For starters, the Green Gables and the Charm Motel are the same owners, but major differences. The last at the front desk was nice. We had room 162 with 2 beds. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable. One of the beds basically blocked the bathroom door. The bathroom had a very small shelf for one persons toiletries. As another reviewer said, they should update their lights on the bed stand to have USB ports to plug phones and accessories. If you're looking for a place to lay your head and visit the area as we were, it's a good place. But knowing what I know now, I would choose the Charm Motel next door. Rooms are bigger. Both properties were quite and clean. Other than that they are pretty much the same. Like I said, they are the same owners. read more

Mixed feelings about my stay here for ten days for work. Rooms were exceptionally clean upon my arrival. However, housekeeping only cleans once a week and only changes out towels and garbage. They don't bother to sweep the dirt off the floors that I brought in from working in the field. King size bed was comfy. I stayed in room 157 and the heater vent rattled every time the heat kicked on. It took forever to get hot water in the sink and shower. The shower knob rotated and never stopped so you never knew where hot was and had to wait about ten minutes for it to get warm. TV remote worked except for the volume controls. The two women that worked in the mornings were super friendly and very sociable. They were a pleasure to do business with. However, the night person (Corina) was very condescending to me when I had an issue with my credit card and needed to do a charge back and use a different card. I'm sorry that you had to actually do some work and help out a guest who was confused by your actions. She needs to learn that, "The customer is not always right but he is always the customer." A suggestion to the owners is to add some USB outlets or clocks with a USB port so guests can charge their devices. read more

To begin there is not much in Burney as far as hotels and dining. Theses rooms look very cute, but very, very small. The front porch needs to be swept or use a leaf blower. The room had 2 beds and one practically blocked the bathroom door. The worst part of beds was they have metal around the box springs that makes a terrible loud noise whenever you move on the beds. The bathroom only had a tiny shelf to put your items on unless they fit in a medicine cabinet. The bathroom was made for short people. The sink was so low I was practically doubled in half to wash my face. The shower was just a stall. The faucets were not marked hot or cold. The shower head was eye level so I couldn't was my hair I. It. The stall allowed very little room to turn around. Next time I'm in Burney I will try another place. read more

I stayed here Friday and Saturday night with a friend. We were visiting family and friends for a birthday party. It was a cute, clean and comfortable room with two queen beds. There were plenty of towels. The bathroom was very clean and no problems with the water temperature so I had nice warm to hot showers, which I appreciate very much. I think this is a nice motel. I stay here about once a year and I have never had a problem. The ladies working the front desk are always polite. My friend's parents stayed at Charm Motel and they loved it. They stay there often, so they are recognized by the motel's team. Charm Motel is also part of Green Gables. The price was reasonable, My friend usually makes the reservation and we split the cost. The remote's batteries I think needed to be replaced. We brought it up to the front desk and when we returned from our Saturday's activities, it was taken care of. I appreciated their attentiveness. Overall this was a pleasant and comfortable visit at a clean motel. This has been our go to for our Burney visits. My friend, her parents and I will definitely be back. read more

Such a convenient location! Just off the highway, minutes from Burney Falls, across the street from Burney Bowl, next to McDonald's and Rite Aid. We ven saw elk when we were driving! Charming vintage architecture, with gables and porches. Definitely takes you to another era, in a good way. Most impressive, is their focus on being environmentally aware. Green Gables is part of the Green Hotels Association. Green Gables Motel Suites is very "green" indeed! Great value! We would stay here again! read more

This was the sweetest find. We came from IN to do the national park loop. My husband hunted and hunted for a place to rest after a long day. There aren't many places in Burney but so glad we picked Green Gables. This is not a rating based on the big hotels. This is based on small town motels. Usually mom and pop inns. Our 4 star is only because it's older. So no negatives for this little find. Our room had been fully updated with vinyl flooring, updated bathroom, comfortable beds and pillows (which big hotels could do better on!). A sweet little kitchen. We had a restful night! I do lots of hotels Mabey 7 months out of the year I stay in hotels. I always do Marriott personally there the best high quality and great service and super clean I like it better than Hilton. For $130 a night you really can't expect much more. Our room was recently renovated with new looking paint, baseboards, hard wood floors, beds were comfortable, and it was pretty clean. The only mishap we had was the shower temperature changed suddenly & my boyfriend got burned by hot hot water. Otherwise all went well with our stay. The pictures on their website are definitely much better than in person. The woman who checked us in was so unpleasant and clearly did not want to be there. We were excited about the continental breakfast, but due to the pandemic they temporarily discontinued it. I really wish they would've posted that on their website, but they didn't. Not clean, hair was in the shower, floors were dirty, even the "Do not Disturb" sign was so disgusting. We didn't even want to touch it. The remote control was rarely cleaned....filthy. The bathroom was huge, but the shower had no light and it was so narrow - the shower head was awkwardly positioned due to the narrowness of the shower. Not well designed or thought through since the bathroom was BIG....too big!! Curtains did not block completely out the light....it was hard to sleep b/c of the outdoor lights and sun that peeked through the sides of the window. They also had a strangely huge walk-in closet, also with no light inside. Couldn't see anything once the sun sets. They did not utilize the tons of space they had. They chose to have a pedestal sink in the bathroom and a small shelf. WHY??!! Yet, there was tons of space for them to put in a small table or even a normal bathroom sink with some counter space. There was no counter space to put our personal toiletry items. They clearly did not think about how they could effectively utilize all that space....it just went totally wasted. In a small town of perpetual wood smoke, this hotel turned out to be excellent. The rooms here are bungalow/suites, ours having 2 rooms and a kitchen. Each room had a heater, ceiling fan, and led tv(led!). The restroom is clean, with good natural soap and a strong hair dryer. The beds are well prepared.during our visit. Living room had yet another led tv, a couch and two recliners. The suite had its own water heater and gave very hot water when demanded. There are things that worked but weren't installed correctly - the shower head pointed to the left for one. The breakfast was rudimentary with packaged danish, oj, and cereal, but if that's too little for you, Safeway is only a block down and you have a kitchen/microwave. All this for 140 dollars. Good deal. I'm not sure when or why anyone'd stay in burney more than once, although Burney is close to lassen and Burney falls, but I'd definitely recommend this place to friends if they are in town. read more

We stayed here for one night, or literally about 10 hours. We arrived late, when we called earlier in the day to let them know we would be arriving past their closing time of 10pm, the lady my mom spoke to said they would leave the room key under the mat. When we arrived it wasn't there, so my mom had to call the after hours number and the lady said she was on her way, she arrived no more than 5 min later to let us in and gave us a key. The room was spacious. $204 for a living room, kitchen, updated bathroom, 2 bdrm- 1 king bed and the other room had a full size bed and a twin bed. The bed was comfortable. I did find hairs that weren't ours (I inspect the beds we stay on before laying in them). 3 adults and 3 kids, room was very spacious. The couch and recliners though were so outdated and looked so old and kinda dirty looking, one of the recliners had a hole in the arm rest. It was the only room that could accommodate us. I even brought along a portable bassinet for my 1 month old and there was enough room for that in the bedroom. read more

For those of you looking for a relaxing, rustic lodge feel at a decent price, this is your place. I travel a lot for work and Green Gables is such a relief from the Motel 6s and Holiday Inns. Its unique and comfortable, especially for those looking to escape city life and explore the surrounding forests. The rooms are small but come with a microwave, mini fridge, and Dish network. Don't let the technology distract you though; the cabin stylings of the room also appeal to those who are looking to unplug for a while. Large beds and bathrooms provide an extra level of comfort. They are also very clean and welcoming. A small patio with 2 lawn chairs are in front of each room. Tall pines surround the property. A/C is included. Burney has a few good restaurants as well, and there's even one across the street. Green Gables is very safe too. When you walk in to the office you'll notice that they have many cameras around the property, which can ease your mind. Continental breakfast provided at 6 AM. High speed Wi-Fi as well, for those who are here on business. I would certainly recommend this to anyone passing through the area and looking for a place to stay along Route 299. read more

Green Gables is a very charming and quaint motel, in a beautiful setting. They are very reasonably priced and if you are a veteran or in the military and ask, they will give you a veterans/military discount. Check in was easy and the room was exceptionally clean and updated. The only reason that I am giving it 3 stars, is because it was the hardest bed we had ever, ever slept in! So hard, that it was painful! Maybe if we were in our 30s and not in our 50s, it wouldn't have mattered, but our old bodies didn't fare well with that "firm" of mattress! read more

We have stayed at Green Gables several times over the years. It is SO refreshing to experience a "moment from the past" with friendly, caring staff, retro style, very clean rooms, and friendly visitors to share their "fish that got away" stories. The town of Burney is also a welcome change from shopping malls and chain restaurants. This trip, my husband had left a hearing aid, which we didn't realize, until we were 100 miles down the road. On a whim, we called the front desk, and amazingly, it had been found in the linens by the cleaning staff and turned in. They mailed it right away, so what could have been a very costly mistake was prevented. We are so grateful for their efficiency and personal assistance! read more

In order to connect to their wifi they try to force you to check in on Facebook, so you cannot do anything until your Facebook is logged in and you have the option to check in or skip. The problem with that is that within 12 hours my Facebook account was accessed by a Russian hacker from St Petersburg. Not a fan of their log in or their security. Well, there aren't that many places to stay here in Burney. Now this is a good place to stay and probably the best for the money. You are not staying at a best western or a big chain here so don't expect a huge room with all the luxury. The place was as clean as it gets. No funky old, smoke, cleaner or mold smells. The bathroom was very clean with no mildew odors as you get with older places. My grandmother and I stayed 2 nights here and it was pleasant. There was a fridge, coffee maker, ac for summer and cable t.v. As far as the room goes, we had 2 double beds that were comfy with extra pillows and blankets. The room is a bit tight. Wall-6"-bed-nightstand-bed-10"-bathroom and that's it. It also had a suitcase area with a closet rod for hanging clothes. We did not indulge in the continental breakfast that was offered between 7-10am but the selection looked ok. We went to some of the local restaurants for our fare. I would stay here again if it was just me and another person. I did not see the larger rooms to compare so this place is good to have a place to sleep with everything else to do around here you will enjoy just having a place to sleep. read more

The front desk woman and the woman who came to check out the overwhelming smell of burnt popcorn/food were very nice. Found out that the heating/cooling is central, hence the nasty smell of food burned. Plus we were in the last room on the end/corner. We were unfortunately next to people who had a diesel truck that came and went multiple times during the evening and early in the am leaving his truck running with the fumes being sucked into our room. This motel just recently renovated. We got the family suite room 33 - spacious enough for my family (there being 2x adults, 1x child and 1x baby). There was only 1x air conditioning unit located in the living room, which made a slight problem at night. Even though every room had a ceiling fan, the children's room remained blazing hot at about 85 or so degrees. This made it a burden for our kids to sleep in their room. At the very least, the main office provided us with an additional fan for the remainder of our stay in the motel. The Tub in the bathroom had remnants of other people's hair along the drain, but other than that, we have no complaints! For the price of the rooms, the service was excellent and our stay was well worth every penny. read more

This was a horrible place to make reservations. First I had been warned by a friend that their Ipad was stolen durring cleaning and the hotel shrugged their shoulders with a sorry there's no proof. Then when I showed up in went to shower and pubic hairs were all over the shower. So it prompt me to investigate the rest of the room. My towels, bed, and pillows all had hairs in them. I went and bought my own linens and proceeded to make dinner. But when there was food still on my plate from the last guest I gave up. Packed my stuff at 10pm and drove to Redding to stay an 1hr 1/2 away. read more

Motel in small town... don't expect much... But it's worse than your expectation... it's run down a bit as of April 2010. Ignorant cleaning staffs... never replaced the towels consistently. Needed frequent reminders on missing items. Cleaned only if they could see the filth. Discarded my items (left out by accident) and not the obvious trash on the counter. Actually it's quite typical on many poorly run motels across the west coast. It's gorgeous to have beautiful pine cones all over the ground... the new and the crushed ones. There was no way to escape it. I tracked some under my shoes to the room and stepped on them on the carpet later by accident. It's like a sharp knife... and it's very painful. Luckily my reflex kicked in before puncture. Worst of all.. free WiFi is only 1MB/s... expect what you canNOT do with this speed. Even a hare can move faster. It's not cheap either. The good part was the healthy snacks at "continent" breakfast... good selections of herbal teas, V8 drinks, juice boxes, fruit cups, and granola bars. Beware! The same owner runs motels next door... My husband and I took what was supposed to be a two day stay to Burney Falls. We have two small dogs and because Green Gables is "pet friendly " we made reservations for two nights knowing we would pay extra for the dogs when we got there. The room was small and on a scale of 1 to 10 for cleanliness I would rate it a 7. When webchecked in we were told there was a $200 charge if dog hairs were found on the bed. Although we did not let the dogs on the bed, it was still stressful because one of our dogs is a jumper. We did not want to have to keep them in the cage the whole time we were in the room. We were coping with it but that night was the WORSE night I have ever had while staying in a motel. The bed was horrible and the room was hot. We checked out early the next morning after loading the car. The manager stated she would give us a different room but we were already loaded up! She said, "well I cannot give you a refund." Although we paid a total of $200 plus for the room, it had been such a miserable night that all we wanted to do was go home! Why didn't we get a room with a comfortable bed to start with??? The best part of the stay was the steak house across the street from Green Gables. Food and service were top notch! Almost made the 10 hour round trip worth it! read more

I grew upon Route 66 in Texas. We lived right across the highway from 3 motels. The GGM reminded me of my youth, just a nice clean and convenient place to spend the night. Chairs on your own little porch for relaxing. They even have gas BarBQs for guest to use. If you want luxury, this isn't the place for you. read more

Whenever we are in Burney we stay at the Green Gables Motel & Suites. Normally, we have a very pleasant experience, but our stay on 8/22/19 was not the case. The room we were given (158) had a very strong smell of urine inside the room. We immediately reported the matter to the front desk clerk, but instead of being accommodated with a different room for no extra charge, we were told we needed to pay an upgrade fee for basically the same room at the Charm Motel, which is the same property, adjacent to the Green Gables. Being that the other hotels in the area were booked full and we were in need of the room, I reluctantly paid for the "upgrade" from the Green Gables to the Charm for the exact same room type. With this type of customer service, I cannot see myself staying at this property again. I'm left with the feeling of having been baited and switched upon. read more

My parents enjoyed sitting out in the little porch out front catching the breeze and admiring the view of their gorgeous pines. The room we booked fit 6 of us comfortably and there was even a little kitchenette for those on a budget. Everything seemed vintage and well cared for. I apparently liked it so much I left a whole bag of clothes & beloved books accidently behind and they promptly mailed me my things. The staff was friendly the only complaint I would have is that a little before 9am the housekeepers are knocking on your door asking if you are going to want your room clean.
