Had dinner here with my dad and brother and really enjoyed it. The restaurant has a great atmosphere with a modern dining room, a fun vibe, and a nice patio. It feels like the kind of place that works equally well for a family dinner, a night out with friends, or date night. The food was excellent. The jumbo lump crab cake was packed with crab and had very little filler, which is exactly what I was hoping for. The lobster Cobb salad was fresh and loaded with lobster, and the French onion soup was rich, flavorful, and the perfect size. The service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food and overall experience. Great spot, great food, and great service. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in the area. read more

I love the convenience that Grain and Cane offers when staying at the Embassy Suites Berkeley Heights to allow those staying to have a decent meal right downstairs! In fact it was one of the reasons I chose the hotel for a quiet, relaxing night to myself where I could just run downstairs and pick up my order. Unfortunately, I was unable to place an online order for pickup anytime that day even though they closed at 10p and it was 7:30p. I also tried calling several times and no one answered so unfortunately I had to put on deodorant (just got out the shower from doing my curls) and real clothes because I had no clue if they would make me eat inside since the takeaway options seemed to not be available. Luckily I was able to place a takeout order downstairs and wait in my room for a call. I ordered the Grover Double Burger, added a slab of bacon, and substituted the fries for a salad. The to go bag had everything I needed to enjoy the meal in my room such as silverware and a wet wipe. I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation of the colorful, fresh, green salad I was given! Not what I was expecting from a hotel restaurant salad! The vinaigrette was also a nice light pairing for the delicious healthy salad. The burger patties were a nice size and cooked to a perfect medium. They were not playing when they said SLAB of bacon! That beauty was thick and delicious. There was quite a bit of bacon fat which I'm personally not a fan of so I tore it off but I know some people love it. The sauce on the burger could have been a bit more plentiful and had more flavor, although having more could have given it the flavor that was needed. The bun was soft, buttery, but sturdy enough to handle the patties. Overall my hotel meal was very good! It also seemed to be a popular Friday night option since the place was packed and there was even a wait for tables! read more

Watch your money at the bar here. I stayed here for a wedding weekend and had multiple issues with gratuity/billing at the bar. One night I handed the bartender $40 cash for a roughly $30 tab and never received any change back. The following night I closed out a card tab and the receipt I signed showed $0 tip, so I left additional cash gratuity. Only after requesting an itemized receipt later did I find that a 20% gratuity had already been included in the charge, but it was not reflected on the receipt I signed (very shady). It ultimately took over a month and multiple follow-ups to get refunded. Just be careful and always ask for an itemized receipt before tipping. read more

Started 2026 with a lovely brunch, on New Year's Day. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and one of our favorites. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. Nice sports bar like place in the same building as Embassy Suite hotel, I was there for a meeting so I got to try this restaurant. I got unsweeten ice tea and cheese burger with salad on the side. At one point, our company had a large group meal here, and unfortunately a few of us ended up feeling quite sick on the way home. Despite that experience, we continued coming back for lunches because of the convenient location. That said, I was never particularly impressed by the food. Good food and service. We have come for Mother's Day for the past couple years and always enjoy the brunch. It has become our annual tradition since our son was born. It does get busy and you need to make a reservation in advance (at least for Mother's Day), but it is worth it. The food is good and they have great indoor/outdoor seating. read more

Had a very nice Mother's Day brunch. We have been here a couple of times and this was the best one yet. The food and service were excellent. I ordered the huevos rancheros which was very good! The menu says it comes with salsa roja and it didn't come with that. We also ordered the French toast to share - the menu doesn't provide any details or explain that it is coated in cereal and served with blueberry compote. After years of saying we should try Grain & Cane, the spirit finally moved us and we went with our kids for an early bird dinner. Though it's in a hotel, you'd be hard pressed to realize it once you're in the restaurant. The ambience and design is that of a very smart casual, new American restaurant. My kids loved the old school train station-like message board that would flip every so often above the bar. My Mediterranean Salad with an added piece of salmon was delicious. The addition of hummus and pesto were a nice touch and really rounded out the flavors. My wife enjoyed her lobster roll as well. The kids menu isn't printed, which frankly is annoying, especially when it turns out that a kid's pepperoni pizza is $19!!! While the pizza was huge and delicious, I wouldn't necessarily call it a kids meal. The restaurant uses a homemade 24-hour fermented dough that gives the crust a slight tang. Great for adults, not quite as appealing to a 6 year old. Our server did a great job with refills, but made a few mistakes with our order. That said, he was always friendly and well-intentioned. Grain & Cane is attached to a hotel so there is plenty of parking in the lot. We had reservations for opening time and were promptly greeted. It slowly started filling up with patrons for the lunch hour. Our waitress was prompt and made sure to frequently check up on us. We went with the lunch express that was a choice of sandwich and salad with dessert. Everything was good, the fried chicken sandwich was a little on the dry side. I was traveling for work and met colleagues here for happy hour and dinner. I really liked the decor and overall vibe. It's connected to the Embassy Suites hotel, so it's a great option for hotel guests and visitors of nearby business parks. I started with the French Onion soup, which was loaded with onions and had a good amount of gruyere. The broth wasn't among the most flavorful I've had for French Onion but also was not bland. There were a couple of pieces of bay leaf in it, which was unusual and annoying to remove from my mouth. The Lobster Roll was small compared to all others I've had, but it was really good with a sufficient amount of butter-poached lobster meat in a soft, buttery split-top roll. It was served with hand-cut fries that seemed to be fried a couple of times as they were crispy and also dark, which is typically the result of cooking in heavily used oil. For dessert, I ordered the Grilled Chocolate Cake because it was so unique! The cake wasn't warm, but it did have a charred flavor, which seemed to work well with the chocolate. I would try their other desserts before I went back to this one. The service was solid. Our server was an older gentleman that wasn't outgoing or friendly but was efficient and accommodating. Met for a lunch with my friend on a Saturday afternoon. This is part of a new trendy hotel in a fairly industrial area / park, away from road and noise,with ample parking. We had very attentive server and tried a variety of foods,along with really good cocktails. Food was so good I forgot to take pictures of all of it,but definitely captured their excuisite looking bar with "train station" vibes (you'll know why once you're there,just look up!). We each had french onion soups, salmon bowls and cocktails (blood orange spritz and tamarita)- all top notch! Came here after wedding dress shopping with my friend, the bride to be, and it was a large group of us (13) but we let them know before we drove over. There was only one waiter to tend to us but he was beyond flustered the entire time and what could've been an effective 70-90 minute lunch, turned into a little over 2 hours. Between waiting for the mediocre food to our beverages that I didn't even want by time it came, my experience here was not one that would make me want to visit this restaurant again. I ordered a hot chocolate, and it came to the table cold but I know if I asked for it to be reheated I would've gotten it the next day. The food wasn't too terrible, the only reason I gave it 2 stars, however it was nothing special either. Tbh I probably finished it because I was so hungry. Came here on a friday for lunch. We sat on the patio. We ordered the express lunches whoch came with a salad, entree, and dessert. We both got the Cesar salad. I got the chicken sandwich, my sister got the tomato sandwich. And we both got a cake. The Cesar salad was the most bland thing i ever tasted. The salad had a good amount of dressing but it tasted like nothing. The chicken sandwich was good and the tomato sandwich was very good. The cake was dry. All in all this is a good place for lunch. We visited 05/26/2025 I was really looking forward to dining here, but the experience started off on the wrong foot thanks to the incredibly rude hostess. From the moment we walked in, she acted like we were an inconvenience--barely greeted us, didn't make eye contact, and spoke in a dismissive tone. First impressions matter, and unfortunately, this one soured the entire visit. The rest of the staff was pleasant, and the food was good, but it's hard to enjoy a meal when you're treated with such hostility right at the door. Very nice ambiance and also has out door seating that has heaters in places for the chili nights . The service is great and very good turn around with the food . So I have already been here twice and I wasn't disappointed either time . Food is delicious and on some nights they have a guy playing guitar and singing. Now on to the food so the menu isn't crazy big which is good sometimes. Nice selection of appetizers, salads and entrees . First time around I tried the meatballs which were delicious perfect texture and French onion soup was super flavorful but I wished it was hotter and cheese was melted better . My husband ordered a burger which he enjoyed. And the must have is the bread pudding ( one of the best I've ever had ). Second time around I ordered Asian salad, soft shell crab sandwich and my husband pasta . We couldn't forget dessert which was bread pudding and gelato/ ice cream . Spent Friday evening at the restaurant with reservations. Very cozy and comfortable layout. Great for bar seating, group, or lounging. It is attached to a hotel so plenty of parking available. We tried the spinach artichoke dip, the salmon, and burger. The noodles on the side of the salmon and fries with the burger were very salty. Grain & Cane was a good choice for brunch. They opened at 11 am so we were one of the first tables to be seated. Our waiter was not all that enthused to be working, or at least that's how it appeared to us. He rarely stopped by and while all the other tables got some sort of banana bread or something (hard to tell from a distance), we got nothing. The drinks were excellent. And the drink selection takes up 3/4 of the menu, so that's clearly the focus here. I had an excellent bloody mary and a fantastic after-brunch cordial. I wish I thought to take a picture of the menu - but it was aromatic, smelling of oranges and apricots. The food on the other hand was okay. I had the brisket Banh Mi sandwich with fries. The fries were greasy and not at all appealing. The sandwich itself was good, but you would have been hard-pressed to identify it as Banh Mi unless you knew you ordered it. One little sprig of cilantro, no crunchy pickled vegetables like daikon or carrots, and, to be honest, the brisket was a bit on the dry side. A totally meh situation. My wife had a mushroom bar pizza that was quite good. Our friends ordered the avocado toast with salmon which she said was good, not great. And her husband had the lobster roll. He's a huge lobster fan and he said it was also good, not great. So, if you're going for drinks and snacks - perfect. If you're looking for a foodie destination - you can skip it. One note: the parking lot all around the restaurant is being ripped up. Don't come in via Connell Drive from Plainfield. Go in from Valley Road. And the tote board is a lot of fun. They put up different quotes, and many of them are quite entertaining. My personal favorite was "Chocolate doesn't ask silly questions. Chocolate understands." So true. read more

Though Grain & Cane has been on my to try list for a while I never knew anything was back where this was located. I know I have passed the Connell Corporate Park many times in my travels but didn't think much of it. Well, there is a hotel back there and this place is attached to it. It has a super nice atmosphere and the bonus of being in a hotel / corporate park -- is, well, parking... no worries about finding a space here, and they even have EV chargers though coming here for dinner that is probably not going to be high on your wish list. The CHICKEN POPS - buffalo sauce, blue cheese, celery are an interesting twist on more finger friendly buffalo wings. The TUNA CEVICHE - tomatillos, ají amarillo, rice chicharrón is also a nice starter. For my main course I have the LOBSTER COBB - baby greens, avocado, bacon, chives, green goddess. A bit pricey, but so is lobster. Otherwise, a tasty dish that was large enough to make for a pleasant dinner meal on top of the appetizers. The bonus for the evening was having a pretty good selection of quality Jersey craft brews to choose from as well. Connected to the lobby of the Embassy Suites, this spot has its own unique look and feel. A little more expensive than it should be, but very good. For brunch, the blood marys were fresh and spicy, garnished with an onion, lemon and olive. The avocado toast was large (and made better with smoked salmon). The margarita pizza was surprisingly good with a thin crispy crust. The chilaquiles were GREAT - random dish but fantastic flavor and will get 10x over. When a friend invited us to a group dinner at an American restaurant, in a hotel, 25 mins away, I was not looking forward to the experience. I am very happy to say that we had a great experience from start to finish, I have already recommended the restaurant to family. I wish I knew about this place sooner since I actually stayed at the Embassy Suites for a wedding not too long ago. We went for a birthday dinner with 5 total guests. We got a round of cocktails, shared two apps, one bottle of wine with dinner, an entrée each and two desserts for the table. The bill came out to be around $400 after tax and tip and we did not skimp on the ordering. Of course this is not our typical weeknight dinner budget but for an elevated experience to celebrate a friend's birthday, I felt this bill was very reasonable. Our waiter was very attentive and professional, service was friendly and prompt. The noise level was quiet/moderate and we sat at a round table rather than a long table, which I think is great for conversation.
