It was my first time to try food at Amore Eats, today 2/8. Everyone I know has been raving about Amore Eats. I was so excited to walk in and to try the food today. I ordered the Taiwanese style "Popcorn chicken" and once it was done, I sat down right away to take a bite. I took three bites and it was so flavorful and all of a sudden I realized when I looked at the chicken it wasn't cooked and raw. I then thought it was just me and took two more bites of the chicken and realized some of the chicken were raw and some were cooked. I was so sad inside. I let the owners know right away and they said would you like us to make you another one. I felt uncomfortable to eat it again and said no thank you I would just like my refund. They asked me if I wanted anything else and I said no thank you. I was just sad because I wanted to really enjoy what I ordered and my stomach felt sick after knowing I ate raw chicken bites when it ate into the chicken. Sadly it was very important for me to write this review because I did get sick from what I ate and have not felt good for the rest of today till the evening. Omg yes! We literally went on a roadtrip from northern Va to check this place out and I'm so glad we did. I grew up in the San Gabriel valley in LA, and Taiwanese food cannot be beat there.. so of course we had to go to the best Taiwanese restaurant in the dmv! It did not disappoint. The popcorn chicken was light, crispy, and good flavor and decent portion. Solid 4/5! The beef noodle soup, it was honestly just okay? The flavor a little lacking and the noodles were a little on the softer side than I would've liked. The beef....lots of gristle/fat and pretty thick cut. Honestly not used to having this thick cut of beef with so much fat on it...was a still somewhat tender but just wasn't my favorite or my style. 2/5 The hamburger bao buns were decent, interesting flavor and soft bao. The pork belly was tender ~ish but a little dry. 3/5 Overall, I'd just come for the chicken. The main drawback for me is the lingering cigarette smoke smell that seemed to come from the kitchen which is a huge turn off for me personally. So this is the Amore Eats everyone was talking about. I'm late to the party, I know, but I have to say it was a great experience! It literally shares space with a gas station, so that means two tables for dining and rather limited parking. Otherwise, it's easy to spot from outside. I went in and there was one pair about to order. There are two touchscreen kiosks, and the staff are there to answer any questions too. I decided to try the popcorn chicken, braised pork rice, and 'burgers'... and a friend also got stinky tofu for the table to share. No complaints about anything, except for -- you guessed it -- the stinky tofu. It was my first time LOL. It tasted great, but that smell, whew. Honestly, the food didn't wow me, the noodle was good portion but tasted a little bland, the popcorn chicken was crispy but I think I had better? I was excited for the pork trotters, because it's one of the rare Taiwanese/Chinese dishes that you can find here. Hidden Gem! Don't let the location fool you -- yes, it shares a building with an Exxon, but the food here is fantastic. We ordered the pork braised rice, beef noodle soup, and Taiwanese popcorn chicken, and everything was outstanding. Originally came here as kind of a joke, the idea being that gas station Taiwanese food, it can either be really bad or the best thing we've ever had. I'm happy to report that it was the latter. The interior is split in half, one half gas station, the other half are some small tables and a few chairs. There is a small desk to order from, with menus, and some pictures of the food. The food itself was great. Really strong authentic flavors and super warm food, as everything is made as you order it. There's limited seating inside, luckily it wasn't too busy when I went. I got the braised pork bowl, beef noodle soup, and the popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken was the best. It was crispy, well seasoned, and addictive! $10 for a decent portion too. Not too greasy but the chicken was very juicy! The beef noodle soup was very good. It came with a good amount of beef chunks. The beef was tender with some bits of fat in it, but it wasn't overly fatty. If you guys have had Bun Bo Hue before, it's very similar to that. The noodles were okay, I would have preferred a little more chew to them. The broth was very flavorful and had a little bit of spice to it. The braised pork rice bowl was decent. You do smell the gasoline. HOWEVER, I would argue that you will eventually trade in the smell of gasoline for the smell of good, authentic, Taiwanese food. We took ours to go and ate it at a picnic table at a nearby park the first time we went. Everything is delicious, but the standouts were the Taiwanese burger (pork bao) with sugared toasted crushed peanuts--Perfectly savory, tender with varying texture elements and the popcorn chicken which was perfectly crispy, juicy, spiced and not greasy. The braised pork with rice is stellar and so homey. The dumplings were hot, fresh and generously filled albeit a tad overcooked, but the flavors and portion size made up for the texture. You can order in person or at the digital kiosk. The paper menus might not have everything (didn't see the night market chicken or steak on the paper menus) so it doesn't hurt to ask and check. The beef noodle soup had tender beef and well cooked noodles. The broth was missing... something, but it was all consumed. The toppings included some small pickled greens, scallions, cilantro, and some baby bok choy. The popcorn chicken was the favorite, good amount of seasoning and fried basil. Lots of crunch on the outside and juicy tender meat inside. The eel bento came with sides that were not pictured. There was crumbled pork on the rice with Taiwanese sausage. If you don't eat pork, you don't seem to have a lot of options. I wish we had asked what the sides would be since in the sides was an ingredient the person eating was mildly allergic to. The menu is filled with authentic food from those found in night markets in Taiwan to bento boxes. Stopping inside on a Saturday evening around 6 p.m., there was a healthy flow of customers. Order on a screen by the register and your food can be packaged for takeout or you can stay there and make use of the many sauces on the counter. Making a rookie mistake, my wife, seven-year-old daughter, and I each order our own entree. The portions are so big that we could have gotten two and be content. So...when I first heard about this place on IG, I thought, WHAT! WHERE HAVE I BEEN? HAVE I BEEN UNDER A ROCK? We stopped by on a Saturday around 1:30 pm, place was pretty much empty, we ordered for dine in. There are about 3 tables you can sit at in addition to the counter along the window. We ordered the Braised Pork over Rice, popcorn chicken, and seeing as it was feeling like -20 degrees outside, the Beef Noodle Soup. All the food cane in take-out containers, with disposable utensils. Braised Pork Rice: Easily the best dish, although I am a sucker for a rice bowl. I liked how the pork was chopped in tiny little pieces, and man do I love a soy egg! It all made for a satisfying flavorful bite each time. The pork was tender, and the portion was decent. I'd come back any day of the week for this. Popcorn chicken: Good, but as other reviews noted, probably not the best. David wished that it came with rice similar to the braised pork dish, and I have to agree. Although they do give you a lot of chicken and it was crispy, and had good flavor. Beef Noodle Soup: This one was a miss unfortunately. I found the soup and the beef pretty bland. When I order a beef noodle soup I really want to be engulfed by its deep umami flavors. Plus side was they give you a ton of meat in this one too. I didn't like how the noodles (which were wide noodles) were almost overcooked/broken into pieces by the end (see photo). They also put Chinese lettuce but I felt it was too much, and it was the hard stalk part of it too which I found distracting. There were 2 water dispensers on the side near the drink fridge, and my first cup of water from the white machine on the left had some flecks in which I found a little off putting. I tried another cup using the machine on the right which appeared fine. Overall, this was a solid 3 (significantly raised with the Braised Pork Rice). Lots of menu options so I'm sure there are other great dishes that we just didn't try (wanted to try the bao buns, but they sell them in 4s, and I only wanted one). Food here is awesome. My family didn't like the Chinese sausage and sticky rice but fuck them... it was awesome. The Chinese sausage tasted kind of like a longanesa had a baby with yan-yan Chinese sausage... so it appealed to my Filipino side. Everyone like the popcorn chicken so not much to say about that. The ground pork and rice was good but wished there was a bit more meat. The tawainese meatball is huge... and the bao and pork belly was probably the weakest in my opinion but still enjoyable.
