    Japanese Curry
    Rebecca L.

A solid mom-and-pop spot that proves you don't need trendy decor to deliver a satisfying Japanese meal. We shared the tonkatsu curry and a sushi combo lunch which came with a roll, hand roll, nigiri, and miso soup), and it was more than enough for two people. The curry isn't Coco Ichibanya level, but honestly, finding decent Japanese curry in town is weirdly tough. This one hit the spot though as it was comforting, flavorful, and served piping hot. The sushi combo was $28, curry was $18, and yakitori skewers ranged from $4-$7 each. Definitely recommend the pork belly (crispy, fatty, and still meaty) and gizzards if you're into that. The only miss for me was the beef skewer, which came out a bit too done rare for my taste. Service was kind and attentive. It's the kind of place that makes you feel welcome and overall is a dependable local option when you're craving Japanese without a crowded hype.

    Calamari tempura
    Briana N.

I had a friend come here who said that out of Austin, this was the place that had food that was most similar to Japan in terms of look and taste. And although I've yet to go to Japan, that really incentivized me to check Miyo out. It was pretty busy on a Thursday evening, so we sat outside. But the servers were so quick to check on us and get our orders. And they were so friendly too! We got Calamari tempura - I don't usually think Calamari when I go to Japanese restaurants, so it was kind of a shot in the dark ordering these. But I'm so glad we did. The tempura batter was so crispy, and it just gave for a different texture than your normal calamari. And the sauce was delicious too. The squid was cooked soo tenderly. Like usually calamari has a bit of rubbery-ness to it. But biting through these was so smooth and soft, but not too soft that it didn't have a good bite to it. Miso soup - these came with two of the entrees, but it was so delicious! To be fair, I always love miso soup, but it has a good balance of saltiness. And just tasted so homey. Spicy salmon roll - this was just one of their house rolls so it wasn't anything too crazy. But the fish tasted pretty fresh. I do wish the roll was rolled a bit tighter because all my pieces were falling apart when I tried to pick it up. And I kinda expected more spice. Like I thought the salmon itself would be spicy or something. But it just had spicy mayo on it. Kakiage udon - probably my favorite dish of the night! The udon was still bouncy, the broth was light, but had a good addicting saltiness to it. And the veggie pancake was delicious! It doesn't get soggy too fast. And even when it does get softer, it still works with the noodles. Chicken katsudon - also delicious! The chicken was really tender and seasoned really well. Even the rice underneath, I was afraid it would be plain and that the sauce only permeated the top layer. But the whole bowl was really flavorful, without being too saucy. The pickled vegetable on top was way more sour than I expected though.

This was $10+ dollars. $5 dollar per stick and this is what you get. 3 pieces of Burnt dried, unseasoned chicken.

Other than the local prices, this place feels like a Japanese restaurant. The yakitori is standout--expertly grilled the skewer we ate delivered a rich, smoky bite with just the right char. The sushi is fresh and delicious. The matcha was the least matcha flavor I've had in a while but the cheesecake was still deliciously textured. With every bite, I loved the katsu curry more and more. The space feels intimate yet lively with almost every table occupied during the lunch hour. Prices are reasonable for the quality, making Miyo a great hidden gem for fans of authentic, no-frills Japanese cuisine.

Always excellent! 13 year old chose to eat at Miyo for his birthday dinner. He loves the Unagi Don and everything else there! It's a family favorite!

The food and service here are great! My husband came here for dinner on Valentine's Day. The food arrived quickly and all the sushi was very flavorful. The location is in a cute little shopping/dining strip area right off of Parmer Ln. We will be back!

    TONKATSU CURRY
    Cam H.

I enjoyed the nigiri sushi here. My favorites were the scallop and fatty salmon. Generous portion of fish. Toro was fatty enough, but some parts were a bit too chewy for me. Their rolls were well balanced, full of flavor and freshness but maybe a bit too much rice. I did like that the rice here wasn't too vinegary like other spots. The tonkatsu curry here was decent, but didn't blow me away. The pork tonkatsu was perfectly fried and crispy though. The sukiyaki dish was good! The eggs were soft, runny, and buttery. Service was just amazing. We had the sweetest lady as our waitress. She was so patient and accommodating. She made our dining experience so pleasant. Very cute spot. I would definitely come back, especially to take advantage of their lunch specials. They have a patio too, perfect for when it gets nicer outside.

    CHICKEN KATSU CURRY
    Andy G.

Walking in, it took me back to my time in Japan. The aromas were authentic. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry (Japanese curry is VERY different from Indian curry in case you were wondering, more sweet and mild). This was reminiscent of Japan for sure. I thought initially the price was a tad high, but the portion size is basically for two adults lol. I made the mistake of eating it all in one sitting (guess I'm not eating dinner lol). My wife chose the Sushi Bento . Sushi was top notch, tempura cooked to perfection....just feel like we traveled to Japan without the jet lag. very happy today!

    Eric G.

We came here for a late lunch and sat outside with our two dogs. The service was prompt and super friendly. The outside patio is clean and nice, only downside is it's on a busy and fairly loud street. We ordered three items: The edamame was pretty good, very garlicky with a slight kick. The two rolls, the Sarang roll and hot night roll, were both super tasty and a fair price. Overall I'd be tempted to go back for sushi if in the area, but probably to eat inside instead. Recommended if you're in the area!

Is charging $83.90 justifiable for any sushi restaurant?

I used to visit Miyo for their fresh sushi, but after a disappointing experience with a mischarge that they refused to correct, I will be telling my friends to avoid this place. I ordered 2 pieces of bluefin toro and 2 pieces of uni. Their menu requires you to write the quantity, and I wrote the same amount for both items. The server even mentioned the prices should be similar. But when the bill arrived, I was flabbergasted to see an $83.90 charge just for the blue fin toro. How can that be??? To charge that much without even warning the customer? For comparison, I recently paid $39 for unlimited sashimi at Sushi Warriors and had over 30 pieces, so I know I was being taken advantage of. I didn't finish the dish and, after seeing the bill, asked if they could take it back and offer a partial refund, thinking it might be a misunderstanding. Instead, the manager refused, saying that raw fish can't be re-served.. Their lack of empathy was disappointing, and it feels like they care more about making a profit than about making right with their customers :( Response to Business Owner: * I marked the menu for 2 piece sushi for the blue fin toro. * This is not true at all, at no point during the meal did anyone confirm the number of pieces, nor that it was sashimi instead of sushi. * Yes, I ate the sushi before I saw the bill. But if I had known the true price or seen the bill, I wouldn't have eaten any pieces. I called the next day to explain to the manager that there must have been a misunderstanding or pricing error. I hoped you would understand that an average person can't afford such a charge, and would consider issuing a partial refund, especially since I even embarrassingly offered to return my leftovers..

    GARLIC EDAMAME
    Marisa P.

Hidden gem alert!!!! Pleasantly surprised by this place! There's nothing like enjoying fresh sushi after a long week! Garlic edamame has a "special miyo garlic sauce" that I need the recipe to pronto! Can't go back to regular edamame ever again! Chicken teriyaki was good, but the sushi was where it's at! There's so many menu options, you can't go wrong. See you guys soon!!!

    CHICKEN KATSU DON
    G N.

Been a while since we came here and took us a while to track down 'that place which had yummy sushi'. We ate here once before for lunch and had an early dinner this time around. Still as delicious. The chicken Katsu don, baked scallop roll and the volcano rolls were all delicious, fresh and filling

The food itself was delicious, beautifully crafted, and felt customized in a way that made the night feel unique to us. It's the kind of omakase that doesn't take itself too seriously while still delivering seriously good dishes. I also highly recommend the sake and cocktail pairing. The bartender customizes it based on your preferences. I told her my favorite drink is an espresso martini and she made this really fun espresso, strawberry latte concoction. There is also a special house sake with an homage to the owner's cat. I love those personal details. It's always a great time at Toshokan, and I'll definitely be back again. You get to select the chop stick holder and chop sticks you'd like to use. I asked, they have at least a dozen I believe different chop stick holder options. They also do s personalized wood coaster with your name burnt into it. The selections were amazing with each one having a unique flavor that melted in your mouth. I added the sake and cocktail pairing which Nicole does amazing. I let her know I still kept the origami crane she last time was still on my counter at home. The service was stellar and they were easy to book on OpenTable I also tried the green tea mocktail and found it to be light and refreshing and I was happy that it wasn't super sweet My two favorite items were: 1. The Edamame - which were charred in a way that I feel like I've never experienced it before and had such great flavor. 2. The scallop roll had a thinly sliced shaved truffle on top that made the roll simple yet out of this world. Shout out to the manager who came by just to check in. My favorite maki rolls are the scallop chirashi and the A5, but the scallop maki is the one I crave most--it's so good. Their lychee martini is also delicious and not overly sweet. The Kyoto Blush, on the other hand, was far too sweet for me, so I wouldn't order that one again. I've tried a few other dishes as well. The wagyu sando wasn't quite what I expected, since the meat had more of a patty-like texture that I didn't think paired especially well with the milk bread. The wagyu donburi had a nice layer of crispy rice at the bottom after mixing, but there were too many sour and pickled components, which threw off the balance of the dish a little. Overall, Tenten is a solid spot, especially once you know which menu items you like. Service can be a bit hit or miss, but nothing bad enough to keep me from coming back.
