I loved that they had an open kitchen to connect the guests with the food. Upon arrival, there were three girls at the host stand and not one looked like they were enjoying life. They unenthusiastically showed us to our high top before returning to their post. Every table gets complimentary chips and salsa which had a nice smokey flavor. Some of the chips were a tad greasy but not bad. We started with the Fat Rosie's Queso Dip with Beef added. I thought it was odd that the dish came out as the queso only and they assumed we should use our same chip basket from the salsa. Either way, the dip had really good flavor! For entree, we shared the Burrito with Ground Beef. I liked that this came with rice and beans on the side. The inside ingredients were sadly layered so one never got a bite with everything at once. The meat was scarce and my half of burrito was mostly shell at the end. The saddest part of our experience was the service. Our waitress never stopped by to ask how our meal was, we had to ask for a water refill as my cup sat empty for at least 10 minutes, and were never offered a chip refill especially since we were eating the salsa and queso. This overall was a miss for my husband and I. We left feeling passed over the whole time and like they just wanted to turn the table over.

I have had Al pastor at many, many places, and it's been interesting to see people's takes on the recipes. These were, hands down, the best I've had anywhere. The meat was charred nicely, yet tender. The marinade/sauce had the perfect balance between the sweetness of the pineapple and the counterbalance of the lime, cilantro, and onion. I was so proud of my selection, that I ordered some to-go for my daughter to try. I also had a delicious strawberry margarita and finished off with a tres leches dessert. Everything was superb! So, I stopped in during the week, just after lunch time and found this little hole-in-the wall of a restaurant conveniently nestled in a shopping center next to the local Walmart. Even though I walked in and the restaurant was completely empty, the pure vibrancy of the decor and the cheerfulness of the staff encouraged me to stay. Not to mention that the aroma making its way out from the kitchen was absolutely mouth-watering. I took a seat at the bar while I perused the menu and was delighted in the simplicity of it. You know the food is about to be fire when the menu is simple and a restaurant focuses on what it does well. In addition to the excellent service, the food was absolutely phenomenal. I started off with some chips and salsa.... which was delightfully flavorful and perfectly crisp. Then, I had a bowl of the tortilla soup. Each spoonful was like deja vu. Each bite made me feel like I was in my grandmother's kitchen as a little girl all over again. The broth was perfectly seasoned and each bite came with a chunk of chicken and an assortment of veggies... truly perfecto!
