I could read the "E" at the top of the eye chart and that was all. As soon as I could, much later in life, I did something about it. Two co-workers recommended Dr. Ashraf of the Atlanta Vision Institute when he was with his former lasik surgery practice. On their recommendation, I had the same surgery performed (using a type of Bausch & Lomb equipment that is obsolete now). He corrected my eyes to 20/15 in one eye, and nearly 20/15 in the other. This was back in 2001 and I swear by my results. Lasik, though performed under a streamlined process, is still surgery, and you experience minor discomfort and inconvenience as you recover. The success rate is very, very high, as a result of being carefully screened beforehand. Read the literature accompanying your consent forms. I referred Miss D. to Dr. Ashraf after he formed the Atlanta Vision Institute, and he performed a different type of vision improvement surgery for her, and three years later she also is very happy with her result. We paid for and received the one-year touch-up package, though she did not use it.

If there are any perks to having cancer, it's the fact that the man now has a recommendation for pretty much every type of doctor there is. I really liked Dr. Hewitt and the rest of the office. She was polite, quick, and volunteered information rather than having to extract it from her like pulling teeth. For example, I had no idea that I'm a good candidate for Lasik surgery and if my prescription doesn't change in the next year, she'd recommend me for it. Who knew? The rest of the staff was equally nice and none of them gave me the creeper vibe. The last thing you want is to be stuck in a dark room when you can't see well with a guy that's setting off your creeper alarm. Okay, maybe some people enjoy that, but I digress. I was told thanks no problem and they understood. The said just call and they would schedule the surgery over the phone since I had completed the preliminary steps. 3 weeks later I was clear to schedule. Phoned the number I was given was not answered but I left a message as directed. 1 week went by and no call. I phoned again, no answer but directed to the message center. Left another detailed message. 4 days later , no call. I called the office direct and spoke to someone who said she didn't schedule the surgery but would transfer the call to a lady who could handle that. After a couple of rings, no answer message machine. Left another message. To day is December 25. Still no return call. I completed my second eye surgery with Atlanta Ophthalmology associates. If you come during the weekend there can be a bit of a wait, but there are several comfortable seatings throughout the establishment to help you relax and the shades on the window help to get the sun out of your eyes. --Service/Staff-- Highly recommend Liza, which I believe is the owner, she has the glasses separated by your insurance which helps down select the frames you can choose from. She is up front on the pricing, and you are never shocked at the end as to what you will be out of pocket. I recommend speaking to her beforehand to get a guideline of the cost and what your insurance will cover. I also can't forget Dr. Ouyekwelu who is very knowledge in the optometry field. She had me looking at be aware of changes in the upcoming years and what diseases to look out for. Nothing serious, it is more pre-cautionary measures that she sits down and talk through with you about. --Products-- If you speak with Liza, she will find the right frames for you which, ever since I spoke with her, I've been getting compliments on my glasses and how they perfectly frame my face. Speak to her and her recommendations. For example, she measures where the pupil will look through the lens and marks it down and adjust the frame and speaks to the manufacturer to get the glasses just right. I never seen that in my 20+ years of wearing glasses. --Overall-- Knowledgable and very friendly staff that will work with you on insurance, timing, dates and even squeezing you in before the year end. Highly recommend this optometrist to see. My only con would be that I wish Dr. Ouywkwelu had more office hours to give you more flexibility in scheduling appointments.
