When you walk in it smells really good and does seem as if you are walking into a apartment. They have a small waiting room but once I finished filling out the paperwork we were met with right away. They have walls that divide some part of the spa but it's split by curtains which I didn't like. Usually spa's ask what kind of presser and which specific area you want but they just went right to massage. I went as a couples massage and I will admit I loved the lady who gave me a massage but my boyfriend didn't. He said she spent most of the time pushing down on his back before she really got into the massage. I liked how they used hot towels at the end. I went in looking for no frills massage for my tight hamstrings, lower back and neck after a stressful week. Man, did this place deliver ! The massage was great, the lady was able to increase , decrease intensity as per my instructions and I felt great relief afterwards. Honestly - if you are looking for a great massages, yes. If you are looking for a "spa", the curtain separates do little to block noise and provide tranquility. But it is clean and has good service. Graceful Spa is a great find and such bang for the buck! My cousin turned me onto this place. It is on the second floor of a building on 14th Street, so I was a bit dubious at first. I walked in and there was a small waiting area. Then I walked into the massage area and it was lovely, clean, and aromatic. My masseuse did a wonderful deep tissue massage for one hour and worked on my trouble spot on my back very well. It was only 60 dollars for one hour. I cant wait to go back again! read more

Visited Graceful Spa this past Saturday for a couples massage. Overall great experience, clean, perfect pressure, nice people. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the decor was more like an apartment with curtains than the usual spa. This did not change the quality of the massage though. It was ok. I don't need frills or fancy decor, I just ask for clean which this was. I also bought the groupon deal. I have to say the message was just ok. I had to ask her 4 times to increase the pressure, and when she did it didn't last long. Most of the massage just felt like somebody was rubbing lotion on me. As a runner I love massages, I have lots of knots and tight muscles. I walked out with nothing being different except I had some lotion on me. Spare yourself the experience. The ambience is far from what you would expect from a spa. The decor is far from what you would except from a spa. The set up is far from what you would expect from a spa. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place even if it was free. A few times the masseurs climbed on the bed with me to get to certain parts of my back. The first part I got massaged was my rear end. Curtains divide the space between you and the next client, so you hear everything going on around you. They don't wear uniforms. A kitchen timer goes off when your time is up and abruptly reminds you it's time to go. There was nothing relaxing or peaceful about the entire experience. read more

So you may have read my review on the lame "massage" I got from the Aveda spa in Pentagon City, VA. Graceful Spa, on the other hand, is like exactly what you need when you are on budget but want some results ASAP. This is a nicer version of the Graceful Services that is located on the upper 60s on the East Side. Don't be fooled - at $60/hr massage, what you see is what you get. The rooms are divided by curtains so you will hear other people getting their flesh pounded too, but I really couldn't care because I am usually getting my knots undone so that's all that matters to me. They once upgraded me and my husband a private room because that was all they had for a couple's massage, and it was pretty nice. I even tried out one of the more unconventional treatments where they literally scratch down your back with a flat stone - it really worked for me because I had the most terrible upset stomach from chowing down a jumbo slice in 10 minutes in a 30 degree weather, and that really did it. I am a firm believer in Graceful and whenever I come back to NYC I make it a point to make an appointment. read more

Researching this spa in accordance to Spa Week, most of the other top spas were booked on Sunday morning (Sunday April 17). By way of New York Magazine and other Yelp reviews, I took a chance on Graceful Spa and I have to say this was an excellent experience/choice. As captain of my Zogsports football team, I planned a Funday Sunday for my team which included team massages and brunch afterwards. Originally, I was scheduled for a hot stone massage but by some chance I was given the deep tissue massage. Upon waiting for my masseuse, I heard a male voice and I was totally comfortable with it. When it got to the part where he was applying a lot of pressure, he asked if he was going to hard. I immediately told him I was able to handle it with no problem as it felt good. He worked my whole body with increasing firm pressure throughout. He took the extra time to concentrate on my middle part of my back which was tied in knots. He was able to loosen them up and relieve those knots. The 50 minutes flew by and when the bell sounded, he gave at least 10 extra minutes because when I came out to the meeting room, my friends were waiting for me and the clock was well past an hour. When I got up and asked his name, he stated "Jackie". I instantly recalled Belinda's review and was actually pretty happy I got Jackie. With that in mind, I tipped him a $20 and told him I'd be back. I also highly recommend Jackie to anyone taking a massage. Next time I come back, I am asking for Jackie. I am thankful they gave me the deep tissue massage instead. The best advice I can give you is to remember your masseuse's name! I came here last year for a massage after getting a great deal during spa week and had a phenomenal experience. My friend and I booked the hot stone massage and the masseuse took out all the knots I had and I felt like jello after the massage. Since that first visit I have returned 2 more times, each time hoping to receive the same treatment but each time being disappointed. Experiencing pain for days after the massage is not normal. To cap it off, the last time I was there was for a couples massage where the masseuse massaging my fiance accidentally dropped the hot stone on the back of my fiances head! Instead of being professional about it and apologizing she apologized while giggling and continued to giggle about it after wards. After becoming a bit more massage-savvy. I went here a bunch over a couple years period. I would only recommend this place for newbies to the massage world, people who have zero expectations, and to those who have zero problems with privacy. I get better massages in a nail salon chair. The price is good for a massage, but the massage was not so good. No privacy at all. You are in a room with a group of tables, behind a white curtain, changing. I saw someone next to me putting his/her pants on between the space between the wall & the curtain. Maybe I am a prude, but that freaked me out. Also, noise is just going to be something you have to expect. It is hard to relax when you hear conversations and anything else that comes out of a persons mouth while experiencing a massage... Also, it is the same. massage. every. time. I think they have a step-by-step guide for their masseuses. The weirdest thing was when all of a sudden I felt feet on my back. Feet! They grab ahold of a bar/pole along the ceiling and walk on your back. Yeah... I had one bad massage here where it felt like someone was just rubbing lotion on my back. They also do not flip you over to face up either - it is a straight back massage only. Took my ex here once, and he thought it was ok enough to return. Make sure to request a woman if you want a female masseuse or you might have a man walking on your back. read more

I'm a fan! I'd been so very sore for the past week and knew I needed a massage but did not have a ton of cash to burn on one. After reading the reviews for it here I thought it sounded like the right fit - and it was! It was 60min for $60 dollars, which is a steal. I did make an appointment, but I know they take walk-ins too. I recommend calling ahead if you can because I was whisked right in after arriving and filling out a quick disclaimer. The waiting room is tiny, but elegantly decorated, and the massages are not in private rooms, but in spaces curtained off with large white drapes. It definitely still had an air of spotlessly, professional, soothing privacy and I did not feel at all uncomfortable stripping down. I had Amber, and she was wonderful. I requested medium pressure, and asked her to be gentle on my sensitive lower back - all of which she respected and she made sure to check in to see if the pressure was right. In a series of long, fluid strokes, down my aching body, combined with pressure point relief she took away all the tension I'd been building up for the last several weeks. There were actually moments where I could feel the pain leaving my body. The massage was followed by a quick, hot towel treatment to remove the oil (appreciated!). My only complaint would be that very little down done to my hands or feet. I notice that they do have a food massage available on their website, so perhaps they see it as a separate thing? In my experience this is kind of the overall failing with Chinese massage though, they don't really do the detail work when it comes to the finer muscles in your hands and feet in general. This visit was really about my back and thighs though, and Amber more than took care of that. Any time I get up from laying flat on my stomach or back for an extended period of time I always have soreness in my lower back, that last for a few hours after. There was soreness as I got up, but it was gone within moments and my entire body felt flexible and capable in ways it hasn't in ages. She even got rid of the pulled tendon in my shoulder from sleeping wrong - which as been sore for so long that I had accepted it as normal! this place is great for a good, effective and relaxing massage. i went here on a saturday afternoon with a friend (we had no problems getting a rez for an hour long massage each). the price is fabulous - $60 for an hour! as others have mentioned, the ambience is not super chic and spa-like (it's basically just areas separated by curtains, like a hospital ER, but with dimmed lights and soft music) but that didn't bother me much, since you're face down the whole time anyways. the massage therapist was very very good and was consistent the entire 60 minutes (i.e. didn't get all weak towards the end). i could tell she was well trained, because she hit all the spots that were typically where people experience the most tension and knew how to massage the knots out. she avoided bones too - i hate it when massage therapists apply pressure on bones, thinking it's a muscle! i actually fell asleep during the massage, it was so relaxing. really good deal, i will definitely be back! read more

I've been going regularly to Graceful for about four years. Sometimes I try other places around the city, but this is the only one I keep coming back to. Their facials are decent (especially the cleansing one), but what you really want to get here is their massages. Although each of the masseuses has her own way of working, if you describe what you want or the problems and pains with your back, they'll work wonders. The place is simple, but everyone is nice, warm and try their best to make you feel comfortable. Everything is clean and organized. We booked a massage after hearing about this "spa" on groupon. I'm surprised yelp averages 4 stars for this place. The spa is located in a building that looks like an abandoned space. There were holes in the walls and the ceiling was missing. The waiting room furniture appeared to be very worn. They showed us to an area separated by curtains with hard tables covered in paper linens. There was a bin for your clothes that looks like the ones used in airport security. The massage area looked nothing like the photos on yelp. We left without getting our massages. I went for a deep tissue massage and was deeply disappointed to see this was a place that only has one type of massage - they kind your friend might give you. I know its a cheap place so no i didnt expect a life-changing experience (best I've had was in Latvia), but they claim all their therapists are licensed, so I thought they had to be trained and educated, but maybe that was a wrong assumption. So relaxing.... I had a great massage and the hot stone facial left my face vibrant and smooth. I left this place walking on clouds. Took the train here and thought I might doze off on the ride back! I opted for a cab ride back home after I had a nice walk in the area. I deducted a star since massage tables were in a large room separated by curtains and I was able to hear my neighbor. Once you get past it though you'll start to appreciate that Graceful Spa tried to set a nice ambience with low lighting and peaceful music. My friend booked our facials here for Spa Week because she was a fan of the one in midtown. She's a former aesthetician so I fully trusted her to find us a great facial. I have to admit, when I first walked in and was brought to my area I was a bit surprised that my friend had picked this place since it wasn't what I would have expected from a spa. There were rows of beds separated by curtains and because it was not as grand and bright, I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of cleanliness. However, all those concerns soon faded as my aesthetician started to get to work on me. I usually expect Spa Week services to be of lower standard than that of a full priced service, but I ended up getting one of the best facials I've ever had. She used just the right amount of pressure and when she would have a mask or the steamer on me, she would use the time to do a scalp, shoulder, arm and hands massage. She only left me to get warm towels or supplies and I felt fully pampered. Also, for weeks after the facial, I could tell that my skin was still glowing. I would definitely come back here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality facial. read more

I booked a same-day appointment for a 60 minute massage. Despite the location, I was pleasantly surprised by the ambience and customer service. I was asked to pay before the service (which I found a little weird but oh well) and was able to use a credit card. I couldn't leave a tip because they were cash only for tipping and I didn't have any $$ on me. I was escorted into my massage area which was basically sectioned off via curtains, but it was not bothersome since everyone was receiving treatments so it was quiet and dimly lit. My masseuse was awesome--hit all the trouble areas in my back and legs. I wish she had been as hard on my legs as she had been on my back, but I'm definitely coming back. I will point out that I wasn't flipped over to do my front (they do backside only, unless requested or you're scheduled for a 90 minute massage).
