jennifer, both of whom where truly "the face of the Gordon Family YMCA" as they always smiled, were helpful, gracious, kind and knew so many of us on a first name basis. If there were ever anyone that embodied and instilled the Christian values of the Gordon Family YMCA, it was these two. They treated everyone with respect regardless of ethnicity, age or occupation. From the homeless who just wanted a hot shower to the police officer that had a meeting with other officers but did not feel he should have to show his identification, they did their jobs and did them extremely well. It is interesting to note that if you look at the Gordon Family YMCA website, there are approximately two dozen managers or people of importance. None of which are either of the ladies that greeted us in the morning and initially sold us on joining. Even more interesting is that of these managers / people of importance, I have not only never met any of them but apparently nary a one of them shows up to work until later in the morning. The management or lack thereof is readily seen as apparently no one stays employed for any length of time as there is constant change of faces. Not to mention but I will, that on a number of occasions there has been no attendant on the second floor. The place is a travesty and the Gordon Family truly deserves more. read more

Favorite place to go to work out. The people that work there are super kind. The health and wellbeing coaches are good. I have had successful tips and help from them. As a YMCA member, I had been going here for several months without too many problems. As far as these go, there were gas-guzzling SUV's and pick-ups always hogging the "fuel-efficient vehicle" spaces, without any sort of enforcement to these parking spots. So why even have them...? Well, not that big of a deal I guess. As well, the gym, despite being enormous, is frequently crowded. Particularly the free weight area. Still, I cannot complain too much, the facility is pretty nice and well taken care of. What irritated me enough to write this review is the fact that the facility decided to cut its ties with Healthways without any explanation. Effectively, all of the Prime members that went to the Gordon Family YMCA lost their membership because the higher-ups were not able to negotiate. You could not even believe how much of a HUGE inconvenience this has been, it is absolutely ridiculous. There are plenty of other gyms that use the Prime benefit. For this reason, I will be going elsewhere. read more
