This is NOT Lucky Jin, despite the signage. I was hesitant coming here as I was confused based on the mixed reviews, but glad I took a chance. SUPER CLEAN dining room. Most Chinese places I have gone to around the country always seem sleezy, but not this place. Big portions, enough for my family of three (Lemon Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Noodles). Also, not the prepackaged same old same old you get from other places. Food here appears to be fresh, cooked quickly, and is really good. It cost us about $35.00 for our order but we had leftovers.. Very yummy and great service! I have no complaints about the food. It was ready in 10 minutes and was pipping hot when I received it. I ordered takeout and the food was wonderful. I do not usually eat processed or sugary food so I really appreciate flavor. The food from this restaurant had great flavor and the ingredients were fresh and not salty. This is the kind of Chinese Restaurant that give Chinese restaurants in general a bad reputation, e.g., seething waiter who offers no consolation at our returning our soup which was too spicy to eat; and then there was the rice too hard to chew, sauces so generic and tasteless and overwhelming what few veggies were in our dishes. Firstly I want to say that the staff were friendly, there the good experience ended. I ordered cashew chicken to dine in, overly salty, bland and tasted like really cheap chinese food. It was $12. I also ordered beef chow mein to go and brought it to my husband. That also tasted stale and bland , and then when he was eating it , he chewed on what turned out to be a curled shard of metal! Like I said, friendly staff but not worth the $30 lunch and the near brush with death! I went in by myself at the same time as a group of 10 went in. We were the only customers during my visit. The waitress took my order first. My entire order consisted of a bowl of soup and a soda which was brought to me within 5 or 10 minutes. The waitress spent the remainder of my visit with the other table. She never once looked my way nor came to check on me. She was not working alone as periodically a gentleman would come out and check on the other party as well. They treated them as though they were royalty. Constantly asking how they were enjoying their food and if there was anything they needed. He never looked my way nor checked on me either. We have been to Gourmet Kitchen many times and each time it was wonderful- the service, the atmosphere, the owner, Ming, and the food...all excellent but after saying this I have to share our most recent visit. Four of us went to Gourmet Kitchen to celebrate New Years Eve - not very festive but we love the friendly atmosphere. We were greeted with hugs and smiles from Brittany and Ming and and taken to our table. We ordered a ton of food - each of us choosing our favorite entree to share. We started with the hot and sour soup, then Ming surprised us with Chinese Chicken Salad, Cream Cheese wontons and a lovely glass of Chardonnay. While enjoying our first courses, the best part of the evening began - our wonderful host Ming delighted us with 2 beautiful Arias...his clear, emotional, trained voice took us all by complete surprise and I feel everyone in that restaurant was moved and some of us close to tears...can you beat that anywhere else? Then our entrees arrived...almost anti-climatic after what we had just witnessed but I said "almost"...our food was excellent and all four dishes so different...my favorite is the crispy fried beef...the flavors just burst in your mouth and the beef so tender, Honey Walnut Chicken a close second. All in all this was a great New Years Eve but the food is ALWAYS this special...what else can I say other than if you haven't been here -please go. Saw this place while leaving the grocery store and figured I'd give it a try. Went in with low expectations, but also figured - hey, it's pretty hard to screw up Chinese food. It'd be like screwing up a sandwich. Ordered shrimp with lobster sauce, beef chow fun, and chicken chow mein. The shrimp was maybe taking a bit of a risk for a small place in Oroville, but again, figured it couldn't be that bad. The rest is pretty standard stuff. Man, the food was just not good. Really, really bland, tasteless yuck. Shrimp in lobster sauce was teeny-tiny cocktail shrimp dumped into leftover wonton soup. Man, really? The beef chow fun had 3 or 4 tiny pieces of beef mixed in with tasteless noodles. Even the chicken chow mein was bad. Gourmet Kitchen is my go-to! The Honey Walnut Prawns are superb.I love that Gourmet Kitchen's food is not too greasy, comes in big portions, and has an excellent price. Every time I have dined-in, my family and I have had a wonderful experience with the servers - They have a welcoming vibe, refill our drinks timely, and give good descriptions of the food. Out of habit everyone in town goes to Charlie's - but if they knew about this place, it would be empty. This place is worlds above Charlie's. The food is like home cooked, with fresh vegetables prepared well. Although the dishes seem a bit more expensive - the servings are large enough that you don't feel cheated. Tong Fong Low used to be my favorite Chinese stop in town. I've been living out of state for the past 7 years and every time I made my way home I would always stop in. However, the quality of their food has steadily declined over time. Gourmet Kitchen has filled that void. The owner and his chef have 20+ years of restaurant ownership and experience. I was craving some wor wonton soup on a cold day and this place did not disappoint. I called in the order and it was ready when I got there in under ten minutes. The taste was so good that when I told my husband about it when he got home from work we went back for more and I had it again for dinner. It was that delicious. Don't believe all the hype that they've replaced Tong Fong Low. The truth is it really depends on which dish you order. For me the sweet-and-sour chicken was better at Gourmet Kitchen but the special chow mein was not even close to Tong Fong Low. I went back to ask the guy for a side of sauce and all he wanted to do was hand me soy sauce packets. And no that wasn't lost in translation. If you are looking for all you can eat sushi, this is your place! If your looking for good Chinese keep going on down Myers till you get to Charlie's! Sushi is basic but delicious. Price is extremely reasonable. And children under 2 are free. For price I recommend it over the casino but casino has better options. We will continue to go here for sushi. Couple things to consider place is usually humid because of all the steam trays and smells like fish because of all the sea food options. So far, this is the BEST Chinese restaurant ever in town! They cook the most authentic foods with fresh ingredients and they don't make you wait long just to come get an order. Not only is everyone friendly but the food is amazing and reasonably priced we ordered a dinner for 2 For our 3 member family and they generously brought an extra soup and egg roll for our son. So far I have eaten here twice, and each meal was delicious and plenty of food to take home. I had the lunch of vegetable chicken mild spicy with rice and soup and spring rolls. This was more food than I could eat and very delicious. For dinner I had the Mushu vegetables medium spicy and they were so good I could hardly stop eating it. WOW.. first I made the mistake of thinking the szechuan chicken would be the breaded chicken with the dark creamy sauce that is so good, my bad. Second I asked for mild and was given very spicy. This was a to go order, so I drove 15 mi back in to town to to ask for maybe the sweet and sour chicken ( which is lesser in value) the owner said he would remake the same dish only. This or nothing. I said that this taste nothing like a szechuan plate and to spicy to eat. Than I asked for my money back, again the owner said no. I left his want a be dish on the counter and reminded him that happy customers are return customers. I know this because I am a restaurant cook and this concept is so obvious. I say: Bad customer service, bad attitude, and bad szechuan. No I will not return ! Further more if any one that ask me about this place I will say BAD, BAD and BAD. read more
