We started coming here every time after we bring our dogs to the park. Lovely morning routine. This country needs more small owned businesses that makes locals feel like family. I went out of my way to check out Gordy's Bakery, and it totally lived up to the local hype. It's super low-key and no-frills, but that's part of the charm. I tried the gluten free ABC plonk (had to, after hearing about it), and now I get it...soft, buttery, just the right amount of sweetness. Simple, but really, really good. Every bite was a delight. Also, have to mention Nana behind the counter..so warm and welcoming, she really made the whole experience feel personal. Nothing fancy here, just solid baked goods and genuinely kind service. Gordy's is such a cute local gem! The interior is so vibrant and welcoming. A perfect spot for an afternoon pick-me-up. I grabbed a Sunshine Spiced Iced Latte and a Lemon Bar. Both were delicious! It's a great place if you're looking for a unique turmeric latte. I actually accidentally dropped my lemon bar right after paying and the staff was kind enough to replace it for me. Was in the area waiting for a neighboring business to open and decided to stop here for some goodies. They have a wide variety of items, including cookies, empanadas, scones, and bread on display in a refrigerated case, and everything looked so enticing that it was difficult to decide what to order. I chose a s'mores cookie, and my husband got a banana bread slice, along with a cranberry scone and a few other items for friends to try. Each item is already individually wrapped in plastic wrap, and cold. I waited until later in the day to try the cookie: it was definitely a sweet treat with just the right amount of marshmallow, graham cracker and chocolate in every bite. read more

I just started working in Encinitas and don't know the area well. I was driving and saw this place this morning! It's super cute inside, but small. There are a few tables inside and a few outside that are covered. The art on the walls is super cool! Service was great. I ordered a vanilla chai latte and chocolate banana bread! Super yummy. As others have commented, very pretty place, love all those posters of the Belly Up concerts and how colorful and cozy is this bakery. But the baked goods are all wrapped which looks so weird to me. The capuccino was great, good fresh coffee but the croissant with egg and ham didn't have any flavor and looked half baked to me. I think next time I will go for coffee only. read more

This is a charming little coffee shop decorated with very cool concert posters everywhere. A lot of reviews complain about the service but our counter gal was wonderful. We tried a maple scone (very dry and not very flavorful), a chocolate scone (less dry with a very nice flavor) and Trop Plonk (still not sure what a plonk is but it looked and tasted like a tropical muffin. It was nice.). The croissants were enormous but we didn't try them. They also had other baked goods and breakfast sandwiches. Good stuff. read more

Stopped by for some pastries, and it was my first time trying the plonk muffins. They tasted like a hearty and healthy muffin, perfect for breakfast after a sunrise run along the coast. I also grabbed a chocolate chip scone and a blueberry cream cheese Danish. The Danish was delicious and perfect for a sweet treat! I wasn't a fan of the scone as it tasted very dry. One thing i definitely love about this place is that the sandwiches are made to order. I got a bacon egg and cheese bagel and it was so delicious. The eggs were so light and fluffy with the perfect amount of bacon. The owners were very nice, friendly and attentive. Nice ambiance inside the store. Service was great. But the currant scone was soggy and peanut butter and chocolate cookie was falling apart in chunks and mediocre at best. I appreciated the relatively low sugar in both baked goods, but sadly the texture, consistency, and overall flavor profile was off for both, especially if they were baked fresh in the morning. Sorry, but at $6 a baked good, you need to be better than the conveyer belt pastries at the mainstream coffee shops...or at least as good as the pastries at the local, well-known coffee shops with the words Phil or Buzz in their names. read more

Ahh, finally a refreshing bakery that ticks all the boxes! Service is always great, the owner (I believe) is always in a great mood, cracks jokes and is very social, love it! Two stars is generous. I really was looking forward to trying this place. Every baked good was in a refrigerated case. I should have known that was a bad sign. Baked goods lose texture and moisture when refrigerated. Each item was $6 to $8. The sausage, egg, and cheese empanadas was warmed up in the MICROWAVE! The egg was so dry. The scone and cookie were wrong in texture because they were served cold. The cranberry scone had 3, just 3, cranberries in it. So sad that this was a real miss. Everything tasted old too. read more

Can't believe it took me years to finally go to this place even though I've shopped for years at the stores in this strip mall. It's a cute place in the quieter part of the strip mall across from the FedEx. There's a few tables inside and in front. Was helped by a nice & friendly guy who was kind & patient to answer my questions regarding the various baked goods. And there were so many to choose from both sweet & savory. Huge cookies, muffins, empanadas, scones, etc. We picked the Chocolate chip-peanut butter cookie-thick & good texture with the right amount of sweetness, the Currant scone (which is a bestseller) that is so buttery & good, and the (blueberry) Plonk which I can see why they're known for it. All of these were absolutely delicious! We also got a Soy latte & their house coffee which were also good. Overall, a wonderful place with delicious baked goods and good coffee. I won't be coming back. First time I had a raspberry turnover. I ordered it heated up, but the bread felt chewy like it does when it's microwaved. The taste was fine, nothing special. Not that great for $6. I tried G's again and ordered a slice of carrot cake loaf. Guy put it in the sleeve frosting side down. :/ The bread was just dry. (Was it stale or did it come out of the oven that way?) $6.50 for a piece of dry carrot cake...I'm done. It's a shame, as there aren't too many places like this around. read more

I hadn't been here before, we needed a caffeine boost and couldn't find the other tiny coffee shack in the same area that Google pointed us to, and thank goodness. Too bad this is in an old strip mall, the vibe inside is unique and better fitted to a beach street, but the magic is that they take you there if you just forget where you are. I tried Gordys yesterday for lunch and I'm already in love, the cannolis are to die for. There's so many choices to be healthy or fill a sweet tooth. The vibe is immaculate. I love all the pictures and colors that resides in the building in itself. Very inviting and somewhere to relax and work on extra curricular activities. Employees are always so sweet and welcoming. Just lost my biz for good...I'd been feeling like the quality was hit or miss, which really wasn't the case when he owned it. So...oh well. Hey guys. I occasionally want a real British scone. I've loved your currant scones. You usually do a great job with them But what i just picked up...that's not a currant scone. It's a raisin scone. They are not the same thing. Just call it a Raisin scone if you can't get Currants or aren't going to make them anymore. Personally, I'm not a raisin fan. But truly...there is a big difference between the two. Ugh. We were pleasantly surprised coming to Gordy's! This hole in the wall bakery houses many delicious treats. So far, I've tried the spinach and feta pastry, chocolate chip scone and the mini apple pie with vanilla ice-cream. Both were absolutely delicious! The bakery also offers savory items like meat pies and large mini quiches! Every time we could here we always have a sweet tooth. But I would love to try more of the savory items next time. The cashier waitress here is super helpful and very friendly. The service is fast and there's also outdoor seating. We can't wait to go back! read more
