Beautiful setting, decent food and service. Gramma Dot's always has a long wait so be prepared for that. Stopped there on a bike ride to the beach with my husband and baby. We were told there was a wait but we were in no hurry so that was fine. You aren't allowed to wait in the bar which we thought was odd, but they do have an outside waiting area so I sent my husband in to get a beer while we waited. FYI only beer and wine here, which is sometimes a bummer when you are craving something more tropical. We waited a long time and saw parties come after us and get seated before us. I finally went and asked about it and we got seated right away. We were told it was due to big groups but for 2 plus a high chair, I don't know why that kept them from seating us from the other couples and small groups that came in after us. The food was fine but our experience with the wait and staff that seemed overwhelmed/annoyed with customers took away from it. I'll try Gramma Dots again though. The best part for us was the harbor location and being able to walk around and entertain the baby by looking at big boats during our long wait. read more

Delicious lunch after a ride on the Sanibel Thriller. We arrived after the lunch rush so there was a minimal wait. House made chips are excellent as was the fried grouper. "Famous" clam chowder was good but I'd probably skip next time. Peel and Eat shrimp were excellent, no mushy ones in the bunch. I would definitely eat here again, but I don't think I'd bother waiting in the typically long lines. There are plenty of other good restaurants on the island. read more

Average food and no customer service is a really bad combination! My daughter called to buy my wife and I lunch for my wife's birthday and received the same short, rude treatment that is referenced in multiple reviews. We asked our waitress about this at the end of our meal and she said she had heard this call when it happened and could not believe the tone. She was a new waitress and clearly not poisoned by the culture because she was great. The Lobster salad was boring but the fresh fish sandwich was good. Hit or miss. My family and I ate here while traveling to Sanibel Island for the week. A friend had just gotten back from Sanibel the week before we went and recommended. First, our server (can't remember her name) was wonderful. We ordered an appetizer that had coconut shrimp, fried oysters and crab meatballs. SO good! My husband said he could eat a bucket of the crab meatballs. My daughter who isn't a seafood person likes the coconut shrimp. My daughter got the chicken breast dinner (mesquite style) and it was amazing. She couldn't finish it. My husband and I tried a bite and it was really good. I also tasted her veggies which were great. He and I had the fish and chips which was really yummy. Beautiful setting though we opted to eat inside because my husband is a mosquito magnet and was getting bit out entire trip. Highly recommend Gramma Dots! read more

As far as I'm concerned the only thing worth ordering here is the key lime pie. Chicken sandwich, fish sandwiches, burger--mediocre at best. The fried crab meatballs were pretty flavorless. The house made chips are tasty but don't go far enough to make up for the bland entrees. The pie was the best part of the meal: tart, creamy, lots of lime flavor, nice graham cracker crust. The whipped cream wasn't real. Service is friendly and quick. Oddly, most things are served on or in disposable plates, cups, etc. What a lot of waste. Overpriced and not very good. There's a bit of a wait to get into Gramma Dot's if you go around sunset. At least you get to wait sitting on the dock, which is a very pleasant way to watch the sunset. The restaurant itself still retains a bit of the "old bait shack on the dock" look, but it's nicely painted and very clean inside. They also have patio dining, which is fine if it's not too hot out. The dinner menu is a little pricey, but they still offer their lunch menu, and they have some good options on it. I ordered the fish and chips. They were OK, but they were not British style - no malt vinegar, the heathens! - and the chips were not traditional fries, they were homemade potato chips (crisps). Good, but not quite what I expected. At least the four pieces of breaded grouper came with a good sized wedge of very fresh lemon. I had no complaints. My wife had a grilled shrimp basket that she happily polished off. Her mother had a cup of the lobster bisque, which she really enjoyed. Gramma Dot's was a very good choice. read more

Girl met me at the door and said we don't open for another hour and I said could we sit outside and waiting and she said No- So I was standing T the door and another girls came to the screen and said what are you doing do you need something and I said Inwas just waiting for opening . She said well we don't open for another 20 minutes. Both servers were extremely rude and rude- We finally just left- To the owner - I own a restaurant and I wouldn't have any these people working for me!!! Truly wish you could give zero stars. This place should be called Grammas House of Disappointment. The only thing that was decent was the kids Mac and Cheese. The lobster was a disgrace, tough and tasteless. My friend said his grouper was ok, also not well seasoned. I found it gross to watch dogs walk through the restaurant to get to the patio. I'm sure that's a health code violation. Overall, I would rather eat the box of tic tacs in my purse than ever eat here again. read more

I just love this place. The setting, the service, the food - it's all perfect. Get the house made chips with the awesome dill sauce! I had the curried lobster salad which was served with fresh fruit. According to the staff this is the only place on the water in Sanibel. The food was okay. I had the walnut maple grouper special sandwich. My friend loved her lobster role though! We ordered 2 mahi mahi dinners (1 blackened and one classic grilled) and the grilled chicken dinner (lemon pepper). Portions were great and the sides of rice and croquettes were very good. The vegetable side seems to change, but this time we had zucchini and green beans. They also give you a chocolate shell filled with fruit along with the dinners which is a nice touch. We went around 5pm so we could eat and watch the sunset and the service and atmosphere outside were both great. There was plenty of seating both inside and outside and they allow you to make reservations for outdoor dining as well. We were all too full to try the desserts but they sounded great so we'll have to go back! read more

This place is a gem! Food was fantastic! Best service (Alyssa!), best view of the harbor and the yachts are fun to see too! We have 2 people with gluten allergies and the chef made the special gluten free (scallops which were delicious!). This was the first restaurant we chose to eat at when we arrived in Sanibel and I'm so glad we did. We arrived there around 5:45pm on Monday and didn't have to wait at all with a party of six! Our food came out so quick it was hard to believe; it was absolutely delicious and presented so lovely- you even get a cute little purple flower! You can order anything from the lunch menu after 5pm for a dollar upcharge (well worth it)! I got the chicken tenders, they were great. The homemade chips were phenomenal. I was not really loving them. And my pet peeve. They apps were served on foam plates. Yuck. Dinner was served on hard plates. I had the blackened grouper. It came with a side. I chose the potato croquette. The grouper portion was generous and flavorful. The blackened seasoning was spicy but not overly. The croquette was ok. It was a bit oversold and as such was disappointed. It desperately needed salt and pepper. My mate got the fried flounder. It was a large beautifully fried piece served with the croquette to which he was not impressed either. Overall a good meal. Beer and wine only. read more

This is a great find for an "off the tourist grid". Located at the Sanibel Marina, this quaint little place has been here for a long time. The boaters know about this spot, but the landlubbers would love it. Had their Coconut Shrimp-there known for it. Also had the Lobster Salad-kind of like a Lobster Roll on steroids. Our family visits annually but I haven't been in years. We booked the Stars & Stripes sunset cruise (highly recommend!!) and dined here prior to our boat ride. From start to finish, the service and overall experience knocked it out of the park! We requested outside seating and ordered with Laura (hope I'm correctly recalling her name!) but after she submitted our order to the kitchen, we asked to move inside as it was hot and we had our 1 year old with us. The staff easily accommodated us and we were directed inside to a better suited table for our group. My husband and I work in the service industry and acknowledge it's not necessarily a server's favorite experience to switch sections/tables with another, especially when it's a larger table (more $$$). Our transition was met with ease and weren't made to feel like we were an inconvenience. April took over as our server and she exemplified professionalism. Our meals - from grouper to mahi, steak to shrimp, were cooked to perfection and enjoyed by all. We capped our experience with their famous key lime pie and it didn't disappoint! My only suggestion would be to switch from styrofoam & plastic disposable serving ware to compostable or recyclable products. Understand establishments choose products to execute service more efficiently but the styrofoam, in particular, was a disappointment. Boasting such a beautiful location on an island with a delicate ecosystem, one would hope in moving forward, management will steer towards more environment friendly products. read more

Went here after taking a sunset cruise on the Sanibel Thriller and it was right at the marina. When we checked in we were told the wait would be 15 minutes and we were okay with that, however we didn't get seated for 50 minutes. Absolutely frustrating to be lied to especially when we had young kids with us. The hostess brought out a pack of oyster crackers for the kids due to the wait which was appreciated but didn't help much. Food was just okay. I had the surf & turf. The filet was cooked perfectly however there was zero taste/seasoning to it. The lobster tail was tough. My husband had a fish dish which he said was just so-so.
