There are limited options on island for dining but we were happy to have found this spot to grab some lunch during our brief visit to the island. I was hopeful that they had something more than just burgers and pizza and was glad when I found a chicken caesar on their menu. The chicken caesar had a plentiful amount of chicken and the greens were super fresh and crisp. It's an order at the counter and then go grab your order when ready sort of situation. They have an indoor dining area as well as some lovely tables outside. Once you've enjoyed your lunch, they also have ice cream. When we went back to order some ice cream the line was pretty long. Definitely a tourist trap. Way too busy, too crowded and WAY too expensive!!! We got a Tony Burger and a Chicken Caesar Wrap (with a random $2 misc charge?) for $37.19. The staff is very young and upbeat and friendly. The wait was SO long I ran in with all of our empty bottle and refilled waters so that was a plus. The first time we stopped at Grampa Tony's, we were immediately greeted by Grampa Tony himself, who took some time to chat with us and gave us recommendations about places to go and things to see around the island. Seems like there is not waiter/waitress/table service on Madeline Island. This restaurant has pizza and ice cream. There are specialty pizzas, but you cannot add anything onto the specialty pizzas without substantial up charges. Our pizza went from $12 to around $20 when we asked to add more toppings. The pizza was pretty good. Beers are about $4.00/$4.75. The woman behind the counter had to get someone that was 18 to sell me beer. Teach them young! Ice cream was enjoyed by all. This place wins with the table version of slow Ms. PAC-Man. I had a ball showing my son how to play! read more

This is a cute place to stop on the islands for a traditional burger joint. My kids ate chicken tenders, and hamburgers. My husband had a burger and I had a veggie burger. Everything was good, not great, but expected from a order at the counter burger joint. Service was nice and friendly. We even stopped back later in the day for ice cream and a fruit cup. They were nice and let us fill our refillable water bottles. All of the employees wore masks and tried to be as safe as possible. No complaints except, when my daughter ordered a smoothie... it was only filled 3/4 of the way and there was a bubble lid which would make one think it should've /could've been filled beyond the rim of the cup. Grandpa Tony's is a bright and cheery spot serving pizza, sandwiches, wraps and ice cream. Order and pay at the counter, grab a drink then head upstairs to the great patio overlooking the lake. They have a bunch of tables with big red umbrellas. You will get an oversized playing card for your "number" and they will bring the food up and yell out "queen of hearts!" (Soooo tempted to yell back "go fish!). When we were there for lunch, service was a tad leisurely but that was ok since it was such a beautiful day in the sun. Our group of 4 tried the BBQ chicken pizza, chicken Cesar wrap and a cheese, sausage green pepper pizza. I'd really like to rate this place 3.5 stars. There are not a lot of options in La Point, and this seemed like the best of them tbh. It's counter service, but they bring your food to your table. The menu isn't large, but my husband and I both liked the BLTs we ordered. My parents ate breakfast here too, and my mom was impressed with her breakfast sandwich. My dad had one of the burgers which was almost $15, but mom said it was very large. I was most impressed with the array of ice cream options; I chose Pirates Booty and Caramel Collision. I think I preferred the latter. Maybe go here just for the ice cream if you need to! read more

Maybe it's the rain, maybe it's the only place open for food that day, maybe it's all the exertion from watching the hubs set up camp. Whatever it was, the food here really hit the spot. Plus the staff, who were all teens, were super nice. It reminded me of Save By The Bell when the gang had summer jobs at the beach. We had a meal of all carbs - garlic cheese bread, hot Italian beef sub, and a hot veggie sub. The garlic cheese bread came with a sealed plastic container of marinara. The Italian beef sub was packed with meat and came with a side of au jus. The veggie sub was delicious with a lot of olives - it reminded the husband of muffuletta. With just a few restaurants open on Tuesday, 8/29, we decided to go to Grampa Tony's and sit on the outside deck for dinner since they had a gluten free 10" 3-topping pizza on the menu. I wasn't hungry so I just had a slice and my wife ate the rest. We eat GF pizzas about once a week so we've had both good and bad. This was one of the bad ones with a firm doughy crust that had no crispness or crunch, and the meat toppings were awful. We didn't have any bar drinks but their ice cream was decent. If there was a negative star, it would've been marked. The absolute worst experience I've ever had. We get take out for two pizzas, the 1st is half and half, the 2nd is also is half and half, get home the 1st is covered in jalapenos which was only supposed to be half and the 2nd is burnt on the top. So, call them and they'll remake the 1st one and we take the 2nd one back with us to show them it's burnt. Long story short, one of these cooks starts raising his voice and swearing at my wife, which I naturally take offense to and say something to the 20ish year old and then the owner comes out and starts raising his voice to the both of us, at this point I walk out of the restaurant and my wife keeps trying to explain to them the situation while the owner and the kid continue to have raised voices and telling her it's not their problem. Worst experience I've ever had at any of the great places on Madeline Island. You have to take this place for what it is: a family restaurant in the middle of a small, laid-back tourist town. Emphasis on "laid-back." Most of the time nobody above the age of 18 is manning the front of the restaurant; whoever owns the place has absolutely no problem letting the kids take meal orders and hand out ice cream. If you're looking for more of a fancy dining experience, look down the street. I must say that if I'm ever going to eat here, I always get the Garlic Burger. It's seriously one of my favorite burgers. Two patties, plus lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and garlic sauce all between two pieces of garlic bread. It'll keep you satisfied for quite a while, especially if you and a friend grab a basket of crinkle-cut fries to go with that. read more

Growing up this is the place I remember coming to with my whole family whenever we were sailing. We would get pizza sometimes but I'd go for their ice cream every single day during vacation and get either the blue moon or the superman. Went to get ice cream after a great day on the island. Young high school and college students working there were very friendly. I was given my cone and was waiting for my last child to decide what to have. My cone was melting and so was my sons. One of the girls asked my son to put his mask up as he licked some of his dripping cone, at the same time I did the same thing but had held my mask up in front of me as I took a lick. I was instantly yelled at by an older woman standing in an office near by. She said put your mask up the girls shouldn't have to ask an adult more than once. Then she went into the office where a man was sitting and started to talk about me poorly as if I wasn't there. She just assumed I was already told to keep my mask on. I have no objections to wearing a mask and am not a person to be rude and disrespectful. I did let the girl who checked us out that I meant no disrespect. I know what it's like to work in a tourist area and know how some tourists can be at times, but this older woman should not assume that I was being disrespectful and was going against the mask rule. And by the way, ironically she did not have a mask on the entire time we were there. Being nice goes a long way especially if you are in the public eye. Not a good experience and next time I will go somewhere else for ice cream. read more

The staff is made up of the owner and her family as well as teenagers who live on the island all summer. They are friendly and nice and the service is great! The pizza crust is homemade and amazing! And the ice cream is also awesome!!! The best place on the island for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Great for families! read more
