I haven't been here before. My husband said hey they have fresh Boar head meats so we went there today and had lunch. Just want to comment that if you want a side like a pickle which most sub places give you one it cost extra. I got a water and the #17 which is turkey and ham sub and my husband got the roast beef and turkey sub. I have to admit it was very good. Little pricey but what isn't now days . Mike's was abuzz with activity when I walked in at 12:30 on a Saturday, and they stayed busy the entire time I was there. College students were coming and going in droves. The food is not cheap here, and for a moment I wondered how these college students could afford it. Certainly I could not have when I was at Florida State University All Those Years Ago (I miss you, George Harrison), but then it dawned on me: these are not ordinary college students--they are Elon students. And if their parents can afford the $54,000 per year Elon price tag, then they can afford to send their pampered child to Mike's Deli. Do I sound jealous? I'm really not. I just felt like saying Elon students are pampered. Let's get back to lunch. I ordered the Reuben, a Coney, a bowl of Cajun chicken gumbo, and a sweet tea. Reuben: Mike's makes a decent Reuben. They use Boar's Head corned beef, which is very good. Oddly, Lox Stock and Bagel also uses Boar's Head, but their sandwich is much more tender. The sauerkraut is good and not overpowering. The thousand island dressing was barely detectable. The bread was okay but could have been grilled more. Soup: pretty good soup with lots of flavors, but it could have been more spicy to match my expectations of Cajun. Coney: I just don't care for Boar's Head franks. They have an odd flavor that I have a hard time describing. Also, Mike's forgot my mustard and slaw. Sweet tea: just ok. Sweet enough and had good tea flavor but also left an odd aftertaste. So we have ordered subs a few times from Mike's now and I have to tell you, they are consistently fresh & delicious! Our favorites (so far) have been the Roast Beef & Turkey and the Turkey Sub with lettuce and onions. Fresh, friendly & great tasting subs. We stopped in for lunch today, and came away with less than favorful feelings about the food here (at least the specific items we ordered), though the service was fast and efficient, and the place is kind of funky with the wall loaded with faux retro ads and posters. The Rueben was rather ordinary, with a smaller amount of both cheese and dressing than I've encountered in most area delis - simply ended up rather bland. This sandwich costs $6.49, on a plate (includes chips and a pickle spear) the cost goes to $7.49. Frankly, a few stale chips and an eight of a pickle for a $1 seems more than it was worth. The 2 dog plate special ($8.19 with 2 all beef Coney wieners) produced a great dog with kraut and mustard, but the second dog with mustard, chili, and onions was simply awful. The chili was without flavor, the onions were RED (a total no/no on a hot dog, imo) and were very strong (maybe old). And these were small sized wieners (no larger than the ones you get at Zack's a bit down the street for less than half the price). The price for a single dog is $2.79, goes to $2.99 for an all beef. Simply over-priced and under-sized. Can't really see coming back here. Too many other good choices close by, with better prices. read more

We stopped at Starbucks on our road trip and used Yelp to find something to eat. We were very glad to eat here. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. Interior and decor are nothing fancy and really it's borderline "rough" inside. But for what it is, I think that's fine. Food.... food is great. I got the Rachel. A classic ode to pastrami on rye with sauerkraut and thousand island dressing. They make just about any sub and sandwich you can think of. Most of the plates come with a heaping handful of ruffle potato chips, which actually really works. They have their own deli section where you can purchase slides meats, which is another nice touch. Overall this is a 3 star deli joint that pulls no punches with good food and a ok environment. Definitely worth the stop. read more

What a great deli! Big Mike sits center behind the counter, assuring orders are taken and delivered. They use the choicest deli meats and cheeses to craft monster portions. Seriously, their subs are enormous---by far the largest portion subs I've had in NC. The bread is satisfactory--I prefer mine crispy on the outside, light on the inside. They're just soft. First ever visit here: lunch 11/28. Location: In a strip shopping center on South Church Street (US-70). The area has lots of business, is well traveled and there is plenty of parking. Food: As a deli, you are going to get the all the usual suspects but Mike's deli has one of the more extensive menus I've ever seen in a deli. I'd hate to have be one of the cooks with this list! The core sections are sandwiches and subs but you also have wraps, salads, soups, hot dogs, hamburgers and even breakfast sandwiches! For the sandwiches, there must be 40 or more choices of meats and cheeses, at least 6 bread options and more add-ons (i.e. tomato, onion, etc.) than I could keep up with. There are 20 something subs listed most of which are familiar and comforting. The hot dog section offers you're standard dog plus an all beef coney and the burgers are listed as 1/2 pounders with several options there as well. As it was my first visit I was a bit overwhelmed - which is cool - so I asked for some recommendations and the guy manning the order counter (Mike?) did a good giving me a run down on the specials and a couple of other suggestions. I eventually went with roast beef marinated in port sandwich on wheat and choose the "plate" which adds a mound of ruffle chips and a pickle spear. I also added a fountain soft drink. My order arrived about 10 minutes later and...TASTY! All the individual components were fresh and flavorful. I have to give props for the amount of roast beef included and the soft freshness of the wheat bread. In the future I'd probably pass on the plate option but that's mostly because I'm not a big chips guy. As you would expect, there is a counter full of meats and cheeses that I'm guessing are available for bulk sales though I didn't see any pricing or information on that (though I did see fliers about ordering your holiday hams and turkeys in advance). They proudly sport the Boar's Head logo. There is also a large selection of drinks. 4 Stars for food. Service: My service was fine. It was efficient and polite in a strictly business kind of way. That probably makes sense for a deli during lunch when customers need to eat on a schedule. Throughout my visit a decent stream of patrons came and everything seemed to move along smoothly. Their menu also states that they both cater and deliver to businesses and Elon. 3 Stars for Service. Value: The subs come in half and full sizes with the half's in the $5-$6 range and the full's around $9 to $11. The sandwiches are $4 to $6. If you go with a "plate", add about a buck. You can get a single dog for as low as $2.29 up to a two coney plate for over $7. The burgers run $4 to $5. I've seen worse and I've seen better but based on the quality of my lunch I think the prices are fair. My plate and drink was about $8.5 after tax. 3 Stars for value. Atmosphere: The bulk of the space is committed to the kitchen and drinks area but there are probably 10 or so tables. The décor is early turn of the 20th century advertising signs but everything seemed clean and in order (I did not see the Sanitation Rating, however). 3 Stars for atmosphere. Overall: I can wait to go back and try some of the many options. I'm giving four stars overall for the excellent tasty and quality of my lunch and no obvious flaws elsewhere, though, this wont' be your cheapest lunch. Gotta pay a little bit for quality! If you're looking for the best sandwich shop in Burlington, MIke's Deli is it. Not once have I ever been let down by their sandwiches, subs or wraps. I always get a fantastic meal with fresh meat, cheese and veggies. They only use Boar's Head products, so you know their sandwiches will be top of the line. Sure, you can get a mediocre sandwich at Subway for a few dollars cheaper, but why would you want to? When it comes to a fine sandwich, you get what you pay for. Mike's Deli is worth it. After we picked up a to go order today we were dismayed with the fact that NOBODY working there was wearing a mask. Best Deli around! Coming from the land of a million Delis (New Jersey), you sometimes miss the local favorites-like a Taylor Ham (Pork Roll), egg and cheese on a hard roll. Mike's Deli has it! Their sandwiches are excellent; they offer gluten free options as well. Mike, the owner is usually working (as he has done for almost 30 years) at the establishment. He is super friendly and kind, and every employee seems to be as invested in his business as he is. Super awesome deli, great environment and "must stop" if you're in Burlington. Mike's deli has been in Alamance county for well over 20 years, and I have been eating here for at least 20. Since they were in a tiny location beside of a grocery store in Graham. They make the best subs around. Period. Their current location is in a strip mall and has plenty of parking. The restaurant has always been clean. You order at a register pay then wait for your food. You can order online, and they also have delivery. That is really handy. They have plenty of choices on the menu or you can make your own sub or sandwich out of their huge list of meats and cheeses. They use quality Boars Head meat and cheese. The portions are large. The bread is also very nice with just enough crust and soft inside. By far my favorite sub shop for all of NC! They also have hot dogs which are well worth a visit by themselves, burgers, and hot subs like the philly, and grilled sausage. You will not be disappointed in the food quality here. The dining room is no frills tables and chairs. Mike has never struck me as a people person, and at times he can come across as rude. But he makes one heck of a sub, and has for many years. One time I called in a order for 2 super subs with 7 different cheeses on it just to see if they would do it. They did it with no problem, and that sub took 2 days to eat! So they listen to what you say and make it exactly as you ask, how ever strange it may be. You will not find that level of service anywhere else. Easy 5 star recommendation here. read more

Average Heard that this place was really good so we gave it a shot. Placed my order, in which the employees were very nice, however food was incorrectly made and we never got our chips. I understand the chips aren't a big deal, but it's part of the price paid. I asked the associate at the front desk to heat my sandwich up, as I didn't want it cold. The whole thing was cold when I got it. Poor service and didn't pay attention. Just kept hearing what I assume to be a manager yelling about a large order that the staff was working on. I start coming in the deli waaaay back when I was still in middle and high school, worked my first job here, and grew to love this place as my family. We stopped by to visit and grab our favorite deli meats. I had the honor of bringing my children here for the first time, where they tried their first Boars Head pickle, and their first meat roll ups. The $8 1/2 a chicken salad wrap was awful. More like mayo soup with a few shreads of chicken. Nothing else in it : no lettuce, tomato ??? For his prices Id expect sprouts avacado bacon..some imagination. The owner looks like he likes to eat . Come on you have to know better than this! My kids make better lunches. My husband ordered a footlong sub that actually looked appetizing but the bread was stale and it lacked flavor . We won't being going back.
