We were pleasantly surprised coming to Gordy's! This hole in the wall bakery houses many delicious treats. So far, I've tried the spinach and feta pastry, chocolate chip scone and the mini apple pie with vanilla ice-cream. Both were absolutely delicious! The bakery also offers savory items like meat pies and large mini quiches! Every time we could here we always have a sweet tooth. But I would love to try more of the savory items next time. This place has potential. I can tell they're trying for a bit of fun different items instead of your average coffee shop with all white flour sugar bomb rolls in plastic wrap. So I get what you're trying to do. They're going for some bare-bones here I don't know what- to save money? If someone asked for something heated up, you don't stick the heated item in a bag! you give them a small plate and a fork especially if it's a quiche! Like they are saying out the door with you hint hint. If someone wants to drink coffee on site, give them a nice ceramic cup. Drinking coffee and eating Baked goods is supposed to be relaxing, Not picking apart quiche with my fingers from a bag. Come to find out the price later I'm shocked. Other places add some greens with quiche and some fruit on the side at any number of French places that serve better quiche with silverware and presentation.!! Weird site issues- No trash receptacle to throw anything in. Had to throw the trash on my car floor on way out?! No little counter to stir in any kind of creamer or sugar into the coffee. The guy behind the desk has to do it all for you with kind of a back-and-forth. No add more. Add less didn't ask me if I wanted room for cream didn't ask me if I wanted any sweeteners just handed it over like get out the door. And worst of all is the fact nothing has prices on it. You're supposed to stand there and banter with the guy and feel cheap while people are in line behind you while you ask about pricing on things. Why not just put the pricing on the items in the case? I find it very inappropriate for business to do this and waste the workers time and make people in line feel awkward. I got a couple of these things called plonks for my kids because they look like nice little breakfast muffins, one decaf coffee and my little squishy muffin quiche in a bag thing and it was over $40. For a coffee, "plonk", sausage roll, and scone, it was $26, which would have been pricey if they had been good; unfortunately all the items were inedible. They are all kept in a refrigerated case, and were cold in the middle even after being heated up. Nothing tasted moderately fresh or flavorful. We ended up tossing everything. read more

Like the other reviewer commented, the plastic wrap and refrigeration should have been a warning. I told the salesperson that the cookie had zero flavor. Haven't been here in years and I guess they changed ownership about 3 years ago. The inside looks the same, but they offer a lot more options in food items. I think the coffee list hasn't changed, but I'm not sure, the hammerhead is still there though! The ham and cheese croissant was amazing and delicious! The sausage roll was also fluffy. I visited Gordy's for the first time on 9-12-25. I was craving a pastry to enjoy with my afternoon coffee. I ordered the lemon scone and the large gingerbread cookie. My tasting experience was not good. For the gingerbread cookie, I was expecting a nice firm, snap, flavorful cookie and it was neither. There was no gingersnap flavor and the cookie was soft. I won't buy again. When I eat a gingersnap cookie it should be a gingersnap cookie. Secondly, the lemon scone was overbaked and no lemon flavor. The lemon part of the scone was a sugary lemon glaze. There should be natural lemon flavor within the scone with lemon zest. Overall, I will not purchase these again unless the recipe is changed and items are baked correctly. read more

Love supporting this place because 1- awesome customer service- their adorable kiddos help clean the tables and the owner is frequently manning the cash register and greets everyone with a huge smile, 2- the baked goods are always changing with exciting new pastries (hello chicken pot pie today, yummm) while keeping a solid base with fan favorites (snickerdoodle and R-bar I'm looking at you), and 3- something about their iced coffee is so good, it doesn't even need creamer. Super cute bakery in Encinitas. I'm surprised they have a lot of savory pastries, including meat pie, quiches, and savory empanadas. I had a bacon, cheese & egg empanada, it is so delicious! I love Gordy's location but unfortunately I now remember the time before when I purchased a berry scone gluten free that it was terrible. Today I purchased the same it's only 2.5 in wide so very small it was $7.00 over the top price. The problem is I get home and take a bite the flour immediately becomes dry flour that crumbles into a fine powder and you have to have some drink to wash down each bite down or you can choke ( no joke) I know of tons of bakery's that don't have this issue. I hope they improve the recipe because I'd like to come back. Also most of the crumbs land as fine particles on your plate not even edible. Disappointed :(( read more

I have given this bakery several chances. Americanos here taste burnt. Their pastries always look great, but typically disappoint. Scones aren't the right texture, empanadas aren't the right texture and are far too heavy. Ham and cheese croissant was good, but only after it was heated up twice. Grabbed iced coffee from here yesterday and it was SO good! Really fresh and made to order. The bakery has fun decor inside and both indoor/outdoor seating options. We were excited to try this bakery but it was very disappointing. We got a cookie, chocolate croissants, raisin cinnamon pastry, iced pound cake and banana bread. They were overpriced. But more importantly they seemed stale and old. Not fresh at all and very sad looking. Save your money - go to one of the French pastry shops on el Camino or prager bros on the 101. read more

Great selection. I had a hard time deciding what to get. All the baked goods were a lot bigger then you find in most bakeries. The decor was great, very hip vibe. Love the band posters on the walls and the bright colors. The person helping us was friendly and very personable. He took the time to warm up some pastries, it made them that much more delectable. I got the Lunch Lady bar, I've never seen that at a bakery before. It was decadent and rich. All the peanut butter and chocolate you could want. Wish we were local so we could stop by on the regular. I've been going to Gordy's for over 4 years. Even when I moved to LA, I would make sure i made a stop here when we'd visit. Gordy's is family owned which I love! They make you feel very welcomed and always spark up a chat. I would come early!!! Like right when they'd open I'd get my morning chai latte and be ready for work. Now moving to the pastries! I am a Sunday regular at Gordy's and my favorite barista Anthony makes me the best cappuccino and favorite quiche for me. Unfortunately, last weekend he wasn't there and whoever was in his place had a terrible attitude and gave me very rude customer service. Today I went back to see if Anthony was there and the whole vibe of the cafe was cheery as usual with people laughing and conversing. This shouldn't change day to day. Love this place for coffee in the morning however I showed up at 9am today and the cafe was 97 degrees. The employees were white faced soaked with sweat. They explained that A/C unit had been out of sorts for some time. The neglect of these young employees as well as the sweating clients disgusts me. Fix your A/C or Close, Be professional. read more

I bought 4 different flavored scones, vanilla bean, lemon, apple pie and chocolate, and the only one that had any flavor at all was the chocolate but only because you could taste the chocolate chips. Otherwise they all tasted exactly the same, like eying a lump of flour. The dump muffins was just plain horrible tasting and the zucchini bread was marginal at best. A cute little hole in the wall cafe, prices are pretty on par with bigger coffee shops but I definitely feel better spending my money in a locally owned place. I had a medium sized vanilla oat milk latte and it was delicious, I also enjoyed a turkey and cheese croissant. The bread part was perfect, however I wasn't a huge fan of the turkey used in the pastry. The cheese was good tho! My three year old enjoyed their mnm cookie and he enjoyed it, I had a bite and it wasn't for me, but it was definitely for him.
