We often bring our granddaughters here for a movie afternoon. The ticket process is problematic but the kids try their best. They have the same overpriced snacks that bother places do, but the seats are comfortable and theres plenty of parking. We pulled into the parking lot and customers that just left the theater informed us that the workers were mad someone had pulled into the parking lot. Since we already had tickets we were surprised to see a worker trying to lock the entrance doors. When we walked in, all we got were stares from workers and "i thought he locked the doors" comments. Since they were actively closing, there was no popcorn for us to get. I would've assumed that we were the only ones in the theater and that they would've been able to go home had we not shown up. Wrong. There were around 15 people in the theater to watch the same movie as us. read more

Tried to lock us out of movie theater because they didn't want anyone else to buy a ticket. Continued to give us looks and complained.

Extremely poor customer service. My family goes to the concession stand and the Manager points and laughs at the family wearing face masks. My wife asks if they require masks and the Manager replies that they are supposed to wear masks but don't. I don't intend to debate on the pros and cons of masks but it's the principle of the matter. They have signs plastered on the entrance stating that face coverings are required. Then you are laughed at by the staff for adhering to their own company policy because the staff don't want to wear masks. read more

I read the reviews and people were pretty harsh. I live in a town of 30k. I was surprised they only have one theatre in town. The place was super clean, the prices to get in were really low (especially compared to others) and the concessions people said we're over priced... We're not they were normal movie prices. But they also had some cool deal packages that made it cheaper and no matter what size you can refill them they were of course free for the biggest and varied like 25 cents to 75 cents per refills on the other sizes (1.00 refill on icees). Their chairs were newer they didn't rock but we're comfortable. I really enjoyed this place. All and all I took my daughter and mother and we spent less than 50.00! Great night of family fun. The Capital 8 Theater used to be exceedingly clean and had excellent service. Sadly, it seems that ever since the theater came under new management, service went drastically downhill. As the only large theater in Jefferson City, Capitol 8 has no competition. This is very apparent. To begin, staff is rude and unprofessional. The door advertises a mask rule, yet none of the employees follow this. Now I am not opposed to no masks, as the theater is usually almost empty. But for the people that go expecting a covid-safe establishment, they will undoubtedly be let down. During our most recent experience, we kindly asked the employee to add our reward points to our account because we had forgot. We apologized and the employee proceeded to roll their eyes. The past two times I have gone I have walked past the managers desk and have seen an employee taking a hit of their juul. They 'tried' to discreetly blow the smoke to where customers could not see. Obviously this did not work, as I have seen it happen twice. This is not just an issue with customer service, but with common sense. Not only is customer service gone downhill, as has cleanliness. During times like this, is it crucial to be clean. But things like clean toilets, -the bare minimum even in a Covid free world- are non existent at Capital 8 Theater. We opened about three or four stalls before one was found that had toilet paper and a clean, flushed bowl. I was under the impression that seats were to be disinfected following the movie. To me, there was no sign of disinfected seats. I think it is only fair to give places the benefit of the doubt, but I just do not see one. They do seem to be extremely understaffed. However, this is not a proper excuse because most of the time there is no one in the theater to attend to. Certain things, like juuling inside, are inexcusable. It was disheartening to see an employee care so little to juul inside. Not to mention, the door is right by the desk. I am not sure what the root of the problem is, but Capital 8 has an obligation to fix it. As a long time movie goer, it is extremely disheartening to see what Capitol 8 has become. Going to the this theater used to be a great experience with friendly staff and a clean establishment. What used to be a strong five stars has become a strong one star. Now, we are left remembering what use to be, and hoping for change. read more

This place has become a complete shit hole. I am so disappointed! The fact that you even have to be 17 to go watch ANY movie past 6 is absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention them getting rid of the self serving soda machines. The man that helped us was a dumbass. He had no kindness, no respect, and he just did not know how to do his job. He should honestly be fired. I would not be surprised if this corporation gets shut down from no revenue. read more

Definitely needs to remodel, the Forum 8 (owned by the same company) needs has better seating, etc... It is the only "new movies" theater in Jeff. City, so they don't really have any competition. The closest theaters with recent releases are in Holts Summit, Fulton, or Columbia... I'd prefer to drive to CoMO, but ofter the family just wants to stay in Jeff. to watch the movies (my parents live maybe a mile away) when we come for a visit. Do yourself a favor, sign up for the rewards card on their website - it is free and you save ~$3.50 off of concession (soda and popcorn) combos. Of course, you get a paper bag instead of a bucket of popcorn. I wonder if I brought in one of those plastic popcorn tubs from a few years back if they would let me fill that up instead of the paper bag... it would help the environment, no? and them some money on supplies. So how you also accumulate points towards concessions... I don't really understand how it all works, I just like the $3.50 savings. They do offer a nice little kids snack deal - my nephew really liked it. I'm sure Forum 8 has it, too... I just haven't taken him to a lot of movies, yet. In the past, I have had some bad experiences with the staff here especially for the midnight openings. The staff (and these were managers) was just down right rude! For this reason, I just won't go to a midnight showing here any more. I will make the late night drive if I want to have a good opening night experience! read more

Boy oh boy. Capital 8 has NEW CHAIRS and NEW CARPET as of this year. They are still updating (June 2017). I enjoy this theater more than Columbias because it seems that people that watch the films are more respectful and talk less so the experience is more enjoyable. The prices are high in movies but as of right now Tuesday's are $6 movie days, I'm frugal so we usually go then. My biggest complaint is that the men's room is maroon tile and the ladies is green ha ha. Read the signs before you go in. read more

The seats a cracked and the the floors are always dirty. Witch you would expect floors to be dirty in a movie theater. But the Capital 8 floors are pretty dirty compared to others. The workers are too stressed and can sometimes be pretty rude. The movie quality is ok and the movie selection is pretty good. All the new releases are always at this theater. Overall, ok movie theater. read more

This was a step up in 1996. I remember seeing my first movie here (Dead Man Walking) and I thought it was amazing. I would see a majority of my movies here. This theater is far better than the Capitol 4, but they are the same company, if it goes there, it's not coming here. Soomebody should send that monoply. read more

When oh when is Goodrich going to remodel the Capital 8. Its nice to have a movie theater in Jefferson City but this one is about outdated as you can get. Watch the movie "the last picture show" in black and white and that movie theater is more up to date. Get it done! read more
