Mike was great. Met us with board and wetsuits and met each of us at our level. He was very hands on and out there in the water with us the whole time. We met by the bathrooms of El Porto by lifeguard station 12 and picked up our wetsuits from their cars. From there, we headed towards a less crowded portion of the water by the rocks, and did a quick yoga flow before going into the basics of how to pop up and hold the board. After the lesson, we got assigned our boards and went off into the water. I think both instructors tried to spread their attention as evenly as possible. I was able to stand up multiple times and surf some one-foot waves (go me!). The time flew by, and once it was over, we brought the surfboards back to their cars. They'll take Venmo for tips. I would suggest wearing your flip flops to the beach since the ground was really hot, and also bringing a water bottle for post-surf. There's paid parking available in the lot although the meters seem to be broken since I still got a ticket even though my parking should've been valid. Otherwise there's very limited street parking. You can leave your valuables in the instructor's car. You can book private lessons on the website or small group lessons as well. Definitely book the lesson - it's a great workout and you'll have so much fun!

When school started I was tasked to plan a beach party to kick start the school year with some other families for the kindergarten class at our elementary school and I'm SO happy I broke away from the regular vendors that the school usually go to in the past. "Perfect Day Surf Camp" really did give us a SUCH A Perfect Day! The parents were happy to see a different group who brought in some new and fresh activities and the kids were happy that the activities were stuff that they could easily participate in! These are 5 year olds so it's no easy feat to keep them engaged but Perfect Day pulled it off! Most importantly, Robbie, the owner was AWESOME. She texts and emails - which I love because makes planning so much easier! PLUS, she was actually there to supervised and facilitate on the day of! The attending parents thought it was awesome too! Now I don't expect Robbie to be present at every event because her business was quite large. However we were really happy and grateful that the owner of the business was on site for our event because we knew things would get done right! There was some confusion , my fault for not reading the address listed on the contract clearly, about the meeting place on the day of the party however Robbie and her crew were on it! They quickly moved their stuff to our party site . It was just on the other side of the life guard tower, however they did have equipment and a tent already set up that they had to lug over so it wasn't easy but we so appreciate them for accommodating! Confirm the address with Robbie before the party! Don't be lame like me! Whomp Whomp!! Also! Have parents sign waivers before your party, but Robbie is a professional and actually brought waivers for all attending families to sign in person. Like I said she was on it and made things less stressful for us! So we've experience both with the surf camp and the beach party with Robbie and her crew and it's A+++++ all around! Highly Recommend! Not only did my kids have a total blast, but the camp is run like a well oiled machine. You can order pizza for your kids lunch online ahead of time so you don't have to make their lunches - and they'll LOVE you for it! You can order hats for your campers ahead of time too. And at the end of the week the moms get a free hat as well. Who doesn't love a freebie?! All the camp staff and counselors were kind, energetic and helpful with the kids. There's all kinds of fun things to do on the beach - not just surfing. They play all types of fun beach games . The counselors help the kids with everything. All the kids have to do is decide which fun things they want to do. It's all offered everyday. There's also plenty of shade if the kids need a break from the sun. The drop off and pick up was super smooth. Which is pretty impressive since it happens in the walk streets of Manhattan Beach where it can get pretty congested. But they have a staff member waiting to receive kids as they get dropped off. Then they inform the crew on the beach that your kids have arrived on a two-way radio and send the kids to the crew waiting on the beach. All very safe and smooth! This camp has clearly been operating long enough that they have it all figured out. But since it's run by moms, they have that certain attention to detail, only a mom would be able to do! I was anxious to get a "real" board, but the guy helping us was kind enough to tell me to slow my roll. My kids are on Wavestormers and still getting a feel for it, and the guy suggested not to rush them past that stage. Much appreciated advice, and it means I am 1000% coming back to ET when they *are* ready for new boards. He is an exceptionally patient and attentive teacher (even to a very beginner like me) and gives helpful feedback after every single wave. He helps me understand the forecast/conditions which is super helpful especially as I am learning how to pick times to surf on my own. He picks the best location based on the conditions for the day and will even offer to reschedule sessions if the conditions are not going to be fun. I'd previously done two surfing lessons before this, but Quin was the only instructor I'd had before who taught me about the wave height and which waves I should try to go for as a beginner, as well as the kind of wave breaks. I did a private lesson with him, which started out with stretching on the sand and going over fundamentals like popping out and the right way to paddle. I also really appreciated that he checked in with me multiple times before our lesson, as we initially had to reschedule due to the waves being too big the first day. On the day of the lesson, he called me before to note that the waves were pretty big and gave me options to move the lesson to another location or keep it in El Porto close to shore. I'd recommend taking classes with him, you'll not only improve at surfing but learn a lot overall.
