Web site advertises a lunch special from Mon-Sat and so I came in today, a Saturday, for that. Staff said no lunch special today. Completely wasted my time. Not sure if the food is good since I left. Hate when businesses advertise something on their own web site and then make no apologies when they change it. They could have honored the lunch menu or offered some sort of discount to not have me leave but they chose to just say "no lunch special" and shrug their shoulders. It was delicious and a nice change from our usual sushi bars. We got it delivered to Leander. If I recall correctly, the teriyaki chicken bento had a little too much vegetable and not enough chicken. And the tempura usually would have shrimp in the dinner option but ours didn't so I was surprised. For rolls we got a white dragon roll, salmon tempura roll and a spicy yummy roll. All were great. Great little family owned restaurant. It was my friend's go-to for Korean takeout during the pandemic so it was nice to come in person. Loved the assortment of banchan. I got the grilled mackerel and my friend got the dol sot bi bim bap (aka stone pot style! One that was definitely not available for takeout) I thought the mackerel was delicious! The fish was well seasoned so that it didn't need to be paired with a lot of rice (great if you're trying to reduce carb intake) and so delightfully crunchy at the edges. It was also oily, but that's expected because it's mackerel, so I just consider it an Omega-3 supplement. My friend enjoyed her bi bim bap experience. What won me over was the banchan - they were allll delicious and our server (I think she's like one of the owners or something) was generous and kindly refilled banchan as they were eaten up. Horrible experience ever at an any establishment. Went there for lunch and order their spicy pork aka(pork bulgogi). Took 2 bites and it was extra salty and tasted sour. Told the service lady. Which was probably the owner also. How it tasted and if can order something else. That's dish is suppose to be on the sweet n spicy side. She said it tasted fine b/c she took a bowl and got several pieces from my plate. She took it back anyways. So I was going to order something else but she would not let me and grabbed my drink. Told me to leave. I was never rude or confrontational. I was shocked. You can not treat customer like that. Place looks old and table stinky. Horrible!!! If you can have negative star. I went for lunch and it was quite open during that time. The owner was nice, but a bit awkward. The service was quick and prices are fair for a sushi/korean place in Austin. The sushi and rolls looked good, but I got the Soondubu because it was part of the lunch deal. The one missing star was because it was quite a mediocre bowl of stew with lackluster banchan. Second, I was presented with a bill to pay by card, and although it seemed a bit high, I paid it and tried to leave, only to be stopped and presented with a second bill I had to pay before I could leave. This place is running some kind of scam. The food is fine, the service is reasonable, but expect to be stolen from if you set foot in the place. There are better choices for sushi in North Austin. New ownership over Goya and it seems to be for the better! We noticed that the quality of all of the cooked food and sushi items have gone up and the ambiance of the restaurant is lighter and cleaner. Even the soy sauce was not watered down and my usual to katsu was so crispy and moist! Soup enthusiasts: the Spicy Tofu Soup. This soup is far from spicy, and if you order this with seafood, the seafood is scant, while the tofu is abundant. The tofu is soft and melts in your mouth, think of this as a nice, warm soup perfect for cold days. Goya is a small mom-and-pop place in Anderson Mills - same plaza as P. Terry's and Taco Bell. Food: The sushi and bento boxes can't be beat, particularly my fave, the pork katsu. For about $13, you'll get miso soup, a small side salad, two gyoza, six California rolls, one tuna and one salmon, rice, and two deep fried breaded pieces of pork filet. Everything is fresh, and made with care. Service: Friendly, greeted at the door. Cost: Very reasonable for what you get. Overall: Give them a go and support a local business. They, like everyone else, have been affected by the pandemic. They've since pivoted to phone orders and pickup. Good food, good service and great prices! We came for lunch from a recommendation and really enjoyed the sushi. The fish was so fresh and high quality, especially in the Japanese ceviche. Super large pieces of fish too! I really enjoyed all the rolls we got, but the Wow Samurai roll was probably my favorite. Plus they have a lunch deal where you can get 2 premium rolls for $13.95. Basically buy one get one free! Lunch is Monday - Saturday from 11-3 so I highly recommend getting lunch here. We were craving korean food and this was the closest and highest rated option. It looks underwhelming from the outside, but seriously, the food is DELICIOUS and the lady serving was so sweet. It was quiet when we walked in and there was calming music playing. My boyfriend got the beef bulgogi lunch bento box, and I got the spicy tofu soup and the dynamite roll. The bento box was really worth it. It came with beef bulgogi, rice, 4 pcs sushi roll, 2 pcs nigiri, miso soup, salad, and gyozas. All for $14!!! The roll and soup I got were great as well. The ginger dressing was thinner than I liked but it was tasty. The box came with six pieces of sushi, four of which were the California roll. It also included two Gyoza. The sushi and gyoza were good, not mind blowing but solid. Onto the tempura, there were two shrimps (short but crunchy) and four vegetable tempura. A white potato, a broccoli, sweet potato and a carrot, thank goodness no mushrooms. The dipping sauce was okay. Food was good enough to come back. The service was good. Then again the poor waitress was there alone running around serving four tables of two and a large table of 15 people. Which I should mention at this point, I was the only non-Asian there. The price was a bit higher than I normally pay for a bento box and the food was good so if I was in the area, I would eat here again. read more

While this is primarily a sushi place, I usually come here for the Korean food. Their Yuk Gae Jang (Spicy Beef Soup with sweet potato noodles) is so satisfying and so delicious. I think that they make the best I have eaten anywhere. Hearty, spicy broth with lots of shredded brisket. They always have outstanding, rotating house made banchan. There is always something new and delicious. Speaking of delicious, their kim chi is great as is the Dol Sot Bibimbap. Sushi wise, I have only had sashimi here. The sashimi is always super fresh and beautifully presented. The Avocado Salad is always great too. My go-to's during the summer. This is truly a Mom and Pop operation. While at times it can take a while for the food to come out, it's a quiet and nice restaurant that's fun to hang out in.
