We didn't have a bad bite... is a gross understatement. Just amazing food and unique flavor profiles for the usual BH spots. Off the beaten tourist path and open year round, PP lives up to the reviews and hype. We made a mistake our first night in Bar Harbor going to a tourist trap and getting a rubbery lobster roll and sad chowder. I did a bit of research online and found Peekytoe and was SO glad for it. While you don't get a water view, but a cute walk down the main drag, it is WELL worth the excursion AND HOW. My husband said his Crabby Patty was the best crab cake sandwich he ever had. I agreed in as I had the cake as an app. I also got a Halibut dish with pickled fiddleheads (a local green I might liken to okra for lack of other reference) and blistered tomatoes. It was moist, well cooked fish, amazing sides with phenomenal heightening elements. We also enjoyed our cocktails immensely. GO if you are a foodie and don't want a lame wannabe roll with some kids grilled cheese sides, DO this spot. SO well worth it. PS to manament - I know you do a brunch. MAKE SURE YOU DO A CRABCAKE BENEDICT. Your crab cakes are divine and with a slight seared crunch. Ideal. You can even do a lemon-fiddlehead or blistered tomato HOLLANDAISE. I'd be IN IN as I am sure most people would. The vinegary elements from the fiddleheads to (I think) my husband's pickled onion atop his crabby patty MADE the CRABCAKES THE STAR. read more

Packed full of crab meat, and no extra flavorings needed (though it does have some bay seasoning)! Worth coming back for this. The Smoked Fish Chowder (Bowl) had a lot of fish, with a hint of smokiness and a kick. Definitely hearty with the other ingredients (celery, potato, onion) and warms you up! The Baked Polenta Fries had a decent crisp. Frying would definitely give it a much better texture. I loved the dipping sauce, which definitely helped the dish. The Kelp Salad (Half) was too salty and I'm not a fan of the texture, so not a dish for me. It is a decently sized portion for a half. The Natalie's Lemonade was a good typical lemonade. Of all the restaurants we went to in Bar Harbor, this one was my favorite. The food was all really great, and so was the coffee. I would highly recommend getting the pistachio milk! The salmon was so good, and so were all the sides. The only nit-picky thing is the clam chowder didn't taste like clam chowder. It was delicious, but spiced more like a chicken noodle soup. It wasn't the creamy clam chowder I was expecting. They also don't have salt or pepper on the tables. The service was very nice! We were offered coffees for the road, and checked on the perfect amount. I'm so glad that i made a stop here because everything that i tried was delicious. Our favorite dish had to be the blueberry pie for dessert but everything we had felt thoughtfully prepared. The signature salad has a big portion of toppings that I really enjoyed and the amount of dressing was perfect. We also tried the crab roll which was well complemented by the pickle on the side. The crab was cooked well and seasoned. The smoked fish chowder was nice to warm us up but I didn't like the flavors of this as much. The fish is salmon and haddock! The oysters were so good. I loved their balsamic mignotte and i felt that all the varieties they had were distinct from each other. Unicorns were my favorite that night then blondes. Those who want to prepare the seafood themselves should just head straight to the second door where they have a small market section carrying a strong selection of local and sustainably sourced fish, shellfish, and live lobsters. Those who rather have the professionals prepare it for you, the first door leads to you to various plates and brew. Then there are those...dine first, quench thy thirst, then grab more fresh seafood on the way out for later. Their story and the recently completed renovations make this place absolutely charming. Their philosophy and grit is what makes them such a success story in this area. Of course, none of this would mean anything if they didn't stick to their commitment to QUALITY every single time. We had high hopes for this stop as it was very busy when we arrived. We ordered the tacos and lobster bisque. The bisque was lukewarm and had very little lobster in it. They charged $3 for 4 toast crostinis and some butter. The tacos did not come with any sides. None of their items do except the dinners. The tacos had very little fish in them. The local draft beer from Atlantic was $11. That same beer at Atlantic was $7. Our server was kind and attentive. The inside is clearly new and looks lovely but the noise carries so it's a smidge difficult to have a normal conversation if it's at all occupied. Service was fine but the food less so. The oysters I would definitely not recommend at all. I was excited about their hot lobster roll but what I think they do is steam the lobster and then sautee it, which cooks it twice so it was very chewy. My husband had their crab roll and liked it, so go for that! read more

After already having our requisite lobster roll, clam chowder and blueberry pie from another place ... we decided to walk a bit further up the road past the park to where it was less touristy. Decided on a bowl of clam chowder with extra clams ($11 + $5) ... which was more broth based than creamy and not sure it was worth extra for the kinda tough clams. Also got the Lazy Lobster ($30) with side of mustard seed cole slaw ... but lobster was a little less tender than expected. The best part was the Belleflower Brewing Antheia's Ascent DIPA ($10) ... so hazy and perfect. Although quite busy when we got there ... we asked (an older woman who was lukewarm to us) to wait for a larger outdoor table on the side. But another woman (owner) was quite friendly in joking with us and taking our order. Service was good with a rotation of staff helping to meet the needs of all the customers ... both in and out doors. Not sure if we just ordered the wrong things ... but if ever in BH again, we would go back to give it another try with possibly the oysters ($3). read more

We stopped by for an early dinner around 4pm on a Sunday afternoon and were able to get seated immediately. There are tables with umbrellas in the front and a row of bar seating and tables inside. We stared with the Halibut Ceviche and this was good but it was missing the onions and jalapeño that were listed in the description. Next up were the oysters! These were the freshest and best oysters we've had in Bar Harbor. We got the Blonde and Cranberry ones. The Blonde ones were very briny but very good. You do not need to add any of the accompaniments! These are also one the best priced oysters in BH. For main entrees, we got the Bluefish sandwich and the Salmon Rueben Panini. Both of the sandwiches had extremely fresh fish. I thought the salmon would be fully cooked but it's more of a "medium" lox type. They also have a great selection condiments and snacks in their marketplace and they also carry a wide selection of Momofuku items. I highly recommend this location! They are closed on Monday's or else we would have returned. read more

Didn't get a chance to try their "highly-rated" foods, but I'll give my two cents on our experience with the staff, two Caucasian ladies "working" at the reception area. We entered the restaurant (6 Asians) and waited to be seated, as per the sign. We've been standing in front of the reception booth for a good 5 minutes waiting to be seated, and aware that the two ladies saw us, but they or not one of them bothered to come talk to us. They just blatantly pretended we were not there. We turned around and went to the next restaurant across from them, and it was the best decision we made that day, so in a way, we owe them thanks! read more

Amazing food at a more than reasonable price and in the cutest venue - hands down the best dinner we had in Bar Harbor. The smoked fish chowder and "Curry-ish bisque" were very unique in flavor and delicious! I've never had soup like either of them before - the chowder was very hearty and the bisque was very rich. The hot butter lobster roll was the best I'd had during my trip (and I had many)! We noticed they have lobster tanks in the back, which explains why it tasted so fresh. The crabby patty is a burger made with a large crab cake as the patty, it was so well spiced and the cook on it was perfection. The warm mulled apple cider was delicious, not too sweet and just a tad tart. We sat on the heated patio, and it was very pleasant even tho it was freezing out. The staff is warm and friendly. We loved it so much that I started writing this review during dinner and we are already planning on coming back tomorrow. TLDR: perfection. A must visit in Bar Harbor. read more

Please stay away from this place. We'd like to keep it to ourselves. Our waitress was fabulous and guided us through the menu. She clearly was invested in the success of the restaurant. After a long morning of hiking this was the perfect spot to hang out. We sat outside because we had our dog. It was really sunny & warm but the umbrella over the table kept us cool. We got a dozen oysters, 4 of each different type, they all were great & so fresh! We also got the clam chowder, monkfish nuggets, seaweed salad & tuna tartare. The chowder wasn't too thick & had dill in it which was good if you like dill. The monkfish nuggets were described to have a chip crust, ours had a lot of black crumbles that would make you think they were burnt but they didn't taste that way. I think they could've used a little salt & I thought the same about the tuna tartare. We were also surprised the tuna tartare didn't come with chips or crackers. The seaweed salad was surprisingly good, even my husband liked it! We ordered a couple local beers & could've stayed all day. So good we ate here twice. Great recommendation by Yelp Portland CM Steff. Thanks to Julianna and Drew for the great service. So many choices on the menu. For appetizers... The Crunchy Monkfish Nuggets with a potato chip crust were delicious. The Smoked Halibut Spring Rolls were a unique and tasty. Local oysters served shucked on the half shell are $3 each. We got the cranberry oysters. Ask for complimentary accoutrements like Fiore white balsamic mignonette, house spicy cocktail sauce, or a lemon wedge. For soups and salads... The House Smoked Fish Chowder was one of the best that we have ever tried. Huge pieces of smoked fish with lots of celery, potatoes, corn and onions in a light cream-based chowder with fresh herbs and paprika. This is why we came back a second time. The local Seaweed Salad, springtide seaweed sugar kelp and skinny kelp, served with pickled red onion, topped with white and black sesame seeds and tamari sesame ginger dressing was a nice, light starter. The Smoked Sablefish Salad on arugula with a local sheep cheese and Fuji apples was so unique and so good. Perfect for an early dinner. Entrees and sandwiches... The Local Lobster Roll was the best on this trip. Get it served hot sauteed in a lemon thyme butter. $30 for a 6" roll. The redfish tacos were a nice daily special. The Tuna Panini was good. Uncooked sushi grade tuna with pickled red onion and wasabi aioli on sourdough. The Fresh Haddock Sandwich was a bit too salty. Local wild haddock served with either a panko or cornmeal crust, blackened or not, with house tartar sauce, pickled red onion, fresh lettuce on a toasted challah bun. Served with a tangy mustard slaw and a pickle, it is a huge sandwich. It is a bargain at $10. Sick of seafood? The Avocado Havarti Panini with a roasted tomato on sourdough was a good option. They also have a small grocery area for local provisions like fresh fish, salmon spread, local cheeses and marinades. So nice to sit outside on the patio at a wooden picnic table enjoying dinner on a warm summer night in Bar Harbor. The nickname "peekytoe" comes from "picked toe" referring both to the handpicked leg or toe meat and the pointed shape of the crab leg. "Picked" means "pointed" in Maine. This small crab can reach up to five inches across and have a red or orange shell and white belly. The exterior of this place caught our eye while strolling along the streets of Downtown Harbor because it literally looked like a quaint private house with several patio tables out in the front. Because it was pretty crowded, we decided to get our food to go. We ordered the: 1. Crabby patty burger: such a huge patty stuffed with so much crab meat and charred just to the right amount! the pickled red onions also provided a really nice contrasting flavor 2. Cajun shrimp po' boy: definitely one of the spicier cajun blends I've had in a while! the sandwich doesn't come with too many shrimps but they're fairly large and also have lots of breading crust. the cocktail sauce that they add on top makes the shrimps even spicier, so it wouldn't hurt to keep a beverage close by just in case lol 3. Fresh haddock sandwich: one of the cheapest main dishes on the menu but still lots of food! we went with the panko crust and blackened preparation, but honestly the fish came too blackened and was overly salty for our taste. 4. Duck sausage "bomb": i've never had sausage made from duck meat before and this looked so interesting! the taste definitely didn't disappoint and this might have been tied with the crabcake burger as my favorites from this order. The sausage was juicy and super flavorful and I really enjoyed the sauteed peppers and onions that came with the roll. was super relieved that they added the spicy dijon mustard in a cup on the side since my spice tolerance is pretty low and i didn't end up using a single drop of the sauce on the roll haha. However, I wasn't a fan of the mustard slaw (at all :/, tasted simultaneously bitter but also really bland) and in hindsight, should've swapped out that side with something else when ordering. I wish they had just stuck to a regular slaw :( Finally, was a huge fan of their blueberry pie! The portion size was kind of smaller than we expected but it tasted so fresh and lovely. The crust was really flaky, the blueberries were super ripe and had a balance between sweetness and tartness, and I loved the extra sprinkling of sugar right on top of the pie! read more

We were greeted by a friendly staff member and sat outside on the upper deck. This place was recommended by the bartender at the Barnacle bar down the street as having the best lobster roll. This was our third attempt at a lobster roll while in Maine. It was the best by far. The lobster was fresh and served hat with butter (as it should be - not cold with mayo.) it's available in a 6" and 12" size. We started with the lobster bisque and opted for the extra lobster meat option. It seemed more buttery than creamy and was a bit unique compared to others I've had - all the same it was delicious and we enjoyed it. We ordered crab cakes with the lobster rolls. Plenty of crab in them. The only way I knew they contained bread crumbs was the menu stated they were not gluten-free. We also ordered the streamed quahog clams. The menu says quahog but in fact they are little necks. The waitress confirmed they always serve little necks, not quahogs (good thing as quahogs are too big and chewy.) As it was are last night in Maine, my wife also wanted to order oysters. They had 4 local varieties to choose from. We asked for a dozen and they were all delicious. My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here for our wedding in late October. Cyndi and Drew were so great at communicating with us in the months leading up to the event. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we arrived, they had a long table out on their heated patio and had decorated it with a beautiful blue tablecloth, twinkle lights, and a white table runner[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and had apps on the table ready for us when we arrived.
