I am a regular at Gourmet Inspirations. What brings me back regularly? It is tastefully decorated. The dim sum is very good compared to other dim sum restaurants in the area. They have dim sum carts on weekends and holidays. On weekdays, you can order dim sum from the menu. It earns the 5 star rating with cleanliness and outstanding customer service. The restroom is clean by any restaurant standards. The staff is so friendly that you feel welcome. It is overall a very pleasant dining experience. Parking - The restaurant has a few parking spaces in the front. I don't use it because you may have to move the car for others to get out. There are one hour parking meters in front of the restaurant at 75 cents an hour and a county parking lot a couple stores down. Parking can be a little challenging on a busy Saturday. Absolutely disgusting. Picked this "slightly" higher end place, but was I wrong. Food was prepared with minimal effort. Fish tasted old rotten and reheated. Absolutely no flavor besides the taste of dead rotten fish. There is this foreign object in my shrimp, hair? A brush? Disgusting. We arrived at 2pm on Sunday. No waitress or waiter came by to our table. We saw other worker cleaning up dishes but saw no dim sum carts are coming out of the kitchen. I asked the waitress, will there be more dim sum and she said "yes, it is coming". We Waited and waited nothing is coming out from the kitchen. I asked the same waitress again, and she said dim sum is coming. Still nobody stopped by our table to ask if we need anything. I asked the same waitress for the 3rd tim about 30 mins into sitting, now she goes, " i dont know why dont you ask the manager". The manager came by and he said "dim sum stops at 2 and you need to order from the menu." Nobody informed us, nobody gave us the menu. Start of by saying that the dim sum here is very good but the service is awful. They are all over the place and you constantly have to flag down someone to get anything at all. Another thing I wasn't a fan of was that the cart selection was very limited. It's possible that you're supposed to special order it directly if you want something in particular but like I said in the prior paragraph, service sucks! Finally the last thing I'd like to mention that I did not like is that we were eating with disposable plates and utensils. So weird and not environmentally friendly. Great place for dim sum on the weekends. In addition to all the various dim sum dishes, we also had the seafood with pan fried noodles and the beef chow fun with gravy. The pan fried noodles were especially good and had a nice crunchy texture. The baked buns were hot, which is not always the case in many restaurants. There is currently a Groupon+ deal here for a % back on your credit card, which is a great deal. Ate here on July 21, 2019. To sum up my whole experience there, I would say this would be my last time visiting. It's overhyped and overpriced. The dim sum begins at 10am I believe and we came in at 11:30am. It took us 15 minutes to seat 3. It was super busy so I would suggest going earlier. We got seated in the back corner where there was no light. Also they will put tea cups at your table to try to automatically charge you $5 don't fall for that. Afterwards we wait another 10min give or take to wait for the carts to come around with food. After we got a few items there was only 1 cart going around for a whole packed restaurant. They surely dont know how to time and cook food accordingly. So the wait continued. I also noticed as people come and go, they clean the tables poorly. It's not sanitary. Now to the food, I must say it's decent however the price range for most dim sum items fall under this bucket: A:$3.49 B:$3.99 C:$4~ D:$5.79 which is wicked expensive. Visiting my son at UMD from NY where we are experienced dim sum connoisseurs. Based on the reviews and ratings we tried GI and it was everything we wanted and consistent with the reviews. We were seated immediately on at Saturday at 11:45. Food was available from the carts as we sat. Chili paste on all tables, we like that! Shui Mai, Har Kow all hot and great taste. Sticky rice in lotus leaf was huge and hot with multiple sausages, we like that. They had Go fa cha with rock sugar! A little pricey but you get a huge pot of tea. The chive dumplings were amazing, both crispy edges and soft interior. Shrimp rice noodle were nice and hot and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. Spare ribs with black bean sauce good. Gai lan with oyster soy sauce was perfectly steamed. Char sui bao were excellent. Service was friendly and available. There was a whole other non dim sum menu too we didn't explore but we saw a roast duck come out that looked divine. We strongly recommend this restaurant for dim sum. I would give this place a 2.5 for their dimsum and 3.5 for their regular Chinese entrees hence the 3.0 average review. I typically only order dimsum to go here and I know what to expect. This place definitely ranks lower in our rank of dimsum restaurants but it's the closest to where I live and very convenient so we like to get it periodically. It's typically a solid 3.0 but todays dimsum was not very good. The tripe is typically my favorite dish and todays lacked seasoning, color and it's typical green onion garnishes. It smelled funky and felt undercooked almost or perhaps unfresh? After eating it, myself and my partner both experienced upset stomachs. I don't think we'll be returning for dimsum anymore. The parking in front of the restaurant is very limited, but they now allow parking across the street by the Bank of America. So dim sum in MoCo used to be owned by Oriental East and New Fortune. Now there are some others who are in play. One of which is Gourmet Inspirations. I'm gonna list the two knocks on this place here at the outset and then share why I still gave them 5 stars. 1st, the parking at this place is a catastrophy. If you're planning to eat-in do NOT plan to park in their parking spots. Park on the street and walk. 2nd, it is just a tad more expensive than another excellent dim sum place just up the road. So here's why I'm still giving Gourmet Inspirations 5 stars: The food is excellent. They have BEEF shumai which I've never seen or tried before and it is tasty and flavorful. The dude at the counter has a 100% grasp of the English language which makes ordering over the phone sooooo much easier. The portions are large (not by number, but by physical size). The staff are super friendly and helpful. Their shark fin dumplings are called "shark fin dumplings" instead of "dried scallop dumplings." Their hot oil is hella hot and amazing (easily the hottest I've tried in the DMV). I think you need to take this place for a spin. I'm most definitely going back. read more

Gourmet Inspirations used to be my jam in the DC metro as far as dim sum goes, after Oriental East closed down. Since the lockdowns in 2020, I haven't been back. So it was a very pleasant surprise today when I went with my family and found that they're still producing some of the best quality dim sum for the DC region. Highlights: The changfen/cheungfun have pretty thin, delicate wrappers. The fried dim sum (xianshuijiao, yujiao, etc.) come out crispy, not too oily, and leave a clean aftertaste, which is important to me as far as fryer oil sanitation practices go at Chinese restaurants. The shrimp stuffed eggplant still had a crisp bite to them. The hargao/xiajiao also had a clean taste and aftertaste. Overall, I want to give Gourmet Inspirations 5 stars considering they far outpace their competition in the DC metro. However, I left it at 4 because all the things Gourmet Inspirations does really well are, end of the day, the basic techniques that every dim sum restaurant should master. When I compare Gourmet Inspirations to the various local restaurants serving dim sum in Southern China, Vancouver, or Toronto, it changes the formula for a five star rating. read more

I'm really glad they give you the option to order takeout using yelp (powered by Grubhub). I made an order for Father's Day and it was so simple and easy! Also glad you can order their dim sum items to go - definitely been craving dim sum during the stay at home order. My family's personal favorites are the lobster with ginger and fried taro. The food was package very well for takeout and was still hot when we brought it home. With area dim-sum location at a scarcity, it was nice discovering this little gem tucked away on the little strip near the IHOP. Parking in front is non-existent and best used for a quick run-in and pick-up of a call-in order. Plenty of parking in the county lot 1/2 a block away. Prior to COVID, the dining room is actually nice and looked "newer" than normal Chinese restaurants that have dim-sum. Currently, with COVID restrictions, we've been calling ahead for pickup. Fair warning: this place is extremely popular and you'll have to give them almost an hour on busy weekends. But it is well worth it. For true connoisseurs, this is the best place for the all-too-elusive-perfect pan-fried turnip cake. (not the taro). Trust me on this one. Finally, they have a nice simple one-page menu for easy dim sum ordering which can even be faxed. (I'll look for it and try to remember to post it) The fellow who answered the phone first thing today was very polite and speaks English perfectly. Overall our food was fine but a bit on the bland side, nothing stood out as special that would make us want to go back when there are other choices in MoCo. It really doesn't deserve 4 stars. Pan fried dumplings are fine, like everywhere else; the Taro dim sum lacks the layer of sweetness that those are known for; the Kung Pao chicken lacks flavor - I requested extra spicy but it wasn't even a little bit spicy; the Shredded beef is 75% vegetables, quite a rip off for the price of that entree. Wow. I did not expect this place to be this good, but we were really impressed! As a party of 6 looking for an "upscale" Asian meal, we chose Gourmet Inspirations because they had lazy Susans and round tables (which I think are the best for conversation with a party of 6 or 8). I always prefer an actual Chinese dinner menu over traditional dim sum offerings, so we made it a point to come here in the evening so we could order à la carte, as opposed to "from a cart". Haha We ordered several entrée items with the intent of creating a mini-banquet of sorts, and everything came out better than or as expected! Pan Fried Dumplings ($6.95): Homemade appearance with a thicker skin and a nice sear. So good, we ordered another set of these for dessert. :) The chili oil they brought out was perfect with the rest of the meal. Unfortunately, they were out of Baby Clams in Black Bean Sauce ($17.95), so we ordered: Sautéed Fish Fillets in XO Sauce ($14.95): Great flavor, and served with "bonus" vegetables - celery and snowpeas. Black Pepper Steak ($14.95): A bit on the saucy side, but the beef was well-velveted and tasty. Unfortunately they weren't able to serve this on a hot plate, but it was a good dish anyways. I asked for there to be added Broccoli on the plate to complete the dish but they forgot it... Next time! Stir Fried String Beans, Szechwan-style ($11.95): These were tasty and as expected. And appealingly wrinkled from a good fry and wok sear! Beef Chow Foon (no sauce) ($13.95): Tasty as expected. Could be a little less oily next time... Nice portion, though! Braised Tofu, Ma Po Style w/Meat ($10.95): As expected. The tofu was a little firmer than I'm used to with this dish, but the overall effect and flavor was very good and authentically seasoned. Salted & Spiced Crispy Whole Shrimp (Head-On) ($16.95): Really nice-sized shrimp (10-15 count), and really good eaten whole with the shell and all. Crunchy and delicious. In the end, there was not a single bite of food left on our lazy Susan, which is always a good sign. One of my dinner mates commented that they had never loved *every* dish at a Chinese banquet-style meal until this one. Special thanks to Mike who took care of us and kept the Tsingtao bottles coming! Ask for some small rice bowls to eat out of for the old school banquet effect! My go to dimsum spot in the DMV, but this place is also great for lunch/dinner options with delicious and authentic Chinese food. Worth my 30 min drive to get here with the cheap prices and good food. One of my new favorites is their lunch special - 3 dishes and 1 soup for $28. The dish portion sizes are good sized for the price, and the soup is a large to-go container as well. This lunch special has enough food to feed my family of 4 with 1 takeout order, and sometimes we even get 2 orders for multiple days of not cooking. This is hands down the best Dim Sum/Cantonese restaurant in MD. While it definitely depends on which server you have, the service has improved drastically in the last 4 years. The current owner Drew is such a nice guy. He really cares about the quality and customer satisfaction. We've become such regulars, so when we were really disappointed when we had to move further away. We still try to make the trip out to support one of our favorite MoCo spots! The dim sum is so good. The options aren't as plentiful as some other establishments but everything we've had is on point! Naturally, dim sum can get super busy. So you'll probably almost always have to wait for a table unless you get there right when they open, or closer to when dim sum ends. The dinner menu is great too. Definitely my go to spot for dim sum. Visited today with a group of five people. There wasn't a wait, as we were immediately seated and greeted by the waitress. We ordered about 20-25 different dishes. My favorites included the shumai, dumplings, and chicken feet. The total ended up being really cheap as we split the check evenly totaling $15. Returned for lunch with my dad and girlfriend. During the weekday, we order dimsum off of a paper sheet. It's nice because the food comes to our table within 5 mins and we get to order everything at once. Because this restaurant is attached to Cam Ranh Bay, we were able to order items off of their menu and it was brought to our table. Perfect combination of Dim Sum and Vietnamese Food. read more

Came here on a Sunday after hearing about the Dim Sum. Turns out you gotta get here early they close Dim Sum at 3pm. The menu has a huge selection and the plates are bigger. One dish is good for 2 persons or a meal for take out. A lot of the dishes are cooked w out salt and pepper. So they are not fully flavor full. In some restaurants you have to ask for a glass of water, not in this case The server provided complimentary tea and water, thats a plus. Attended a wedding here last night and the food was amazeballs!!! I judge a wedding based on the food and this one did not disappoint. It reminded me of my own wedding food 8+ years ago at China Garden in Rosslyn. Crab balls, ginger scallion lobsters, steamed sea bass...oh yes oh yes! Even my picky daughter ate every dish. I saw a lot of tables packed their leftovers to go but not our table, our table full of fat@$$es and a toddler nearly cleaned every plate. I need to come back here for dim sum at sum point. Visiting Silver Springs for family and dined here on a Saturday night with a party of ten. The staff was excellent and got out all of our dishes quickly. I'm terrible at remembering every dish when eating at Chinese restaurants, but I definitely remember some highlights. I'm a certified carnivore, but their water spinach (ong choy) was just delicious. The leaves were soft and the stems were perfectly cooked, I was piling them on my plate. The garlic was also superb. The crispy shrimp was also a favorite. Fried well enough to eat them shell and all. My only complaint was that, although the whole fish was still tasty, the meat was not as tender. The other dishes were all high quality food, a place I would definitely come back to, if I lived here. read more
