Yesterday I tried Thermiaesthetic which is ThermiSmooth Skin Tightening. I ran over on my lunch break and LoLa who was the Esthetician couldn't have been nicer! She rubbed a ton of gel on my lower face and neck with my clothes covered with towels then came the funny device. I was nervous as she said I might be a little red after, but I wasn't at all! The treatment itself was pleasant and I almost fell asleep I was so relaxed! Then the gel was cleaned off about 25 minutes later and then I was good to go! I went back to the office and they were none the wiser! My skin already looks tighter although she recommended another couple of treatments. Which at the price point is affordable. If you need a little lift with no down time I can't recommend it enough! Plus everyone at Gotham was delightful! read more

My girlfriend and I came here for hair and makeup for a big night out. Makeup: My eye shadow was good for photos, horrific for talking with someone. First off, they didn't remove our street makeup to apply their makeup. Who else doesn't start with a clean base? Second the artist is a smoker and hadn't washed his hands. We wondered how clean his hands really were, and one of us is a smoker! Third our under-eye makeup was so thick that at 30 and 35 we both had grandma creases. My friend's mascara was clumpy: really? Hair: Mine looked great, but the artist said it would be great for a week, and well...no. The next day my hair was greasy and flat. My friend got nothing that she wanted, and just ended up leaving with straight hair with no body. For $300, it was a complete bust. Should have gone elsewhere. read more

I had a pedicure done here because I won a $25 off coupon. Online it says their pedicures cost $48.50. I had the pedicure and it was fine, a little uncomfortable because they don't really have a proper pedicure station. None the less, Roberto was great, took his time and I was happy with his work. I gave Ali my $25 off and he told me total cost was $23.50. I asked for my receipt, he charged me $62.00. When I pointed it out they were very apologetic and told me they would reimburse me the next day. 4 days later, nothing happened so I called and Ali said he would do it right away. As of now, 10 days later they have only given me $11 back of the $39 they owe me. I've called again and hope to have this issue resolved soon but they have not returned my calls. read more

OMG Roberto! After years living in New York I almost forgot the high Italian standard I was used to. I tried almost everything and Roberto is great and precise. He follows high hygiene standards that are almost impossible to find in US. He shaped my eyebrows (wax) perfectly and the European facial is something that you wouldn't forget. In addition I have never had a polish so perfect. It was only the end of the most enjoyable mani-pedi I have had since I moved here, with super-high attention to hygiene in addition to the incredible results. There are two things I can't live without in my daily routine and that's an under eye product and exfoliating face wash...both of which I forgot to pack on a recent trip to NYC earlier this month, and both of which I've only been able to find at home in SF. The heat and humidity was the equivalent of walking into an armpit, which was not only miserable, but bad for my skin. So I panicked. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on some department store product that I might not like and I couldn't just pop into any Duane Reade and find a top quality skin care product, the kind I'd be comfortable applying to my face in the morning and before bedtime. So while walking down 40th Street by Bryant Park , I was thrilled to stumble upon Gotham Beauty Lounge. This little gem of a boutique sells products for men (and women) and Judith, the specialist who helped me, clearly knows a lot about skincare and the specific line of products they sell. Their eye gelee is amazing! The bags under my eyes are practically gone, no redness and no swollen puffiness. I found two exfoliators there. One for a deep scrub that practically removes the top layer of dead skin and another they call a "polish" which is a scrub and cleanser in one. The place was quite chic and very personable. The price points were reasonable and I felt like I was not only in good hands, but that I was working with someone who really cared. It seems like this place does well with regularly scheduled appointments, but they were more than happy to help me as a walk-in off the street. This place does everything, from makeup and hair, to botox and skin peels, and if I had more time, I could have spent a few hours enjoying some of their fresh brewed iced tea and chatting with the staff while playing with all the different creams, gels, and scrubs like I used to when time wasn't of the essence. read more

I think I've been to about six salons for blowout with Beauty Pass BB and this is by far my favorite. I was a little skeptical because it's small and slightly awkwardly laid out. The receptionist was also a little standoffish. To be fair to him I was six minutes late, but my stylist was ten minutes late. Anyway, the stylist look at my hair at first and pointed out some problems I was having with breakage. She suggested a service but not necessarily in a pushy way. I like that they use all oribe products. I was really satisfied with the loose curls and volume in my hair. It did all fall out few hours later, but that's really more of a function of the texture of my hair. read more

I had Sebastian help me shape and tweeze my eyebrows. He was very friendly and professional. He consulted with me first about what my opinion is and then start design my eyebrows. The tweeting procedure is painful. This is also why I don't tweeze by myself. The price is high - in usual salon, eyebrow shaping costs $7 but here, it costs 45+tax+tip=almost $60. You might want to evaluate if the eyebrows shaped here really worth a cost that is 9 times more than the alternate option. read more

I stopped by for a haircut/styling and was very satisfied with the results! Its a beautiful place and conveniently located near my office. I received many compliments from my friend and co-workers. During my payment, the receptionist was entering my information for a digital receipt. I found out they dont accept debit card tips, so I went over to the bank to withdraw cash. During that time, I opened up my email to see that she totally misspelled my first AND last name. Not even a typo-mistake. Like just totally butchered it. I recall spelling it out for her & even handing over my ID to her but I guess that was little of importance to her. Mind you, the place was dead. I thought the least she could've done was get something as small as my name, spelt correctly. Very UNprofessional I still returned to tip my stylist but would I come here for their service in the future? Most likely not. read more

I went in with a disaster of eyebrows and I was placed with Sebastian, he was truthfully sent from eyebrow heaven..i know corny..the point is that this man did a 360 on my eyebrows. He not only gave me helpful every day tips to upkeep them, but reshaped my natural eyebrow from horrific rounded shape it had to a beautiful full arch eyebrow, everyone was so courteous also and made me feel so comfortable. Despite of the past review my experience at Gotham Beauty Lounge was completely positive! Since then everyone keeps asking me where do I go get my eyebrows done. read more

As a birthday gift to myself, I recently got a full set of eyelash extensions at Gotham Beauty Lounge. A former lash addict, I've been to top-of-the-line lash salons in NYC (JJ Eyelashes, Rs Eyelash Design, etc) so I'm familiar with the process and know what the expect. As the prices at Gotham Beauty Lounge are comparable to the best lash salons in NYC, I expected the product to be comparable as well. This was not the case. Let's break it down: Amount of Lashes-A full set at other salons includes 90-100 lashes. When I asked the asthetician how many lashes would be included in a full set. She said she doesn't count as she's a make-up artist and just applies as many lashes as she see's fit. I respect that approach, but don't call it a full-set; it's just misleading your customers. I would guess I received 50-70 lashes per eye. Appearance-No lashes were applied at the interior of my lashes. My natural lashes are only 7-9 in length, and I had 12 length lashes applied, so this gap really took away from the natural look I was going for. Also, other lash studios vary the length of lashes, especially if a customer is going for a natural look. My asthetician used 12 length. This would have been fine, but I requested 10, 11 and 12 length, which she ignored. Also, after the lashes were applied, it was immediately apparent that a couple were already falling off. Duration-It's been just under 2 weeks and all of the lashes are gone. As a point of comparison, JJ lashes lasted 3 times as long, in the middle of the summer, during which time I was swimming 4 time a week, running long-distance races and vacationing in a tropical climate. Personnel-The employees are warm and friendly, and make you feel at home here. It's not an assembly line salon, and I sense clients are not rushed, but made to feel at home. In the interest of disclosure, I did pay $99 with a giltcity certificate for the lashes. Even at this price, I am very disappointed. I really wanted to look my best for my birthday. I'm giving 3 stars because the owner, Judith, is a doll! When she heard it was my birthday, she offered me a cupcake and champagne. (My asthetician offered to touch up my makeup, but didn't. Hm). I enjoyed hearing about Judith's makeup line, which I'd love to try. Also, the decor in this place is not only impeccable, it's chic and cozy. They really hit the mark with design. read more

I went in to shape my eyebrows. The lady that helped was very nice and friendly but didn't know what she was doing! My eyebrows are nothing like what asked her for, they are not even shaped similarly. The arch is not even a straight arch. Also it's $46!!! I would gladly pay that for a great job but not for this. Maybe there's someone else that does a good job but if that person is not around then tell your clients! read more

I booked my reservation for a blow out with Nathaniel back on May 4th, but when I got there on May 17th, they had no Idea of my reservation and it looked like I was double booked. Since I was there during my lunch hour, I didn't want to wait. The male receptionist and girl doing the blowout offered zero alternatives and had no idea what to say to me. When they noticed my frustration, a makeup artist, Jessica that was working that day just happened to know how to do hair, which lucked out for me. She was wonderful. I also ended up more than what I expected. When I was offered to use the curling iron, I didn't realize it would raise the blowout price $20 and I ended up paying $80. That was not Jessica's fault, because she didn't know the rates. But the other two should have said something. Very unsatisfied with the service of this place and no apologies were ever offered for the mix up. read more

I went here to have a facial the other day, the facial was pretty good- Roberto got rid of all my black/white heads and my skin feels great! The face massage could have been better. I was given a robe to change into and a clean blanket to keep me warm! However, as far as a relaxing ambience goes this place fails miserably. I could hear everything that was going on in the salon- talking, hairdryers, vacuum cleaning...you name it! When I had the facial mask on- you have to let it sit for 10 minutes and relax, this was virtually impossible. For a facial that costs $140 (65 mins) Detoxifer it really disappoints that the room is not sound proof/ entirely private- there is a gap in between the wall and ceiling! read more

From what I understand, this place is new to the area, and boy is it a welcome sight! Are you ever running around midtown, living all the way uptown/downtown, and dont have time to fix your ______ (hair, makeup, nails, you name it!) that just got ruined at work or on the subway? And you have a date/meeting/function in an hour?? One stop into this charming store and that is all fixed! Gotham offers express makeup applications, nails, etc. treatments, has a doctor on staff for procedures like facials (for those of us who have a little more time). To top it off, they have one of the most LUXURIOUS skin care lines I have ever had the opportunity to try! My face is ridiculously sensitive, and Judith set me up with some products that I now swear by!!!! That woman is a godsend. The decor in this place is impeccable, and I love the fact that they have a "mens bar" full of shaving products, skincare for men, and male-geared products! When I was in, there were actually men browsing and buying, which I thought was really cool that they could cater to both places!! Definitely stop in--their prices are luxury, but definitely not as bad as Kiehls, etc, can be. Plus, they're local! WOoohoo!! read more

I knew the hairstylist from another salon where she used to work and I had to follow her to GBL!! She's amazing and I trust very few people with my curly hair!! I followed Kisa Alexander from a previous salon because she's professional, courteous and extremely talented with the scissors. She makes the hair dance. Period. I have a short style and she's cut and colored my hair when it was natural and chemically treated. What I especially like about her service is that she knows how to care for my wavy texture. read more

I don't know what to say about this establishment. The lady that works there (risalda) seemed as if she was very enthusiastic to meet with me. She sent me a voicemail and she sound very interested and when I arrived to the salon it was a different story. I don't want to insinuate anything, but seems like she was expecting me to be someone else. That's not good for business. read more

I'm giving it two starts because Sebastian did a very good job with the make up for my wedding. The hair was a different story. I had paid $150 for a trial to make sure they got it right on the day. Before the trial I e mailed to make sure they gave me someone who would be available on my wedding day which was two weeks later. I was happy with the trial and was looking forward to seeing them again. I then got a call two days before my wedding saying the hair stylist could not be reached so they were assigning me a new hair stylists. I was not offered a refund on the hair trial I had paid for which was now useless, only a free "consultation" with the new hair stylist- meaning a talk, not a trial, which I did not have time for as my wedding was two days away. On the day, I was sat away from a mirror so that I could not see anything. When he was finally finished, I saw that he did my hair completely differently, even though I had shown photos and done my best to explain exactly what I wanted. He did his best to fix it, but it was too late, and the hair was frizzy because he's already back-combed most of it. I left for the ceremony feeling awful and really insecure about my hair. It looked terrible and not professionally done. Any friend of mine could have done better. Then, about 20 minutes later, all the curls fell out. I tried my best to re-curl it on my own, but nothing worked. I sent a picture to Gotham Beauty and they refunded me $200- which only just about covered the original hair trial by the other stylist that never showed up. There are so many professional beauticians out there. Don't use this one. read more

I had trouble getting in contact with them the last 2 weeks bc apparently their receptionist left short notice. If you are a bride do not go here for your wedding! It is the most poorly mananged salon I have ever been to. I will try to make this short but I do want to prevent other brides from all the unnecessary stress. I was referred to their make up artist - got prices for my wedding party and scheduled a trial that coincided with my brothers wedding. The trial was - $95 for hair and $95 for makeup. They called me two days before the trial to cancel due to work happening on the building. When I say that is not acceptible they waited until 3pm the day before the wedding - when I called back (they didn't even call me) to say they would make it work. And oh - they forgot to mention the person I was referred to left so I would have two new people. Are you kidding? Luckily the new makeup person was great - hair was ok. I called back a couple weeks later to do a retrial of the hair and the stylist isn't even free on my wedding day (so why did I have a trail with her??) Then the secretary/manager gets fired and there is a new person who starts to renegotiate with me (now my wedding is two months away and I am very frustrated). A week or two later the new secretary/mananger tells me he is leaving and wishes me luck. At this point I never want to work with them again. What should have been a fun and relaxing process was a stressful mess. read more
