Ignored at the counter for quit some time. The teenagers working there are clueless. Standing over in the corner talking. Dino saw me... didn't direct anyone to wait on me. Lucy saw me... same. They both used to throw up their hands and welcome customers... I guess another practice has been lost to the old days. This ignored at the counter has happened twice now. I've walked out both times. One customer doesn't matter to them I guess. Even though I've been a regular for years. May try the one in Elon.. I hear they are better anyway. Stopped by for lunch, pulled up for curb service and ordered mine to go. Got a double cheeseburger and hot dog all the way with fries. The hot dog was great, the burger was awesome also, they do the thin patties on the flat top. Those burger patties had great flavor with that good char from the flat top, the fries were cooked perfectly crispy golden brown, but they weren't salted at all, had to use the ketchup. They do have a couple other locations also and there are quite a few other items on the menu, but for a simple burger or dawg you can't go wrong here. read more

This is the original Skid's restaurant that opened in 1947, and was run for many years by J. E. Skidmore before being sold to the Katsoudas family in the early 1980's. They still do things pretty much the way they've always been done here, including having car hops to wait on you as you sit in your car. This is a small place, very worn, and rather cramped feeling inside. They serve a nice, inexpensive breakfast here, some plates & daily special, a Greek item or two, but for me it's always been about the Chili Dog and Skid's Special Cheeseburger with mustard, chili, & onion, and they are both excellent, at least for my tastes. The chili dog is pure Southern - a red wiener (Curtis, Jesse Jones, or Brightleaf), a meaty chili with some character, and a soft, gooey bun - and that is exactly what you get here. The burger is also very, very nice, and it is the same chili as for the dog. It is a diner style burger - a bit small, cooked to a perfect outside crust on a flat top grill, and severed up on a real, old school hamburger bun - no foo/foo here! The Fries are ok here, but generally are under salted. This Skid's is owned by the same family that operates the Skid's in Elon on W. Haggard St, but it is not in any way connected to the other 2 restaurants with Skid's in the name (on S, Church St. in Burlington, and N. Main in Graham), though they were part of the original local chain. I've always felt the food here was the best of the lot, and by a pretty wide margin. read more

With the exceptions of The Old Sharkey's Grill and Sutton's at the Wrike, which are both very good, I have not found much in the Burlington/Graham area worth getting excited about in terms of hot dogs. Perhaps Skid's Drive-In would change all that. I ordered a couple of hot dogs all the way, fries, and a Cheerwine. Hot dog: the only good thing I can say is that the wiener was decent. The onion chunks were too large, the bun was wrinkled and appeared old, the chili was bland, and the cole slaw portion was so scant that it may as well have been absent. The whole thing was in wax paper, which is normally great, but the chili had formed a bond with the paper to the point that it tore and some wax paper stuck to the hot dog...when was this thing put together...? French fries: they were hot and actually had a good taste, but they were dry. Cheerwine: the small cup was not enough. They do offer refills, but I got my food to-go, and there is no larger size option, so my cup ran dry. Service: this is a classic drive-in--there is little if any indoor seating. The worker was efficient and business-like, not rude at all, but not exactly bubbly, either. So when it comes to Skid's, just skid right on by. read more

This isn't a modern, spotlessly clean fast food place, but that's why I like it so much! It's like stepping back in time. The place is small, only a few tables plus a bar, but there is outdoor seating and they'll even come to your car. The burgers are heavenly! Probably the best burger I've had in a long time. Wow!!! Incredible mom and pops place. This established has been in operation since the 1940's. It is family owned and operated and you can tell that they put a lot of love into their restaurant. Mother and son were working side by side today, serving up meals there were hot and fresh. You can see right into the kitchen, so there is nothing to hide. Now in my opening comments I said this place opened in the 40's and it looks like not much has changed. However don't let that fool you, their food is delicious. The family is Greek and they have a few traditional Greek dishes on the menu to try if you wanted to give that a go Today I opted for the Skids Special Cheeseburger, because I wanted something a little more simple. It was fantastic!!! I also had it with a side of hush puppies and those were also amazing. You must try this dive if you are passing by the Burlington area. You will not be disappointed. read more

I'm really surprised that this place doesn't have any reviews. It's been around for something like 60 years - my mom went there as a kid! Skid's Drive-In is definitely an amazing blast from the past - the cramped inside only sits around 30 people (if even that), but it's oh-so-charming and must be experienced. Mustard colored booths, faded pictures and decorations on the walls haven't been moved or replaced since the 50s, and the same staff has worked there as long as I can remember. If you chose to dine using the "drive-in", it's as basic as it sounds - you drive into one of the covered spots, honk your horn and your food is ordered and delivered right to your car window. Everyone is friendly in that southern, down home way. The food is your general diner variety, with the focus on cheeseburgers and hotdogs, but the menu is HUGE and everything is SUPER cheap. A twin cheese burger basket, fries and a drink is under $6.00. The burger and fries aren't anything fancy - the foodie in you might smirk. But, it's simple and delicious. Something about it just takes me to a special place. The cheeseburgers are what brings me back again and again. Only bad thing I can say: they advertise their pizza via a neon sign on the window - don't waste your time or appetite. It's easily the worst pizza I've ever had. read more

I got a take out order and returned home, within 20min. of eating the hotdog all 3 people in my house were violently ill, nausea and the works. The food tasted horrible, and the hotdogs tasted funny like they had been contaminated with something. Upon calling the manager he agreed to refund our money but asked that we not come there again. Very poor response to ruining our supper. I will not be eating there ever again and I warn others to steer clear aswell, that place is in a steep decline. old school 50's style drive-in...bacon double cheeseburger basket will fill up the biggest appetite. No it's not a gourmet, grass-fed lovingly massaged while listening to Yanni beef patty, but it's hearty, greasy and stacked with whatever you would like on it. Nice fresh lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles with mayo and ketchup for me. The tea is sweet like it should be and came with lemon without asking like it should. Unreal burger and grilled chicken sandwich. Make sure you toss some salt on the fries (they are brutal without them). The burger I recommend with grilled onions and bacon, these 2 toppings complement the chagrilled beef very well. The grilled chicken sandwich is very good. The tomato that was stacked on top of the chicken was juicy and fresh; as well as the lettuce. This place is very good. There are two locations. This was my first and last time at Skid's. I normally grab burgers at Sharky's or Zack's, but they were closed today. I decided to try Skids, and it was busy, and it seemed everyone was confused. I ordered a double meat burger with cheese, with chili cheese fries. I felt like my total was a little high, but I even left a tip. When I got home (about a three minute drive), I discovered I was given a burger and regular fries, AND a second box with some really nasty cheese fries, not the chili cheese fries I ordered. They were disgusting. The burger was also pretty bad, and there was something hard in one of the bites, and I have no idea what it was. I would go back up there to get my money back, but I really don't have time. So, there goes $10, and a pretty awful dinner. Maybe the other menu choices are good, but the burger and cheese fries were terrible. read more

If you're African-American and want to be treated with respect, don't go to the Skid's located on north church street in Burlington, NC....the waitress (lucky for her I didn't get her name) lied to me about my order, then when I paid for my food she walked away without giving me my change until I had to say something that called her attention back to me so she then gave me the change...when I saw that my order was wrong I returned to Skid's and kindly asked for my money back, but instead she gives me a pile of dollar bills and some coins when I ORIGINALLY gave her a $10 bill...the 1 Star is for the lovely manager that kindly gave me my $10 bill back with no fuss after i had to almost go back and forth with the short white waitress....I firmly believe that I was discriminated against at this establishment and I recommend that this particular location considers retraining their staff---VERY UNACCEPTABLE!! read more
