Visited August 17th..see receipt. I came in to order their shrimp with nuts and noticed the price is now 22 dollars. Unfortunately it doesn't come with anything- not even rice! I decided to pass on it and just got some steamed rice. They are never crowded in there which is unfortunate because their fried rice alone is delectable! The man that waited on me turned two people away because the dish they were going to order he said had very little beef in it. His attitude was a bit of a turn off. Maybe he was just having a bad day! I doubt i will be back when i am in the area. Hopefully if they bring their prices down they will have more customers to stay competitive! read more

We tried a local gem--Gourmet Kitchen, hands down, the best Chinese food in town. With Chinese cuisine, it's all about the sauce, and they absolutely got it right. We ordered cashew shrimp, Mongolian beef, chow mein, and potstickers, and every single dish was delicious. My husband couldn't stop raving about the sauce on the Kung Pao shrimp. It's a small, unassuming spot near Marshall's, but don't let that fool you--go in and order the food. It's so good. The owners are incredibly kind and genuinely want you to enjoy their food. We had a really nice conversation with the owner, which made the experience even better. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we'll definitely be back. I wish I had taken photos of our dishes. Had very bad experience picking up food on Friday. I wasn't able to eat the food as the styrofoam container seemed to melt away. I didn't open the bag until I got home and all the food was in the bag! I brought it back and was told that I was the one that broke the styrofoam. My 2nd visit. Their food is veggie forward. Not oily, but flavor forward. I'd never seen War Wonton soup you could actually see thru the entire container. What, you were actually getting! :0 I've made a billion chickens for my rotties. Pressure cooked the bones, making stock for nutrients for them. This man's broth, reminded me of my home made. I ordered Cashew Chicken, pan fried noodles, and Wor Wonton soup. That soup I swear would cure any ailment. Such al lovely amount of zuchini, dumplings, mushrooms, and broth! The waitress was incredibly rude and condescending from the moment we entered. Having a 7-month-old baby, we need some things such a warm water to make a bottle. When I asked for the warm water, after trying to get her attention and being ignored for the first 10 minutes, she mumbled "Crap" under her breath. Then it took another 5 or 6 minutes to receive scalding hot water and a small container of ice cubes. I actually had to start breastfeeding my baby in the restaurant because she was impatient. She only had 3 tables when we came in, and she was "too busy" to help us. I don't mind waiting to be served, but I do mind waiting to be served and getting an attitude because she didn't want to get me the warm water I needed. We ended up having to get our food to go because our baby was throwing a fit, but we heard other people getting just as frustrated if not more with the service. The food is great. Unfortunately the service isn't so much. The problem is, when we got home, we were missing food. We didn't want to drive back into town for 2 egg rolls though. We have been going to Tong Fong Low for the past 60 years but decided to give this place a try. We were very surprised with how good everything tasted! I'm not a big egg roll fan but these were light and crispy and the filling was excellent. We loved the cashew chicken and the sweet and sour pork was the best I have ever had. Our waitress was excellent and the chef came out to see how we like our meals. We told him we will be back soon! The place was very clean. This is a hidden gem. Everything I had was the best I've ever had in Nor Cal except for the egg roll, which was a tad soggy. Everything else was incredible. Way overpriced meal. We ordered the family dinner for two which came with chicken salad, Mongolian beef, fried rice and general chicken. Salad was lettuce, a couple of slivers of carrot and a handful of fried chicken. Mongolian beef was more of Mongolian vegetables, it only had about 4 pieces of beef. The food is excellent. I've never had cheese wontons, they were delicious. I would've been happy just to eat the chowmein, it's soo good and fresh. You will not be disappointed. I am deducting 1/2 star because they still have not replaced the sign with the new business name (they opened five months ago), and another 1/2 star because the server never came back to refill our drinks, we were the only ones in the restaurant and he didn't come back until we were clearly finished eating. Can I give it a zero point zero? The food was so salty it was completely inedible! The waitress did not offer to take it back when I said it was way to salty to eat. Instead she suggested "the next time you come in, ask for less salt". UH, there is NOT going to be a next time! My partner's food was equally over salty. HORRIBLE! Don't let the outside of this place deter you. I've ordered take out from here twice, and have been pleasantly surprised each time! Having recently moved to oroville from chico I was hoping to find a place that held a flame to my beloved Happy Garden and it did not disappoint. Portions were absolutely huge, which made the price worth it. A bit more than I'm used to for Chinese but the quality and portions are there. We paid $50 for house chow mein, broccoli beef, sweet and sour chicken, a large soup and egg rolls. We like to have lots of extra Chinese and we get about 3 full meals out of this. Also, another reviewer mentioned they would not let them take soup to go but I ordered it to go and even saw another lady carry out some too, so not sure if that was just a weird mix up. Just thought I'd mention it. I personally think it's much tastier and less greasy than Tong Fong Lo. Owner thanked me by name when I picked up my food and offered to carry it out to my car. My brother and his wife took me here because they claimed it to be one of the best Chinese restaurant in oroville. I was skeptical about it. Upon walking in, we were greeted with a welcoming smile from the server. We were seated right away. The food came out at a reasonable time and it was delicious! The owner would check on us multiple time to see if we needed anything. The server lady also checked on us and refilled our drinks. Everything we had was fresh and delicious. I ws so excited to get Chinese food. Unfortunately, this place was a big disappointment. When you order takeout, they should never put the sauce on it if it is deep fried. It should be given in a separate container. The shrimp with walnuts and sauce would have been good fresh, but having the sauce added made the shrimp mushy. The other issue was the chowmein. This family restaurant is clean, seats about 30 people. They are very friendly and hard working. The food was fresh, hot and prepared with tender loving care. It is very apparent they take pride in what they present to you. We ordered the B dinner for two. You could easily feed four people. The egg soup was hot and very good. The beef dish was very good. The beef was prepared just right. Chicken dish was excellent along with the BBQ fried rice. The rice was a treat. Service was excellent. What can I say. Excellent value for price. Okay. I didn't have super high expectations for Chinese food in Oroville, but that's what we felt like and the ratings were pretty good. I probably would have given it 3.5 stars for the food (standard Chinese fare and decent service) until we had a weird interaction at the end of the meal. There were two of us and we ordered the lunch specials to eat there. I noticed that the menu said "no soup on to go lunch specials". Okay, I get that. Pretty standard. But at the end of the meal, we wanted to take our leftovers to go. The server would not let us take the soup! He said "No soup to go!". I tried to explain that we just wanted to take the remainder of what we ordered for there. He gave us boxes for the rest of the meal but wouldn't budge on the soup. I asked if we had ordered the lunch special and he said "no". Clearly we had. We were served soup and an appetizer and that's how we were charged. So strange that I gave up. Maybe it was a language barrier. Maybe they just don't have to go soup boxes. But I thought it was pretty bad that we were not allowed to take leftovers of what we paid for. It's this kind of stupid rule that gives a place a bad reputation. Everyone told me Tong Fong is better, even though the reviews are lower. The worst Chinese food ever experienced, ordered to go, order was incomplete, soggy and some not fit to eat. Most was likely yesterdays left-overs. We called and went back with the items that were terrible, soggy and wrong. They refused to refund any portion of the bill, replace the food with freshly made, they would do nothing. The $109.00 bill is the last dime they will get out of me. Beware of this place, I would have felt better if they hit me over the head and took the money out of my wallet!!!!!! read more
