Harbor, it just does not give one that true feeling of Surf Lifestyle. There are really two parts of this beach. There is the North-Facing side that is lined by the San Pedro Cliffs. Cliffs that are quickly falling into the sea. On this side, you can view houses that are barely in place and teetering on the cliff. If it was me living there, I would be very nervous. On this side of the beach is the more open, majestic space of Cabrillo Beach. Here the waves freely crash on the shore and you are just a short walk from the tide pools of the marine reserve, which I highly recommend visiting. You just have to be careful of the homeless and those using drugs like Crack over in that section. Because I have seen a few scary situations unfold. The other part of Cabrillo Beach is where most people congregate. This section is in direct view of the the ships that travel in and out of the L.A. Harbor. This area holds the main swimming area that has a buoyed safety rope strung across the outside reaches of the swimming area. This is where most people swim and enjoy the water. Due to this area of the beach being enclosed by the harbor breakwater, there are virtually no waves in this section. The water seems much more stagnate here. Thus, you really miss the feeling of the natural flowing ocean. Overall, though perhaps not the beauty one expects from the SoCal Oceanside, this is a unique contribution to the California Coastline.

The…read moreSan Pedrians call this Beach ROYAL PALMS, most residents in San Pedro never knew they added White Point as some locals have said it's probably a racial thing. The entrance fee is $6.00 One way no returns. The view from above Royal Palms is beautiful. We drove down, parked, and had lunch with an awesome view of some surfers, and, as I was told, on occasion you'll see some seals on the rocks. After having lunch we went for a walk, a hidden treasure in this town. Royal Palms has public restrooms and plenty of parking. Come and enjoy the beautiful view.

Historic dates to significant events are scattered around and displayed on benches. Most people come here for the fishing. The action is up and down, but when the mackerels and bonito are active, this pier gets packed with people trying to get a share. Most days of the year, it's a relaxing spot to fish for a variety of species. There is also no need for a fishing license when fishing on public piers. The cleanliness of the pier has been okay lately. Sometimes there's an unpleasant odor, trash on the ground, old bait, and other debris on the railing. An overall renovation is highly needed. This pier is also shorter than the piers in Seal Beach and Huntington Beach, but it is still a good place to walk and relax. The restaurant at the end of the pier, Buoy's on the Pier, has been closed for years. However, there is a small snack shop at the pier entrance. There are a few bathrooms available on the pier, along with a couple of sinks. A paid parking lot is available and open 1 hour before sunrise, closing at midnight. The lot is relatively clean and well-lit. Payments through self-serve kiosks or the Passport parking mobile app, with hourly charge rates. Vehicles with disabled placards are exempt from fees.

Today I was introduced to Bayshore Beach, a calm inlet near Naples Island in Long Beach. No waves, perfect for kayaking and paddle-boarding. There's a little beachside cafe - Grill 'Em All (lol), and a rental spot for those kayaks and paddle boards. Lifeguard station just nearby. Restrooms adjacent. Park on the street, or there is a lot one block over.

I wanted to check out Broken Spirits which is right next to the 2 hour free parking garage. Parking is by Long Beach Blvd with entrances on 3rd and 4th street. The promenade itself is a 4 block pedestrian walkway full of gorgeous murals, pleasant landscaping, and an odd QR code enabled toilet. It's interesting and fun to walk. You can get some great views of historic architecture such as the Middough Building. Sad part is on a Saturday it felt like I was in an apocalypse movie. Nobody anywhere. Was a total ghost town. Restaurant we ate at was great but totally empty. Was odd. I assume night time might be busier? I will definitely be back for Broken Spirits and curious to see what else is around.
