    Charming 40's architecture!
    Rene H.

Such a convenient location! Just off the highway, minutes from Burney Falls, across the street from Burney Bowl, next to McDonald's and Rite Aid. We ven saw elk when we were driving! Charming vintage architecture, with gables and porches. Definitely takes you to another era, in a good way. Most impressive, is their focus on being environmentally aware. Green Gables is part of the Green Hotels Association. Green Gables Motel Suites is very "green" indeed! Great value! We would stay here again!

    Mmmm, delicious crumbs!
    Rachel H.

In a word, yuck. Enough crumbs to make a picnic in between the bed and nightstand (I took a photo for if you guys don't believe me) and a nice curly pube to greet me, sitting on the table. I've only just entered the room. I hope it doesn't get any worse.

Filthy remote. I had to use a Lysol wipe....gross.

The pictures on their website are definitely much better than in person. The woman who checked us in was so unpleasant and clearly did not want to be there. We were excited about the continental breakfast, but due to the pandemic they temporarily discontinued it. I really wish they would've posted that on their website, but they didn't. Not clean, hair was in the shower, floors were dirty, even the "Do not Disturb" sign was so disgusting. We didn't even want to touch it. The remote control was rarely cleaned....filthy. The bathroom was huge, but the shower had no light and it was so narrow - the shower head was awkwardly positioned due to the narrowness of the shower. Not well designed or thought through since the bathroom was BIG....too big!! Curtains did not block completely out the light....it was hard to sleep b/c of the outdoor lights and sun that peeked through the sides of the window. They also had a strangely huge walk-in closet, also with no light inside. Couldn't see anything once the sun sets. They did not utilize the tons of space they had. They chose to have a pedestal sink in the bathroom and a small shelf. WHY??!! Yet, there was tons of space for them to put in a small table or even a normal bathroom sink with some counter space. There was no counter space to put our personal toiletry items. They clearly did not think about how they could effectively utilize all that space....it just went totally wasted. Gave an extra star for the location and distance to Burney Falls.

One of the rooms- twin bed and full bed.

We stayed here for one night, or literally about 10 hours. We arrived late, when we called earlier in the day to let them know we would be arriving past their closing time of 10pm, the lady my mom spoke to said they would leave the room key under the mat. When we arrived it wasn't there, so my mom had to call the after hours number and the lady said she was on her way, she arrived no more than 5 min later to let us in and gave us a key. The room was spacious. $204 for a living room, kitchen, updated bathroom, 2 bdrm- 1 king bed and the other room had a full size bed and a twin bed. The bed was comfortable. I did find hairs that weren't ours (I inspect the beds we stay on before laying in them). 3 adults and 3 kids, room was very spacious. The couch and recliners though were so outdated and looked so old and kinda dirty looking, one of the recliners had a hole in the arm rest. It was the only room that could accommodate us. I even brought along a portable bassinet for my 1 month old and there was enough room for that in the bedroom.

Very relaxed and rustic setting. A perfect stay for those on the road, or those looking to explore the surrounding areas.

For those of you looking for a relaxing, rustic lodge feel at a decent price, this is your place. I travel a lot for work and Green Gables is such a relief from the Motel 6s and Holiday Inns. Its unique and comfortable, especially for those looking to escape city life and explore the surrounding forests. The rooms are small but come with a microwave, mini fridge, and Dish network. Don't let the technology distract you though; the cabin stylings of the room also appeal to those who are looking to unplug for a while. Large beds and bathrooms provide an extra level of comfort. They are also very clean and welcoming. A small patio with 2 lawn chairs are in front of each room. Tall pines surround the property. A/C is included. Burney has a few good restaurants as well, and there's even one across the street. Green Gables is very safe too. When you walk in to the office you'll notice that they have many cameras around the property, which can ease your mind. Continental breakfast provided at 6 AM. High speed Wi-Fi as well, for those who are here on business. I would certainly recommend this to anyone passing through the area and looking for a place to stay along Route 299.

They were having technical problems at the front desk at checkin so it took a few minutes longer, which is ok, things happen, but I had to ask about coffee in the morning and was assured there was but no details. Our room was upstairs and had a really weird minty perfume smell that was really strong like they were trying to cover some other smell? The room itself was mostly clean, and the bed was comfortable enough. The bathroom had a shower and tub and were mostly clean. There is a small refrigerator and microwave. There were also some small bbq's for grilling your own dinner if wanted and a small area with picnic tables. However, the office was not open when we got up before we left, so no coffee for us except the little coffee maker in the room with some no name coffee. For $150 a night in a motel that is not very modern, I would at least expect some coffee and pastries in the morning. For the price I would not stay here again. Apparently the sister motel Green Gables has been renovated and may be a better choice if you truly want a place to stay in Burney proper.

The check in was quick, the office smelled like fresh cigarettes. We felt our room wasn't bad except for the stained sheets that were suspect. They smelled clean and it was late so we turned them around and covered up the spot to feel better. The bed and pillows were not very comfortable and I was glad I brought my own pillow from home. The room was small, but the bathroom was a large size, and the room looked recently remodeled, was clean. All in all I wouldn't say not to stay here if you're ok with basic. The stained sheets need to go though!

Got into town very late and it was the only room available and personally, I would have been better off sleeping in my truck! Upon arriving the owner was hospitable and friendly but that is the only positive thing I can say about this establishment. I rented the room for 3 nights and was forced to pay cash up front because he did not have the use of a credit card machine despite the advertisement of acceptable forms of payment displayed on his office window. The room was $120 a night to include a $20 key deposit. Upon entering the room, I was shown how to unplug the air conditioner and plug it into the surge protector. The owner told me that it may blow a fuse and how to reset it should it occur. I was given two very used and ragged towels that had old glue and staples in them. The carpets were visually soiled and I would not recommend walking on them without having shoes on. There was an incredible stench in the room. The bathroom was filthy, had mildew in the tiles and lacked any complimentary toiletries. The bathroom window had broken blinds that anyone could look thru and see straight into the shower. The beds sagged in the center, had mismatched & tattered bedding with pillows left little to be desired. I was truly concerned I would wake up with bed bugs. The room was decorated in old, 80's style furniture littered in dust and cobwebs. Too make matters EVEN WORSE the neighboring guests stayed outside our door partying all night. They laughed, cursed, yelled & howled until 430 am. There was NO enforcement of the California Noise Ordinance from the owner. Despite my road fatigue and frustration, I finally packed my stuff up and left shortly after 5am. I was frustrated, exhausted and worried that my vehicle would be broken into or stolen. I later returned and spoke with the owner about the situation. He apologized multiple times and then informed me that the neighbors had already checked out and should not have any more issues. I told him that I had no plans of returning for another night and wanted a refund. I expected to get 2 nights refunded along with the key deposit since I returned it. I was told he could only give me back $120 because I didn't give him 24 hours notice that I wouldn't be staying the next day... mind you, I checked in at 11 pm the night prior. I feel that after the night I experienced, I should have received a full refund. If you find this is your only option while staying in Burney, California....please consider sleeping in your vehicle in the Safeway parking lot to avoid what I had to experience.

The lot was empty, with a creepy church in the back, plus it's called "Sleepy Hollow", so I wasn't sure about this place. But as I drove in, there was a sign that said "yes we are open", and you know what, they were! I could see a man with child in the lobby. It was midnight, so the owner let me haggle a slight discount. His family was in the backroom, which made me feel better because I was starting to feel like I was a character in a horror movie after driving around all these tiny, pitch black ghost towns. The room was really cute, but tiny. Still it was the nicest out of the higher rated budget motels I have been staying at for the past three nights. There are little details that show that they care here. Not your standard hotel/motel decor. Plus, there is a tv, microwave, wifi, refrigerator, working AC. I'd stay here again if I am in the area, and in need of some rest.

There's cable so it was nice to wind down and relax with a movie. On our way out to dinner, there was a guy sitting under a tree by our room, which was unnerving. How long was he there? I'm glad he wasn't there anymore when we came back. This motel is in a town with a population of 648. There's a museum across the street that was fun to visit. For breakfast, the hostess at the motel recommended the golf club. We went to a cool coffee shop to get iced coffee to go. For dinner, there's a pizza place and a restaurant in a hotel not too far from the motel. This town doesn't have a lot going on. As a matter of fact, there are a lot of buildings/businesses closed. My man and I were predicting that this place might be a ghost town in a couple of years. Unfortunately this week was in the middle of a 100+ degree heatwave so hanging out wasn't in the cards. We were inside with the AC on or on the Lake. He hauled our trash, provided firewood, and gave us directions to a cool beach spot on Lake Briton. Regardless of the heat, the amenities were exactly what we were looking for! Said Eff it, we're going! My wife and I dragged our Travel Trailer out there with our two dogs, found the resort with ease, pulled in, and that's when I met Allen. He is the NEW OWNER! He was very polite and gave me all of my information and my camp sight number. After we had settled in he swung by just to say hi so I told him all of the hesitations I had about staying there. That's when I learned he had just bought this trailer resort back in March 2019, and was in the early stages of a 100% revamp. In his exact words, "when I bought this place it was a mess!" He evicted all of the permanent tenants, hauled out all of their trash, and is now remodeling all of the mobile homes on sight to rent out as cabins in the future. THE STAY. It was awesome!! I would stay there again in a heartbeat. It was super quiet and relaxing. We had a couple neighbors parked near us, but everyone was respectable. The camp sight was level, so parking the trailer was easy. Full hook ups worked just as described. Dogs do have to be leashed in the camp area, but a 30ft walk up into the brush and you can let them off the leash to roam and do their business. AT&T is from what we were told the only provider that gets reception out there. We found it to be very spotty though, sometimes it would work just "okay" and other times it wouldn't work at all. The WiFi there was less than acceptable. It wouldn't work at all for us. I brought this up to management and he told me that they are aware of the issue and have 2 WiFi boosters on order to fix that- so with time that will get better. Burney falls is about a 4 minute drive. Allen gave us directions to a really cool spot you can park for free and then walk in on the back side of the falls along the pacific coast trail. Give the subway caves(lava tubes) a visit, took us about 25 minutes to drive too but was super cool! So in all, give this place a shot! We had an awesome experience. Better than some "5 star resorts" we have stayed at in the past. The new owner is welcoming and polite. The views are breathtaking. And its centrally located. THANKS FOR THE AWESOME STAY ALLEN!!!!
